BW -- BIW -- BI -- BW

Hi,
What is your feeling about the "new" name of SAP Datawarehouse solution ?
And more generally what do you think about all the permanent name changing that the SAP marketing department insists on ?
BC --> WAS --> Netweaver 04s --> Netweaver 7.0
XI --> PI
R/3 --> ECC
and so on....
When I read about BI being renamed as BW once more, I announced it to my colleagues and the reaction was a general big nervous laugh...

BI is not renamed AFAIK..
BI = BW + BO.
The data warehousing part is called BW.

  • POS-DM, BIW & R/3 posting issue after BIW patch updation

    Landscape details:
    SAP IS-Retail (ECC 6.0), SAP POS (Triversity GM 9.5.10), PI 7.0, BIW/POS-DM 7.0
    Issue Detail
We have upgraded the patch level of Support package BI_CONT in BIW from 5 to 11 in production server and after that following issues have started:
    1.     The duplicate posting started in R/3 i.e. if some POS EoD (TLog) file is already posted from POS-DM to R/3 and if the same file comes to POS-DM again then it gets posted in R/3 again. It was not happening before updating the patch, it used to get stop in POS-DM only.
    2.     We have some EANs which starts with ZERO, those POS transaction doesnu2019t get posted in BIW Cubes and R/3 wherein the ZERO prefix articles exists. It stuck in POS-DM with the error u201CUnknown EAN/UPC numberu201D. But this error comes only if we enable the u201CMstr Data Filteru201D check from General Setting in /N/POSDW/IMG. If we disable this check then the data gets posted in R/3 but it doesnu2019t go in RSA7 & BIW Cubes.
    3.     Before updating the patch the u201CMstr Data Filteru201D check was disabled and our posting was happening perfectly in R/3 as well BIW. What we understand is that, this check is required to pick the Article Code from masters with reference of EAN number which comes in POS TLog file and then it gets posted. We had written a ROUTINE in update rules to pick the Article Code from masters after truncating ZERO prefix from EAN, because the masters which we upload in R/3 with ZERO prefix EAN are getting updated in BIW without ZERO prefix.
    4.    In the T-Code /N/POSDW/MON0, we  are not able to change the status of processed transaction from 4 (completed)  to 1 (ready) or vice-a-versa. Earlier we were able to do the same. This is required to re-process the transactions after doing the corrections in errors occurred at the time of first  processing.
    Regards
    Amar Preet Singh

    Hi
1)Duplicate posting in R/3 :  check the 'Tasks' configuration WPUUMS & WPUTAB in /N/POSDW/IMG  in POSDM.
    2) Write a Routine in BI side to allow EAN's with prefix Zeros
    3) master data filter is used to check the data with BI master data. Master data filter should always be used while data posting.
    4) The status should be first changed from completed to cancelled/rejected and then cancelled to Ready status.
Then you will be able to reprocess the posdm data to ISR.

  • Comparing data b/w biw and oltp

    hi
Could some one can halp me how to compare data between biw and oltp system.which has been extracted.
Thank for your precious time spent to help me in learning.
    Thanks,
    Jagadeesh

    Jagadish,
It is not always all extracted data are coming from one standard table and comparison is easy. most of the time from multiple tables. There are couple of things you can do.
    1. If you know any R3 functionals you can inquire about reports available that produce the same kind of column groupings.
    2. If no one exists or do not get much help from them, and if you have SQ01 access in R3 you can create a query to bring the same columns fromcorresponding tables (This is a harder because you need access and need to findout from where data is coming from though info is available in help.sap.com).
    3. more practical would be select a small subset of data, with right filters in your selection columns of the info package and extract data, at the same time use the same selection in RSA3 (R3 side) to extract data and compare. This should tell you whether what you have in R3 is matching with the extracted data.
    4. After your transformations you can compare the same with your info provider (cube or ODS) contents as well.
    hope this helps,
    Award points if useful.

  • How to add a new filter in an existing web service method (BIWS - WEBI document)

Hello Experts, we have 7 web service query's connected to a dashboard. Basically it is one WSDL URL and 7 Get Methods...Web service queries are BIWS (via WEBI document instance). There are filters setup for each of these web service methods.
Recently there was a request to add 2 new fields to the webi document and also the 2 fields need to be included as filters in the 7 methods. I know there is an option to edit the method, but when i edit the method, i cannot find the 2 new fields in list to set as filters. Can anybody help me understand how to add filters to an existiing web service method? I do not want to delete the method and republish the block as web service.
Any help will be great and points rewarded.
    Thank you
    Ann

    Hi Ann,
The reason you are not able to see any of the new columns as a option to select in your web service block is because when you have published that block, they were not present. Add these two new objects in your block and publish it again. You will be prompted for duplication content. Select the highlighted block for duplicate and now you can see the new added objects in the filter option. Update and this will overwrite your published block. Please note, web services do appear to behave weirdly when used with dashboards so I request you to please try it in a separate test report first.
    Hope that helps.

    Hi Ann,
You can create a new WebServices or modify the document block on which the webservices is published.
Once the block is modified you might be able to see the new objects in the filters.

  • Need help on monitoring poor performance in BIWS

    Hello All,
We have a strange behavior with all our Dashboard on SAP 4.0 SP5 FP3 with BIWS connexions.  1 time on 10 (approx.) the BI Web Service connexion take so long.  I mean in normal circonstance, it take 2 seconds, then it take 30 seconds, 1 minute and more to return the result.
We build a Jmeter scenario to find a pattern without success.
Just to help, by example it when we call this.
    /dswsbobje/qaawsservices/queryasaservice/biws?cuid=AVBUa5WAagZFmFxSbw77INI&authType=secEnterprise&locale=fr_CA&timeout=60&ConvertAnyType=true
I know it depend a lot of things, and we try a lot of things too but I'm trying to isolate where it take so long.
    What we do so far.
    1) Close all services not needs.  That means at the end it keep only
CMS, Input / Output, APS Visualization, APS Webi, WebiPS.  (No need Dashboard services...on only BIWS)
    2) I try to captures E2E traces but can't figure out what to check...Too much lines.
      Wow!
    3) One interresting test I made is try to open dashboard on production where the problem is and call BIWS on acceptance environnement where it's always fast.  The result it's still slow.  So, I don't think it's not the web services by itself which is slow.  It's probably the CMS, the network, the disk.
We have a big environnement , we run thousand reports per day.  So it's probably not the disk or the network...But we never know.
Any idea where to look ?

Just to help (maybe) people with this problem which we think we find why it's slow in some cases.
What we realize is the fact that if webi instance (last instance) where you consume the web service is big, and I talk here the hole instance , not only the block you define for your web service.  If the instance is big, it make all the difference,
So, if you have a webi for 300,000 lines but your web service contain only 50 lines, BO will retreive all 300,000 first, like if you view last instance in lauchpad
We try to understand why BO doing this.  And the only reason we can find is because in some cases you would like to filter on your web service outside of the block you define.
BO should think about this and give us a way to disable the filtering outside.
So the solution we try now is to build send the web service to excel, and build another web service on top of this.  This we finalize with only 50 lines.
    Hope it help

  • BIWS not fetching data for getfromUserInstance

    Hi All,
I have created a BIWS and have scheduled the Webi report separately for each user (we have tried for only 2 users so far).
The BIWS property for the getfromuserinstance is set to "1". When we publish the dashboard on the launchpad it does not pull any data.
We have created the Webi report on top of the BEx Query. The web service contains only one report block. There is no problem in using the refresh option or the getfromLatestInstance option both work fine.
Please help how do we need to go about to get the user instance option working. Any links to relevant posts/documents/discussion shall be helpful.
Please provide links for the UserInstance property only.

  • Stock Ageing Report in BIW

    Hi Friends,
We have a requirement to create stock ageing report in BIW.
If i create the report based on the material documnet date which is coming in 0IC_C03 cube,i will get correct ageing as far as manufacturing plant is concerned.
But we have defined the sales depots also as plants in our R/3,so if i take the material doc date from the ic_c03 cube,my ageing will be wrong for my sales depots because here it will consider the documnet(material) received into the depot date and will not consider the material manufacture(updated into system by 101 movement).
So in my depots,i will get the wrong ageing based on the material received date and not the manuf date.
So how do i go about this issue.
    Awaiting your inputs..
    Thanks & Regards
    Sudhakar M

    Hi
You can look for some standard date fileds in MM03 transaction under Production for material manufacturing data and map this field in BW to fetch data and use the field in your query for ageing

  • SAP R/3 4.6B is comaptible with which version of BIW

    Hi All,
Can anybody tell me Which version of BIW is comaptible with SAP R/3 4.6B.
    regards,
    Vishal

    Hello!
i think BW has  no dependency with the version of R/3. you can use any of the newer  BW versions with any r/3 versions ,but  needs to take care of version of BW service API in R3.
Posting the same question in 2 forums is not a good idea because we are same in both the forums.
and please make a habit of closing a  thread by selecting the problem solved,if you got the answered so that others can focus on solveing open isues. I am refering to your previous question on CRM cube.

  • Let me know the BIW 7.0 flow

    Dear All,
I am new to this BIW 7.0, before i was working with 3.0B. Kindly let me know the difference between this two. I could see here in the Modelling area Data Sources, DTP, Transformations and so many areas here. Let me know this flow in detail. Kindly help me in this regard.
    Regards
    Sathiya

    Hi Sathiya,
    1.     I want to know the difference between the transformation field in the data source and transformation field in the data target also.
[Anil]: Qn is not that clear, but just in case if you want to know about transformations then below are the links.
    Transformations
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/d5/da13426e48db2ce10000000a1550b0/content.htm
    Routines

Difference in Transfer/Update rules routines to Transformations of nw2004s
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/44/bd9b5be97c112ce10000000a11466f/content.htm
    2.     Why there is a field in transfer rule in data source tree?
[Anil]: If you are in BI 7.0 you don’t need transfer rule. You can map the fields in the data source to the data target with transformations. Right click the data target and choose transformations and give the data source name and you will be guided.
    3.     What is migrate in the data source tree?
[Anil]: Below are few important points:
•If you want to migrate your 3.x DataSource into a SAP NW 2004s BI DataSource, then use the inbound adapter functionality – which will mean losing your DataSource, Transfer Rules and PSA. Bear this in mind if there is complicated logic within your transfer rules. You will need to migrate this earlier into a transformation. Then you can do the DataSource migration. This will mean a new PSA table will be generated. There should not be data in your PSA table when you do the migration, as it will be lost.
•You do not have to migrate all your update/transfer rules to the new concept. You could still define update/transfer rules in SAP NW 2004s, although this is a little more hidden – available via Additional Functions in context menu.
    4.     What is data transfer process in data source tree?
[Anil]: Here is the Step by step process to create DTP -
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/42/fa50e40f501a77e10000000a422035/content.htm
    5.     How to load master data is this same like 3.0b??
[Anil]: No, it is not the same. But for loading hierarchy we still follow the 3.x procedure. Below are the steps for loading master data:
    1. Create the infoobjects you might need in BI
    2. Create your target infoprovider-Infoobject
    3 Create a source system
    4. Create a datasource or use replicated R/3 datasource
    5. Create and configure an Infopackage that will bring your records to the PSA
    6. Create a transformation from the datasource to the Infoprovider
    7. Create a Data Transfer Process (DTP) from the datasource to the Infoprovider
    8. Schedule the infopackage
    9. Once successful, run the DTP to get data from PSA to Infoobject
    10. Check Infoobject for data
    loading Infoobject using Flat-File
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/43/01ed2fe3811a77e10000000a422035/content.htm
    6.     If we are taking from more than one data source then how we have to process?
[Anil]: Below are different scenarios in using data source.
