By mistake I ran Windows Backup/Restore with SAP services on  URGENT

Dear all
What I did by mistake I ran Windows Backup/Restore with SAP services on (I stopped win sql services and SAP instance).
After restore under same circumstances I could not start istance (actually it started but after connect with saplogon dispetcher stopped).
When trying to restore 2nd time(with deleted AFGDATA1,AFGDATA2, AFGDATA3 , AFGLOG and usr under c:\ I realized I can not delete C:/usr directory (with subdrectories) as SAP services were locking some files. (i stopped services and deleted those files I have them in rcycle bin),
Can I somehow restore the system

Hello Tina,
- what is the status of SAP service? can you start it? If not, what is written in application event log?
- If service can be started, are you able to start SAP system? If not, what is written in sapstartsrv.log, dev_disp and dev_w0, could you put output of them?
- which files exactly have you deleted?
I afraid that the locked files were not backup and they will not be restored in this case. Further steps depend on what the files you have deleted.

The Volume Shadow Copy service initially was running under the context of System, so we thought that ‘System’ doesn’t have permissions to access network shares.
When the Volume Shadow Copy service was running under the context of System, this was the error logged:
“failed with following error code '0x8078014B' (There was a failure in creating a directory on the backup storage location.).”
Which is likely due to not having permissions to write to the network location.
This is a scheduled backup trying to write to a network location, so we changes the service to run under the context of an account that does have permissions to write to the network share.
Then the error changed to this:

We aren’t really seeing anything that gives any hint on what the issue is.
    Any ideas?  Thanks in advance!

We are trying to back up folders/files from 2 local drives (C: & D:), both of which have only 10% space used, and 100 GB free.
We are attempting to back the files up to a Remote Shared File (and there is 100+ GB free space out there).
If we try another network location, we receive the exact same error.

  • Question: DB2 V8.2.2 and speed of backups/restore with TSM

    Hello,
our database is growing and our backups/restore takes longer and longer. We would like to now, if there is an existing IBM tool, with which we could exactly see where our bottleneck is. At the moment we are backing up with four sessions, a 1,7 terabyte database, we are using automatic buffer and parallelism, we have a four CPU (power 5, 1.9GHz) AIX server. The backup takes nine hours. We have identified five components which influense the backup time. CPU-Speed, SAN, Network, TSM and Sessions.
    Regards,
    Alexander

    Hello Alexander,
just to give you my five cents.
I would recommend too (like Markus Döhr): Test the whole infrastructure for optimizing backup performance.
You have to keep in mind performance of SAN, Server (HBAs, bandwidth of system busses) and network. I would recommend for the network testing, a tool like netperf (originally from HP, but available for all SAP OSs - compiler necessary) to measure your network environment. You should figure out how much bandwidth one session could achieve. May be you should find out first which network buffer sizes TSM uses, to use the same buffers in the tests. For our environment it showed that we need 4 network sessions to utilize a 1GBit LAN completely. You should also keep in mind, that the system should have enough resources to handle the additional I/Os due to the backup without influencing the production to much.
Instead of using big buffers like Eric recommends, I recommend to use the auto tuning of DB2 backup, which comes with one of the V8 Fixpaks (I think with V8.2 (FP7)). In our test it speeds up the backup a lot. Just run the backup with the command:
db2 backup db SID online use tsm open 4 sessions
DB2 will automatically tune the backup to achieve best possible performance.
In our environment we run a 2.8TB Backup with a backup rate of around 600GB/h which consumes only 12,5% of the possible I/O bandwidth. We assume that this should be no problem even when few of our HBAs have problems (this happens not only in theory - already two times this year). We're using Legato Networker and running a 10GB ethernet exclusively for backup. We already saved the database within 2 hours 16 minutes; if necessary we could do even faster. I think the limit is at the moment is somewhere around 1.8TB/h, But this is neither necessary nor it makes sense (because this would have an impact on our production).
    Best regards

  • Lync Backup/Restore with SQL backup

Is it possible to backup and restore the XDS database (Lync topology and configuration information) using SQL database tools?  Technet is very confusing, it describes in great detail how to use cmdletts to export the configuration then back it up with
te regular backups.  But then at link for Backup - restore best practices  it states "The simplest and most commonly used backup type and rotation schedule is a full, nightly backup of the entire SQL Server database. Then, if restoration is necessary,
the restoration process requires only one backup and no more than a day’s data should be lost."
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh202184.aspx
Best Practices for Backup and Restoration
To facilitate your back up and restoration process, apply the following best practices when you back up or restore your data:
Perform regular backups at appropriate intervals. The simplest and most commonly used backup type and rotation schedule is a full, nightly backup of the entire SQL Server database. Then, if restoration is necessary, the restoration process requires only
one backup and no more than a day’s data should be lost.
If you use cmdlets or the Lync Server Control Panel to make configuration changes, use the
Export-CsConfiguration cmdlet to take a snapshot backup of the topology configuration file (Xds.mdf) after you make the changes so that you won't lose the changes if you need to restore your databases.
Ensure that the shared folder you plan to use for backing up Lync Server 2010 has sufficient disk space to hold all the backed up data.
Schedule backups when Lync Server usage typically is low to improve server performance and the user experience.
Ensure that the location where you back up data is secure.
Keep the backup files where they are available in case you need to restore the data.
Plan for and schedule periodic testing of the restoration processes supported by your organization.
Validate your backup and restoration processes in advance to ensure that they work as expected.

  • Issue with shared services - Need Urgent Help please!!

    Hello Experts
One of my customer has installed a new instance of oracle and copied all the schemas and data over to the new instance.
Now when they bring up shared services, have lost all our provisioning. None of the projects are recognized by shared serices and gets the following error when we try to bring up a user
'xxxxx' is not a recognized Shared Services project. Please contact your adminstrator
Is there something we need to do to restore Shared Services to its original state?
    Thanks in advance.

    Edited by: 637223 on Jan 20, 2009 2:19 AM

    hi,
I doubt that "creating a new instance of oracle and copied all the schemas and data over to the new instance" will register the project with shared service and thats why giving error. Because when you install shared service, it asks you about the database name (oracle in your case) to register with. So even if you overwrite that database by new instance it gives error.
Have you tried the configuration utilty ? Over there you can provide the new database instanse as your database and configure your shared service. Remember that you need to do a complete configuration of shared service , analytic administration services and analytic services. After configuring, Restart the system.....it should work.
    Hope this helps!

  • Backup Restore With SQL Server 2008 R2 although it succeeded with SQL Server 2008

    Dears;
I have a Full backup of some DB of around 417 GB within SQL Server 2008 R2 , and when I tried to restore it , i get  stuck several times with the error below :
    Restore failed for Server   (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended)
A system assertion check has failed. Check the SQL Server error log for details. Typically, an assertion failure is caused by a software bug or data corruption. To check for database corruption, consider
running DBCC CHECKDB. If you agreed to send dumps to Microsoft during setup, a mini dump will be sent to Microsoft. An update might be available from Microsoft in the latest Service Pack or in a QFE from Technical
    Although I have restored
successfully other several Full+ Deferential backups for the same DB while it was in SQL Server 2008 not 2008 R2.
And so I have rounded all different possible assumptions for such common know error by Microsoft for SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008 but
    no way as next:
    1-
I have attempted to restore it within 2 environments clustered and non-clustered of SQL Server 2008 R2.
    2-
I have attempted to restore verify it and it was so fine .
    3-
I have attempted to restore it using Continue_after_error ,no_checksum but no way.
    4-
I have attempted to move Backup file to another Storage but no way.
    5-
I have scheduled jobs to DBCC
Checkdb the live DB and it wasn’t any errors since long time right now
    6-
I have also DBCC check all master +msdb+model+Tempdb ,and they are so fine
    7-
I have also checked all I/O subsystem of SAN and Network controllers , but they are fine evidenced much more by my trial on 2 different environments.
    8-
I have also checked Memory and it is so fine all the time since I have 128 GB memory and I control it also so well.
    For DB Design +Structure :
It has 20 Files containing tables partitioned horizontal +Vertically
(Schema Partitioning +File Stream partitioning ) through these 20 files.
I have Data compression of the required tables only.
I have one table of more than 300 GB alone which is partitioned as mentioned above.
I have implemented Read Committed Snapshot isolation level using row versioning integrated so well with File stream technology since it is a new feature of SQL 2008 R2.
DB is in simple recovery model for garbage collection of all file stream data as a result of much Delete /update in images themselves.
So any one has any idea about such case..How to solve it…?

  • Oracle 9i Backup/Restore with Data Guard Issues

    Greetings,
I am currently using Oracle 9i Data Guard to have a Primary/Standby model.
The current implementation compares the backup piece id from the backed up image (taken from the Primary) with the backup piece id on the Standby db. If the number are not equal then the restore will fail.
1- Is this the best implementation for restoring on a standby?
2- Would it be better to give a permitted gap range between the backup piece ids between the two databases? and if so what would be an acceptable range?
3- In case the gap range discussed in #2 above is allowed, when the Standby is started as primary and the primary set to be standby, would the Data Guard automatically tries to retrieve all the missing archive/redo log files from the primary db?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I am not sure I am following you here. Are you trying to create a physical standby, by using a backup taken from the primary?
If this is what you're trying to do, you can take any hot backup from the primary and use it to sync the standby with your primary. The older the backup you're using to create the standby, the more archive logs you'll need to get synchronized.
As long as you have all the archive logs needed in the archive_log_dest, data guard will automatically retrieve all the missing logs, and apply them on the standby. Again, only if they are available on the primary.
Not sure If this is what you were asking...
    Idan.

  • Running LabVIEW 7.1 on Windows 2003 Server with Terminal Services

We are setting up a newtork based solution with LabView. I have looked for documentation on installing LV 7.1 on a Windows 2003 server to run the applications and then have destkops connect to it. Can this be done with a Terminal Services Access solution? Another words, if we were to purchase the LV Volume License Manager, can you install LV 7.1 onto a Windows 2003 server and run the application through TS across a 1GB backbone from the desktop, which makes the server do all the processing?

Sorry for the delay. I'm surprised Philip didn't get back to us... Phil
are you there? Based on his comments, I think he misunderstands your
    situation (no offense Phil).
You and I are both talking about the same thing. You basically want a
terminal server license. NI will not provide it. They told me (over the
phone) to get a multi-seat license (MSL). IMO, that's unacceptable. I
expect a LV license taylored specifically for thin client networks. A
multi-seat license is for -->installing<-- on multiple machines. It
conforms to a totally different set of rules. One big one, an MSL assumes
that you intend to run LV locally to interact with DAQ hardware. Since
this won't be done with the thin client, you shouldn't have to pay for it.

Since you are talking about a Microsoft operating system, I would say this
cannot be done without some additional/costly junk installed.
Here's another option. If the people you're supporting don't have any
platform dependent things like ActiveX in their LV applications, you
should consider using a Linux-based terminal server. I know for a fact it
    works.
I've assisted in setting up a network like this before:
    * One Linux terminal server with LabVIEW for Linux (Full Dev)
    * One WinXP box on the network with LabVIEW for Win (Prof Dev)
    * 5 cheap thin clients
They developed LabVIEW source code on the thin clients and then compiled
packages on the WinXP box for distribution to their customers. The WinXP
was only used for compiles so they just hopped on when necessary. The
eventual plan is for the thin clients to simply open a RemoteDesktop
(using RDP) terminal session and do the compiles from there. I'm not sure
how to do that yet... on the Windows side.

Phil must have thought you needed a LV application to access the front
panel controls of another LV application running on a remote machine. The
VI server is handy in that area but useless in your case.
Hey, you wanna hear about cheap network infrastructure? We bought our
thin client boxes for $15 each! Go to ltsp.org if you want more info on

  • Problem with SAP service not starting

    Hi
The service SAP<sid>_00 service in services.msc is  not running and when i try to start it, it is throwing message like <b>"Some services stop automatically when they have no work to do"</b>. The startup type is automatic. What shall i do to start this service. The SAP system as a result not getting listed in SAP MMC.
Please advise me in this regard
    Thanks,
    Ganesh N

it will check the existence of $(DIR_INSTANCE)\work and will change its current working directory to this directory.
the service is started using a Startprofile.
If $(DIR_INSTANCE) is not explicitly is set in the Startprofile it defaults to
    saplocalhost\saploc\$(SAPSYSTEMNAME)\$(INSTANCE_NAME).
saplocalhost\saploc is translated to the directory structure if a share saploc exists on the local computer.
the share saploc was recreated (in other words you create a share named SAPLOC pointing to a different directory than <sapdrive>:\usr\sap) you will get this error message.
$(xxx) are possible profile parameters in start and instance profiles.
    DIR_INSTANCE is normally not set
SAPSYSTEMNAME and INSTANCE_NAME are set in any case.
    Peter
SAPLOC can only exist once on an application server.
    regards

  • Dell DataSafe vs Windows 7 Backup & restore

I bought a Dell I620. I made 3 disks using Dell's DataSafe program. I used DVD+R disks for that. I'm hearing that DVD
disks are not that reliable. I plan eventually to get a Ext HD, because they have come down a lot in cost. Until then, what
type of disks should I use for backups?
I'm wondering too, is it better to use the Dell DataSafe program, or Windows Backup & Restore. In Windows Backup & Restore, after making the system repair disk, there are two choices: Image and Full Backup. Which is better and is there
a way to estimate the size of the file that I have to store on disks.

DVD disc are not that reliable for a few reasons. One of them is that the surface that the data is burned into is a bio matter and can degrade over time. Two scratches can screw event he best dvd up. Three your computer could have possible burned the disc wrong and you will never know it untill you need them. With all that said you should be good in the 8-9 year mark on dvd's. If you still worried an external HDD ( or hard drive) is a good way to go as it thumb drive. When backing your stuff up redundancy is key, especially when it comes to family photo's and tax returns. Trust me the last thing you want to do is pay GeekSquad a 100 bucks for a data recovery. I would suggest biting the bullet and buy 2 1tb external drives and a package of dvd's. Back everything up to one drive then copy and past over to the next drive. Any tax returns and pictures you cant live with out burn to the dvd's as well. Keep this data in seperate locations ie away from your computer, safety deposit box, someone else house ect. the last thing you want to do is have a house fire and loose your stuff anyway.
    as far as part two............
I personaly dont use any of that. Once I have my recovery disc made any data i need to save i keep on externals. If my computer craps the bed i can just reload it if i cant fix it. ........... reloading is cheaper and easier then paying geeksquad 200 bucks for an automated virus removal.
Hope this helps and sorry if it was hard to read.

  • Erase and sync issues (backup/restore)

    Hello.
I have an issue with the backup/restore with my iPhone.
Sometimes, it is difficult to find an answer that fits your problem exactly on the forum!  Lots of good stuff though!
This post will be little longer than normal, but I need to get all the facts on the table.
I'll try to keep this brief.  Please hear me out!
    From another post ...
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12273122
    Kwopau stated ...
if you do a restore, you only have 2 options, Restore as new, meaning nothing will go on it
and you will just have to start fresh and no contacts will go in there.
The other option is "Restore from Back up _______" it will completely restore your phone
from your last back up and everything will be on there.
    End of quote ...
    Here is my situation.
    I have a 3g 16GB iPhone.
I am still running IOS 3 (not IOS 4).
I do not use sync.  I  manually manage the music and books with iTunes.
    I have an HP laptop.
A while ago, I had to completely rebuild the computer.
The computer has a new computer and user name (I don't know if this matters in iTune/iPhone matchup)?
I have not been able to connect the iPhone since then.
    Let me rephrase that.
I can connect with iTunes.  I can see all that is on the iPhone.
When I try to add or delete music or books on the iPhone with iTunes or set the manually manage check box, I get the following message ...
The iPhone "myname's iPhone" is synced with another iTunes library.
Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with the this iTunes library.
Most commands appear to be grayed  out,  I can't add or delete anything.
I do not have anything in current  iTunes library at the moment.
    My fear is this.
If I do the erase and sync as suggested  (iPhone message above) to the iPhone and then use the new iTunes library,  will I be able to use the backup (I just created) to restore to the iPhone that I just reset?
If so, will it have contacts and all the other stuff?
I can afford to lose the music and books, and perhaps the apps on the iPhone.
I cannot afford to lose my contact list.
I need to find another way to backup the contact list, Outlook, etc?
If there other posts relative to this, please point me to them.
I am afraid to pull the trigger for fear that iTunes will not recognize the iPhone after the erase and sync and then not allow me to restore.
Perhaps someone can put my mind at ease and convince me that it will all be good if I proceed!
Thanks for you time and help in this matter ...
    Bob

Do you know how to transfer purchases? Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes. Click on the iPad nema on the left side of the iTunes window to select it. Then go to File>Transfer Purchases. That should put all of your purchased iPad content into the iTunes library on the PC.
Here are instructions in a very short, easy to follow article.
Transfer iTunes Library to a new computer
This discussion will be helpful to show you how to make the PC work wTunes from the iPad.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3305461
This is the discussion from which I borrowed the some of the text in my post from the discussion above.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
What puzzles me is that if you had updated with the PC, I would have thought that you would have backed up and synced with that PC as well, but read the articles and instructions and post back with questions.
You can email the pdf files to the iPad, or use iOS file sharing, and open and save them in iBooks or another pdf reader app, but start with getting your stuff onto the PC.

  • W2k8R2 Windows Backup - BMR on different disk configuration - How to move one parition of three parition to an other raid-disk?

    Hello folks,
I need your help in following situation.
    My source-system has 1 RAID5 (600GB) over 5 HDDs. On the RAID-Disk are one primary partition (250GB) and 1 extended partitions (350GB).
Because the hardware is out of support, I will migrate it to new hardware-server. I must minimized the downtime and the administrative effort. So I can't reinstall a new windows-installation, because 4 different software-licences are binding on SID. Additional
a DFS-R is configured, so I need some hours to reconfigure it.
The new destination-system has one RAID1 (300GB) that I will use it for windows-system, and one RAID 6 (1TB) that is planed for data.
I has make a full backup (with all Critical) by using Windows Server Backup to a NAS storage. Than I has boot my destination system from Windows Server 2008 R2 media, and will make a recover. All Hard Disk is detected, after I install the storage-drivers. When
I confirm the last step in windows-server-backup, windows-backup stop with error "Not enough space on harddisk 0"
How can I move the extended partition to harddisk 1 (RAID6) durring BMR??? I cann't exclude the volume in backup-procedure, because the DFS-R is installed with some share on this disk.
    Has anyone a idea?
    Best regards

    Hi,
I'm afraid we will not get it resolved. BMR will restore the partition information so you need at least a 600GB disk/RAID to restore both Drive C and D - it will create partitions on disk/RAID but cannot be separated restore to different disks/RAIDs.
How about get another 300GB disk and change your system RAID from RAID1 to RAID5. (Or change RAID1 to RAID0 but of course you will lose fault tolerance ability).

  • Reaching free space with SAP DB on Windows

    Hi!
I am using SOLMAN with SAP DB on Windows and (funnily enough) reaching the free space on my computer (no arching mode is activated).
Can some one tell me how to proceed in this case (can I put away the log files or the data files that are not being used). How can I extend the free space without much effort?
Is there some useful transactions (like db02 in oracle) to manage the SAP DB?
    Thank you!
    regards

    Hello Axel,
    -> You wrote:
"can I put away the log files or the data files that are not being used"
What do you mean by that?
-> If you think that you oversize the data & log area during the creation of the database, please let me know the configuration of the data & log volume in the database, provide the output of the command 'param_getvolsall'. What is the filling of the data & log area? What is the version of your database?
-> Please review the SAP note: 869267 FAQ: MaxDB LOG area
< You will find the answer on the questions
"25. What should I bear in mind if the log area is saved to files?"
"26. How do I archive the log backup files generated?"
        and more ... >
-> As of 7.6 version you could use 'db_deletevolume' command, you could find details in MAXDB library to delete the datavolume for the reducing size of the dataarea, if the size of the data area was oversized.
To reduce size of the log area < or shrink the log area > and reduce the size of the data area in the earlier releases of the database => use the Homogeneous system copy with MaxDB using backup/restore procedure < SAP Note No. 129352 >.
