C-series to ucsm integration

I've read that only Release 1.2(xx) CIMC and BIOS is supported for UCSM integration.. So that means if I upgraded to Release 1.3(xx) and 1.4(xx) then I cannot integrate my c-series to ucsm?

This can't possibly still be the same is it?  I've been trying to integrate a new C200 M2 with the P81e into an existing environment running 1.41m.  The initial version on the P81e was 1.3 but i've since upgraded all firmare on the C200 to the latest (1.41i) i believe.  Anyway, the P81e has CIMC built into it and I can get it to work fine initially, meaning as soon as i set the CIMC configuration to Cisco Card (the P81e), I see the CIMC LED illuminate and UCSM sees the new server, but it cannot inventory the server and as soon as I reboot it, the CIMC LED shuts off.  I'm really frustrated, it seems like it should be much easier to integrate these...
Anyone get this to work?  FYI, is it really a requirement even with the P81e to use and 2248 or 2232?  That would make absolutely no sense, I have 6140's and do not need to nor can I buy 2k's for one C200.

  • UCS C-Series Server discovery with UCSM integration failed

    Hi, i try to install C460M2 and a C260M2 via fex 2232PP
Because we are waiting for delivery of VIC Cards I have to install the Servers via 2 wire.
This means I connected each Server with the 2 LOM gigabit ports to the nexus 2232PP (one port ono each nexus), and I also connected the 10 ge LOM to each of the nexus 2232PP.
My problem is the nexus 2232 are discovered, but no one of my servers get discovered. All Ports have link up, I can not find any log message on discovery error.
I know the 10 GE Server Ports are not supported, but I think the servers should get discovered.
Does anybody have an idea, wherecan I find all logg information and what filter ist suggested ?

    Hi Keny,
I tried to powercycle both servers (c260M2 and C460M2) but still no discovered server and also no logg.
    I checked
Rack Server Discovery Policy == immediate
Rack management Connecton Policy == Auto Achnowledged
    Chassis/Fex Doscovery Policy == 2 Link and Port-Channel (As I installed 2232PP I moved to Port Channel)

2232PP run on same as FI
I also have a connected 5108 with IOM 2104 running on 2.1(1e) Version.
CIMC Version of C260M2 and C460M2 will be checked tomorrow when my kolleague is in the datacenter.
Server Connection is not really the same like in http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c-series_integration/ucsm2.1/b_UCSM2-1_C-Integration_chapter_011.html
Because I still have no VIC Card but the connections are the same.

  • UCS B-Series / FC 6120 / MDS 9513: Setting up FI and B-Series in UCSM

We are receiving FC SAN connections from an MDS 9513 we do not own, within the same physical building. We have been given a range of WWNN and WWPN to create pools in UCSM.
I am not a storage manager, nor much of a systems manager, but I know there are more details to set up within UCSM in order to connect a blade to this SAN. I do not know the details within UCSM that have to be specified, order of operations to perform these configurations. Is there a document within Cisco Support or elsewhare to direct me through the process?

    Hi Steven,
I believe you have already configured the FC uplink ports on the Fabric Interconnect (FI) and done the physical cabling to your MDS? If not, you need to do that first
++ Create the VSANs as required in the VSAN Tab in UCSM, under SAN  Cloud. Make sure that these VSAN's are defined in the MDS.
    Refer to
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/sw/gui/config/guide/2.0/b_UCSM_GUI_Configuration_Guide_2_0_chapter_010110.html
++ Now You need to decide which ports on the FI you will use for the FC uplink and configure it as FC uplink ports from the UCSM. Make  sure that the FC uplink ports are in same VSAN as the ports in MDS which  connects to FI.
    Refer to
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/sw/gui/config/guide/2.0/b_UCSM_GUI_Configuration_Guide_2_0_chapter_0101.html
Check for the FC Uplink ports to come online. This is important. If this is done then you can go to next steps.
Next thing is that create the WWNN Pool and WWPN Pool under the SAN tab. Refer to
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/sw/gui/config/guide/2.0/b_UCSM_GUI_Configuration_Guide_2_0_chapter_011000.html
Now you are all set. Next thing is when creating the service profile, under storage tab, create vHBA's as required, use the WWPN pool and WWNN pool that you created. Again make sure that you select the right VSAN for the vHBA's.  Provide these WWPN details to storage admin and request for the LUN's that you need to be allocated and rest will be handled from the storage admin.
If you need more details you can always go to
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps10281/products_installation_and_configuration_guides_list.html and select the configuration guide, either CLI or GUI according to the UCS version you are running.
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to install to FlexFlash on UCSM-integrated C240s

    My configuration is as follows:
    (3) C240s single-wired to a pair of 6120s, all running 2.2(1d). The C240s have an SD card installed, as well as an SSD and 7xSAS drives for VSAN. I have configured my service profiles with a local disk policy of No RAID, and with FlexFlash enabled. I have applied a boot policy of CD/DVD, and SD.
With these settings, the ESXi installer (5.5u1) only sees the internal 2.5" drives and does not see any of the partitions off the SD card. I've tried replacing SD in the boot order with Local Disk, changed Legacy mode to uEFI, and have poked around in the BIOS to see if I could force anything that might reveal the SD card as a bootable media, all to no avail. I set the scrub policy enabled for FlexFlash and re-acked one of my servers. What am I missing?

    Hi Brad
Are you using Cisco branded sd cards?
If this a Cisco card try the steps below, we must first  synchronize the SD cards before they can be detected. (see attached word document for screenshots)
Create scrub policy to scrub the FlexFlash only
Assign policy to service profile in question
    Re-acknowledge the server in question
Wait for the re-acknowledgement to complete 100% you can check this on the FSM, notice that the server will reboot and the process will require a shallow discovery and a re-association of the service profile. (Note: Step 33 on the FSM will show you the process of the scrubbing of the FlexFlash.)
After the re-ack is completed, disable the scrubbing of the flex flash from the scrub policy
After saving the changes, re-ack the server one more time.
Wait for re-acknowledgment reboot the server, you may also want to press f6 to load the boot option while the server is rebooting, here should see the HV partition

  • Ask the Expert: C-Series Integration with Cisco Unified Computing System Manager

Welcome to the Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This conversation is an opportunity to learn and ask questions about Cisco C-Series Integration with Cisco Unified Computing System® Manager (Cisco UCS® Manager) with Cisco experts Vishal Mehta and Manuel Velasco.
Cisco UCS C-Series Rack-Mount Servers are managed by the built-in standalone software, Cisco Integrated Management Controller (Cisco IMC). When a C-Series rack-mount server is integrated with Cisco UCS Manager, the IMC no longer manages the server. Instead you will manage the server using the Cisco UCS Manager GUI or Cisco UCS Manager command-line interface (CLI).
Cisco UCS Manager 2.2 provides three connectivity modes for Cisco UCS C-Series Rack-Mount Server management. The following are the connectivity modes:
Dual-wire management (shared LAN On Motherboard [LOM]): Shared LOM ports on the rack server are used exclusively for carrying management traffic.A separate cable connected to one of the ports on the Payment Card Industry Express (PCIe) card carries the data traffic.
SingleConnect (Sideband): Using Network Controller Sideband Interface (NC-SI), the Cisco UCS Virtual Interface Card 1225 (VIC1225) connects one cable that can carry both data and management traffic.
Direct Connect Mode: Cisco UCS Manager Version 2.2 introduces an additional rack server management mode using direct connection to the Fabric Interconnect.

    Hello Sebastian,
The different modes of connecting C-Series with UCSM come into play depending on the type of infrastructure you already have along with C-Series and NIC model.
Cisco UCS C-Series Rack-Mount Servers are managed by the built-in standalone software, Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC) .
Powerful features provided by Cisco UCS Manager can be leveraged to manage C-Series server by integrating  C-Series Rack-Mount Server with UCSM.
This not only gives you rich-feature set but also one management plane to operate UCS-B Series Chassis and UCS-C Series Rack Server.
You will manage the server using the Cisco UCS Manager GUI or Cisco UCS Manager CLI.
Cisco UCS Manager 2.2 provides three connectivity modes for Cisco UCS C-Series Rack-Mount Server management.
The following are the connectivity modes:
    •  Dual-wire Management (Shared LOM):
Shared LAN on Motherboard (LOM) ports on the rack server are used exclusively for carrying management traffic. A separate cable connected to one of the ports on the PCIe card carries the data traffic. Using two separate cables for managing data traffic and management traffic is also referred to as dual-wire management.

This mode is recommended when you have C-Server which does not  have or cannot support VIC 1225 card (such C-200 server)
    •  SingleConnect (Sideband):
Using Network Controller Sideband Interface (NC-SI), Cisco UCS VIC1225 Virtual Interface Card (VIC) connects one cable that can carry both data traffic and management traffic.
This feature is referred to as SingleConnect.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c-series_integration/ucsm2-2/b_C-Series-Integration_UCSM2-2/b_C-Series-Integration_UCSM2-2_chapter_011.html
This most recommended Integration model when using FEX and VIC 1225 card
    •  Direct Connect Mode:
Cisco UCS Manager release version 2.2 introduces an additional rack server management mode using direct connection to the Fabric Interconnect.
This mode will eliminate the need for FEX module as Servers are directly plugged into the base ports of Fabric Interconnect

  • UCSM 2.1 Local disk configuration policy and raid volumes

    Hi!
If i use Any configuration as local disk configuration policy and do the raid settings directly to the RAID-cards, am i able to have two raid volumes on C-series under UCSM management?
What i would like to do with C240M3 with 6 local disks: 2 disk raid1 and 4 disk raid0
    So i would use:
"Any Configuration—For a server configuration that carries forward the local disk configuration without any changes."
As UCS servers Raid guide indicates:
"Maximum of One RAID Volume and One RAID Controller in Integrated Rack-Mount Servers
A rack-mount server that has been integrated with Cisco UCS Manager can  have a maximum of one RAID volume irrespective of how many hard drives  are present on the server. "
Is this paragraph limitation of GUI not able to set several volumes or hard fact without "Any configuration" workaround?

I did some testing about this issue:
Changed Local Disk Configuration to "Any Configuration"
Two virtual disks can be created from Raid card's WebBIOS
These disks are visible to RedHat Installation.
UCSM shows Any configuration for the Storage Local Disk policy
Actual Disk Configuration has faulty information - WebBios is the only place to check the RAID status?
Next step: I'll do the same for the production

  • UCSM to C240 - can use old 2248 way or have to use the new 2232 way?

Referring the the fairly well known, but somewhat dated C200 document:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/hw/C200M1/install/ucsm-integration.html
If my customer is ordering brand new C240's and 6296's, and we want to have the 10G ports on the C240 CNA's go directly to the 6296 so they are not oversubscribing like they would if going through a 2232... and use a 2248 for the uplinking of the LOM connections... But it is not clear at all if that method is supported with newer server firmware and UCSM versions.
    -mike

I understand new vs. old, and that the 2248 was 1G...   Does someone have a statement by Cisco saying this is not supported ???
If the customer has a hard requirement to not oversubscribe, and go wire rate, we are limited to 8 servers per 2232, which amounts to them paying $1250 for each of 8 servers up to $10000 for a single server for what is really just a dongle.
even the new adapters still will have to go to the 2232 from what I hear, whereas if they could hook up straight to the FI if they only had a couple of C-Series in their Blade environment... does not seem like rocket science to do a bit of packet manipulation on the CNA or in the FI
Does not seem to follow the mantra of less cabling, complexity, and components of unified....

  • UCS Manager on C-Series Standalone

Is it possible to run UCS Manager on a C-Series Standalone?  I am not able to find any instructions on how to do this.  Solarwinds has said that to interface Orion with the UCS, we need to be running UCS Manager.  But all the documentation I've found seems to show the the C-Series in an integrated fashion with fabric interconnects.  I found the software download for UCS Manager on C-Series, just can't figure out how to implement it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi jhitt-limited,
In order to utilize the features of the Cisco UCSM, you would have to have the C-Series Server configured as a C-Series integration with UCSM.
You can however, utilize the C-Series SNMP capability for monitoring purposes.
    Thanks.

  • Enterprise Integration patterns

I was going through the Martin Fowler signtaure series book, Enterprie Integration Patterns, and found it extremely interesting and thought provoking, so I thought why not start a thread here to discuss the various patterns described in the book:-
    1) Which of these patterns have you used or would like to use?
    2) Where is it that you don't agree with the author and think that a particular patterns as described might add to problems rather than otherwise?
    3) Which ones did you find most interesting and eye opening, I mean when you read them you shouted something like "EUREKA" or DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

OK lets me make the first statement, the most commonly used pattern that I think is Channel Adapter, since we all use it to connect to legacy applications e.g. Screen scraping stuff. Another interesting one that I came across was canonical datamodel. I say that because the importance of CDM becaomes visible only if you are integrating a large no of components. For 2 or three apps individual Message Translators would suffice, though they would not be extensible enough.

  • Monitoring details for UCS-C servers

    Hi,
If I look in the document at the link below, I have the impression that disk failures, power supply failures etc. are not alerted for Cisco UCS-C series rack-mount servers:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/smart_call_home/user_guides/MonitoringDetails.pdf
    Is that correct?
    Best regards

    Hi David,
Whether SCH hardware failure alerts are available for Cisco UCS-C servers depends on how you have it set up.
Is your UCS-C server integrated with UCSM? If so, all UCSM supported alerts are applicable to the integrated UCS-C servers as well. In that case, you can refer to the UCSM alerts section of the Monitoring Details, which does seem to include some hardware failure alerts.
For more information on UCS-C/UCSM integration, check out the Managing UCS-C Server with SCH app note.
If your UCS-C server is not integrated with UCSM, or if the UCSM hardware failure alerts are not what you are looking to monitor, reply in this thread, and I'll see what else I can find out.
    Thanks,
    Kelsey

  • What is "cell revision" and "hardware revision"?

In my system informations, it says
      Model Information:
      Serial Number:
      Manufacturer:
      Device Name:
      Pack Lot Code:          0
      PCB Lot Code:          0
      Firmware Version:          511
      Hardware Revision:          3
      Cell Revision:          1150
What does the hardware and cell revisions mean?

    Albert,
This " limitation " still exist!  UCSM is for B series servers, if by any chance you are trying to know if UCSM can only be used in C series servers, I need to say that C series servers have their own software and it is called CIMC.
In the other hand, C series servers can still be integrated with UCSM and their corresponding fabrics.
Look for "C series integration" and you will find how to use C series servers with UCSM but definitely there is no way to just have your C series running UCSM without Fabric Interconnects.

  • B2B - Cliente e Transportadora

    Abs,
    Henrique.

The TurboBoost Driver is required for Intel i5 and i7 Series Processors with Integrated Graphics on them...This Driver helps in 'TurboBoost' Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) Frequancy....Intel's Core i7-720QM, i7-740QM,i7-820QM and i7-840QM Processors, do not have Integrated Graphics on them...So this driver is not required... And The Processor TurboBoost feature works with Yellow Bang in device manager. Check below screenshot....So you can safely ignore the Yellow Bang for above stated processors.

  • Wireless Equipment for 1 or 2 Km.

    Hi,
I'm trying to connect two places for my customer, the distance is 1 or 2Km.
What model of wireless equipment I can use for this link ?.
We'll have, VoIP, Video and data.
Do you have any recommendation ?.
    Thank you.

First, you can probably use 1242 APs with patch antennas, but if the distance is more than 1km, it will probably not work.
Next is a 1300 series with an integrated antenna. Before selecting this bridge, I would suggest you make sure that there is little or no interference in the 2.4 GHz range at both of your locations (Has only G radio). AIR-BR1310G-A-K9 part number.
Last and best, are the 1400 series with an integrated antenna, we have had no issues with those running at 8 miles. (54mbps 28dBi dish). AIR-BR1410A-A-K9 part number. This is a 5.8 GHz bridge.
For either 1300 or 1400, make sure to order proper length power injector cables and any other accessories:
