BW iViews performance in EP 6.0

Hi All,
I'm currently having some performance problems while calling BW Report iView's, I have tried mostly everything and even though the iviews run properly the speed could be a lot better and sometimes take time for the screens to respond.
I'm using EP6.0 connected via SSO to BW3.0B, iView's are SAP BW Report iView's.
I'm using FQDN in the systems and the iView's
Any suggestions???

Hello Juan,
Did you check the logs in backend ?
E.g. SM50 , SM51 ..also RSA3 related to performance

Iview performance and rendering

Hi guys,
I have portal running
Transactional iView for su01
http://server:50000/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fcom.company.company!2fcom.company.iViews!2fSU0…
Once opened I get the error in I.E. 11
The IE compatibility view is not supported (Note 1970689).
On this I click ignore as with windows SU01 if you click on the context box to search for users instead of opening it just hangs there.
1. How can I activate a trace for performance on this iview? HTTP watch and ICM logs do not indicate any errors at all.
2. I have had the application parameter disabled for Hand Over Browser Document Mode setting then the IE compatibility does not appear. However regardless of whether I set the Application Parameters to sap-ie=EmulateIE8 or to sap-ie=Edge it still gives me error if the document mode is enabled or not.
Any ideas especially on tracing the hanging view would be appreciated.

Hi,
we had also performance problems with browsing in repositories and taxonomies when we used EP5 SP5.
We updated our portal to EP5 SP6 and installed CM SP6 Patch 1 for improving the performance in the content management component.

EP Portal iview performance

Hi,
We have portal 7.0 sp 6 and we have iview based on this
The iview contains BW webtemplates based dashboard.
The initial loading times seems to be very slow.
Is there any way to improve the webtemplate performance by precalculating it

Hoa, all the calculating stuff is done in that case by your backend, so you cant take any influence on the bottle neck from the portal. You need to ask your BI guys, who are apparently very wasteful with resources while programming or maybe the context of the application is really that heavy, to optimize the BI application you wanna run,

MSS - Team - Performance Management - Maintain Performance Documents

Hi,
When I click on the Maintain Performance Documents the page opens and shows only one iView - 'Status Overview'. As I understand it, this page is supposed to have two iViews on it, but the other iView 'Performance Management Document' is missing. So I can see my list of employees, but when I click on them, nothing happens. Anyone else run into this problem?

As sujan said is right, When you click on Maintain performance Document it opens Status Overview Iview
its display list of employees , initial if you have no appraisal its display blank cell In preparation colume,
if you have appraisal it display Performance Maintain Document iView(BSP) is App - HAP_DOCUMENT with all list of option for approval.
You can also create appraisal in Create Appraisal Document in ESS.
Please points if helpful.

Iview Cache setting

So I'm thinking about improving my iview performance by making a setting change on the iview.
from: cache - NONE
to: cache - SHARED
But the cache validity period. Does it even matter here?

Hi Mike,
As the iview performance is improved by Caching, the cache level palys a prominent role.
The cache levels are of four options in all. namely Shared, User, Roles, Session and No Level(none).
Cache validity is respected, regardless of any particular cache level, except for None. For example, if the cache level is Session, and the cache validity is set to two hours, the iView content is retrieved from the source the first time a user logs on, and then comes from the cache for the next two hours only, even if the session lasts four hours.
So the cache validity period does matter if we are using the calche level option and for No cahche level it does not depend on the performance of the iveiw.

MSS employee search refresh frequency

Hi all,
In MSS on the iview employee_search that contains a table with the manager employees. There is a small link 'Refresh' on bottom right, that refreshes the table.
How can I change the frequency of this refreshing time? Is it possible to refresh everytime the page is loaded?

Team= Personnel Developent= Employee Search

Dear Experts.
I have the following question:
What is the cause for that in the Manager Self Service =>Team=>Personnel Developent=>Employee Search
the portal not update(display) the information of the employee Direct Reports.?
I made the following test:
1) Chief with personnel number 10 assign in the infotype 0105 subtype 001 the user chief_mss and display the employee.
2) Deallocate(delete) the register of the infotype 0105 subtype 001 the user chief_mss for the personnel number 10 and assign this user to the personnel number 20 that also is chief and have other employees in his responsability.
However the system follow showing the same employees of the chief 10.
I check the t.code PPEM - for know that employee have a chief in responsability.
Anyone have an idea of What is the cause of this issue?

Dynamic thread creation in Forums

Dear All,
Is it possible to create/start a new thread in Forums dynamically, based on some eventing ?
Like, I have an jsp containing a check-box and a text-box, if this jsp is submitted with the check-box checked then a new thread should be automatically created in Forums section of the portal with the Subject as mentioned in text-box, without any manual intervention. Can it be achieved ?

Again we have the same problem here. When you post it redirects you to
/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=.....
and since you don't have /irj in the url it automatically redirects you to :
/irj/portal/forums?ForumsTarget=thread.jspa?threadID=...
You have to create an "Forum Iview" with quick link "forums" as desribed in forum installation guide.
1. In the portal, choose Content Administration -> Portal Content.
2. In the Portal Content Studio locate the target folder for your new iView.
3. In the context menu of the target folder, choose New -> iView.
4. Select the custom iView template for forums.
5. Enter the required values and then choose Finish.
6. Select Open the object for editing.
7. In the property editor for each of the forums iViews, perform the following steps:
1. Select the property category Forums Configuration.
2. For the property View on Forums, select Forums.
3. Select the property category Navigation.
4. For the property Quick link, enter forums.

Error in "Maintain Performance Documents" Iview

Hi,
I have a Iview in MSS - "Maintain performance documents".
When I open the Iview(Status Overview) through MSS it shows the documents link.But when I click on the links in Status Overview I am getting the following error.
Portal runtime error.
An exception occurred while processing your request. Send the exception ID to your portal administrator.

After checkign the portal log I can see teh error as follows

Which system attribute it is talking about? Not getting from where its showing SAP_Localsystem..I checked the system object used in Iview.It is working fine.
There are no authorization errors also.
When I chekced the iview being opened after clicking on link in "Status Overview",
it is pointing to standard iview.How do I make it point to customized iview pointing to my client at R/3.
Please suggest what might be the solution.

Have you performed the connection tests for your system object ? Please share the results . Make sure that you are pointing to the correct client in your backend .
I hope you are using system alias name in the property of the iview . To me it looks that there is something wrong with system object or may be an improper configuration .

Calculating roundtime for iviews - Portal performance monitoring

Dear Gurus,
I have a bunch of iviews that need to be monitored. I am running these BI integrated iviews and want to calculate the rountime for them. currently the way I am doing it, is I enter the variable values for each of the iviews and run them, I switch on a stop clock and then wait till the results come up in the portal. The average run time right now is around 8 mins. This is not because of the portal but because of the time lapse in the back end as well.
Are there any performance parameters I can activate, or a log I can look into to see the rountime for the iviews without having to manually track the time.
Any help is appreciated, and generous points for useful answers.

The method System.currentTimeMillis() returns the current time in milliseconds of type LONG.
Define a long attribute in the component controller context. map it to the first and last views in the iview. Then in the doInit of the first view of the iview, set it's value to System.currentTimeMillis(). Then, at the end of the last view, use the formula
Long l = System.currentTimeMillis() - wdContext.currentContextElement().get<YourLongAttribute>();
This will give the roundabout time taken by the entire iview to execute.
Divide it by 1000 and u can get the time in seconds, and then divide it by 60 and it gets converted into minutes. print it using ur message manager.
Below is the small snippet of code i used.

Note: wdDoExit() was My last method to get executed. if u use something else, substitute this there.

IViews in Flexible Performance Management

Hello Experts,
I trying to use the Flexible Appraisal with Enhancement Package 4, but I can not see the the following iViews under the path indicated on Portal:
MSS (Manager Self-Service ==> Talent Management ==> Performance Management)
ESS (Employee Self-Service ==> Career and Job ==> Appraisal Documents)
Please, is there any special step in back/front end for me do before use them?

I have checked and we are updated with Business Package 1.141 for MSS and ESS.
Since I'm using the Flexible Appraisal and I have already activated only the business function CA_HAP_CI_1, my questions now are:
1 - Are there any ICF services to be activated?
2 - Do I need to activate any other business function?
3 - Do I need to do any setting in back end? I eyeball the link bellow, but I do not know if it is enough or there are other tasks:

Status overview iView not refreshed for performance documents on MSS

Hi Experts,
We are using the standard portal business package for Manager Self Service. However, recently, we found out that one iView was working before suddenly stopped working. This is the Status Overview iView for Maintain Performance Documents. When searching for the performance appraisal documents for a group of direct report employees, the status overviewtable is not refreshed. Although we do have the appraisal documents in
R/3, the iView shows 0 results.
we use MSS 600 SP 8 BP

Performance of Portal/VC-iViews

Hi,
is there any influence of the log/trace-level on the performance of complex VC-models (the running iViews)? Which severities should be activated in which components? Are there any best practicies on productive systems? Any other influences, I can work on?

Keeping a componentized VC model would certainly help.
By componentization i mean putting the complex iViews(containing more than 20 UI elements) into Nested iviews.
