By Itouch in Cyprus - no Itune store = no software upgrades

I just bought the Itouch 16GB in Cyprus from retailer. Only after connecting it I discovered that since I live there I cannot use Istore and since I cannot create an Istore account (not liste in countries), I cannot even get upgrades, buy software etc.
1- Apple should make it clear on the package/box that if you live in such countries you will not be able to get istore and upgrades etc. I feel I have been misled into buying something I cannot enjoy fully to say the least.
2- Although I understand some copyright issues may prevent Apple from offering the Istore service in some countries (Cyprus is a full member of the European Union which has adopted some of the strictest copyright laws. Why is Cyprus left out? Probably too small a country to make it worth their while..!), I cannot understand why I should be prevented from getting the purchased upgrades and application for the Itouch. A web purchase should be available to customers who cannot have an istore account.
All in all, this seems to me a very unfriendly attitude towards customers. Apple has been complaining about Mircosofts hegemony, however, such an issue I never experienced with Microsoft software.
Instead of enjoying a great device, the ipod really is a great device, i am not frustrated and upset and will probably not purchase another apple product. Way to go Apple, it seems you don't need to retain customers...

I sympathise with you entirely, although this is not the place to make such noises: this is a user forum and few (if any) Apple personnel come here.
You are not the only one to be disappointed with this particular situation. Being aware that the update was only available via the iTMS, I took steps to ensure I would have the newer iPod touch -- the retailer might have been more helpful.
I would suggest that you send Apple feedback couched in strong (yet polite) terms to let them know there is another dissatisfied iPod touch customer.

  • Safari, iTunes Store connection, Software Update won't work

I'm having a strange problem with my iBook...Safari will not load/open, Software Update from the blue apple menu at the top won't work and now I can't access the iTunes Store. I have no problem with my internet connection and Firefox works fine along with Mail. Safari has never worked actually, but the iTunes Store and Software Update are the new issues. I've repaired the permissions over and over, and I have not loaded any third part apps. Anybody have a clue about what the heck is going on here?!??!!!

    HI Martin,
I see you did the 10.4.10 update. Did the problems exist before the update?
Whether they did or not, you have network issues. iTunes/Safari/Mail all require networking preferences and they can become corrupted. You said Safari has never worked... that could be the culprit of all your probs right there. And much as I like Firefox, it has caused too many connections issues to list.
First... before you do anything, back up important files, data/audio/images etc.
Second.. the following are System Preferences that need to be trashed. I know you've tried a few before, but try this anyway. If it works, you will have to reset your Sys Prefs, but that beats a clean install.
Go here: MacintoshHD/Library/Preferences. Locate and trash the following files: com.apple.networkConfig.plist
    com.apple.softwareudpate.plist
    Now.. go here: MacintoshHD/Users/Home/Library/Preferences. In the Preferences folder locate these files;
    com.apple.safari.plist users
    com.apple.itunes.plist users
    com.apple.internetconfig.plist
    com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
    com.apple.internetconnect.plist
    com.apple.recentitems.plist
    com.apple.safari.plist
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Also, if you don't have a good disk cache cleaner... get Onyx. It's FREE and it works like a charm. Run the Maintenance and Cleaning Scripts once a week to avoid problems such as you are experiencing. Download and intall Onyx per the instructions. Only takes a few minutes...
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/onyx.html
Have you ran Disk Utility from your system restore disk to check for errors on the disk? You need to verify the disk is OK. If you need help with that, just post back..... I really hope something helps for you.
If all the above fails, at this point you might consider doing a complete Erase and Reinstall from your system restore disk(s).

    Check for hardware issues
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • Itouch 4 not accessing itunes store

For the past month or more I have been unable to gain access to the itunes store from my itouch 4, it just stays on the loading page.  I am able to access the store from my pc, and then sync with my itouch, but this is rather inconvenient.  I also tried doing a reset to the original settings, but this has also failed.  Very confused.

Are you having this problem trying to get into the site as an Admin or with another credential? Or are you having this problem when trying to access as an anonymous visitor? Which site are you referring to?

My iphone, ipad and itouch are not able to get into itunes store.  It says cannot connect to itunes store.

This started happening when I had to change my apple user id to an email address.  This is what has been causing problems with others.  I called apple tech support & received help fixing it before, but it didn't permanently correct the problems.  I had to go through all these steps that took over 45 minutes.  Can't remember the steps so  I will be on the phone with them again to try & resolve

  • Can't access iTunes store after iOS upgrade

I have an iPhone 4.  Just upgraged the iOS to 6.0.1.  I can no longer connect to the iTunes Store on the phone.  I receive a message that I need an internet connection to get to the iTunes store.  I never had this problem before the upgrade.  Is anyone else having this problem and does anyone know how to address it?  Thanks.

Well, first I'd ask if you have confirmed that Internet is in fact working on the phone? Do you have WiFi enabled and can you connect to the Internet with other apps on the phone?

  • Cannot connect to iTunes store after software restore

    Hello, all,
Last week I took my iMac in to the Apple Store to have its internal hard drive replaced. After retrieving the computer, I did a restore off of my Time Machine backup. The restore went smoothly...except that I now cannot do iCloud-related things, particularly iTunes.
--When I launch iTunes, I get a series of error dialogues, advising that the computer does not recognize various certificates (an example would be "buy.itunes.apple.com"); each of these errors advise me that my personal information could be at risk.
--The iTunes Store storefront is blank, though in the title bar I do see my account name.
--When I navigate to iCloud in my browser, Safari informs me that it cannot recognize the iCloud certificate.
--Attempting to sync my iPhone via cable connection, iTunes advises me that the computer is not authorized to share applications downloaded by [my iPhone]. Clicking to authorize yields "We could not complete your iTunes Store request" unknown error dialogues. Other parts of the sync do not complete successfully.
--I cannot connect to the Apple App Store.
Other standard internet functions are working correctly.
I attempted to log out and log back in to iCloud, but logging out failed. "Could not log out of your account at this time." Prior to getting that error, the OS asked me if I wanted local copies of my iCloud [contacts, calendars, notes] kept on my computer. I indicated that, no, I didn't want local copies...despite not logging off successfully all my iCloud information is still gone from the computer.
All content is, however, intact on my iPhone. iPhoto appears to be working fine, on brief inspection, and I have successfully downloaded images off of my iPhone (via cable).
Looking for guidance; is there a plist file I should delete, for example?
    System information:
    --Early 2008 iMac
    --OS X 10.8.3
    --iTunes 11.0.4
--iTunes library hosted on an external HDD
Thanks for any help you can provide!

OK, I've worked it out with the Apple support team, and it was a real doozie. Don't know if anyone else has ever encountered this, but none of the people I spoke with had ever seen it (level 1 support, level 2 support, plus whoever it would be that advises level 2). It was not the authentication problem.
Somehow or other, the central certificates that are part of the OS that recognize Apple services became invalid, or at least the system THOUGHT they were invalid. With the guidance of Apple support, I examined the system certificates via Keychain Access, identified those that were marked invalid, and set them to "always trust." That still didn't work. We removed variuos plists and configurations, hoping that reboots would cause these files to be recreated new...that didn't work.
No Apple services worked: not iCloud, not iTunes, not App Store, not even the remote access program that Apple support had me download to enable screen sharing. All of them gave some version of "cannot verify the identity of the server [something].apple.com.
In the end I had to wipe everything clean and reinstall again from a Time Machine backup. At the suggestion of Apple support, I did not use the most recent backup, but rather one that predated the initial issue that brought about the HDD replacement; it was about a week old. Except for a couple of files that rolled back to earlier versions, everything now works.
Don't know if this had anything to do with anything, but here are some minor things that I noticed:
    (1) My Time Machine backups were all for OS X 10.8.4. The Apple Store team that installed my new HDD installed 10.8.3. The mechanism for importing user accounts from external sources (such as my Time Machine backup) indicated a copy, not necessarily a recovery. I would believe it if you told me that there were changes to security settings between 10.8.3 and 10.8.4
    (2) There were two different mechanisms I used in the two different restores. As I mentioned above, when I did my initial restore it may have been just an import of user accounts and applications -- this was part of the first-time launch of the freshly-installed 10.8.3 OS, the part we've probably all seen where we're invited to do just that. The second time, however, was via the Recovery Partition: that tool is much more direct and offers more options. For one, it recognized all of the different versions of my system in my Time Machine backup, and gave me these options with date and OS listed. This option was not available via the first method.
So, given that no one at Apple seemed to know how this happened, it may very well be that no one reading this may ever see this happen to them. But the lesson I've taken from this is to utilize the Recovery Partition rather than the import function.

  • Why can NOT my apple TV connect to itune store after I upgraded it to ios 5.1(5201)?

I am in Singapore, and own this apple tv for a few days and everything were alway ok.
Today, I upgraded the ios to version  5.1(5201). After the upgrade process was done, the apple tv can not login to itune store.
I am a software engineer. I confirm that the network setting are fine and the username and password are correct,  so I doubt it is server's problem.
Even when I "reset all setting", I can not activate my Apple TV.
Even more, I try to click "update software", and it said "it is unsuccessful ...". I remembered that it should inform me "the version is newest" before I  "reset all setting".
So, I doubt it is because before the server serving Singapore has some problem now.
However, now I can not choose location to US or others, because after I upgraded, the location selection box is empty.
    So, I have no idea.........

I check the internet connection status of my Apple TV, and got the result as
    192.168.2.101     118.214.190.18     TCP     www     Accepted

, where 192.168.2.101 is my Apple TV's ip.
And I also set up a DNS server and check which domains Apple TV queries, and found that
        ax.init.itunes.apple.com(118.214.190.17 118.214.190.18 118.214.191.54 118.214.191.77 all in Singapore)

        phobos.apple.com(17.154.66.38)
        mesu.apple.com(118.214.190.152)
And ip of ax.init.itunes.apple.com are all in Singapore.
I am doubt the iOS 6.0 (TV software 5.1(5201) ) has not been deploy to Singapore. Last time, I select location as US, so it informed me to update to iOS 6.0.

  • Can't access iTunes Store since Leopard upgrade!

I upgraded my G4 Powerbook to Leopard and now I can't get into the iTunes Store. I repaired my keychain, I don't have firewall or accelerator software, I didn't change anything except my OS. There is no problem with my ISP (I checked with another G4 running Tiger). When I try to get into the Store, the dialog bar will just keep running, saying that it is accessing the iTunes Store, but no go, and I don't get any error message.
    So... Any advice?

    Hi Timmy Y,
Can you explain further please ("directly connected")? I have EXACTLY the same problem, having this week bought a new MacBook, migrated everything over from my old 17" iMac, and found that everything works perfectly on the (new) wireless network except 1) downloading dotMac mail through Entourage, and 2) accessing my iTunes account.
I can browse music in the iTunes store but when I try to log in to my account to either buy, or authorize my new computer, I get the "Accessing iTunes Store..." message forever.
    Any tips greatly received!
    Thanks
    Jamie

  • IPad & iPhone only play video from iTunes store after iOS7 upgrade

I just noticed that my iPad and iPhone can only play content from the iTunes store now that I have upgraded them to iOS7.  They can not even play videos that my iPhone recorded before the upgraded.  They are also not able to play videos that I RIPPED from DVD's using Handbrake.    It had no problem playing any of this content before upgrading.  I can still play the videos though iTunes just fine.  And my old iPhone that is still on iOS6 plays the videos just fine. Does anyone know of a work around to get iOS seven devices to play video that is not from the iTunes store?

Thanks tried that as well as a full restore of the iPhone.  This seems to be by design.  ITunes will not even sync the files to the iOS7 devices now.  Says the files will not be copied because they can not be played, but my iOS6 devices can sync them and play them.

  • ITunes store error after upgrading to Mavericks

Something is wrong with the "Music", "Movies", "App Store" Tabs.
What I did was to use the links at the bottom of the page under the categories "Explore".

  • HT201272 There are purchased items that are no longer showing in the iTunes store because I upgraded to iTunes Plus format.  What can I do? My hard drive crashed and lost a great deal of my music and it's not showing in iCloud.

What can I do to see items that I have purchased but upgraded to iTunes Plus? They are not showing in my iCloud as purchased, but I still can see the original protected versions from old backups. The original was downloaded with my iMac but the computers hard drive has burned out and needs to be replaced.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

Thanks for the reply although I'm not too happy to hear it.  What's awesome about the cloud is no longer having to keep up with any physical media.  The promise of that is realized with everything else (my work, music, books) besides movies and TV.
I wonder how Google Play will handle movies/tv that becomes unavailable?  Google Play does allow you to download media in some circumstances (on Android and iOS) but is generally intended  for streaming.  Maybe relying on a physical copy as I do with iTunes should make me more comfortable with it and not less.
I will come back to mark your reply as the solution as it becomes clear there is not a contrary position.  Thank you.
