C libraries for Oracle 8i
I am trying to find the c libraries for Oracle, and any documentation out there. Anyone point me at the FM?
I've got the same problem, but I'm on WinNT. I can't start the service for Oracle Manager.
Did anyone reply to this with a fix?
Thanks!
Sam

Does oracle ucm license allow to use itext libraries for splitting pdf
Hello,
we want to create a component which uses the itext component for splitting pdf files. The itext component comes with the oracle ucm 11g standard installation.
Our question would be, if it is allowed to use the itext libraries for our own needs, since the libs come with the standard ucm installation.
Where can we find out?
Greetings
BodhyMy understanding is you will require additional licences for the new installation in production. However, I am not an Oracle employee, a licencing expert or a lawyer, so I advise you to discuss this with your Oracle account manager.

How can I use custom WLST commands for Oracle SOA Suite in Weblogic
Hi There,
I'm trying to view and search the weblogic log files using WLST on a Solaris/Unix system.
I have come across this "custom WLST commands for Oracle SOA Suite" and thought of using the custom logging commands to get my task done.
However, my WLST shell is not recognizing the commands and giving me the NameError!
wls:/devDomain1/domainRuntime> listLogs()
Traceback (innermost last):
File "<console>", line 1, in ?
NameError: listLogs
I tried the commands listLogs, displayLogs, getLogLevel & setLogLevel but in vain!
I have followed the instructions as per the oracle recommendation of using Custom WLST commands (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E29597_01/core.1111/e10105/getstart.htm#ASADM10692) as below
- Launched the WLST shell from Oracle Home.
cd ORACLE_HOME/common/bin
./wlst.sh
- Tried to run the listLogs command from domainRuntime()
I would like to know if I need to import any additional libraries to run the custom WLST commands for Oracle SOA Suite in my WLST shell?
I have only weblogic 10.3.1 server installed on my Solaris 10 machine on which I have deployed the OSB application software.
There is no SOA Suite installed.
Or is there any other way I can browse the Server Log file and get the list of log messages? Basically I would like to use this feature in my script to customize it according to my requirement of listing specific error logs which I can work it out if I know how to make these commands work.
Please advise if this is possible and how?
Cheers.
SatishI have tried on my OSB installation (no SOA Suite here), the command listLogs() works (I was in online mode, after a connect), and the classpath is:

Hello
Background:
We had Oracle 11.1.0.7.0 32-bit EE on Windows 2003 32-bit EE and now migrated to 64-bit (both OS and DB) and everything worked brilliantly ok except...
Problem:
We used to be able to connect to an external application (Postcode Plus from AFD) via extproc to search postcodes / addresses etc. However, after the migration getting the error:
ORA-06520: PL/SQL: Error loading external library
ORA-06522: Unable to load DLL
The listener.ora and tnsnames.ora configuration as exactly same as what we had on 32-bit machine (except the host name).
For convenience, I've attached both here:

Questions:
1. Does extproc for Oracle 64-bit 11.1.0.7 on Win 2003 64-bit load 32 bit DLL?
2. When searched got a quite of lot link about extproc32 (for all versions of UNIX), but not for Windows and found this link Extproc32 installation Does that mean it is not possible to load 32-bit DLL on 64-bit Windows installation?
3. Is there any workarounds? Or am I stumped so I should now go back and reinstate the 32-bit installation?
Any input / recommendation is appreciated!!

Installing ArcSDE 9.2 for Oracle version 10G R2 on Windows 2003 x64
We submitted this question on an ESRI user forum, but we would also like to submit it elsewhere to ensure an answer.
We are trying to install ArcSDE 9.2 for Oracle. The version of Oracle is 10G R2 (10.2.0.1). The server is a Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 edition with SP1. There are now 2 instances of Oracle on the server, but this problem originally occurred when there was only one instance. The issue: ArcSDE 9.2 apparently installs just fine. There are no error messages during the run of the installation process. However, when the Post-Installation process is called, a critical error alert pops up reporting, "The application failed to start because OCI.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application might fix this problem." ArcSDE has been uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Oracle has been uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Various searches have been made, concerning this error message. On Friday the only ESRI Article we could find mentioning this error was Article ID: 25388 which stated that the "ORA81/bin" directory needed to be added to the PATH environment variable. However, today we found a new ESRI forum entry dated 6/2/2007 with the querystring "c=2&f=1717&t=223961" in which someone reported the need to install the 32 bit Oracle_HOME. However the ESRI Support Center article he referenced, (dated November 14, 2006), stated that the 32 bit Oracle Client needed to be installed to a different Oracle_HOME and the service name created for it, is to be used in the Post-Installation process. And finally our Oracle DBA reported seeing another Support Center Article which stated that the 32 bit versions of the Oracle libraries are installed by default in a different location, and it was only necessary to add that location to the PATH environment variable. I have also seen information on Oracle forums stating that this message means that the Oracle client needed to be installed, but our Oracle DBA reports that this is installed by default with Oracle DB server. My question is of course which if any of these solutions is correct?
E.R. Joell MCSD MCDBAI have managed an ORacle/ArcSDE environment for many years where multiple SIDs were running.
If it doesn't know which SID then it would indicate that it is picking up the wrong ORACLE_SID environment setting. To be honest, UNIX is an easier environment to operate software in as one can set environment variables to suit software very directly. Now I have not run ArcSDE on a Windows environment before so any suggestions I have may not work as I write them.
Still, I would suggest you consider writing a CMD/batch script that:
1. Set all appropriate Oracle environment variables DIRECTLY eg
SET ORACLE_BASE=c:\oracle\product
SET ORACLE_HOME=c:\oracle\product\10.2.01
SET ORACLE_SID=...
2. Set the ArcSDE environment
3. Sets the Path to include all Oracle, ArcSDE and required Windows executables
4. Start the ArcSDE service:
NET START ESRARCSDE (or whatever this thing is called)
I suspect if you can get this going you will never go back to any other method of starting and managing ArcSDE (this approach works and works well on UNIX so you will be all skilled up to migrate across to Linux/Solaris etc if you see fit).
Hope this helps.
PS I have run ArcSDE against non-supported versions quite successfully over the years so I would say try it against 10.2.0.1 and see what happens.

Where install JAR libraries on Oracle server
Hi,
I have a little problem (of course) to put my libraries (*.jar) on the Oracle server.
In witch directory on the Oracle server I must deposit Jar libraries to be used by my Java stored developments ?
For example, my Java stored development use "fop.jar" and "xercesImpl-2.7.1.jar" and I don't want stored this libraries into the Oracle user (with loadJava command) ?
Is there a file to configure? A special directory where I can deposit my libraries ?
I use Oracle server 10g on unix.
Thanks for your help...No no no !!! Please !!! Find me another response !! ;o)

Can't Create the ODBC connection for Oracle 10g
Hi,
I am working with Oracle 10g Database Release 2 in windows XP professional. I am trying to create an ODBC connection for oracle but become failure because its generating the following errors:
system error code 998
could not locate the setup or translator library
Please help me how can I solve this problem and create the ODBC connection for oracle 10g database.
Best Regards,mwz wrote:

could not locate the setup or translator libraryThe symptom described is typical of an incorrect system env PATH setting (used by the data source admin tool), compared to that of the Oracle Home (specifically, path $OH/bin). The odbc driver config routine will search directories listed in PATH variable for necessary libraries (Client dll's). If some library fails to load (from e.g. oraoci*.dll or oraclient10.dll) it will probably error out, as in your case.
Are you creating the odbc dsn on the databse server host or on some other machine? I.e. are you using the db host as a client or not? -
Hardening Linux for Oracle 10g
I have been working on creating a bare-bones RHEL 5 installation which will act as an Oracle 10g database server. For hardening Linux, I have restricted to a bare minimum of packages to make it more secure. This installation did not have X-Windows, Gnome/KDE and a host of other services that will not be required on Production servers. I selected only the BASE installation which was further customized to include just the following (there is scope to trim this further, so feedback is welcome):
NetworkManager
readahead
smartmontools
yum-updatesd
irqbalance
acpid
crash
cryptsetup-luks
dos2unix
dump
finger
gnugpg
ksh
libaio
logwatch
m2crypto
man-pages
mdadm
nano
numactl
openssh-clients
openssh-servers
pam_ccreds
pam_krb5
pam_passwdqc
sendmail
setuptools
stunnel
sudo
symlinks
system-config-network
tree
unix2dos
unzip
vconfig
wget
which
yum
yum-rhn-plugin
yum-security
zip
Since I do not intend to use nfs, nis, samba – associated packages were not included. Further hardening was achieved by deleting non-required services (kudzu, avahi, gpm, atd, netfs, ip6tables).
The challenge comes when I begin setting up Oracle 10g using the oracle validated rpm method. In an attempt to resolve dependencies, YUM ends up installing 70 packages that do not apparently seem to have anything to do with an RDBMS (sound libraries, Gnome, X libraries and tools etc.). For me the libraries/binaries required for linking appear to be justified but the rest appear to be installed only for the Installer.
This package addition also ends up installing gamin which provides the gam_server which has bugs in it that lead to > 90% CPU consumption.
I further tried erasing some of the packages to see if anything broke. Till now nothing is broken and the database is running fine. Till now I have removed:
gamin
gamin-python
gnome-mount
gnome-vfs2
libbonoboui
libgnome
libgnomeui
oracle-validated
yum-updatesd
esound
hicolor-icon-theme
GConf2
gnome-keyring
gtk2
libglade2
libgnomecanvas
libnotify
libwnck
notification-daemon
audiofile
cups-libs
gnome-mime-data
cairo
pango
My questions:
• How have you created a production/hardened Linux based Oracle installation?
• Can you share your experiences in hardening Linux for Oracle and deploying the Oracle 10g RDBMS without installing the scores of packages which themselves might compromise the server?
• What exactly is the dependency for the Oracle 10g RDBMS on X11, Gnome, Gamin and graphic libraries such as Cairo and Pango (to name a few)?
• Which Linux system services are really mandatory for Oracle?
• Does a non-default secure installation compromise Oracle support?
The current memory footprint for this setup (without any workload) is (figures in MB):
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 1010 458 552 0 19 377
-/+ buffers/cache: 61 949
Swap: 2047 0 2047
…of this 290 MB belongs to Oracle ☺
I will be working with the other route – without using the oracle-validated rpm.
Please let me have your feedback.

AniruddhaHi,
I'll paste the rpm -qa of a RHEL5 server I have installed through rpm -ivh (not yum at all)

Help in creating the connection pool for Oracle 8i using Jdriver
Hi
Iam pretty new to Weblogic and would be greatfull if some one can help me
out in finding the parameters to be specified in Weblogic console for creating
a Connection pool for Oracle 8i database running on solaris. I have installed
necessary client libraries in weblogic machine.
The details for my database are as follows
database name : mydb
database server : 173.24.24.1
database port : 1521
username : myuser
I would appreciate if you can provide me the following details to be entered in
weblogic console for creating the connection pool
URL
DRIVER CLASS NAME
PROPERTIES
ACL NAME
PASSWORD
Thanks,
S HariHari
Jdbc Connection Pool Configuration
URL= jdbc:weblogic:oracle
DRIVER CLASS NAME=weblogic.jdbc.oci.Driver
PROPERTIES
user=myuser
password=<password in mydb>
server=mydb
After configuring Connection Pool Select Targets tab. Select Server from Available
to Chosen.

/lib32 folder required for Oracle 11g on Linux 32 bit
Hi,
I have 64 bit linux and Oracle 11g installed but one of my applications is using 32-bit libraries.
So i am thinking of copying the lib32 folder in ORACLE_HOME and paste the path in LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
Will it work or not????
If YES, i need the lib32 folder for Oracle 11g R2 on Linux 32 bit. Can someone please tell me from where can i download it?Hi;
In addition to Srini, I suggest to review:

Oracle 11gR2 certification for Oracle Linux 6
Hello,
According to Oracle documentation, database certification and support for Oracle 11gR2 under Oracle Linux starts with 11.2.0.3.
I was wondering if this might have anything to do with the i386 software prerequisites. Speaking of Oracle 11gR2 x86_64, the need for i386 libraries was removed with 11gR2 11.2.0.2. Or in other words, one can go straight to 11.2.0.2 without the need to install any 32-bit libraries.
Under Oracle Linux 5 x86_64, the "oracle-validated" package triggers the installation of several i386 packages. Under Oracle Linux 6 x86_64, the oracle-rdbms-server-11gr2-preinstall package uses x86_64 only. Under Oracle Linux 6, i386 changed to i686.
For what it's worth, I have installed Oracle 11gR2 database 11.2.0.1 under Oracle Linux 6.1 to 6.3, both x86_64, simply by using the oracle-rdbms-server-11gr2-preinstall package, and so far have not noticed any problems. Is there some information available, why 11.2.0.1 (x86_64) should not be used or is not certified for Oracle Linux 6 (x86_64)?
Thanks.I was afraid of that. Since the question is Oracle Linux 6 specific, I thought I'd try my luck here, thinking that if I get an answer, then probably here. Maybe it was not very realistic to get an answer anyway.
For what it's worth. Using "oracle-validated" under Oracle Linux 5, and "oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall" under Oracle Linux 6, I was able to install Oracle 11gR2 11.2.0.1 just fine, both platforms x86_64 and 32-bit. I have not found any operational issues yet and it seems to run perfectly well.
The only trouble I had was with Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.1, and here 11.2.0.3 is indeed required for it to install. I made a custom patch, just a few lines and after that 11.2.0.1, both x86_64 and 32-bit installed just fine and is fully operational.
I'm though I could post the patch. I guess it might make those people happy who do not have access to Oracle support and download 11.2.0.3. The patch will allow them to use the 11gR2 OTN version and install it under Oracle Linux 6. It won't be certified, but it is good enough for the purpose of education.

XA jDriver for Oracle problem : Getting native code exception
Hi,
I'm getting a native code exception which causes the Weblogic server to crash when
using XA drivers for transaction with two oracle databases. My application uses RMI
and threads.
I'm using BEA's jDriver for Oracle running under Weblogic server 6.1 sp1 talking
to Oracle 8.1.6. The OS is Solaris 2.8.
In middle of the program execution it's giving this problem. I'm using jdk131 in
solaris platform.
Any idea what's going on here ?
Thanks,
Nagoor Haja

Hi,
I'm getting a native code exception which causes the Weblogic server
to
crash when
using XA drivers for transaction with two oracle databases. Myapplication
uses RMI
and threads.
I'm using BEA's jDriver for Oracle running under Weblogic server 6.1sp1
talking
to Oracle 8.1.6. The OS is Solaris 2.8.
In middle of the program execution it's giving this problem. I'm
using
jdk131 in
solaris platform.
Any idea what's going on here ?
Thanks,

Cannot determine all dependent dynamic libraries for /proc/self/exe
Each time I start Oracle XE i writes this entry in the alert log as the first thing:
Wed Jun 14 23:45:45 2006
Starting ORACLE instance (normal)
Cannot determine all dependent dynamic libraries for /proc/self/exe
The open() system call failed for the file /proc/self/exe
Linux Error: 13: Permission denied
This file is just a dynamically created link to /bin/ls like this
lrwxrwxrwx 1 fgjensen users 0 2006-06-15 10:16 /proc/self/exe -> /bin/ls
and looking at the permissions the oracle use should have the permissions it needs.

FlemmingSuSE Linux 9 and 10 have this problem. It's not serious - simply an indiocation that LD_LIBRARY_PATH is not set up correctly.
Solution: for SuSE systems, edit /etc/init.d/oracle-xe and make the following mod:
ORACLE_OWNER=oracle
ORACLE_SID=XE
export ORACLE_HOME
export ORACLE_SIDchanges to
ORACLE_OWNER=oracle
ORACLE_SID=XE
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
export ORACLE_HOME
export ORACLE_SID
export LD_LIBRARY_PATHI'm running that on my system and that has eliminated the alert.log message. (And the LD_LIBRARY_PATH message about 3 lines later.) -
How to create a DSN (Data Source Name) for "Oracle 10g XE" on SUSE 10??
Hii Friends,
I am new Linux user.I installed SUSE Linux 10.2. I am planning to do my project on Linux with J2EE,Oracle technologies. I installed Oracle 10g Express Edition. But unfortunately i have no provider name for oracle in the Providers List in SUSE/Gnome Desktop/System/Data Access points/ dsn list. I am unable to understand what actually happened. Should i install any other libraries, or Odbc drivers (I mean aren't they not given by Oracle XE Setup, as in MS Windows XP) ? Any one please help me. I need this immediately.
Waiting for a reply,

Vizag.I am planning to do my project on Linux with J2EE,Oracle technologies. You don't need to set up a DSN. Just use a JDBC connect string such as jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:xe
