"C" key CD start won't work............

I tried starting from a CD several times using the "C" key at restart - but it just won't work!
Any ideas as to why?
Thanks

As far as I know the tech tool CD is not boot compatible with any Intel based Mac including the MacBook Pro. The repair utilities may be, I haven't tried them. As far as I can tell, the information is not officially posted anywhere on Apple's website but my past experience says that it takes weeks to months for the AppleCare discs to be updated.
This may be official. It says that Tech Tool Pro is not compatible with the MacBook Pro:

  • My i-pod key pad/wheel won't work unless it is hooked up to my computer

I bought my i-pod a while back, and it has worked fine until now. My i-pod key pad/wheel thing won't work unless I have it hooked up to my computer. When it is hooked up it works fine, when it isn't hooked up the key-pad/wheel thing won't respond to any thing, it just won't work. Please help me figure out what is wrong with my i-pod and fix it!!!!!

No. Back it up anyway. If you can't use the built-in backup function of iTunes, find the library in the Windows Explorer and back that folder up as you would any other.

  • Hard start won't work ?

I have the iphone 4 and the hard start will not work and I receive an error message when trying to restore through itunes on my macbook, any other suggestions?

First, check this: Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery. If you can use Network Recovery, then do the following:
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button. Be sure to select the SSD.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • A key on keyboard won't work when cold

When my MacBook Pro is cold, the "a" key won't respond.  After the computer warms up, I have no further problems.  Any suggestions?

Just how cold? Your MBP has the following temperature guidelines:
    Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)
    Storage temperature: –13° to 113° F (–24° to 45° C)
Are you operating in an enviornment below 50ºF/10ºC?

  • My licence key for CS6 won't work with Acrobat X Pro

I have an education licence for CS6 and was having trouble with Adobe Acrobat. It just wouldn't open, no matter what I tried. So I decided to uninstall and reinstall it.
After uninstalling and downloading Acrobat XI Pro, I was told my licence wouldn't work for XI, so I download Acrobat X Pro, which is listed as being part of CS6. However when I got to the installation and was asked for my serial number, it said the number I entered wasn't valid. I tried entering it in both with and without hyphens and got the same issue.

You can also download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

  • Java Web Start won't work, applications don't open

    I have this problem.
When I open a Java Web Start application, a white loading screen shows up (Java Loading...), and I wait a few seconds, nothing happens, and the screen disapears. I don't have an idea what's wrong. I'll appreaciate any help.

Do you have Java configured to pop up a console
when JWS applications load? If not, ask it to do
so (I am still not sure that the console will appear,
but it is worth a try).
Are you able to load any JWS applications?
Here is a specific example of a very simple one

  • My Delete key won't work

I'm having difficulty with the delete key. It won't work unless I highlight what I need to delete. But if I just want to delete an individual character without highlighting it, it will not work. What should I do?

Strange, can you attach a USB KB to test if it's the OS or not?

  • IMac G5 iSight freezes on startup - CDs won't work

    Hi everyone.
My iMac G5 iSight is freezing up on startup. It was running slowly and erratically, so I restarted it - ever since it has failed to start up.
It gets though the basic hardware check and gets to a point where there is the big apple logo and the circular pulsing thing that suggests it is loading - however it never gets any further.
I tried loading with a CD holding the c key -but that won't work. The CD drive revs up, but it gets stuck at the same location.
I've zapped the PRAM several times (twice each). No effect.
I've disconnected the keyboard and all peripherals.
I've removed the memory module I added 2 years ago.
So, I'm stuck. It doesn't look like complete hardware failure - or it wouldn't get as far is it does.
Is there any other way to force a reset of some kind that will allow me to boot from a CD?
    Thanks in Advance.

Check the Repair extension programs and look for your number. Whether you qualify also depends on how old your computer is. The extension cuts off three years after the original purchase date, but they have been known to make exceptions.

  • Delete Key and Space Bar Stopped Working

I have an older MacPro  - the MacPro 1,1 model.
Hadn't used it in a while a - when I set it up again the keyboard's Delete key and SpaceBar won't work.
    Here is the topline:
    1. I left the power cord in the office and used a PC one. Not sure if this could be the cause.
    2. I upgraded to 10.6.8 the most current. Didn't help.
    3. Reset the PRAM - Didn't Help.
    4. Checked the Keyboard Viewer - Not sure what that does other than to confirm something is happening.
If I had to guess - and based on other forums I have looked at - it will likely be a power issue.
How that affects these keys - I have no idea.
    I will test this next.
But if anyone has experienced this would love to hear if you solved it.
    Thanks,
    -jc

    Thanks Grant,
    appreciate the info.
I did try that, and switching the power cord (Which was a long shot) and still not luck.
    Pretty facinating issue.
I am going ot continue to look through the forums and see if I find anything.
    Thanks again!
If anyone else has had this issue with an older MacPro - I would love ot hear it.

  • Start-up problem keys won't work

    Hello out there,
    I have another start-up problem with a G5 2.0 GHz (7.2).
    I can't use any start-up keys (such as holding c oder s).
I can't reset PRAM. Starting from CD works only when I unplug the hard drive. The keyboard works fine than.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanx
    Thorsten
    all from G3 to G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I found an answer by myself.
Holding the power button after switching on brings you to the open firmware.
    Now you can type:
    reset-nvram [enter]
    reset-all [enter]
After that the startup keys worked again.

Boot off your *original* Install Disk while holding down the *d key*, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD. Some have it on the Disc #2.
The Memory test can really only be trusted if it finds a problem, not if it doesn't find a problem.

  • Page Up and Down keys won't work - have tried everything

My Page Up and Down keys won't work. I've tried hitting F7, the Fn key, checked that the "Always use cursor keys to navigate" box is not selected in the Advanced Options tab and made sure that the "Use autoscrolling" tab is selected. I tried uninstalling and re-installing Firefox, tried hitting buttons F1 through to F12 and then checked that accessibility.warn_on_browsewithcaret is set to 'true'.
It also won't work in Internet Explorer - I have no idea what else to try. My Up/Down arrows are working, just not the Page Up/Page Down buttons. Please help, this is driving me nuts. It's only just started happening; I've never had a problem with it before!

What is the value of the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/accessibility.browsewithcaret accessibility.browsewithcaret] on the about:config page?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Key binding won't work with alt-up and alt-left arrow combined

I was playing with key binding trying to create a small app where a timer is started with the press of an alt-arrow key and stopped when the key is released. The timers append Strings to a JTextArea telling which alt-arrow key is currently pressed.
This program works, and in fact if you press a combination of any two keys, both timers will work simultaneously, that is unless you press both up arrow and left arrow together. Can anyone see a bug in the program that explains why it won't work for these two particular keys when combined? Thanks in advance, Pete

  • Start won't appear after clicking start button or win key on keyboard

It's happened after update to 9926. First start menu works properly but after reboot it broken-down. Right click works fine. Before reboot i disabled "Windows search" service but i don't think it related.

Start won't appear after clicking the start button or win key on keyboard on the second user account. It works fine on the administrator account. UAC changes have no effect. Re-booting has no effect. Build is 9926
