BW system performance monitoring query

Hello SAP BW Experts,
I have a requirement in my project to set up a query to monitor the BW system performance which satisfies the below points.
1. query should have a fixed, defined content which is not changing over the time (e.g. a fixed list of customers for a long closed month). This query should
be executed once every hour (and therefore should be reasonable small).
2. the run-time of this query should be recorded and the results written back to the technical content.
3. setup a query which is reading and reporting this technical content.
Please let me know if this is something to do with the reports on technical content cubes and which on which cube this requirement can be met.
Thanks in anticipation.
BR,
Mohan

Hello,
Yes the Query run time data will be automatically captured in cube. No there is no need to add any process type after creating any new query because it is a global data collector. It doesnt depend on specific query and provider.
You can also check further documentation on the providers mentioned on net. It willl help you to understand better. PLease check following document:
http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/50f95b21-7fb8-2910-0c81-f6935d4c654b?overridelayout=true
Some part of above document wil help you understand the working. Overall document is about BW administration cockpit. But you can make use according to your requirement.
Thank You.

    Hi Sam,
Please advice me for the ORACLE system performance Monitor. There are lots of options - from within Oracle itself to 3rd

you're in trouble since you won't be able to detect any changes from a

As was suggested, use AWR (if you're licenced), if not, use Statspack,
every 30 mins or so and check to see if there are any bottlenecks.

  • Performance Monitor Installation

Space is limited in our environment. Couldn't we just configure the performance monitoring tables in a Development Environment? Instead of creating PSSYS Sytem database?

this is from the documentation that I have for PeopleTools 8.48 Peformance Monitor
    Setup for The Monitored System
    Performance Monitor Element Description
Server process agents One agent exists for each of the following server processes
running within an application server domain:
    • PSAPPSRV
    • PSQCKSRV
    • PSQRYSRV
    • PSMONITORSRV
    • PSSAMSRV
    • PSANALYTICSRV
For example, The Monitored System would be Production. The Monitoring System would be PFSYS. Once you enable • PSANALYTICSRV on the Application Server for Production, The PS Browser Navigation becomes extremely slow within Financials. Once I turn off the • PSANALYTICSRV within the Application Server, Navigation returns to normal. I tried this on both a Financials and HR/Payroll Environment to see if the users would be impacted by slow performance when they are navigating. There is definitely an unacceptable decline in performance.
To collect data from a Production environment if I didn't have to turn on • PSANALYTICSRV within the Monitored Application Server, then the performance would probably be acceptable. I don't know if this server process has to be enabled. If it doesn't, then I can move on to try and get Performance Monitor working. I stopped due to the performance problem.
    Thanks for your quick responses.

  • Judging System Performance ... (was System Overload Problem...)

In a previous thread (was System Overload Problem...) ... I encountered system overload errors as described, while the system performance monitor showed almost no usage for either the disk I/O or the audio monitors.
I was just using some audio Instruments and a few plug-in's ( as was listed in the previous thread) ...
Question: So, and I missing something, or - how can we actually judge the system performance related to actual CPU usage? It seems as though there should be a third column ...
    - 1 for disk I/O
    - 1 for audio
    - 1 for CPU
I would appreciate any insights on this matter.

If you do a search for '10010' (also other 1001x errors) or 'error' you'll find plenty of threads of people with the same errors without good reason for the error's description-sometimes it is a driver conflict but the error returned is system overload. These errors are not always indicative of what actually caused the problem.

And there are many little prefs, processes or actions which may trigger it. Many of them go unresolved.

  • Performance monitoring in a multitier system

    Hello,
Is it possible to identify a session by a service name (for performance monitoring) in a multitier system? I mean, the session of an X user precisely.
    Thank you.

    >
Is it possible to identify a session by a service name (for performance monitoring) in a multitier system? I mean, the session of an X user precisely. The critical thing here is whether you have control over the code or not - what's
    your situation?
If you do have control, then instrument your code.
If not, you can use a monitoring framework - say Nagios - but don't forget the old
traditionals such as syslogd and logging different component messages to a
central logging server. Don't neglect the OS native tools. The problem with these
is that it is difficult to tie one particular session to performance problems.
Having a test system is also a very* good idea - you can run just one session and
see exactly what's happening in a given situation. In fact, if you don't have a test system,
your first* priority after reading this post should be to implement one.

  • System Performance(Health) Monitoring Tool

    Hi Experts,
We need to monitor our BW system performance at the database level, OS level, Data Retrieval level, Data loading level. Is there any tool or BW queries to track the performance?
    Regards,
    D. Dinesh

    Hi Dinesh,
I think the best tool is to subscribe an Early Watch report from BW, you can find all necessary information under www.service.sap.com/bi. SAP will send you a very detailed report with all your problem in the system at every level (DB - AWB - BEx - GUI - ...).
If you do not want this report (you must pay to have it) you can try with Statistics, check in Business Content for all related Structures, also if I am not sure this will satisfy all your requirements.
    Ciao.
    Riccardo.

  • Easiest way to monitor query performance?

    Hi,
What is the easiest method to track query performance? I need information about data collection from DataSource, data processing speed and front-end performance.
I would like to compare the results when:
    1. the query is executed directly from BEx/WAD and
    2. the query accessed from portal.
So basically I'm looking for a tool-set to monitor reporting performance at query level, per user.
    -Miikka

It really depends on how indepth you want to go with your monitoring.  You could issue the show interface command and view the details there.  You could also view the top talkers on the ASDM dashboard. And another option is to use Netflow.
Outside of that you would need to get either get Cisco Prime or another 3rd party monitoring software.

  • Will a Dual Monitor config. affect system performance?

I have an ATI Mac SE card installed [256 megs] in my dual G5 with 4 gigs of system ram.
Will a second monitor on the card affect system performance in any way?
    thanks.

    Paul,
How I distribute things depends on the size and relationship of the monitors.
One of the great things about FCP is you can save a great number of custom setups so, just play around and SAVE each set up. You can always delete ones that don't do it for you later.

  • System for monitor performance.

    Hello Good Sirs and Madames
I am student in university and I study computer and enginerring
    I have assign interesting
You are a consultant to a multi-national which wishes to reduce their IT budget without
sacrificing performance. As the technical person on the consulting team, you have
been assigned the task of assessing the performance and cost (TCO) of different
database systems on various operating systems and your report will be the basis
of the ultimate report submitted to the client.
The managing director of your client is particularly interested in reducing the licence
fees that his company pays to Oracle and wants the project to concentrate on
    Open Source alternatives to Oracle.
The databases that shall be evaluated are:
    Oracle
    MySQL
    Postgresql
    Firebird
    Derby/JavaDB
    SQLite
These systems will be evaluated on Windows 2008 Server, Linux (CentOS), Solaris
and OpenBSD (insofar as this is possible).
The server will run an Apache web server and various standard workloads will be tested.
The project description is very long so I delete much. my question dear sirs and madames is about monitor software. my teacher say me that I first take "baseline" for all system and then install datbase and run test and monitor operating system performance. What are good way monitor operating system windows, linux and bsd?
I thank you kind Sirs and Madames for any answer.
    Rajiv

Speaking to you as the person that wrote the Oracle curriculum at the University of Washington and taught it for ten years ... your description of your project is starting out with a D grade at best.
A database is not a spreadsheet with more horsepower. It is not a collection of bytes organized into rows and columns. You have missed the most important aspects of the assignment ... at least as I would grade it.
Here's what I would want to see you address.
    1. Are there any governance and compliance issues? For example credit card numbers, tax identification numbers, proprietary financial data? If there are any replacement database must have encryption, security, secure backup, secure replication, auditing, and other capabilities. Oracle has them ... nothing else you listed does.
    2. Is there an Service Level Agreement (SLA) that must be met? Can you achieve 99.99+% availability with all of these systems? Can you perform rolling patches? What is the support like when you have an outage? When you upgrade to new servers? To new storage? Replace failed or aged-out network components?
    3. Is it scalable? Will it grow with the business requirements? Are you going to need to do something tomorrow you are not doing today? I just implemented a database with XML BINARY storage ... could I have done that in some inexpensive toy? What if I needed to store DICOM medical images? What if I needed to store non-scalar data types?
    4. What is my ability to hire professionals in the marketplace that can deploy and manage the system long-term? Try to find an Oracle DBA ... easy in any country. Try to find a Firebird DBA? How many resume's are you going to be choosing from?
    5. What is the stability of the company providing the product? Will they exist three years from now? Will they become part of IBM or Cisco or EMC or just be purchased for the pure joy of putting them out of business? For example where is the Ingres database today?
    6. What is the overhead going to be migrating current database objects and code, as well as external application layer code to the new database product? Two years ago I participated in a project where the company was considering moving from Oracle to Teradata. The cost of rewriting the application was more than 300% the cost of the new hardware. They woke up and went to Exadata.
    7. Do any of your current employees have production-level expertise with the new product? In the real world none of them will. No one in an Oracle shop has ever run production Derby. So assuming you could find a team that has are you going to fire your current employees? Or perhaps your plan is to train them and think they will enthusiastically want to learn something that will cut down their long-term employment prospects? Or send them to the university to learn it ... not that there are any classes or peer groups ... or user conferences, etc.
Real TCO, not kids-in-the-sandbox-TCO, requires that you have a price tag for every single aspect of the entire cost on the enterprise. Do you know the cost of hiring and training a new DBA?
If you have no database infrastructure you can look at TCO as a measure of which direction to travel. But if you have a mature organization the cost of change is almost always going to force you to stay exactly where you are with the possible exception of slowly moving to a new architecture on an incremental basis over many years.

  • How to monitor query usage / query activity in the system?

I am using 0TCT_MC01 to report the number of times the query was executed and by which user.
    According to SAP Documentation,
The Technical Content for BI Statistics does not provide any standard queries for doing this. But you can easily create your
monitoring query based on the InfoProvider 0TCT_MC01 or 0TCT_C01 by using the key figures 0TCTQUCOUNT (counts every
navigation in a query) and 0TCTWTCOUNT (counts every call of a BI Application = initial opening of Workbook or Web Template).
0TCTWTCOUNT is a key figure in the cube.  How to restrict this KF to display only Initial opening of Workbook or web template ?
    Regds,

    hi,
Use the follwoing CHARS for restriction in report from cube 0TCT_VC01.
0TCTBISOTYP --> Type of BI Application
0TCTBIOTYPE --> Type of BI Application Object
    I hope it will help.
    Thanks,

  • How do I write/use performance monitor to run an action when something happens?

I notice that I get a popup if desktop resources are over-used asking me if I want to turn off the glass desktop.
    That's fine.
I've been looking in Performance Monitor for how this is done, as I have a program that periodically runs amok and starts indexing my Documents directory.  I usually start to notice my machine getting sluggish when the process gets to about 1.5-2+GB
in Virtual and working memory.  At that point it seems to be increasing it's network usage rate geometically, and interrups will start getting delayed or lost -- keyboard will lock up for periods, lots of things freezing temporarily (music will get 10-20
second dropouts)  It can even cause a complete system lockup
So what I would like to do is monitor any instance of this process by name ('explorer'), and restart it when it gets to over 1.5GB of usage.
I setup a monitor of virtual size and working memory in the performance monitor, but I don't see how to set up an alarm that starts an action to restart it.  (restarting it will cause the problem to go away for anywhere from a few hours to several days).
I've no clue as to what triggers it.
I found a bunch of XML scripts in
    Windows/pla/Rules with names like:
    Rules.System.CPU.xml*
    Rules.System.Common.xml*
    Rules.System.Configuration.xml*

Question is, how can I setup it for calling a trigger script when
parameters for Explorer get out of spec.
On confusing issue that stopped me from proceeding, was the time schedule to run the report:
    I only allows for once/day.
I need / want continuous monitorying -- say at 1 minute or 3 minute intervals (5 might work, not sure -- doesn't take long for Explorer to get to 1-2G with a network connection of 10Gb.
So how can I monitor and control it?
    A side issue -- I notice a resource-control agent for Win 2008 -- but this was disabled for Win7.
Anyone know why resource usage on Win7 was considered less important than on Win2k8 server?
My version of Win7 is Win7-x64-sp1 "Ultimate" [sic] (it doesn't include professional features like resource control)...
Thanks...This has bothered me for over a year and has persisted through new profiles and reinstalls of of the OS.
I have a feeling it is related to MS disabling Network disks in their indexer, so Explorer ends up doing it as a surrogage for things like the search engine (with the results not stored, because they are not local -- the worst of both worlds?)... but that's
    just a feeling...
    Thanks!

You can create a Data Collector Set (create manually, not template), then choose performance counter Alert, configure alert actions, from the script, seems you want to monitor the “physicalDisk” performance, so you can set the “physicalDiskCounters”
into alert action, please follow the instruction in the link below.
    Monitor disk space

If you want to view the detailed process related about explorer when your machine getting sluggish, I'd like to introduce a tool named process explorer to you.

It can clearly show you the processes running in your system, along with the hierarchical relationship and the cpu usage.
