BWP - BWD Sync

Hello All,
Has anyone had experience with BI upgrades when the production and development environments are out-of-sync?
A little background:
Our NW-2004s BWD and BWQ environments will be on a new box (i.e., a dual landscape for awhile). BWP will be upgraded on the existing box.
The existing BWD and BWQ clients were copied to the new box in preparation for upgrade several months ago. Delays happened in the upgrade process and during this intervening time, development (and transports) were made to BWP within the existing environment.
The months old copy of BWD has now been upgraded to NW-2004s (i.e., new-BWD). BWP has yet to be upgraded.
However, I am wondering what the effect of this mismatch will be with future transports. That is, after BWP is upgraded, it will have objects in a more recent version than the new-BWD.
Has anyone had experience with upgrades when the production environment has more advanced objects than what is in BWD? Any comments and/or solutions that you can propose?

Hi arjun,
Im not aware that you can sync them as such, but just re-transport the query to prod which will solve your problem. Then close production for chnages which will solve your problem so colleagues cant chnage quieries in prod.

Conversion of logical system

I have 3 BI box - BWD, BWQ, BWP, and 3 R3 box - R3D, R3Q, R3P, before I transport datasource, infopackage from BWD to BWQ, I configured the conversion of logical system in BWQ as: BWD -> BWQ, R3D -> R3Q, that works fine, So before I transport to P, how should I configure this mapping in BWP: BWD -> BWP, R3D -> R3P or BWQ ->BWP, R3Q -> R3P?

You can input all four or you can input the combinations going from your Q to your P system. Both will work...

Copy with change source system

Hi experts,
I have 3 logical system in 2 R/3 server . Let say TEST(Developing&Testing:server 1) PRD (Production server 2) and SIM (Simulation of PRD server 2).
and I have 2 BI server with respective logical system: BWD (Development) and BWP (Production).
The landscape is: TEST transport to PRD copy to SIM
BWD transport to BWP
BWD connected TEST, BWP connected to PRD.
All modeling and configuration have been done in BWD and were transported to BWP. Now my problem is how can test data from SIM? for this problem I intend to make connection between BWD and SIM because I don't want to test on BWP system. How can I make other transformations and DTPs for new datasources from SIM without create again all of them?
I hope you understand my issue and tell me the best solution. Pls ask me if you are not clear.

Hi,
There is no other way as for a bW system updated through the two source system,you have two create two tranfer rules or for each data source.
Or you will have to create two transformation in the case of BI 7.0.
Targets will be same in each case for the data sources, I would suggest you to create and use the option Copy in each case.Give the template as the existing transformations in each case.This will reduce the work.

Issue with links on WAD Template when transporting from BWD to BWP

Hello experts,
We're facing a problem in our project.
Until now we we're working directly in a productive system, but last week we've copied our productive system (BWP) to the development system (BWD).
Now we change almost everything in BWD and then transport to BWP.
However, our templates that have been constructed in the Web Application Designer (WAD) have some links that have dependency on the string 'bwd', example:
"http://sapbwd.tap.pt:8"
All the links with this issue are ragarding to workbooks constructed over the Excel (BEx Analyzer).
When we transport the template to BWP the link remains the same, where the link should be "http://sapbwp.tap.pt:8"
We would like to eliminate this issue, eliminating the reference to the system (BWD) or changing the link name when the template was transported to BWP.
Is there any easy way to workaround this problem?

Hi Rui,
i don't know if understood you well, but if your requirement is to restrict users and queries execution to a specific server the solution is to create logon groups (transaction SMLG1), however this solution have impact not only in reports execution but also in the login options.
In this transaction you define for a group which instance server is allowed, in your case you could specify the server where the reports should run.
I strange the fact of your Wad reports allways open in the correct server, but it could be due to authorization definitions.

BWD to BWP version compare

Hi all,
maybe a stupid question but is there an easy way to compare a set of objects between systems (BWD and BWP). My predecessor had SAP-ALL in both boxes and so things are a bit out of wack. I guess BWD is accurate and BWP may be the same.
Is the only way to collect and transport from BWD to BWP? If so what settings should I use? How to I transport custom ABAP used for processing flat files?

Go to transport connection select the infosources under it...select objects there select ur infoaource u want to transport-there is an option tpo change the paskage if u want...assign a new request..once the new request is aassigned...then go to SE10 and then release the request. Now its ready for transport.Normally after releasing the request the Basis guys transport the request.

CKF's not sync in BWD and BWR

Hi,
We had some CKF's in BWD created under the Info Provider View in Query Designer. This was transported to BWR as well.
After some requirement changes we did not want to include the CKF's created earlier anymore. We deleted them in BWD and collected the Transport to remove the same in BWR as well.
We did some error while creating the transport and it failed in BWR and these CKF's were not deleted in BWR.
Now we cant even collect the old CKF's as these have been deleted in BWD.
Let me know how these can be brought in SYNC ?

If you have the Old requests which is related to Deletion you can reimport it again, else you collect the Report freshly in DEV adn then Transport it, see the CKFs are tehre or not in Transport connection (Under Query Elements-->Calculated Key Figure), once you collect the report.

Client Copy from BWP to BWT

I had a problem with my List Cube Transaction and for that reason, I had a look at the Infoprovider and also the Data Sources.
When tried to execute the infoproviders in LISTCUBE, the following messages are being displayed in BWT system:
1. Error reading the data of InfoProvider ZIP_RC_01
2. There is still no data source assigned to VirtualProvider ZIP_RC_01
But, when executed the same in BWD, then it is working fine.
I have checked the Data Sources in the R/3 Dev system and the DS has no problem. But, when I check the DS in the R/3 Prod (SS in BWT system), the following error message is displayed in the status bar:
"DataSource Z_IP_RC_DS_1 is not defined in the source system"
I thought, as the system says the Source system is not available, hence the problem in LISTCUBE and thought if we transport the DS again and then replicate in BW, then our problem would be resolved.
But, seems that even though the source system says "PRD300", if I look at SM59 it actually points to our QAS system. It says PRD300 because BWT is a copy down from BWP, and that's the source system we use - in other words the logical name is the same, but the actual servers are different.
In any case, the datasource is transported to our QAS enviroment.
So, once we do a client copy from Prod to Test, even the source systems get copied. If yes, then does it really affect in case of replications and transports???
I am really confused in this part...please explain.

It looks like the basis team, or whoever performed the Copy from production to QA box hasn't finished all the necessary Steps :
Main transaction to know:
SSC4 -> To create new client
SCCL -> Client copy within local system
SCC9 -> remote client copy
SCC3 -> display client copy log

Changes taking place in BWD Infoobjects without actually changing them.

Dear Experts
We have have made certain changes ( like making them Authorization Relevent or Unit conversion ) in the Standard Infoobjects like in 0Material l, 0Plant, 0Bus_area etc. and tranported them to BWQ and BWP. Few days back I noticed that all these changes has been missing from these objects on BWD and the they are available in their standard form. We have not made any changes in these Infoobjects then how come the changes made by us earlier has been overwritten by std. form. We are not been able to Understand that which activity is the reason behind these changes.

Hi,
Any other user might installed the objects from business content. If the user don't select the match X while business content
(already installed objects) installation those objects will be overwrite the existing objects.
Please check the user name in infoobjects maintenance.

BWP WAD Error

Hi experts
     I make some WADs in BWD and all these WADs are running correctly. When i transfered these WADs to BWP system; some of these WADs cannot display the Query correctly! But display some Error Message ;This the Error Messages:
      ABEND RSBOLAP(000): Error Between the Class SAPMSSY1 AND Methods: UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION，
    MSGV1: SAPMSSY1
       MSGV3:UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION ;
       ABEND: System error between Program CL_RSD_MULTIPROV and table FACTORY-02-
Anyone can explain the Error Message?
How can i correct the Error?

Transport a query from BWQ to BWP

Can I transport a query which was built in BWQ by power user to BWP instead of developing in BWD and then moving to q and then P.

Thsi depends upon the process you are following. Generally we transport from dev to QA. After testing in Qa we transport it from dev to production. If there is facility of transporting from QA you can. Check whether you have authorisations to create a transport request in QA and the process/policy you follow. Else you need to make th esame changes in dev and transport to production. The best practice is as I said above.

Getting data in BWD

Hi Gurus, I have this scenario where user wants to see latest data in BWD for certain field which is not there in R3D but is there in BWP. Can anybody guide me on how I can do it. Is InfoSpoke the only answer?

Transporting DBConnect DataSource to BWQ / BWP and Oracle Instance Name

Hi,
I have a DBConnect Datasource / Source System in our BWD system that is pointing to an Oracle instance that is also a DEV system. When we go to BWQ / BWP we want the source system to point to the Oracle QA / PRD system. Is there a table where a mapping can be maintained pointing the DB Connect source system to different Oracle instances based upon the BW system that it is in?

Mel,
Create the respective dbconnect source system in BWQ and BWP. After the creation, maintain table RSLOGSYSMAP. To maintain table, go to rsa1, menu --> Tools --> Conversion of Logical System Names, and maintain the source system and target system values.

Ipod no longer sync purchased material?

Hi there. I recieve this message after i connect my ipod.

Nothing I have purchased will sync to my ipod for some reason. I bought them ages ago, they work fine in itunes on my computer, and up until recently they worked fine on my ipod also... I think it related to the fact that due to a fault with vista i was forced to 'reactivate' windows. But it was reactivated using the same key that came with the computer? weird
Any help appreciated.

Have you tried to de-authorize your computer, then to re-authorize again?
Make sure to use that ID that had been used for purchasing those 52 tracks.

Cannot sync, error message "could not be read" for an iPod no longer in use

I have two problems. I upgraded iTunes to 7.2 and the very next morning my iPod died. It is completely unresponsive. Maybe it's coincidental. So I bought a new 80 gig iPod and gave it a different name than the old dead iPod. Now when I try to sync the new iPod, it goes for about 10 minutes, then it fails with this message:
Attempting to copy to the disk "old iPod name" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.
It is complaining that it can not read the old dead iPod that is NOT hooked up to the computer! Somehow, minutes into syncing, iTunes has forgotten which iPod it is looking at. I have seen the article about the "cannont be read" message and it is not relevant. I need to make iTunes forget about the old dead iPod so it will stop looking for it. I've tried removing the files from "Documents and Settings" but iTunes still remembers the old unit. Where else does it store information? Any recommendations?

Okay, that can sometimes be caused by a Windows drive letter confusion. For troubleshooting advice on that possibility, see the following document:
