C drive is almost full, E drive almost empty

Hi all
I'm not computer literate so apologies in advance.
I've read other threads here about the same problem but am still unsure if there is anything I can do to fix it. I have an EQUIUM laptop with VISTA home premium pre-installed. The computer is about 5 years old.
The VISTA "C" drive has 7.87 GB of free space from 55.8GB whereas the DATA "E" drive has 51.9 GB free of 54.4 GB.
As the computer often runs slow or freezes and needs to be shut down and re-opened I have in the past tried to move things from "C" to "E". All my data files and photos are now on the "E" drive and I have today removed all unwanted files from the "C" drive using the Microsoft programme.
It seems from the other answers given here that I cannot move anything else from the "C" drive so do I have to increase the memory of the computer and is the "C" drive filling up with all the Microsoft updates that keep happening?
If the computer needs to install programmes that take up all the space on one "drive" why don't the makers increase the capacity of that "drive" on day 1?
Should I just buy another computer?
Any advice, simply explained, would be greatly appreciated.

I read your posting but Im sorry Im still dont know what your problem is
You said that notebook runs slow and freezes sometimes.
In my personal opinion it has nothing to do with the partitions size on the HDD.
Your notebook is 5years old and I think the system was not reinstalled in the past
It could be possible that the system is muddled up and therefore the unit run slow.
I would recommend to reinstall the system again but backup the data before doing the new installation
PS: check also the cooling fans I think after 5 years of usage, the cooling modules are dustyuse an compressed air spray to clean the fans dust and debris inside the notebook prevent the notebook from cooling and this can affect the functionality.

[SOLVED] netconsole working great - local journal's now almost empty

the kernel command line never worked for me.
I realized I had network init disabled in the bios. Enabling bios init did not let netconsole start either at the boot parameters, or the entry in /etc/modules-load.d/
The service that loads the module after the network comes up works (additional note at end)

to the question at hand, the local log's almost empty - no entries for USB device insertions (these go to the target machine), udev/dbus stuff that I used to get from mozilla ... tons of stuff that used to be in there.
I had to reinstall Arch, I'm still recovering so that complicates matters: I may have had an old systemd setup that wrote too much.

the issue now is, the local journal's empty of a lot of stuff that used to show up.

Update: when the journal starts up systemd will stop logging to the console, so if you want to get all systemd messages also pass systemd.log_target=kmsg.
(I may have misunderstood; that sentence may have meant ... "if you want to get all systemd messages" TO THE REMOTE machine)
did not work (to restore the local entries), neither did these (taken from the systemd man page, SIGRTMIN+26, SIGRTMIN+27, SIGRTMIN+28)

I got stuck on thinking about netconsole - finally I realized it was indeed the reinstall I had done
That reinstall took away the users added to the systemd-journal group.

We tried to install Adobe Premiere Element and it keeps saying the E drive is empty.

Adobe Premiere Elements 13.1 keeps saying the E drive is empty. We got around it by changing the name to another letter. Why did it do this?

Please explain your question a bit further. Is the following your scenario?
1. You installed Adobe Premiere Elements 13 (on what computer operating system?) Assumed from installation disc and to the default location on the Local Drive C.
2. You are inserting your installation disc into the burner tray, the burner being the E drive? And, you get a message about empty E drive instead of the AutoPlay for
you to click on to start the installation path?
There is a known problem with Premiere Elements 13/13.1 where installation of this version generates a No Disc error. The fix for that is deleting or disabling the OldFilm.AEX
file in the path
Program Files
Adobe
Adobe Premiere Elements 13
Plug-ins
Common
NewBlue
and in the NewBlue Folder is the OldFilm.AEX file that you delete or disable by renaming it from OldFilm.AEX to OldFilm.AEXOLD.

Optical drive constantly making ejecting sounds when drive is empty

the disc drive on my iMac randomly tries to eject a disc for a minute or more at a time when the drive is empty....any ideas why this is??

Hmmm, I think I'd try this...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. (Thinking maybe iTunes helper here).
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Why does my iphone5 tell me my mail is using 2.4Gb, despite the inbox being almost empty? I've emptied all the other inboxes and all trash box too.

About to update to verson 8.3 but would like to have more space.
My Mail app says it is occupying 2.4Gb but the inboxes etc are almost empty.
I have emptied everything including the 'All Trash' but the 2.4GB never changes, just leaving a handful of current emails in my inbox.

Well it probably means exactly what it says... How much free space is there on your hard drive where the iTunes Media folder resides? I believe there is also an obscure bug that can occur when software doesn't read the true value of the free space properly, and the workaround is, perversely, to duplicate some content so that with less actual free space the software in question perceives it as more. I've no idea if iTunes is affected by such a bug.

Sync - FROM a full iPhone3Gs, TO a empty/clean/new install, of iTunes

I had problems with sync between iTunes-iPhone3Gs from day 1.
I have been using iTunes for the last 5-6 years, for my music-libery without any serious problem. The 1 day i connectet my iPhone, all seems to go/sync well. But allready the next day, i got problem with syncing the iPhone. I had to rename my iPhone, before i could sync again. I had this problem for some time(with 8-9 new names after all) and today i turned on my PC and everything in iTunes WAS: WIPED - EMPTY - CLEAN!!?
Well i cleaned out all "left-overs" of iTunes-Files, and made at new clean install(of iTunes - Last Version)
My problem is ....i cant find any ways to: sync my full iPhone over to empty iTunes( = load-off all my stuff FROM the iPhone TO iTunes on my PC)
and plz ..read what i ask for! - I KNOW, i can sync iTunes to my iPhone(but thats NOT what i ask for!) - the OTHER way arrround: FROM the iPhone, TO iTunes ...HOW is that done?!?
No matter how i try(to load all my: app's , programs, music, pictures, films ect. ect) ..it tell me, that it will copy all the stuff from iTunes(read that: Nothing) to my iPhone ..and I stop there ..because it really mean that it will wipe my iPhone too, if I proceed.
Since i had enough(when I lost all my music, thanks to a iTune-failure) i really dont wanna loose any more by making a "sync-wipe" to my iPhone!
For crying out loud... why do Apple make this so hard to work/figure out?? - this should be an easy task to save all my stuff and savings from my iPhone, into iTunes ...but NO ...it seem like the only thing it alows, is syncing FROM iTunes ..and since my iTunes is emty ..my iPhone will also end up emty, after a sync....!

Thats sad - I really liked the phone ..the way it worked and the wide range of apps, that made it possible to tailoring the interface, to a degree beone my imagination.
But the fact, that because of "the potential" of someone maybe "stealing music", they throws the phone in chains ..and give this phone and an extra disadvantage compared to other mobiles?!?
To be honest - I'd rather lose the ability to listen to music on the iPhone than to end up with worse backup options.
This is primarily a phone - not an mp3(4)-player (apple has their ipod for that!) and it's grotesque to see how Apple choose to destroy the usability, just to ensure an unnecessary sideshow on the phone. That said - this is only a problem found on iPhone(Apple-product) - All other company has fully functioning solutions without it imposes restrictions on the phone usability - if Apple has a problem with this, they should prefer to remove music from the iphone, but to destroy the backup options with so many disabilities.
Music... That made me think alot!
I have(at home) more than 2000 CD's of music and those CD's, have ALL been bougth from legal stores/shops and should and should therefore be regarded as legal. I chose to copy all my music onto my private NAS Server, so everyone in my house can use it - Still fully legal(where I come from) because I own the music in CD's.
But because I did not buy music through itunes, itunes can not register or check if my music is legal. So I guess.. that itunes will probably judge me as a music thief, or what?!?

Drive C almost full and Drive E empty

I bought this 1TB PC primarily for gaming. It's brand new, I did not partition any drive or do any configuration. Just installed some games, then when I tried to install Microsoft Office, I was told there is insufficient space. When I look at my system, I see the following:
Windows (C - 4.49GB free of 101GB - in RED
Recovery Image (D - 2.02GB free of 15.7GB
DATADRIVE1 (E - 840GB free of 931GB
1. Why does HP partition my drives and give so little space to drive C? Is there a way for me to increase the space for drive C, and reduce the space for drive E?
2. I was advised to install programs into E, but for some programs like MS Office, there is no option to allow me to choose any other drive. And I always get the Insufficient space message. I suspect many other programs also got installed into drive C by default or maybe there was no other option.
3. What other solutions or options are there for me?

I have to assume the 1TB drive was partitioned either by you or the tech that installed the OS in the manner described. Windows 8 does not normally set itself up that way. Go to "Disk Management" to give Windows a chance at resizing the partitons. If you need directions to find Disk Management, look HERE. If that does not allow you to resize the C:\ by taking space from the E:\, then look at something similar to EaseUS Partition Master Free 10.2 to resize it. GParted will work and is free but since you are using Windows 8, it will be harder to boot to the GParted CD.
BTW: I checked about making M$ Office install on another drive and many have run into the same problem as mentioned. The new "Click and Run" I think its called, will not allow any user interaction other than click next.

C: drive full (149GB) D: drive nearly empty

Not a computer specialist, so please be gentle. I can't find an answer to this on the forum that I can make sense of!
My Satellite Hard Drive is full!
WIndows C: = 4.94 GB free of 149 GB
Data D: = 138GB free of 148 GB
So, some questions:
How do I free up space on the C Drive?
Can I move stuff onto the D: Drive (photos, music &c) and the Library still find it?
As I say, I'm not a specialist!

You can copy the contents of your whole user folder (if it is not too big!) from C: to D: e.g. c:\users\fred\
Then if you right click on each of the libraries on C: (documents, music, videos etc) and select properties you can include the new folder location on D: and after remove the folder location for C:. Then when you click on the library it will take you to the files on D: instead of C:.
For 'downloads' you will need to change the browser options (e.g. in Internet Explorer, Chrome etc) to point to the new 'downloads' folder on D: so that it saves them there.
Same thing with iTunes and other applications you use.
You can change the location of almost everything including important things like 'desktop', 'favourites' and 'contacts'.
If you restore your C: drive you won't lose anything. You will just have to add the locations to the libraries to point to the files in D: again. 5 mins work instead of hours restoring backups of your files!

Hard drive is getting full - how do I empty it?

My hard drive seems to be too full and I don't know how to get it cleaned up. It's a late-2008 alum 13" macbook, 250gb HDD, and only has 68gb available. I know there is a pretty good sized music library on the drive, but all my photos/videos are stored on an external. How can I narrow down the location of the largest files? Is there a feature I can access that will list the stuff in the order of size magnitude? I basically want to find the largest files and either delete or relocate in order to free up space and hopefully have the computer running a little more efficiently.

Hard Drive is full. Didn't empty trash bin but can't see deleted files.

My MBP Retina is warning me that hard drive is full. I have deleted large files, but they don't appear in trash. Can't see them in folder either. But memory issue persists. Never emptied trash bin, but still can't see them.

I have the same problem. My hard drive is full and my trash appears empty. When I drag items to trash it makes the sound but the file doesn't delete and or appear in the trash can. I've tried holding down "option" to empty, going to Finder and holding "shift+command+option" but nothing happens.

Okay, try starting your Macbook Pro with the original DVD that came with the system. Then start disk utiltiy to repair your hard drive. If you hard drive is full you would need to open the terminal program and delete some files. That could be difficult if you don't know any Unix commands.
