By Company name sorting ?

On a Nokia N82, is there any way (or software) for the contact manager to sort by company name ??
(my software is 20.0.062)

Yes, strange.
Knowing that most of the contact managers contains company names (and you use it to search a company, not a name - you know your insurance person ? - ).
Coming from SE (no regret though), I tought that some developper had made something to beef up the N serie OS for a pro usage (or for people with high number of company contacts).

I don't work for Apple so I can't speak on their behalf as to their desire to infiltrate the business mobile market.
All I can do is tell you what the iPhone can and can not do and recommend work arounds for problems that you may be having. From what you have said, you require a feature that the iPhone does not support and the only work around is not satisfactory to you. Given that information, the iPhone is not a good fit for your business needs so you should look into a competing product.
No one product can be all things to all people. It is up to you to decide if having an iPhone is worth the sacrifices/work arounds necessary.

Contacts Display and Sort by Company Name

I have over 1000 contacts in Outlook which synced wonderfully with my new iPhone.
Alas, I need to lookup and sort by Company Name. This is a VERY standard method for contacts. The options presented by iphone are first and last name, sigh and tech support had no suggestions and the helpful tech support genttleman could find no 3rd party applications which could help.

I have noticed something useful when entering contacts directly into my iPhone. When entering a contact that I want shown in the list by the company name, I enter the company name first (without entering the "first name" and "last name") and save it. If you do it that way, the little square where the photo would be will change from the blank head to some buildings, and the contact will be listed by the company name. You can then go back and edit to add a first and last name and it will stay listed by company name.
However, if you enter the last name, first name, and company name all at the same time it will list the entry by the "last name" instead of by the company.
For example, if I want my son's doctor's office to display as "Arizona Pediatrics" instead of "Dr. John Smith" in the contact list, I would enter the Arizona Pediatrics first, save, and then go back in and add the Dr. John Smith in the last name, first name fields.
I need to check the manual to see if this is detailed, as I stumbled on it accidentaly, but it's pretty useful.

How do I sort my address book by company name

My new iPhone comes tomorrow. I need to sort my address book in iCloud by company name, not last name first name. If I cant do this is there a third party software I can download for an address book that will allow me to do this?
PS I am currently not using an iPhone and am manually entering addresses.

Enable the menu in the Address Book. Then look at the options under View and Sort By.

I use my outlook contacts on my iPhone and need to look up by company name instead of persons name. Is this possible?

to Oracle EBS and run Report it's not sorted by CF_CUSTOMER_NAME

I would like sort my contacts by company name.

The only way sofar to do this, is create a new contact and enter the company name only and save it. Then edit and add your contacts First and Last name and save again. Example enter Apple in Company and save. Then edit and enter John Dow and save again. Now it will sort by company name. If you enter John Dow and Apple all at the first time it will sort by the person only. I cannot believe there is not a more efficient way to do this or an option that can be used. Any body has found a better way jet?!!

Yes you can "sort" by Company Name BUT....you cannot "search" by Company Name -- when you try a search it just keeps searching in the "name" fields and does NOT return a Company Name.
--if you know the name of the person you want to call (which you more than likely will) then searching by name is fine
but
--if you can't remember their name (or there are multiple names) but want to look up the company and then scroll through list of names at that company -- forget it -- I can't make it work.

N97 How to sort contacts by company name

Is it possible to sort contacts by company name rather than first name,last name etc?

This is a HUGE shortcoming of Nokia's contacts app, which is still the most awkward and "old style numeric keypad telephone" oriented applications in the Nokia software suite on smartphones.
It's the only reason why I am still sometimes missing my Blackberry. There you find everything so quickly, and not only just typing in the individual's name, nor having to use that Nokia general search tool.
But now that Nokia FINALLY introduced a year ago "finding names typing", without launching the contacts application first I still have the hope that Nokia will release one day a REALLY user friendly, fast and flexible fully integrated agenda suite...

That is not a sorting option in the built in app. There are other apps in the App Store that can access your contact information. Perhaps there is one that will let you do that.

N97 mini - Contact Sort Company, Name

my N97 mini is for Business use and I am using Mail for Exchange. Everything works perfect.
I synchronize Mails, Contacts, dates and tasks with Exchange.
In Exchange-Contacts are, along with other contact details, for me the important fields Name and Company.
When I synchronize, these fields are copied correct to the N97 mini .
In N97 mini i want to display Contacts in alphabetic order, using the fields Company, Name
I cant find settings to realize this
Can anybody help ?

I find this part of my iPhone completely weird.
With my Treo running Agendus I could see all my Contacts by their company name and the contacts name alongside. If I did a search by name or company got a result.
However with 4000 contacts in my AB/iPhone searching for people by their names is difficult. For instance, living in Wales, where Jones, Jenkins, Evans, Davies etc are very common names I could have 20 people called David Jones but only 1 that works for ACME plumbing.
Also I may want to speak to three people from Acme Plumbing, but I can't remember their surname.
At the moment my solution to this is to create Groups in AB and split my contacts amongst these i.e zip codes, company sector etc. Also I use the App ABContacts which allows you to see the Contact Name under the Company name or vice versa.
This is the one area where I really do miss my Palm Treo/Agendus

File contacts by Last Name or Company Name.

On MobileMe you where able to file contacts by Last Name or Company Name. Not able to do that in iCloud. Is there someway to do that?

Rafael is correct in that the old Mobile Me, you could choose by individual contact whether the entry was sorted by Company or last name (or first name?). There are many business contacts where I may not remember the account reps name. I want the item sorted by company but have the acct reps name included.
Now with iCloud they are overriding that option. You can only have it sort by Business Name if there is no individual's name in the contact info.
This is the common complaint that supoprts that Apple still doesn't get the Business aspect of using the software.
Here they had the feature and someone removed it.

Organize by Company name

I need to be able to sort my iphone address book by company name. I deal with companies that have cobstantly changing staff and that is the onoy way I can remember who works where! I do not see that as an option. Does anyone know of an extension or hack to do that. Thanks.

No hack necessary. Here's how to do it. When you enter the contact into your phone, enter JUST the company name and phone number, and then tap Save. Then, you can go back in and add other information like name, address, etc. When saved first with a company name only and not a last and first name, you'll notice that the little icon of the face turns instead to some buildings, indicating that the phone sees that contact as a company and not an individual person. That contact will then show up in the list by the company name instead of the person's name.
The trick is to save the contact first with just the company name, then go in and add the other stuff later.
I have not found this documented anywhere, but it works.

Centro Search by Company Name

How can I search by company name on the Centro? I can "sort" by company but I haven't found out how to search for a specific company name. Of course I can search by the person's name, but I don't always remember the person.

Using the O/S's Find function is NOT a decent answer or a fix for this problem. Only a very clumsy workaround.
See my message at this thread on this forum as to why it is such a bad way to have to do this.
Why can't Palm get this fixed? It should work the way it use to so that typing a company's name takes you to the company's record, EVEN IF YOU DO HAVE ENTRIES IN THE FIRST NAME OR LAST NAME FIELDS. This bug has existed going on over 3 years now.
There is no way this thread should be marked as solved, IMHO.

How to change the first listing for company name in contacts

How do i get the company name to show in the list instead of the persons name.
I can do this with my pc, but my dad only sync's with the cloud & I can't find how to sort showing the company name, ie APPLE instead of John Doe & can't see that he works for Apple unless you select the contact.

That isn't supported on an iPhone. There may be apps that would do this, but not the built-in contacts app. You could, of course, create contact groups on icloud.com for major companies and add the appropriate contacts to these groups, and these groups would sync to your device.

Company Names excluded in searching Contacts in Phone App - Why?

Has anyone else had a problem with searching a company name through the Phone app Contacts search function? This seems like such a basic function to me, I was surprised. Calling for a cab, or local pharmacy shouldn't require Name Field be completed. It needs a fix for sure. Please advise if anyone knows if this is a bug, OS miss, or a unique issue with my Z10? Yes this is a known issue, as well as some other sorting and search issues within the contacts app. I have reported it, not sure if it made the bug list or not.
A work around for now is to use the universal search on the home page, it seems to search all of the fields. Then click the contact from there and choose how you wish to contact them by touching the options.
