Bypassing direct IO - installing Oracle 9i on encrypted hard disk

I tried to install Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 on my laptop, for development. Company policy dictates that all laptop hard disks must be encrypted, so I guess I need to bypass direct IO.
So, what parameters must I configure yo bypass all direct IO calls in Oracle 9i?
Cheers,
Joni

Down the Java Runtime from Sun
That might solve it :)
If I recall, Java Runtime is not shipped with XP

  • Installing Oracle Linux on external hard-disk or DVD

    Hi All,
Is it possible to install Oracle Enterprise Linux on external hard-disk or DVD?
I already have Windows 7 and want to install Oracle Enterprise Linux either in dual-boot mode or on external hard-disk/DVD. I want to install Oracle E-Business Suite on Linux.
Can you also let me know the minimum RAM capacity required for running Oracle E-Business Suite R12 on Oracle Enterprise Linux?
Pointers and workarounds are highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Kashif

It's technically possible, but why bother? Since you are asking this question you will very likely run into more trouble with such a setup. In addition, Oracle Enterprise Linux is designed for server hardware and will give you additional trouble if you install it on a desktop or laptop computer.
I would recommend to you to install Oracle Virtualbox and install OEL as a guest OS and run Linux side by side with your Windows system. There is plenty of information for this task on the web. For the latest version and info on Virtualbox see http://www.virtualbox.org/
System and hardware requirements for Oracle e-suite will be a different questions, for which you might find answers here:

  • I can't install Snow leopard on my hard disk which has 10.4.11 on and lots of space.

I can't install Snow leopard on my hard disk which has 10.4.11 on it and lots of space, I run the snow Leopard install disk and it says it cant be installed on my hard disk, which has 160 GB of space.

Which iMac? If it's a G5, the highest OS you can run is Leopard. Are you using the full retail copy of Snow, or a grey, machine specific disc from another computer? If it's the latter, that's the reason.

  • Recently upgraded Mac 24" to Lion (clean install) and now no external hard disks work with Time Machine

Recently upgraded Mac 24" to Lion (clean install) and now no external hard disks work with Time Machine.
installed new internal disk first with fresh 10.7.3 Lion software. Also upgrade ram to 4GB. Work great, super fast.
BUT.... my WD 1TB firewire400 external disks no longer work with the Lion enabled machine now.
FURTHER... I read somewhere that WD is problematic with Lion but Seagate was not... so I went and bought a new 3TB Seagate GoFlex.
When it didnt work properly either, I patiently searched and found a software/firward upgrade and applied.
    I re-partitioned disk to extened/journaled standard, etc.
Then assigned the particition to Time Machine. Drive turned the blue/grey color, so I thought it would work.
But, it has now been in "preparing" mode in Time Machine for HOURS....
What is up Apple? So dissappointed. Ive read these type of problems are notorious with Lion and I wish I never upgraded.
Are you trying to make issues with External disks, to drive people to iCloud?  That trick ont work in me. I will not reward bad behaviour Apple.
Please provide a fix... I wasted hours/days screwing around with this, instead of using the Mac for what its intended!

Solved by Pondini, on another thread I opened...
    Answer:
    Sounds like either:
A directory problem on your internal HD.  Verify your internal HD, and Repair any other volumes being backed-up per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
Something in OSX may be damaged.  You've tried the "combo," so a fresh copy of OSX (that won't disturb anything else) would be worth a try (and you don't need a tech for that).  See Installing the ''combo'' update and/or Reinstalling OSX.

Is it possible to install Lion on the second hard disk on my Mini (2010) Snow Leopard Server, and switch between Lion and Snow Leopard? I like those voices Lion has in speech.

When baltwosaid NO emphatically, that was described as CORRECT ANSWER. Ditto in the caeses of the radically different answers from  Camelotand Matt Clifton
Could it be that CORRECT ANSWER needs better defining by Apple?
That apart, yes, switching might involve rebooting. About the voices, well, I was the other day adding voice to a commentary in a video I was working on. There's only American English accent in SL — Lion I believe has British ones as well.
Why not, I wondered, try to install Lion purely for academic interest, maybe with an SD card (Sandisk Ultra II, 16GB) as Tom Nelson says is possible at http://macs.about.com/od/macoperatingsystems/ss/Perform-A-Clean-Install-Of-Os-X- Lion-On-Your-Mac.htm

  • Installing FF to a new hard disk, how to transfer passwords from the old installation?

I have FF installed to Win2k on a hard disk. I have installed Win7 on a new hard disk and I want to move passwords from the old installation to the new one.
It would be great if I could move all the links I get when I click the http://........ field also.

You can retrieve these from your old Profile. See [[Profiles]] which explains what they contain, and [[Managing Profiles]] for an explanation of how to move your data to the new profile.

  • I forgot password of my encrypted hard disk of my mac

i forgot password of my encrypted hard disk of my mac
anyone help me out to recover the data from it

While you can typically easily recover recently deleted files and there are companies that can even recover, to varying degrees of success, data from a damaged drive, there is no way to "recover" encrypted data as there is nothing to recover.  The data  hasn't been damaged.  Each individual bit has been changed.  With encryption, your files aren't simply "locked" with a password, but rather all of the data is actually changed.  So there is no way to "reset" the password like you would if you forgot your computers login password.  Without the password, there is no way to convert the data back to normal.

  • Installing Oracle 11gR2 RAC Problem: ASM disks

    Folks,
Hello. I am installing Oracle 11gR2 RAC using 2 Virtual Machines (rac1 and rac2 whose OS are Oracle Linux 5.6) in VMPlayer and according to the tutorial
    http://appsdbaworkshop.blogspot.com/2011/10/11gr2-rac-on-linux-56-using-vmware.html
At the first time, I create VM rac1. While its OS Oracle Linux 5.6 is booting, initializing ASMLib Driver OK. I create 5 ASM disks successfully using the command:
    [root@rac1 /]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk ASMDISK1 /dev/sdb1
Output: Marking disk "ASMDISK1" as an ASM disk: OK
Because the hard disk space of rac1 is not enough to install Database, I create VM rac1 again with bigger hard disk space (30GB). I do everything the same with that at the first time. But this time, While OS Oracle Linux 5.6 is booting, initializing ASMLib Driver failed. I create 5 ASM disks using the same command:
    [root@rac1 /]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk ASMDISK1 /dev/sdb1
Output: Marking disk "ASMDISK1" as an ASM disk: failed
But when I use the command:
    [root@rac1 /]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm listdisks
    Output: ASMDISK1 ASMDISK2 ASMDISK3 ASMDISK4 ASMDISK5
    My questions are:
First, can the 5 disks "ASMDISK1 ASMDISK2 ASMDISK3 ASMDISK4 ASMDISK5" be used correctly in spite of Marking disk "ASMDISK1(2 3 4 5)" as an ASM disk failed ?
Second, how to fix OS Oracle Linux 5.6 so that initializing ASMLib Driver OK while booting ?
    Thanks.

    Folks,
Hello. The issue is solved by myself. Thanks.

    Hello,
I have a Macbook Pro 17" i7 2,2 Ghz (early 2011 OSX 10.9.4) equipped with a 750 Gb Samsung SSD and a Secondary 750 Gb Toshiba HHD mounted in place of the Original Laptop's DVD optical Drive.
I've tried several times to Install Windows 8.0 into the Secondary HHD Drive (USB KEY created with a Windows 8.1 Iso Image through the Bootcamp assistent) but without success. This is the message at the end of the Windows 8.1 installation process:
"Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed."
    PLEASE HELP ME!!!
I've tried Everything but now I Don't Know what else to do!!!

First Of all Loner T, Thank You for your precious Help.
I've tried again and again this morning.... but with No Successs
I've spent so many hours this week tryin' to find a solution and I'm very frustrated.
I've also tried to follow this interesting post, but nothing changed:
The ultimate way to install Windows 8.x in (U)EFI mode on Apple systems
This is what I've done a few minutes ago:
    1) pressed +alt button and this is my startup:
    - Mac SSD is the Osx Mavericks Disk
    - EFI boot (I don't know what it is but If i select it the Macbook boots into Max Osx just like the first option)
    - Recovery
    - EFI boot (ORANGE) Is the Windows 8.1 USB KEY created through Bootcamp Assistent.
    I've selected EFI Boot (ORANGE)
    The Windows 8.1 installation Begins...
I've selected the Unlocated Partition on TOSHIBA Hard Disk
Everything Seems to go in the right way but... at the End:
"Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed."

  • Hi i had made internet recovery for my mac, and now trying to instal the osx on external hard disk

Hi , i had my mac showing the question mark box. So i made internet recovery, and now i'm trying to download the osx lion on external hard disk as it shows , but its failing again, i dont know why

    mamdouh elchami,
which model MacBook Pro do you have? If I understand you correctly, you have already made a successful OS X Internet recovery to your internal disk, and now you would like to install Lion on an external disk. Was it Lion that you had successfully downloaded and installed to your internal disk?

  • Installing Mountain Lion on BLANK hard disk that says I need more space

I'm trying to reinstall Mountain Lion to a blank hard disk. It stops during install and says I need 4.2G more space and suggests I free some up. It's a blank hard disk, all I have access to is Disk Utility. How do I free up space?

Did you format the blank disk and add a partition?
Can you provide a screen shot of Disk Utility?

If the complete 25 character windows activation key is visible on the Microsoft Windows COA on your notebook, you can download an identical iso file from here and install Windows.
Download the drivers from the HP web support portal for your notebook. Put them on a usb flashdisk (thumbdrive) for ease of installation.
Use the Microsoft Windows  7 USD\DVD download tool and a 4GB usb flashdisk (thumbdrive) for the fastest and most reliable means of installing Windows.
This way you can have your laptop in a useable state while you wait for your ordered recovery disk set.
    Best regards,
    erico

  • HP MINI 5101 problem with instaling XP SP3 with Usb Hard disk

i have problem formatting and installing windows XP SP3 with my usb hard disk on HP Mini 5101
my laptop wont read my usb anyone have any suggestions???
    please help

I dont know the exact reason.... and HP engineer can tell you though... but i'm sure that it was built like this purposly...
    my thinking is:
the WWAN Modem works constantly with the battery power as the AC power may differ some times and it can harm the modem...
    also suppose..
the netbook is running on the battery power and you are using the WWAN....
you plugged in the AC adapter... which will offcource change the incoming power to the laptop...
if the WWAN also switches to the AC power then it will face interaption and your work will get interepted....
    it is like cell phones.....
they will not get signal unless the battery is inserted...
