Bypassing 'Parse Error' without force quitting?

in case a 'Parse Error' is encountered, and oking it drives us into a loop with irresponsive Safari, is there a way to bypass the site without force quitting the application?

OK. First, never waste your time verifying permissions or the hard drive. Just repair them. Verify does not repair anything.
Second, your hard drive appears OK. The permissions messages are innocuous as they occur for everyone who installed a Front Row update and/or Java update. Simply put OS X replaced certain folder locations then replaced the original location with alias links to the new location. DU hasn't been fixed to reflect the change so it produces an error message related to these new links. Just ignore it.
Third, most likely your problem is unrelated to disk or permissions repairs. What you should try is removing cache files. I can make two suggestions here:
1. Download and install AppleJack - CNet Downloads or MacUpdate. Read the documentation carefully then follow the instructions.
2. Download a utility such as Leopard Cache Cleaner and use it to remove system, user, and font caches. An immediate restart is then required during which the caches are rebuilt.
3. Locate and delete the respective preference files for any applications that continue to quit unexpectedly.
4. See the following for additional assistance:

  • After installing AdBlock Plus I can't quit Firefox without force quitting - help!

I installed Adblock plus and immediately noticed several issues.
It took forever to bypass the NY Times opening ad and get to the real front page - troublesome, and time-consuming but at least I avoided the ad.
More importantly, I couldn't quit Firefox without force quitting. If I used Command Q or selected Quit Firefox from the menu, I got the spinning beachball of death.
When I disabled Adblock, the problem persisted. When I uninstalled Adblock Plus the problem was resolved and I could quit Ff in my usual manner.
Any solutions here or do I just forget about Adblock Plus - too bad, it seems like a great idea even though it slowed down NYT (it was faster just hitting the skip ad button after I uninstalled Adblock Plus)

    Problem solved.
Trashed folder for Adblock Plus and reinstalled.
Disabled Status-4-Evar and Adblock Plus works and I don't have to force quit to get out of Firefox.

I can't open a blank template, Can't quit pages without force quit, re-installed pages, no updates needed, rest of program seems to work, any answers?

Before trying to answer, I wish to check if you are really running under 10.4.11 and in this case, which is the exact application's version in use.

  • "Enter Password" prompt won't go away without Force Quitting Mail

Hi, I've been having this problem for a few weeks now. I have Mail at work set to always ask me for my password for a POP account (the only account setup in Mail). The problem is that if I don't type in the password correctly the first time, then I'm stuck with the "Enter Password for Account..." dialog box. Entering the correct password and pressing 'OK' or clicking 'Cancel' or pressing the Esc key doesn't work. The dialog box just stays open. The only way for me to get rid of it is Force Quit Mail and make sure I type it correctly the first time.
We have a million different accounts at work and they're all set to expire the password very often (without letting me re-use old passwords) so the chances of me typing an incorrect password are always pretty high...
I'm on a new Intel iMac, 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, with Leopard up-to-date. I've tried deleting the account entirely and re-creating it, but the problem happened again.

Any thoughts? I've tried repairing permissions and also deleting my mail preferences file, but the problem still pops up.

  • Since using Maverick OS, I cannot quit mail without "force-quit".

Since I downloaded and started using Maverick OS, I cannot quit Mail without using the "Force-Quit..." command. The "Quit Mail" command under the Menu is greyed out.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

You can also force quit apps using Activity Monitor located in HD > Applications > Utilities.
    Select the CPU tab.
    Select Mail under Process Name.
Select Mail then click the force quit icon  (circle with an x) top left side of the Activity Monitor window.

  • How to get an app to run again without forcing quit.

I was working on a paper and have multiple Word windows open. Once I logged on to my computer, I could not use/edit the current window that was open. I opened another window that was minimized and that one did not respond. I opened all of them and they all have the spinning rainbow thing that makes you wait until it loads. I would force quit, but I have unsaved documents (my paper). I did create a document which is saved in a folder on my desktop, but I worked on it since the last time I saved it and I do not know how much I would lose if I forced quit. Is there any way I could close other apps, delete downloads or create space (I am guessing that will help it load) that will allow it to load? I do not remember the last update I installed. I am almost positive I have not updated it from Mavericks to Yosemite.

if you force quit you loose everything. If you have no choice but to force quit your best bet is to restart the computer before you attempt to launch the application again to rule out a corrupt session. If the problem persists it could be a bug in the app, an incompatibility with something else running or permission issue.
reboot, if the problem persists try quitting out of all open applications and repairing permissions

  • Network settings drop down box won't go away without force quit.

When I click on network settings for any reason a drop down box appears that says "Your network settings have been changed by another application". The only option given is to click "OK". When I click "OK" the box goes up and immediately comes back down, over and over again. It will not go away until I force-quit system preferences. Any Ideas what's going on?

    Hi Clyde,
To stop the pop-up, Go to System Preferences: Security. Check the box next to "Require password to unlock each secure system preference." Then lock Security.

  • Version 5 of firefox causes my drive to grind and the program won't close without force quitting

I reinstalled program but problem still occurs. When I start Firefox my disk drive continues to work very hard and doesn't slow down. When I try to quit Firefox it won't and I have to use force quit

I found out what was wrong. It's an ad-on. SoThink Web Video Downloader Not that it is faulty or not compatible, it just keeps a cache of EVERYTHING you visit that is flash. Not just the flash that you download, but any flash on any site you visit. Mine was huge, I emptied it, and the problem stopped.

  • Is there a way to cancel a disk import without Force Quit of Itunes?

Sometimes a disk import hangs -- dirty disk, defective, whatever.
When this happens the import just hangs up - and I can't find any way to cancel the import except to Force Quit Itunes. The disk won't eject because it is "in use".
Is there another way? Or is Force Quit the only way?
    Thanks

actually, the real question is how to get back that import status if you've tried to play the songs while the import is occurring. Once it starts showing the duration etc. of a specific song, it's not clear how to show the import status and get the "x" back.

  • How do I fix safari freeze on 28Aug2011 brand new 13" Air, without 'force quit'

OSX Lion on a new Maxbook 128, 4GB air.
Safari freezes the last action I recall was sizing the window to full screen.  I am still able to access menu items, but cannot enter text.

Just curios to see if you found a fix?
Mine does the exact same thing - updated to latest Lion release (10.7.1) Still locks up randomly...
seems that the graphic/elements are not updating as i can still type in search field - but nothing happens.
    then have to force quit.

  • Mail won't quite without "force quite" , Mail stops receiving emails after a while, not happy about MAIL's performance!!!! :(

I have massive problems with Mail.
I use mail at work and have 3 accounts running
    1. Mac. mail account
    2. Gmail mail account
    3. Exchange Server
I have quite a few folders in my accounts where I have to archive my emails to.
Often very often or lets say annoyingly too often mail stops working.
    - stops receiving emails
    - emails I have put away in folders disapear in my inbox again
    - if I try to quite Mail it won't I have to force it and then when I open it again all my emails I was working on open again even so I have sent them already. Also all the emails I have folded away are back in my inbox WHAT A WAIST OF TIME!!
I AM VERY UNHAPPY ABOUT MAILS PERFORMANCE AT THE MOMENT! IT SIMPLY DOESN'T WORK!
Does anyone have the same problems and more importantly does anyone has a solution to this problem other then switching to Outlook???
    Thank you!
    Oliver

I have the "stops receiving mail" problem with Exchange.  Sometimes I can open up the Activty window in Mail and stop  the stuck processes. Other times I have to close then reopen Mail.  I usually do the latter. A fix would be nice.
I wonder if your other problems are related to this. The actual process of relocating your messages is maybe queued up behind one of the stuck processes. Just guessing. I have not had that problem.

  • When I click the Safari app to open it, I keep getting this popup and I cannot close it without force quitting. I also cannot use Safari at all because this keeps poping up what do I do?

I will get this popup and when I try to quit it, it will show another popup called MacKeeper.  I always get this ad however I have never downloaded. I am unable to use Safari because of this issue. I have tried restarting and shutting down my computer, but when I try and reopen Safari, I will get the same message and Mackeeper popup. Please help.    It's like these popup ads have taken over my Safari.  I have run multiple scans on my computer and it says no malware detected and no viruses.

Launch Safari with the Shift key held down. If that doesn’t work, disconnect your computer from the Internet and try again.
Those popups are being opened directly from the web and not by any malware installed on the machine.

  • Startup disk error requesting Force Quit Applications

What is the solution for the error message " Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory"? I still have over 600GB of memory left. My computer is also running very slow but will still open applications.

I'm not an expert on memory, but it sounds like you need more Ram Memory. The 600 GB is your hard drive space left.
I'm not sure how the computer allocates how much virtual memory is usable by programs. Open your activity monitor and look at your memory usage. You might also check the pageout section. If you use a lot of the hard drive space for application memory, then the page outs will be extremely high.
A computer restart should clear out some of the memory issues for a short time.
