BW  Reporting  versus  R/3 Reporting

Hey Gurus ,
i know that
r/3 is optimized for day today transactions ie; its a OLTP system, so it would not be as efficient in reporting as BW which is multi dimensional system (OLAP) ..
but why some organizations uses R/3 as well as BW simultaneously ?
also some uses R/3 only  ?
is this bcoz some reports can be generated only out of R/3 ?
any ideas  ..
thanks in advance
Swapnil

Hi,
In most of the cases the R/3 report are bulit before BW reports and users are using it for a long time and in most of the cases BW reports are verified against these R/3 reports only.
There is some how the feeling that R/3 reports are more reliable.
as it doesn't have the issue of wrong data loads or getting pulled in another system.
I haven't faced any situation where any R/3 report cannot be replicated in BW the only issue in replication will be extra effort compared and simuntaneously manpower spent.
In most of the cases business analyst in the client locations decides  which report report in R/3 needs to be replicated in BW depending upon the user requirements and of course budget.
Hope it clears
Thanks

  • Performance: Reports Builder versus Running on mid tier report server.

Folks are wondering why a report takes 15 minutes when running on the middle tier report server, paper layout, pdf output displayed via adobe, versus running the paper layout from a laptop within Reports Builder.
Any thoughts about the performance differences we now face with the 3 tier set up or suggestions on what we might tweak?

    hello,
unfortunately your post did not specify what the difference in performance is and whether you are connecting to the same database and what platform your deployment environment as oppsed to your dev environment is.
there are certainly some performance differences expected if the depoloyment platform is significantly different from the development paltform, but those differences should not be significant.
there are certain things that might cause performance differences (e.g. graphs in reports, using DISPLAY vs. DEFAULT_DISPLAY on unix platforms, etc.) so knowing a bit more about your platform would be helpful.
also it would be interesting to know if you see a similar degredation with other reports or even the test.rdf that comes with the product. last, but not least, have you tried to deploy your report to the OC4J that comes with the developer suite ? if so, do you see timings similar to the builder or more to your app server execution times ?
    thanks,

  • Crystal Reports for VS2010 versus Crystal Reports 2011

I'm not exactly new to CR, however, I have been away from it for a while and am now being tasked to work with this product again. Alot has changed in that period of time. I'm currently using Visual Studio 2010 and I have learned that Crystal Reports is no longer integrated within Visual Studio but available from SAP as a free download as Crystal Reports 2010 and will essentially be a plug in to the Visual Studio 2010 development environment once installed.
In my effort to find a sample database as well as any additional documentation related to Crystal Reports 2010, I'm finding and/or seeing a lot of information related to Crystal Reports 2011 and little or nothing related to Crystal Reporst 2010.
    1. Is CR2011 a seperate, stand-alone product versus CR2010, which is now a seperate download and plug in product to VS2010?
    2. Are there any sample databases, sample reports, sample .NET code available for CR2010?
    3. Do I have it all wrong and CR2010 is really CR2011 and SAP is just trying to confuse everybody?
    Marlon

    Hi Marlon,
    1. Is CR2011 a seperate, stand-alone product versus CR2010, which is now a seperate download and plug in product to VS2010?
CR 2011 is the Full standalone Report Designer, no SDK with it. The CR for VS 2010 is the plugin that was shipped within the VS .NET as an included plug-in , you just have to install it separately with VS 2010. The complimentary SDK is in CR for VS 2010 which has the matching CR 2011 report Designer.
    2. Are there any sample databases, sample reports, sample .NET code available for CR2010?
No, but you can use the ones from our download page: These are for[ CR XI R2|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100005852352008E/cr_xi_xtreme_rep_smpl_en.zip] and is based on the old reports that you are familiar with.
For sample code see this [page|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/CrystalReportsSDKSampleApplications], lots of them available.
RAS is the new Report Designer RCAPI SDK and you can find the help for the SDK from the same page you downloaded the installer.
    3. Do I have it all wrong and CR2010 is really CR2011 and SAP is just trying to confuse everybody?
We are trying to confuse everyone... just kidding. It's the way the latest builds are released. CR 2011 has no SDK and CR for VS 2010 is the SDK for CR 2011.
You'll also notice that CR for VS 2010 is version 13 and CR 2011 is version 14 which matches Business Objects Enterprise Version 4.0
    Thanks

  • Changed number format in vs 2008 versus crystal report format

I am using Crystal report designer  11.0.0.1.282  and I am able to see the numbers in the format I want . example is the year 2012,2013, etc.
I don't want any decimal  point to be applied to this like 2013.00 because it is just the year and it should be 2013. when I ran the report in preview inside the designer  , everything looks fine. but when I ran the report from our client application, the year format comes as 2013.00
In the Crystal report designer, I have checked the File menu /Options , when the Options dialog that opens up , I have selected Fields tab and have chosen the Number field and have selected the Style for the numbers through all the report to be -1123
the report used to show up with correct format up until a couple of weeks ago, so I am not sure what may have caused this. I was hoping there might be a solution to this.
I have attached how the year shows in the chart legend both in designer and from our client application (VS2008)
greatly appreciate any help and if you could point me to right direction

    Thanks!

    Hello,
Just to let you know we figured this one out.  At some point I'd installed Crystal Reports Designer XI R1 on the server (must have service packed it as well).  This is a good thing as it's helped troubleshoot various connection issues etc.
However this overwrote the prompt.dll file, the version of the new file was 11.0.0.2478.  I've since installed Business Objects XI R1 on my local machine without Crystal Reports to see what the version of the prompt.dll file would be.  It was 11.0.0.1282 so I replaced the newer prompt.dll with the older one and problem fixed.

  • Reporting Services Native versus High Availability SharePoint integrated?

    SQL noob here, thanks.
I'm building a new 2008R2 HA SQL server that's part of a SharePoint farm. I'm looking at the Reporting Services Configuration Manager side by side with the old server.
Old server: Report Server Mode is Native
    HA server: SharePoint integrated
I want the SQL setups to be as consistent as possible, but don't see a way to switch the HA server to Native. Doable? I read
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326407(v=sql.105).aspx but I want to keep the same database name. Can I delete the SharePoint Integrated Report Server DB and recreate
    as native?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi scogordo,
According to your description, you want to switch to native mode for the HA server with SharePoint. Right?
In Reporting Services, as you can see in your link, we have to specify a database running at native mode as report server database. Since you still want to keep the previous database name, we suggest you change the name of previous database.
Then use the previous name for the new created native mode database.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.
    Best Regards,

  • Running Reports with WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT versus RUN_REPORT_OBJECT

Where I work I work alone on developing and delivering Oracle applications. I've found a way of running reports in 10g over the web using WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT, I've embedded my own security in the BEFORE PARAMETER FORM trigger of the reports.
I don't have time to trawl through thousands of pages of documentation and I need to know whether there is a fundamental drawback of using WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT over RUN_REPORT_OBJECT? I've got everything working OK in my test environment, but it's not clear reading the Oracle documentation whether there is a major drawback with this method, in particular I'm interested in any performance/load issues. I'm slightly worried because most people seem to use RUN_REPORT_OBJECT (which has all sorts of issues, such as parameter form incompatibility etc), I've found that WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT is much easier to implement as it avoid the parameter form issue, displaying the user credentials in the source html and being able to type in any jobid in a url to receive other peoples reports.
I've read as much as I can including the Forms and Reports integration document and the Usability Matrix and can't find anything obvious. I would be very grateful for any comments.

Good call .... I included some of the code from your linked document to create a forms library from which to run reports. This uses the inate ability of reports to generate HTML parameter forms at runtime. Very handy. Most of our reports that we upgaded recently took little or no effort.

  • Running Reports within a Form 10g (versus 6i)

Ok, I've read quite a few threads on here and a whitepaper on running Reports in 10g and I'm still having trouble.
1.) In Client/Server 6i, we used to the HOST command. I know I can use the WebUtil utility to make the existing code trying to work but, I don't want to do that initially. I want to use the RUN_REPORT_OBJECT and WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT to make this work. I'm using RHEL 5 to try and do this.
    - Where my trouble lies is the URL that makes it work. I thought the URL I have to pass is "Http:server:port/reports/rwservlet/getjobid-jobid?server-reports_server_name. It's not launching at all so I was wondering if I did something wrong. I'm just used to the HOST command so, I'm not sure what I have to pass to make this work. I have a report that I can launch in Report Builder and bring up in Previewer but, I want to run via my Oracle Form now.
2.) We do overnight reporting where we spit out a queue of reports and in client/server, we have a command that generates all the reports on the server then, when the users come in the morning, all they have to do is open a screen and print. Is there a way to do this batch type processing for large number of reports? Mind you, during these report generation, we have reports that print out to several different paper sizes so we rendered that are part of the parameter when generating them.
Any help is appreciate in this matter. I realize these are not easy questions so I appreciate any feedback one can give in either matter. For this thread, I'm more interested in the answer to #1 for now.
    Regards,
    Chris

Don't know if these are typos in your url, the correct url is
Http://server:port/reports/rwservlet/getjobidJOBID?server=reports_server_nametry to "type" the url in an empty brower-window to check if its correct.
On "batch reporting", have a look at the database package srw, which comes with the 10DS-installation (the scripts are located in $ORACLE_HOME/reports/server/sql)

  • Crystal Reports Versus Sharepoint Issue

    Hi,
We recently purchased Crystal Reports Server 2008 for our company, we've installed it successfully onto our reporting hardware but when we come to install the portal integration kit on our sharepoint server it throws an error indicating that the business objects XI v3.1 . NET SDK must be installed before the process can proceed. Where can I get this SDK from?
    Regards,
    Charles

You need to make sure you are installing CR Server 2008 V1 as it has the .NET SDK, V0 does not.
If it is V1 and you are installing onto a seperate web server you can install the Client tools for CR Server 2008 and that will install the .NET SDK.

  • Scaling in reports BPC5 Versus BPC7NW

I copied the BPC5.1 reports and using in BPC7NW.
Though all 5.1 reports are working after copying to BPC 7NW  ..some reports are having issues with scaling. In 5.1 reprots the scaling is defined in reports in the 'scaling control' property in reports 'Control Panel' to show in 1000's. It was working well with BPC5.1 systems. Whe the reports are copied to BPC7NW  the same scaling property is not working.
Is there any difference between 5.1 vs 7nw for the scaling control?

  • Reporting Agent versus Query

    Hi,
I run a query in the BEx by selecting 2 cost centers A and B and I receive both results.
When I execute the job with the reporting agent I receive only the first cost center.
How can I debug this ? Any idea what could be the reason ?
    Thanks for your help,
    IE

    Hi Adem,
The query gives the expected results.
The problem is that the reporting agent doesn't give the result of one cost center. I use the reporting agent to print the results of the query.
Cost centers are given as a selection in the query.
    Any idea ?
    Thanks,

  • Report Painter versus ABAP Report

    Hi everyone:
Can someone tell me what are pros and cons of developing OR Running reports in Report Painter?
Secondly can someone tell me when should one develop reports in ABAP and when should one develop reports in Report Painter?
    Thanks in advance
    R

Almost the entire SAP R3 System is written in ABAP u2013 including the Report Painter.
The Report Painter is a tool for the end user to create evaluation reports without having to involve the IT Department. He therefore has the information he requires within the limitations of the Report Painter very quickly.  No programming involved.
An ABAP Report has to be written by a programmer/developer. It takes much longer, has to be tested, and, when everything is okay, be transported into the production system. This is time consuming and expensive. The report may have to modified at a later date u2013 again by a programmer/developer, which in turn also costs more time and money.  A report created using the Report Painter can be modified or created immediately by the end user, i.e. low costs, immediate results.
I hope this clarifies the matter.

  • ALV Reports versus ABAP drilldown or high volume data

Which is better with regards to performance? An ALV grid or an ABAP drilldown ?
I am very concerned about performance given the high volume of data and therefore not sure if I should use ALV?
    input is appreciated
    J

    hi JJ,
ALV reporting is always having lot of advantages over abap reproting in many ways,
performace increases due to the use of
object oriented cocepts like classes, objects and methods
by using the line type and row type internable declarations..
    and user friendly out put

  • Assigning Different database governance limit for on demand versus scheduled report in BOEXI release 1

    Post Author: Lucia Chan
    CA Forum: WebIntelligence Reporting
I'm trying to use connection overrides for universe to assign different CPU processing limit for different group members on the database side.  For those with low CPU limit setting, they would need to schedule their reports.  I'm trying to find out if there is any way for the database to know if the report is on demand or scheduled.  If scheduled, there should be no limit.  I did a preliminary test with both on demand and scheduled WebIntelligence reports and both passed the wiReportServer.exe instead of wiJobServer.exe on the database side as AppName.  Does anyone have any suggestion to look at that can differentiate the two?
    Thank you.

All the mesages are dated "Aug 13" which is quite a few months ago ! I see no recent messages.
You have two CREATE CONTROLFILE calls and one alter database character set INTERNAL_CONVERT ZHS16GBK call.
Were these part of a Database Creation using DBCA (The Database Creation Assistant) ?
