BW upgrade - landscape / development paths - need help

hi - is there any whitepaper or oss note that helps provide some best practice for how to handle a landscape during a bw upgrade.
normally you would have the "normal" path to production where development occurs and is transported up. and normally in an upgrade there is some sort of dual-path i believe. the alternate path would be used for emergency transports.
if there were no development going on this wouldn't be a problem, but we have lots of development that the business will want to be able to continue during as we move through a planned ~9 month bw upgrade. at some point it has to be really frozen, but i think for the larger portion of the project there can be a workaround to allow development to continue.
any help is appreciated.

You are correct.
There are 2 main options:
1. Duel landscape, 1 for Dev and 1 for sustaiment.
2. Parallel work on 2 dev's and QA is refreshed and frozen before major releases.
3. a third option is multi clients (We explored it but did not think it is viable).

EMac 10.2.8 error during upgrade to 10.3, need help

I have a eMac PowerPC G4 with 10.2.8. Using Mac OS X Panther 10.3 discs (3 discs, Install Disc 1, 2, and 3), I attempted to upgrade. I backed-up everything on my computer and then pop-ed in Panther disc 1. It did its thing and then a prompt asked for me to insert disc 2. I did and installation started okay. Then it stopped and said "There were errors installing the software." It gave me no options but to quit. When I open "About This Mac" it says the computer op system is 10.3.
What to do? Is my computer half installed, trapped in this world and the next? What should my next steps be?

I'll suggest two options:
1. Erase the drive and restore your old system from the backup. Before attempting to reinstall OS X Panther do the following:
Boot from your OS X Installer. Be sure to use the installer for the version of OS X you have installed. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu if using Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now proceed with installing OS X Panther using the Upgrade option or the Archive and Install option.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.1.1 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Do the following:
a. Boot from your Panther installer Disc 1. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
b. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
c. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
d. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
e. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
f. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
g. When the formatting is completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed to do a clean install of OS X.
h. Once you complete the installation download and install the 10.3.9 Combo Updater from Apple.
i. After installing the combo updater you can transfer your personal files from your backup. I would recommend re-installing your third-party software being careful to install only those that are known to be compatible with Panther. Otherwise get upgrades to Panther compatible versions.
I highly recommend the second option because it will provide a clean system from the start without any possible problems associated with upgrading over an older system that could be corrupted.

Upgraded to Windows 7 need help

Hello All. I'm a newbie as far as understanding the wireless connection world. Anywho, I had to upgrade my PC tower and I went from windows XP to Windows 7. I have a WRT54G router and a WUSB54GS network adapter. WIN7 automatically downloaded the needed updates for the network adapter. When I look in "network connections", I can see area network connections (folks in my neighborhood) but, I can't see mine. I know my router is working because I can get on the internet on my laptop wirelessly. My network adapter can see all wireless networks within range except mine. I downloaded and instaleed the latest firmware onto the router. Okay, that is about my limit of knowledge of the wireless world. Can anyone help a newbie out? Thanks in advance.

As you upgraded the router's firmware,I would suggest you to reset the router for 30 seconds and re-configure the router from scratch.While configuring the router,change the Wireless Channel on the router to 11-2.462GHz.

Trying to upgrade OS X and need help

I have a 1.5 Ghz PowerPC G4 with 1 GB SDRAM with Mac OS X 10.3.9 and I am trying to upgrade the OS but am having problems. I have tried to install 10.4.7 and when I restart the computer an error screen comes up. Can anyone help me ?

First of all, Welcome to the  Discussion Forums!
This may be a stupid observation...but...you mention that you tried to install 10.4.7....which led me to think that you might be trying to download and "update" the software using the 10.4.7 Apple download. If you are new to Macs, perhaps a Windows switcher, you might not be aware that you need to purchase full retail install disks to upgrade from one full OS version to the next ie. 10.3 Panther to 10.4 Tiger. Point updates to the OS such as 10.3.x-10.3.9 are free updates via Apple Downloads as are 10.4.x-10.4.12 etc.

When I noticed that you mentioned the specific "point" update to 10.4 (.7) I thought there might be the outside chance that this might be the problem. This is a common mistake that many users make so I just wanted to mention in case you were not aware.
My apologies if that is not the problem and hence it is probably as Tom suggests that you are using the wrong type of disk to install,

Hi, I just upgraded to mavericks and need help!

When I purchaced the mac I was married and my ex set it up using her apple id. I have no idea what her id is. Can anyone help or did I throw away my cpu because I upgraded.

Purchases and downloads made via the App Store are tied to an Apple ID and you don't have one.
How did you download Mavericks? Her old ID?
Then you'll need to revert the machine to its "original" OS (the version it shipped with), Get your own Apple ID and download Mavericks again.

Adobe Reader registry keys gone when upgrading to 9.1; Need help finding

I had a couple of registry values disappear after the install of 9.1
Disable JavaScriopt in Adobe:
HKCU\Software\adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\JSPrefs (I can no longer find this key)
"bEnableJS"dword:00000000
Disable the displaying of pdf documents in web browser
HKCU\Software\adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals (I can no longer find this key)
"BrowserIntergration"=dword0000000
I am fully aware of finding the options that turn on/off the options above through the adobe edit > preferences> Javascript and Internet options. However I want to make a script that makes these changes. I no longer know the path to these key values.
I tried a file comparison between current and and modified registry to see if I could pin-point those paths I mentioned above. They do not exist to my knowledge unless Adobe renamed the keys.
Has anyone else ran into the same problem?

Strange, not showing up in 9.1.0. Guess I need to update to 9.1.1 first and see...

Probably a better option would be use the export and import utilities provided with the database.
From within SQL*Developer you can export data as either a csv file (and then use sql*loader to load it), or as insert statements which you can run in in either sql*developer or sql*plus.
To export data in sql*developer, right-click on a table or a result set.

I am making a developer's account for iOS. I'm on the page where it says 'tell us about yourself' I dont know what to tick. I just make apps at home on my mac, will i be able to upload free and paid apps on the app store if I only tick the box which says 'Apps (App Store)'do i need to tick the 'in house apps' box. i really dont know what to do from here. Well actually, if im going to Pakistan (slow **** internet) from a 11 hour flight, i prefer not to get there and worry about making this account. I prefer to make it before i leave. Attend the 5 stage wedding i have to go to, and then come back and start using it. In pakistan you have to worry more about not getting shot then making a dev account.

Time Machine after upgrade to Mountain Lion need help

Just had Apple store upgrade my iMac to Mountain Lion and I had taken my 2T external drive with me with my most recent time machine backup. I am home and hooked up the driveand in preferences it says oldest backup; and latest backup none. The drive doesn't show up on my desktop. I thought they were going t be sure all was working.

Now I know why I was nervous about doing this myself - the power cord wasn't plugged in all the way. It seems to be backing up now. It says 228 GB of 2 TB available - backing up 2.22 of 13.33 GB - oldest backup none - is this just an incremental backup and are all of my old backups still there. This is one of the main reasons I went to the store for the install of Lion as I was concerned about my computer being completely backed up first. The assured me the time machine backup was all I needed. I guess I need reassurance right now.

Bluetooth Issues after SW Upgrade...need help.

I did have any issues with my Pearl and BMW '05 X5 Bluetooth pairing but after upgrading the Pearl software from 4.3v to 4.6v, I am now unable to pair my X5 and with the Pearl. They are able to "talk" to each other as I do see the BMWcode on my phone but then after a few seconds or so it will say it was unable to find.
So what gives? Has anyone else seen this problem after upgrading their Pearl software?

The CPU support for the board says that the CPU is supported, i installed the new CPU, but all i get is a blank screen
Re-installed the old CPU and works fine.
Have updated the bios to V1.4 like the website says...but really don't know what the problem could be...

I'm not sure what your questions is. If you are referring to replace hardware of the iMac, the only things you can replace are the memory and the hard drive. The other things are soldered onto the logic board and you won't be able to change them

I am new to illustrator and am trying to trace one of my scanned sketches on Illustrator CC. I have been watching tutorials on Youtube.com and have followed every step, but when it comes to using the pen tool, I receive a pop up message reading, "Please use the add anchor point tool on a segment of a path." I researched Adobe forums and came across another discussion with someone who had the same problem. After making the changes that people suggested to the other person's discussion, the problem still occurred with me. I am still getting the same message even after making sure I have deselected Snap to grid, etc. Can anyone please help me out!?

It sounds to me like you're using the Add Anchor Point tool instead of the Pen tool. If you are trying to trace a scanned sketch, you'll be creating content from scratch in which case you want to use the Pen tool. The Add Anchor Point tool can only modify an existing path, it can't create one. Switch to your Pen tool and see if that helps.
