C:\programdata\apple computer\installer cache doesn't exist

I can't uninstall or upgrade QuickTime.  The installer alerts with "Error getting file security: C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\  GetLastError: 5".
The C:\ProgramData\ directory doesn't exist on my system (Win 7 Prof 64 bit on Dell laptop).
How can I get this program uninstalled and/or upgraded?
Thanks

It will most likely be there. (It's hidden by default on a Windows Vista or 7 system.)
The 5 suggests either permissions trouble or file damage. Perhaps let's first try checking on disk damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Instller cant make "C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\Quicktime

My girlfriends computer (Inspiron 1440; Windows 7) was running iTunes fine for awhile. the upon an update it started to get the 2330 error. a disk check worked once, but it soon reverted back to the 2330 error. so here we were unable to install or uninstall iTunes + QT. upon the advice of another post we got a 3rd party uninstaller (Revo Uninstall Pro) and successfully (it seems) uninstalled iTunes + QT. then when we tried to run the installer again we received this error: "an error occurred while attemping to create the directory: "C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\Quicktime"<version#>. I'm no noob when it comes to trouble shooting computers and using the internet and forums for problem solving (however i haven't been in the windows world since XP), but i'm finding little to no info on this issue. Some of the only things i have found suggest permission issue, but it's running under the Admin with the UAC off.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated on this seemingly obscure issue.
    thanks in advance

"an error occurred while attemping to create the directory: "C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\Quicktime"<version#>.
I'm suspecting disk/file damage again, as per the the 2330, rocklebee.
If a disk check isn't cleaning that up, the following workaround might help.
First we'll need to adjust some view settings. (I think ProgramData might be hidden by default on Windows 7.)
    1. From the Start menu, click Open.
    2. In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
    5. Click OK.
Now, in Computer open your C drive.
    Open the ProgramData folder.
    Open the AppleComputer folder.
Attempt to rename the Installer cache folder *Installer CacheOLD.*
If you can rename her, reboot the PC and try another install. Does it go through properly again?

  • How do I update apps under an old apple id email that doesn't exist anymore and have forgotten the password?

I want to update some apps on my iphone but can't because it's asking for an old apple id email that doesn't exist anymore and I have forgotten the password for it!
    Help!!!

The apple id login is never deleted. The emaill address itself can be disabled or not in use any longer. The apple id login will still be available to you. If you will go to the website My Apple Id
    https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
and use the listed apple id login that your apps are asking for to update - once you have changed the password at the lsted website you then will be able to update using the old apple id once you have logged into the device using the old apple id and password.
    Good luck.

  • Windows 7 installation disk doesn't exist?

Hey guys! I am using bootcamp for the first time on my 2011 macbook pro. I go to the bootcamp assistant, then from there I click continue and check off [Install Windows 7] and [Download the latest Windows support software from apple]. After this, I put a CD in to burn the latest windows software. From there, I then created a partition for windows which I put 100GB for out of my 500GB. I then clicked install but it said that my windows 7 installation disk didn't exist. I looked around for a while but then realized that my laptop never came with a windows 7 installation disk. Am I doing something wrong or do I have to go and buy one? Thanks for any help!

Ah that's what I thought. So, I would buy a windows 7 installation disk, put it in, then click install like I did?

  • C:\Programdata\apple computer\itunes

Is it ok to delete them?
    Regards
    JJ

I have been trying to update my iTunes for months and have been unable to.  I decided to delete my old files and attempted to do a new install of iTunes but have now gotten the above msg.  Can anyone help me with this problem keeping in mind that it is a new install?

  • I was fooled by Apple. Worldwide warranty doesn't exist

I had one of the worst disappointments with the service from Apple. My iPhone is presenting a defect and believing that Apple is worried about their consumers and also that my iPhone is within the warranty period, I called Apple Care to solve my problem and all I heard was that there's no way to fix my iPhone in my country, even Apple warranty providing worldwide. Are situations like this that make us think of switching to other brands of smartphones.
    Simply disappointing.

You SHOULD be disappointed, but the target of your disappointment should be at yourself, not at Apple.  The iPhone warranty has never been worldwide, ever.  YOU should have done your research, my friend.  But, of course, it's certainly easier to blame others for our own shortcomings, isn't it?

  • Old versions in Installer Cache

While cleaning up my Dell Laptop, I noticed in Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data .... an Apple Computer/Installer Cache directory. It is > 500 Mb of old iTunes/QuickTime/Safari information. Can I safely clean this out? Do I need to just keep the current version of each of these programs? It's an old laptop with a small disc and I could really use space.
    Thanks.

I've deleted them from my PC.

  • So i connected my ipod shuffle to my apple computer and the status light on my ipod shuffle shows that it is charging but when i look for it on the pc dock or in itunes it doesn't show it at all.... so what do I do???

so i connected my ipod shuffle to my apple computer and the status light on my ipod shuffle shows that it is charging but when i look for it on the pc dock or in itunes it doesn't show it at all.... so what do I do???

If you have not already, I would shut down (power off) your computer.  Do this to Reset your shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Start up computer.  Run iTunes.  Connect shuffle.
If you have added a new USB device recently (since the last time it worked properly), you may want to try disconnecting it to see if that makes any difference.

  • Windows Installer restarted my computer, now iTunes doesn't show anything

I run Windows Vista and have iTunes 9.
While I was sleeping last night, Windows Vista decided to restart my computer. When I woke up, I turned it back on, but iTunes was coming up without actually showing the library or any of the words on the sidebar. The pictures will show up, and when I highlight a certain category, the words will show up, but otherwise, it's blank. Everything seems to still be intact, but even restarting hasn't reset iTunes to where I can actually see it. This is a picture of what I see here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/rupfan01/craaaaap.jpg
I downloaded the install again, but I'm afraid I'm going to lose my library if I run it. Any suggestions?

I haven't seen exactly this before.
I guess if iTunes was open when Windows crashed, something may have got damaged.
There are several thing you could try.
    Try deleting the preference files.
You need to close iTunes and make hidden files visible first.
For Vista the files are called iTunesPrefs.xml and they are in:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    and
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
If that doesn't work try rebuilding your library using the method in the following article. However I would drag BOTH library files to the desktop rather than deleting the itl file - in case it doesn't work and you want to use the old files again.
    Recreate iTunes library instructions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
If that doesn't work you could try a repair install of iTunes. It should not affect your library, but it always pays to make copies of iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Library.xml first.

    Try Here  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
You may need to try this More than Once...
Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
But... if the Device has been Modified... this will Not necessarily work.

  • Hello, I got a new computer with the old harddisk. Can't play my itunes music because not authorised. Apple ID is very old e-mail adress that doesn't exist anymore. When chose for secret question brth date seems wrong. Can't reach anyone!!!

Hello, I got a new computer with the old harddisk. Can't play my itunes music because not authorised. Apple ID is very old e-mail adress that doesn't exist anymore and I forgot the password (5 years old??). When chose for secret question birth date seems wrong. Tried everything. I need to make a new apple-id but cannot connect the music that I bought under my old name to my new name. Can't reach anyone!!! Automatic FAQ system is of no help. What to do?

That doesn't help me. For itunes it brings me to the express lane which doesn't help because my case is not in it. It's all standard procedure things. I understand those but my situation is different. The combination of a passport forgotten and an non-existing email adress (and birth dates that are not correct or not accepted). What I need is my password emailed to another email adress than the original one because that no longer exists.

  • How do I add music from my CD collection to iTunes if my Apple computer doesn't have an optical drive?

How do I add music from my CD collection to iTunes if my Apple computer doesn't have an optical drive to take the music from the CD's to my iTunes library?

    1) Use a different computer which has an optical drive, then transfer the media files to the other computer.
    2) Buy an external optical drive for your computer.
