By installing Yosemite, unable to upgrade iPhoto

just installing yosemite, everything got upgraded except iPhotos and iMovies, every time i hit the upgrade button for these softwares this is the message which appears "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." pls suggest.
my mac configuration is
iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011)
processer 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
graphics AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB
serial no C02FNQWSDHJF

First, iLife and iWork applications are not installed nor updated when you upgrade OS X. They are not part of OS X.
The reason for your error is probably due to the fact that you are not the original owner of the machine, so those apps were installed by the former owner and passed on to your. However, they are still tied to his/her Apple ID, therefore, you cannot update them. You will have to purchase your own copies of the iLife apps from the App Store.

Your iPhoto library is usually kept in your pictures folder.  Did you look there?  If it is still there then you did lose your photos.  Just need to get the iPhoto app at the latest level.

  • Unable to upgrade iPhoto after installing OS X

After successfully installing OS X i've been prompted to update iPhoto, however, when attempting to do so I receive the following message: "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled". I have always used the same ID. Can you help explain how I can get this resolved as at the moment I cannot access the old version of iPhoto nor upgrade to the new version.

Have you upgraded to Yosemite from Mavericks or an earlier MacOS X version?
If your iPhoto'11  came preinstalled with Snowleopard,  and has not yet been upgraded to App Store licences, by upgrading to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1, then you probably have the problem, that the conversion of the licence for boxed, preinstalled iLife apps is not yet well supported in Yosemite. It should have been done with the upgrade to Mavericks, that you skipped.
If that is the problem, contact the App Store Support using the link given in Niel's post.
Only Apple Support can sort out Apple ID problems for pairing apps with AppleIDs.  You will probably need redeem codes to be able to download the updates.

  • Unable to upgrade iPhoto to 9.6

After upgrading OS to Yosemite, iPhoto has a cross through it and when clicked on sends you to the app store to upgrade to 9.6. When I requested the upgrade the state shows waiting in the purchases section of app store and on the iPhoto app store page a frayed out install button. Any ideas?????

Look in the launch Pad - does it show that iphoto is being installed?  --  if so cancel it, trash the iphoto application (wait until yo have everything sorted out to empty the trash) and install again

  • I upgrade to OS 10.10.2 and unable to upgrade iPhoto.

I have upgrade to Yosemite and iPhoto requires upgrade.  In App Store - "purchases" - shows waiting but nothing happening.  In app store I see the iPhoto but the install button will not work. The app may be associated with an old Apple ID.  How do I upgrade to a compatible version?

but when I go to the App Store and bring up iPhoto, the install button does not work.
What exactly happens, when you click the "Install" button? Is there an error message?
Are you on the main, "Featured" tab of the App Store?  And signed in with your Apple ID from the Store menu?
Which version of Yosemite are you using? Could there be any problem with your Network? Do you have enough free storage?

  • I am unable to upgrade iphoto 8.12 to access photo streaming.  It gives an error message when I try to update

Icloud shows photo stream not available since it states it needs Iphoto update required
I go to Learn More next to the message
It brings me to : Support/apple.com/kb/ht4906  iPhoto and Aperture: using Photo stream
"IF YOU ARE USING AND EARLIER VERSION OF IPHOTO 9"
There is a link to Mac App Store for update
It brings me to iphoto:  Are you sure you want to subscribe to this photo feed?  I hit Subscribe
    A popup comes up:
There is a problem with the subscription
Request to the server Macappstore://showUpdatespage failed.
I hit Ok (my only choice)
    And I am at iphoto.
    What is the fix?
    I have spent many hours.

If you have iPhoto 8.x and want to access photostreaming, you need to buy iPhoto 9 from the App store or buy the iLife '11 package. Have you already purchased iPhoto 9 from the App store?

  • Cannot access iphoto after installing Yosemite

  • I recently upgraded to Yosemite on MacBook Pro - unable to open iPhoto and Photo Booth

I recently upgraded to OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 on my MacBook Pro (bought in 2011).  Since the Yosemite upgrade, I have been unable to open both iPhoto and Photo Booth at all.  I have lots of photos and need to access them. Both icons of iPhoto and Photo Booth have a circle with a bar across them, in my dock.
When I click on iPhoto I get the message " In order to open “iPhoto”, you need to update to the latest version. The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac is not compatible with OS X Yosemite. Download the latest version for free from the Mac App Store".  I have tried upgrading iPhoto on the App store but get an error message "The item you've requested is not currently available in the U.S. store" .
Since I cannot even view my photos, I cannot store them elsewhere.  Please, can someone help me resolve this problem!!!
For Photo Booth, when I click on it, it says "You can’t use this version of the application “Photo Booth” with this version of OS X. You have Photo Booth 3.0.3" - gives me no option to upgrade at all.
Would appreciate help for both iPhoto and Photo Booth issues described above, with iPhoto being the most pressing concern. Thank You.

The new app is called Photos. It's icon was added to the Dock. Both, Photos and iPhoto, are located in your Applications folder.
If you need to upgrade iPhoto, follow these instructions prepared by Barney-15E: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-8431

  • I have just installed yosemite and installed iPhoto but when i go to upgrade the iPhoto library and just shuts iPhoto???

i have an iMac  on OS X Yosemite 10.10. i have two equal user accounts and have just upgrade and installed the latest version of iPhoto to use on yosemite, every thing was fine and when i opened iPhoto it said i needed to upgrade the library which it did, great....however when i went into the other account to do the same, it installed the latest version fine and i then got the message to upgrade the library so i clicked yes and it shuts down....why??????

Uninstall... run the Cleaner... Restart your computer... Reinstall
    -http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html (and uninstall)
-using the cleaner after uninstalling and before reinstalling will usually help

  • Unable to update iPhoto after installing yosemite on iMac

recently installed yosemite OS, but cannot open iPhoto without update  and cannot find update.

Its been like this for 2 hours...
It may be hanging, because you are running out of storage - do you have at least 10GB of fee disk space?
Or something is interfering with your connection to the App Store - anti virus software, a firewall. If you have any such software running, restart yor mac in Safe Mode and try reinstalling in this mode:  Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
If that does not help either, ask in the App Store forum.

  • All of my pictures are gone from iPhoto after installing Yosemite..how do i get them back?

I have tried everything to get my pictures back after installing Yosemite on my laptop. Are they gone? Or is there a way to retrieve them?

Define "everything" because if you've tried everything then your last recourse is:
1 - restore your backup copy of your iPhoto Library created just prior to your Yosemite upgrade or
2 - Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Upgraded to yosemite and cannot open iphoto. It says I need to update the latest version and then says it is not available in the Australian store?

Upgraded to yosemite and cannot open iphoto. Its say i need to upgrade the latest version but it is not available in the Australian store?

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • After installing Yosemite, iPhoto won't finish updating.

I just installed Yosemite, then my iPhoto application wouldn't open until I updated the database. So I clicked update and it has been over an hour, but the upgrade can't get beyond 7/8 finished.

I've had the exact same problem. Installing Yosemite on my MacBook Air and the subsequent iPhoto upgrade went smoothing. But on my IMac desktop machine I am experiencing the same issue of the app failing to finish updating the database; I also get about 7/8 and then the spinning beachball. I've restarted the computer and shut it down and then restarted, neither worked. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • I'm thinking of upgrading from 10.6.8 Snow Leopard to OS X Yosemite. Does anyone know of any problems associated with this? What are the implications / consequences of installing Yosemite? Does it effect functionality of v10.6.8 software or hardware?

I'm thinking of upgrading from v10.6.8 Snow Leopard to OS X Yosemite. I know, I'm years behind, but it has become a necessity. My Mac is becoming slow and is incompatible with many softwares and websites. Does anyone know of any problems associated with this upgrade? What are the implications and/or consequences of installing Yosemite? Does it effect functionality of v10.6.8 software or hardware? Are there any precautions I should take before the installation? I have read some posts about Macs slowing right down after installing Yosemite. Any insights and information (in layman's terms please!) would be very useful. Thanks.

Huge thanks for your response Michel. I apologise for the delay in getting back to you. I have done as you suggested, the details are pasted below. Clearly there are some applications I need to remove and no doubt my HD could do with a 'spring clean'. My Mac 'Safe Booted' when I turned it on this morning.
I use many different softwares, some web-based. The decision to upgrade to OSX Yosemite is because I was unable to attend a Webinar this week using GoToMeeting downloadable software. GoToMeeting have upgraded their system and my OS is no longer supported. Other websites like VImeo no longer support my version of Safari. I tend to use Chrome if Safari isn't compatible.
    Problem description:
I'm thinking of upgrading from v10.6.8 Snow Leopard to OS X Yosemite. However I have noticed that my MacBook Pro becoming ‘slow’ over the last 3 weeks and therefore might have some issues that need to be resolved before I even consider installing OSX Yosemite. Over the last week my Mac has Safe Booted on three occasions, so clearly there’s a ‘glitch’ occurring.
