C2960S-STACK module in a 2960-X switch

Do the 2960S stacking modules work in a 2960-X?  The stacking cables are the same part #, even though the description for the 2960-X says Flexstack-Plus.
C2960S-STACK - FlexStack hot-swappable stacking module
C2960X-STACK - FlexStack-Plus hot-swappable stacking module
CAB-STK-E-0.5M - FlexStack stacking cable with a 0.5 m length
CAB-STK-E-0.5M - FlexStack-Plus stacking cable with a 0.5 m length

No!
1) 2960-stack moudles fit only 2960s
2) 2960-x fit modules fit only 2960x
3) cables are the same
4) IOS must be the same version. (UPGRADE OR DOWNGADE AS APPROPRIAT
5)  for a stack with both 2960s and 2960x there are two command that need to be entered on the 2960-x...1) change the port speed to 10.  2) change the smd to routing.

  • 2960S PoE switch into a non-PoE stack

    I have two 2960 Stacks
Stack # 1 is a PoE stack with two WS-C2960S-48FPD-L with TenGig uplinks running c2960s-universalk9-mz.152-1.E.bin.
Stack #2 is Non PoE stack with three WS-C2960S-48TS-L running c2960s-universalk9-mz.150-2.SE2.bin.
I need to add an WS-C2960S-24PS-L for additional PoE port capacity. If I add it to Stack #1 I will have three switches in both stacks, and all PoE switches will be part of the same stack. I am just wondering If I can have disparate switch models in the same stack running the same IOS? If I add the new WS-C2960S-24PS-L to Stack #2 I will end up making this stack a 4 switch stack with three non-PoE switches and one PoE switch. If I add the PoE switch to this stack will I have access to the PoE capabilities of that one switch. Again with the question can I have disparate switch models in the same stack running the same IOS?

I am just wondering If I can have disparate switch models in the same stack running the same IOS
Yes.  You can have a different models of 2960S in a single stack.  The main important thing is all members of the stack should have the same IOS version.

  • 2960-S switch firmware upgrade path ?

Hello, I have a stack of three 2960-S switches. They are currently running ' Version 12.2(53)SE2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3'.
Is it OK to do a direct upgrade to 'c2960s-universalk9-tar.122-58.SE2' ? or is an incremental upgrade required ?
I understand I simply upgrade this to the master switch in the stack and it then propagates to the other switches.
Is there anything else important I need to be aware of ?
    Thanks for any advice.

You can upgrade directly to that version of code.  Just be sure to use the archive download-sw command and it will transfer the image to all switches in the stack.  Good luck!

  • Increasing TFTP block size for 2960 series switches

I have read that some Cisco components can increase the default TFTP block size to values greater than 512 bytes by using the command -
    ip tftp blocksize xxxx
This doesn't seem to be available on Cisco 2960 series switches. Is there a way to do this with the 2960's?

I have moved a WS-C2960-24LC-S running LanLite to 12.2(55)SE9 - the current end of the line for this switch - and indeed the command is not present. Sooo....this appears to be a limitation of LanLite.
My predecessor implemented about 70 switches with LanLite. I put a stop to this about a year ago but it is going to take some time to flush them out of the inventory.
    Thanks for your response.

  • Can't tell if a 2960X has a stack module installed.

I'm trying to determine if several C2960X switches we own have stack modules installed.  When I do a show inventory the module is not called out.  I can't find a way to tell if a switch has a module installed without physically looking at the switch.  Anyone have an idea?
I'm pretty sure that site1 does NOT have a stack module installed:

    Hi,
I am trying to connect Nexus 2K FEX to Cisco 2960 IOS Switch (Trunk config) and causing spanning tree loop having issues. I am aware that I should't be connecting non host port to 2K FEX but it's corner case. I have done similar setup with Access Port configuration and didn't faced any issues.

Should I configure port as "spanning-tree port type network" and create VPC and "storm-control broadcast level" to stop future occurrence?  OR Do i have to configure anything else to prevent spanning-tree loops?
    Thanks for your help
    Ritesh

    Hi,
spanning-tree port type network is used for VPC peer-link.  Try creating a new VPC and add ports 107/1/47 and 108/1/47 to it and a Portchannel on the 2960 and test.

  • Low Transfer Rate On 2960-S Switch

    Hi,
I have 2 PCs (1gbps lan card each ) connected to Cisco 2960-S switch.
The bandwidth of all ports on 2960-S is set to 1gbps manually.
However whenever I transfer any file between the two I don't get transfer rate more than 12MBps/96mbps.
Theoretically it should be 125MBps but why am I getting such low transfer rate?
    Regards.

  • Can ws-c2960s stack with WS-C2960X-?

    can ws-c2960s-24ts-l & ws-c2960s-24ps-l ( existing  environment)
stack with WS-C2960X-24TS-L ? since ws-c2960s-24ts-l is going to AEOS.
how many switches can be stack ?

    Yes, it is supported:
    from the data sheet:
FlexStack-Plus is backward compatible with 2960-S and FlexStack. Mixing 2960-X and 2960-S members in a stack is supported. When the stack membership is mixed with 2960-X and 2960-S models, FlexStack-Plus falls back to FlexStack capabilities of 40Gbps stack bandwidth and four members maximum per stack.

  • Catalyst 2960 POE Switch Consumption Mode

    Hi,
I'm curious how I can configure a 2960 to function in POE consumption mode. I know with other switches you can explicitly configure them to only give devices the power they consume and not power based on what class the belong to.
I have read that the following command should do what I need:
    power inline consumption wattage
...although I would have thought I wouldn't need to specify the wattage if I wanted the device to tell the switch how much power it needs.
    Thanks

    Hi,
The "power inline consumption" command is a global config that applies to the entire switch to override the default:
    from the command reference guide
Use the power inline consumption global or interface configuration command on the switch stack or on a standalone switch to override the amount of power specified by the IEEE classification for the device by specifying the wattage used by each powered device. Use the no form of this command to return to the default power setting.

  • FlexStacking Catalyst 2960-X Switches

Just ordered two 2960X switches with FlexStack Modules (and appropriate cables).
Looking at the documentation I could find, was unable to determine one thing.
Do I do the Express Setup before or after I mount and wire the stack.  I know they'll end up being "virtually" one device and will be managed that way.  Documentation unclear about this.

    Okay...
I suspected that was going to be the answer.  Just wanted to hear someone say it.
Will advise once equipment is delivered and configured.

  • Etherchannels from 3560 switch to 3 flexstacked 2960-S switches

    Hi All,
When running etherchannels (x6 in this instance) from a 3560 to a stack of flexstacked switches (in this case 3 2960-S) I have all the etherchannels going to the 1st switch in the stack, for example 1/0/1 - 1/0/6 interfaces.
Should I actually have two cables from the etherchannel group go to the 1st switch in the stack then  two more cables from the etherchannel group go to the 2nd switch in the stack and so on. I was thinking I don't need to as the stack is setup with full redundancy flexstack cables at 20gb I believe it is so spreading out the six etherchannel connections would be pointless?
    Any feedback much appreciated.
    Regards
    Dan

    I was wondering.
Now, a question you might ponder, is whether with your etherchannel of 6 and a stack of 3, whether you'll want 2 links to each 2960S or 3 links to two of them?  I don't really know, although Cisco does recommend for 3750s to not have uplinks on the master, if possible.
