C/C++ IDE for Mac

Hello there. Is there any C/C++ IDE for mac that is not Xcode or NetBeans? NetBeans always corrupts my files. I do not like Xcode. Any suggestions?

  • Best Simple IDE for MAC OS X

    Hi all,
I am just getting started in Java... I am going to take a class at the community college. I want to do my work on a iMac running OSX... I installed Net Beans and while it is nice it seems liek it does way more than I need to start with... I am really llloking for something that will allow me to code with the proper indents and color coding. It would be nice if it would compile and run programs for me but it is not necessary... I want to do the coding by hand... I do not want the IDE putting loads of crap into my programs... I am going to look into Jedit when I get home... It sounds good and light... Any thing else to look for for a OSX user on a budget?
    Thanks!

Though not referred to very often, Mac OS X users can use Project Builder in the developer tool kits, which also offers a occasion to develop standard Java tools.
As for emacs: If you would like to know about emacs, open Terminal and enter the command
    [~]username% man emacs
    or, enter the command
    [~/<>]username% emacs <java file>.java
where <java file> is a java file name which you saved in the current directory.
(When exiting emacs press "control"+"x"+"c" and then "y" if saving the change.)

  • Need IDE for Mac OS Jaguar

I have recently made the switch to Mac from Windows, and everything works beautifully for me except for one thing. I can't find any programming tools for C. I would love to use Xcode, but I don't have Tiger, and I don't plan on upgrading. What alternative IDEs could I use?
    Quicksilver 2002   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

It's only a big risk when your hard drive crashes or suffers file corruption. A backup is always a good thing to have. I always install a second hard drive for each computer and maintain a regular backup for each one.
You can easily clone your system to a second drive using the Restore option of Disk Utility:
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
    4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    5. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the startup or source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    8. Select the destination drive on the Desktop and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. At the bottom in the Ownership and Permissions section be sure the box labeled "Ignore Permissions on this Volume" is unchecked. Verify the settings for Ownership and Permissions as follows: Owner=system with read/write; Group=admin with read/write; Other with read-only. If they are not correct then reset them.
For added precaution you can boot into safe mode before doing the clone.
You can then use a third-party backup utility to maintain the clone with incremental updates. Some good choices are:
    Retrospect
    Synchronize! Pro X
    Synk 6
    Deja Vu
All work with Panther and Tiger and can perform both full and incremental backups as well as maintain bootable clones.
I agree, if all your software works fine there's no need to upgrade unless upgrades provide new features that you can use.
Why reward points?(Quoted from Discussions Terms of Use.)
The reward system helps to increase community participation. When a community member gives you (or another member) a reward for providing helpful advice or a solution to their question, your accumulated points will increase your status level within the community.
Members may reward you with 5 points if they deem that your reply is helpful and 10 points if you post a solution to their issue. Likewise, when you mark a reply as Helpful or Solved in your own created topic, you will be awarding the respondent with the same point values.

  • Ripping audio from a DVD - Any ideas for Macs

    Hi
I found a nice and simple piece of software from www.imtoo.com which can rip the audio out of a DVD and save it as an audio file for import to iPod. For a whole bunhc of reasons I'd rather have just the audio from films and comedy shows than the whole video.
Oddly this was listed in MacWorld, but they don't do an Apple Mac version. I am after a one stop solution if anyone knows of one - guess there must be as the IMTOO product works so elegantly, am sure someone has done this for the Mac.
    Cheers
    Sammy

I am not aware of any tool for the Mac that can rip audio from a DVD-A (audio only) disk.
I am also not aware of any 1 step tool for ripping the audio from ordinary DVD video disks.
The approach I took when I did this involved using MacTheRipper to copy to a hard disk, another tool to extract the audio, and then if I remember correctly, I used QuickTime to save the tracks as individual files (with the correct track lengths are listed on the cover). I was then able to burn the results files to a CD (audio format), and incredibly the resulting CD was recognised by iTunes (and Gracenote CDDB) with the correct tracks names etc. (The DVD was of a concert.)
This as you can tell was not a simple one step operation, it took most of an afternoon trying various tools.

  • Are there any good DVD authoring programs for Mac now that Apple has discontinued DVD Studio and iDVD? I need to make DVDs that have interactive menus and such (Final Cut X and Compressor 4's DVD option is a little cheap). Any ideas?

Are there any good DVD authoring programs for Mac now that Apple has discontinued DVD Studio and iDVD? I need to make DVDs that have interactive menus and such (Final Cut X and Compressor 4's DVD option is a little cheap and doesn't provide any kind of professional DVD authoring). Any ideas?

This comes up a lot these days.
Practically speaking, there are really four options for the Mac platform: Toast (<$100),  Adobe Premier Productiom ($1,600 to buy or $50/month to rent),  find a copy of Final Cut Studio from 3rd  party (+/- $1,000 new) or a boxed edition of iLife to get iDVD ($50 - $90 on Amazon new).
The other question everyone has is how many OS versions before iDVD or FCS breaks? No one knows, but Apple has said they're no longer supporting these legacy apps. Of course, no one is mandated to upgrade to a new OS unless they buy a new computer. So if it works on a system, stay with it as long as it makes sense.
    Good luck.

If you close all the windows and quit word, next time you restart, DO NOT check "Reopen windows on login".
Also, check your login items for your user account.

In Firefox 3.6.4 and later the default connection settings have been changed to "Use the system proxy settings".<br />
See "Firefox connection settings" in [[Server not found]]
You can find the connection settings in "Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection"<br />
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select No Proxy

  • ATA IDE for Power Mac 7200?

The original IDE with my Power Mac 7200 is 1.2 GB. It is getting tired recently. The connecter is a 50 pins. I have a 40-pin 15 GB IDE. How can I use the larger IDE for my PM 7200, if the larger IDE is useable in Power Mac 7200.
Thank you in advance for your advice.
    Robert

Your 7200's original 50-pin hard drive is connected to a SCSI bus, not an IDE/ATA bus. To use an IDE hard drive in it, you'll need a Mac-compatible ATA controller PCI card, because ATA controller cards designed for PCs won't function in a Mac. The Acard AEC-6260M features an ATA-66 bus, but is limited to IDE/ATA drives that are 128 GBs and smaller. At $25 (USD), it's the least expensive IDE/ATA solution for owners of older SCSI-based Macs. If you want to use a much larger drive (160 GBs and up), you would need an Ultra ATA-133 Mac controller card, that supports 48-bit LBA.

  • Can't open an Excel doc (w/ macros and VBA) in Excel 2011 for Mac. Anyone have any ideas (other than using a pc instead)?

    Hi all,
I am trying to open a document created in Excel in Windows on my Excel 2011 for mac copy.  The issue seems to be related to using the Macros and VB associated with the .xlsm doc.  The specific error I get in Excel is:
Compile error in hidden module: Utilities
When I try to open it in an Excel web app, or other online excel environment (whether using Firefox or Chrome) I get this message:
We can't show these features in the browser:
    VBA Project
    Shapes or other objects
few other forums suggested an issue with adobe add-ins, but I don't show one in the Excel>Tools>Addins dialogue.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

The same error message will result from a problem in any add-ins ,thus you should investigate other installed add-ins. It is worth the effort to try to start your excel program in safe mode. About how to use safe mode in Mac OS, Please refer to :http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892428
If this issue is gone in this situation, try to disable add-ins in excel.
In addition, since this issue is related to Excel 2011 for Mac, I would suggest that you post your issue in the following forum:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac

  • Since upgrading to Lion, movies won't play in PPT for Mac 2011. ideas?

Since upgrading to Lion, my movies will not play within PPT for Mac 2011.  Do I have to install new CODECs?  how?

Asatoran,    Good ideal.   I went there with the question and got this response:
"The windows version was probably built with active-x controls which do not work on the Mac. you will need to change the controls to those on the forms tool bar."
I found a form tool bar in the developer section, but nothing on active controls....and the sheet is protected not allowing any changes anyway.
    Thanks again for the direction.

  • Update in my Mac App Store. It is Angry Birds for Mac. Not my app and the Apple ID that it is registered to is not mine. Can't Delete it. Any ideas

Update in my Mac App Store. It is Angry Birds for Mac. Not my app and the Apple ID that it is registered to is not mine. Can't Delete it. Any ideas

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove may not be the one named in the update notice. For example, the App Store could prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app could be "Final Cut Pro." Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
              File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
              Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
              Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
              Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    3. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
    4. At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
    5. Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.
