Bypass automatic proxy configuration for some websites?

Here's my problem, perhaps someone can help:
I occassionally need to use my university's proxy server to access library materials, etc., through my off-campus connection. So I entered the .pac file (a url) in the Automatic Proxy Configuration box of System Preferences > Network. All well and good.
The problem is, when I want to get more weather details from the weather widget for example, visiting a site like Accuweather.com throws up the login page for my proxy server. Having to enter my university id and password whenever I want to check the weather is guaranteed to drive me bananas.
So is there any way to keep sites like Accuweather.com from demanding I log into my proxy server when there's no reason to, while still keeping my auto proxy configuration in place for when I really need to use it? Anything I can do in Safari about this?
The other option seems to be to reserve one browser, configured with my university proxy, just for doing library research, etc., and another as a general surfing browser. I'd be happy to make Safari do general duty, and configure Camino to use the proxy server, but I can't seem to make this division work, since both use whatever's listed in Network Prefs. I can't tell one to use the proxy and the other not to, they're both controlled by this global pref.
I think I might be able to specify the proxy locally in Firefox, and leave Safari w/o the proxy...But I much prefer the look and feel of Camino...
Any ideas on how to get around this with Safari, or a combo of Safari and Camino?

Okay, I found the "Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains" box right under my nose, in Network Prefs. It's explained in this kbase document,

However, using the accuweather.com example, I tried entering the domain name and it still calls up the login in Safari. I even tried looking up the site's IP address and entering that in different forms:
wwwa.accuweather.com
207.242.93.24
207.242.93.*
Still no luck, it calls up the proxy server...

It seems that the Automatic Proxy Configuration URL doesn't work, I use the command netstat -a, can't see the connection to proxy server, but manual proxy is ok, and I tested on some others computers, most of these computers can work normally with Automatic Proxy Configuration URL.
For the computer can't work normally with Automatic Proxy Configuration URL, I did below actions
1.Clear the cache
2.update the version of firefox
3.reinstall the firefox
4.use the safemode to run firefox
but unfortunately, still doesn't work.

Automatic Proxy Configuration keeps getting disabled for Manual Proxy Configuration

When ever I launch Firefox 3.6.13, the connection settings get reset to Manual Proxy Configuration. I switch the connection settings to automatic proxy configuration and all works fine. Upon closing and re-launching Firefox the Connection Setting is set back to manual proxy configuration.

What would be the command to uncheck Automatic Proxy Configuration?

Looking for a script to uncheck the Automatic Proxy Configuration field so I don't have to touch every mac individually.
I tried networksetup -setsocksfirewallproxystate Ethernet off which ran successfully but doesn't appear to have done anything.

Dear Alll,
I need some clarification on Automatic posting configuration for GR/IR account. In OBYP, for transaction BNG-Invoiced but not yet delivered we maintain GR/IR clearing account, adjustment account and target account. As per my understanding, adjustment accounts and target accounts are only hit during closing time when GR/IR account has some value and that time it is checked using the transaction F.19 and the amount is posted to adjustment account and target account. Please point out where I'm wrong and provide explanation if I'm loosing on some point

You should make these posting to a cost center then..The only way you can control account postings via PO type is having a account assignement category. You can make this as mandatory filed for this PO type..

The plug-in documentation states, "There are a number of JavaScript helper functions which can be called from the JavaScript function FindProxyForURL. Java Plug-in provides its own implementation of these functions to completely emulate the automatic proxy configuration."
Does the Java Plug-in implement the dnsDomainIs helper function? I ask because the proxy.pac that I use has something like this:

return "DIRECT";
When the Java Plug-in tries to connect to a particular host that is in our intranet (ex. host1.intranet.domain.com) I get a proxy server login prompt. However, if I use:
if ( shExpMatch(host, "*.asco.ashland.com") )
return "DIRECT";
I do NOT get a proxy server login.
Any thoughts?

Safari is extremely finicky about proxies and according to Wikipedia it dates back to older browser versions.

I am also getting this "error". The printer (8500 A910) connected to the web well enough that it went out and supposedly downloaded a new update, but then it was supposed to print a page showing the email address, but did not.
So I go in and try to set up the eprint, and it tells me it cannot connect to the sever and I'll need to enter a proxy address and port number. But my ISP's cable modems do NOT have any static IP address nor do they provide any sort of proxy service. Everything works just fine with "automatic discovery" (DHCP) for every computer in the house. No problems there.
So, since that's the case, of course I cannot look up some proxy address and port number in my web browser because they're all set up for "automatically detect settings".
What's baffling is that the printer connected to something at HP to download the "update", and it went through a process that appeared to be what I'd expect it to do if it was updating its firmware. But it won't connect to whatever it's supposed to connect to to have an email address assigned.
Does HP supply a proxy server? If so, what's its IP address or URL, and what port should a person set the printer to try to use?
UPDATE:
It appears that the HP site must have just been "down" for about six or seven hours while I was trying to get the printer to connect because it now connected and I got an email address asigned without needing to have any "proxy" stuff set up at all. It's a shame that the printer does not simply report "HP Site down - try again later" instead of reporting that you need to use a proxy when that's impossible.
"Now, on to the next problem which is that my emails to the assigned address are all bouncing with a "550 5.7.1 Command rejected" error!

Proxy configuration for 10.1.2 b2b with 10.1.3 ohs

Looking for documentation on configuring outbound proxy for b2b through an OHS instance. I found some docs showing mod_proxy configuration, but the doc also had mod_oc4j configuration instructions. Can anyone explain what functionality mod_oc4j would provide for an outbound https post? We're also concerned that mod_proxy may not send https connections properly. I believe we want to initiate ssl sessions at the b2b server, but not have any ssl authentication until the connection reaches the external endpoint beyond the proxy server. We've been referred to document B25761, but we're still seeking a bit more guidance.

could you please clarify how to setup an SSL client authentification between two trading partners for B2B in reverse proxy configuration (using OHS)?
Are the necessary steps same as those specified in your previous post?
At the present time I have two trading partners communicating with each other using HTTPS + client certificate authentification. So far this setup works pretty well. Now I would like to move one of the trading partners behind a proxy (OHS) in our DMZ but I still want them to authorize against each other using client certificates.
What should I do to make the client certificate authentification work? Is B2B proxy configuration "smart enough" and as such already supports this scenario?

Problem With Logging in for some websites...

there are some korean websites that I used to go
frequently with my PC....
they work with the web browsers I have...
and yet,I cannot log in for some reason...
can somebody help me find out
why it is not logging in or
if somebody knows will u tell me??

Here is another similar problem altho unfortunately not an answer to the first problem.. When I try to open the Palm Inc. website, the various parts of the site seem to overlay earch other. It's as if the page were cut up and dropped onto my screen, with some areas not readable or partially visible, and usually all the blanks to fill in are covered. I have tried to log into their discussion group but when I try to activate my account. I find the Continue button is covered by the site's various tabs. An email to Palm has resulted in no answer yet, but I'm hoping someone here has had a similar problem. This has happened on only one or two other websites and I can't remember which ones.
By the way, I am using the Explorer 5.3 browser which comes with my bellsouth.net email program. Besides the loyalty to Mac, should I switch over to using Safari? I see a number of problems using it, like not being able to log into bank chsecking account websites.

How can I disable automatic spell checking for specific websites?

I'd like to disable automatic spell-checking for specific domains, such as programming-oriented forums. Is there a way to do this in about:config?

You could create a Greasemonkey script to add a spellcheck="false" attribute or create a bookmarklet to add the attribute.

N9 automatic proxy configuration not working

Hi all
While configuring a network connection (wifi or 3G), N9 allows to put a proxy in "automatic mode". I guess this is for use with a PAC file, maybe with WPAD mechanism also.
I tried several ways to use it, through wifi mainly:
- putting "auto mode" without filling up the "address" field : no luck
- filled up the address field with the PAC file http address : no luck
i captured trafic on the DNS servers and next hope router and it is clear that the N9 never make use of any of the parameters. no dns request on wpad.mydomain, no tcp connection to pac server

I seem to have grey as a default colour for some websites, can't read the page. any ideas for curing this please?

When I visit some webpages - example www.thephonebook.bt.com - I cannot read the pages because they are grey and the info fades into the page and is unreadable. Can I change the colour of website pages or is there something else I can do or undo?

Two suggestions.
1 This page contains some 'zap' bookmarklets.

Pressing 'zap' on sites with grey print turns it black.
2 This addon can be used to restyle pages that you use a lot

It's rather technical, but setting up a style rule for this site such as

Firefox 4 freezes for several seconds for some websites

The new Firefox 4 browser seem to have become a nightmare for me; its freezes for about 5-10 seconds while loading some webpages(not all websites).
For example webcosmo.com home page and most other pages.
cricinfo.com pages

Same problem here.
Solved by downloading & installing Adobe Flash "square" for both FF4 (plugin) and MSIE9 (ActiveX).
System: Intel Core i7-860/4GB, Win7 Ulti 64-bit SP1, MSIE 9 64-bit, FF4.

No logs flowing in uio log of UIO Apache Proxy configured for OAAM 11gR2

Hi,
I had configured and tested the UIO proxy and OAAM deployment.
Configured the UIO logging as per documentation.
But the HTTP traffic logs are not flowing in uio.log; infact no logs are flowing in uio.log.
This is very much required for me to write interceptors.
UIO Proxy is configured on Apache Webserver running on Win 2008 R2
Can you please let me know how uio logs are enabled ?
