C2D not as bright as CD

I Got a c2d as a replacement for my old CD. Anyone else notice a difference in the display brightness of the C2D as opposed to the CD

I never owned a CD but my C2D seems to have a very dim screen. I keep reading about the how bright these displays are and I'm not in agreement. I have adjusted the brightness to 100%. The screen on my Toshiba laptop is much brighter.

  • 2nd display not as bright as first display

I have 2 facory video cards installed. They're the same (ATI 5770) each have mini ports and aldo DVI.
When I boot up each day at work, the second display won't go to full brightness. USBs are both plugged in and I do get the brightness control levers on the preferences for both displays. However, the 2nd display (at 100%) is just not as bright as the primary display. Both are the same 27" displays; each on their own dedicated video cards. I would say it is about 20% less bright.
Sometimes if I re-boot or reset SMC and monkey with it, I can get it to boot at 100% brightness but lately it's choosing on it's own to be dimmer. Switching USB ports didn't seem to have any effect. I am assuming it's a hardware issue bc I have reset PRAM, SMC, Disk Repair, trashing preferences, and so I'm a little bummed this expensive 27" LED display can't guage it's full brightness.
Thanks kindly for any input / solutions.

To post a hopefully helpful follow-up.. over past couple of days I got it to hold up its full brightness. To restore the full brightness of the 2nd display I disconnected / reconnected the display cable a few times until I noticed it was suddenly matching the full brightness of the 1st display. Is it the 2nd video card? The display? The G5 hardware/software? Can't say.
But after re-booting overnight, it retained the full brightness. Not sure why this happened/s, could be an isolated issue with something slightly defective?? Regardless, maybe this will help someone where both displays are not at full 100% brightness. Replug them a couple times to see if that tricks it back into action.
Remember, my toggles in the display prefs said both were at 100% yet the 2nd display was clearly 20% darker before I got them back to true 100%.
In the end, these LED displays are truely magnificent (aside from my isolated issue).

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
I'll presume that you can adjust the brightness after bootup. If that display preference is kept in PRAM, it's possible that the PRAM battery is wearing out.
Here's what Apple says about what's stored in PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1242
To test that possibility, turn off "Set date and time automatically" in the Date & Time panel of System Preferences (if it's set), shut down and unplug your Mac, then let it sit for a few minutes. When you reboot it, check the system date and time. If the PRAM battery is failing, those may be set incorrectly.
iFixit describes replacing the PRAM battery of an iMac G5 as of "moderate" difficulty. See these pages:

  • Qosmio X770 screen is definitely not as bright as other laptops

I have visited SEVERAL retail stores selling the Qosmio X770 and the X770's screen is definitely NOT as bright as other laptops such as Satellite even other models of Qosmio.
I've compared the X770 against other laptops side by side at several retail stores, and the X770 seems dimmer. I made sure the brightness setting on both laptops were on maximum each time.
I've even opened up Notepad in Windows when comparing laptops and I noticed that not only is the X770 less bright, it has a lower "whiteness level". The white space (eg. in Notepad or when browsing the web) is "less white". The whiteness seems very dull in the X770 compared to other laptops.
I'm wondering if this is a flaw in the X770? I asked each salesman at each store and they said it's "normal", and that it is the way the laptop was designed.
Perhaps as a gaming laptop, they decided not to make it too bright to make gaming more comfortable? If one of the X770 engineers could answer this, i'd be very happy.
I'm in Australia by the way.

    Hi
I dont have the X770 Qosmio but Ive got the U400 and a Tecra A11.
The display of U400 is brighter as the Tecra A11 display.
The point is that Tecra A11 is equipped with different LCD panel.
Type of Lighting is Sidelight, LED and the Brightness NIT (value) at 8 level (highest level) is220.
The U400 is equipped wit other LCD display and the Brightness NIT (value) at 8 level is 250.
So its 30NIT higher then on display using by Tecra A11
The X770 supports the 17.3"(HD+) display and the Brightness NIT at 8 level is 220NIT
So its the same brightness like on Tecra A11 but is dimmer as on display of U400.
But this is not a display fault or hardware problem. Its simply different kind of display.. you know
Personally I like both... both displays have advantages and disadvatages in the usage...

  • No iPod backlight; not the brightness option

No iPod backlight; not the brightness option
Ive read through the board and can't find an answer to this. My classic recently has been working fine OTHER than the backlight not working. Its NOT the brightness option in the menu, its on full. The light will come on if I reboot ipod with center/menu buttons, but will soon be back to not working shortly. I've also tried restoring and while it seemed like it might work, a little while later its back to not working. IDEAS???
    thanks

Sounds like the backlight is burning out, which does happen with most iPods overtime. It's a hardware issue, meaning you'll need to have the iPod serviced/replaced either by Apple or a third party repair company.

    Hello Ayajanna56,
I understand the brightness buttons are not functioning correctly is that correct? I will do my best trying to assist you with this issue.
There actually is a more recent released of bios for your system. Clink this link and installed it and see if that helps. Plug in the ac adapter before the install and make sure to save the download first and then install it.

  • Keys not working: brightness, volume

Macbook Pro 13 inch, Mid 2012
    OS 10.9.5 Mavericks
Processor  2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    4GB memory
I connected an old LG 22-inch monitor via dongle for the first time. It worked well, and then I removed it. Now some keys on my keyboard are not working correctly:
brightness keys don't do anything, volume keys don't change volume and left volume key moves the windows to the sides and back, the right moves the screen image forward and back to the screen with the calculator, alarm clock, calendar, weather. etc. with the circled  + and  -  in left bottom corner, and right arrow at the bottom right....whatever that screen is called. I tried resetting the PRAM, and a soft boot to no avail. There may be other keys cruelly afflicted. thanks

I was told by a tech to uncheck the "use all F1, F2..." box found by first going to Apple Menu System: Preferences. It worked!

  • Backlit Keyboard Certain keys not as bright as others

I just got a new MBP 09, upgraded my old MBP. I am overwhelmed with improvements and speed. I noticed though that the whole keyboard is not lit. It seemed kind of odd and i have since tried searching for the standard, or possibly if anyone else has this same issue. I will post a link to the picture of what I am talking about, but I really noticed it when i put the brightness all the way up and the 7& key was extremely bright while the other keys were not. Im not sure whether this is normal or this is a defect. I thought I would get input prior to bothering the Genius' at Apple. The picture is at full brightness for the keys and half for the screen. With a light on in the room.

    Thanks

My brightest keys are 3,4,7,U,F3,F4,B,N from what I can see. This is at lower brightness. The more you raise the brightness, it's less noticeable.
Part of the reason is that some keys have more area where light can pass through. Obviously keys with smaller symbols won't shine through as bright. And since the LEDs are all glowing at the same brightness, you'll get discrepancy in overall brightness. If Apple took it a step further, they could have maybe governed the brightness depending on how much light shown through the key, and adjusted the final output of light.
But that's getting crazy. I have no problem with the light. I'm a touch typist so I don't even look at the keyboard but for maybe a function key or two. I just use the light more as a guide when I go to put my hands on the home row.

  • MacBook Display Will Not 'Remember' Brightness

Okay, so I finally went out and bought a black one. Since the Core2 models came out, it came to me at a great price.
I'm very happy with it after a RAM upgrade to 2GB and after I turned down the screen brightness. The machine remembered my screen brightness setting until I applied the latest firmware update. Now every time I start (or restart) it, the screen comes on at nearly full brightness.
I find the full on brightness setting to be far too bright (and irritating) and possibly hard on the backlight. What can I do to fix this problem?

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I think that the
option you mentioned is only available on the Macbook
Pro. I have a black Macbook.
If you're referring to the following:
change the screen resolution to something else and back and reboot.
...then go to System Preferences, Displays and in OS X 10.4.8 you'll surely find an option to change the screen resolution (so: NOT only in the MBP).

  • N8 display not fully bright. why?

hey all.. did you guys notice that N8's fully bright display is not that much bright as it becomes when it is placed under some bright light ?
why sensor doesnot allow me to make my display that much bright?
even my n73's display is much brighter than my n8's
    anyone knws the solution ?

    hey there, guys..
i have a similar problem with my n8..
my screen is way too dimmed and i cant change it the way i would like to have it.. first of all, i dont think my display reacts automatically to light/dark environments, its just always dimmed (light sensor in the settings on minimum).. if i go in settings and change the the light sensor to higher/maximum, it stays like that for a while before it, at some point, automatically changes back to minimum... same goes for the light time out ( always changes back to minimum/5 seconds) after a while.. its reaally annoying and i just dont know how to finally change the display settings to brighter, in a way it would stay like that..
    any help??

  • Any ideas on why 4s brightness control won't work (not auto brightness)

Within the past week or so my brightness control stopped working. Restored OS but that didn't fix it.  I suppose it is just broken but seems an unlikely failure when everthing else still works.
I've read all the threads on the auto brightness issues and fixes, but this is not that. The brightness slider does nothing with or without auto control on and in a dark room or full daylight.
Anything else I might try short of replace the phone?
Not a huge issue except for the fact that the already short battery life is reduced by no longer being able to reduce the brightness.

If this is just happening on your home wifi, you might want to try unplugging your router for 15 seconds, then pluggint it back in.  Then on your devices, go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Reset Network Settings.  Note: this will erase passwords for previously joined networks so you'll have to rejoin your wifi again.

  • Can not adjust brightness and minimize and maximize the screen with Fn keys

I have bought a HP 15-D006TU laptop 1 week back. f2 and f3 for adjusting brightness and f4 to minimize and maximize the screen are not working. I am also trying to install the Hotkey driver which is mostly suggested here. but the version available is not supported. Can anyone help me out in this case?

    Hi NIdisha,

  • Iphone 5 home button does not respond, brightness reduces by itself, wont charge and its one week since i got it!

one week since i got the iphone 5: screen blacks out, when i finally get it to light up the light brightness turns low.
problems charging phone, just doesnt want to charge unless i reset the phone.
the main home button does not respond at times, approx 3-5 times a day this occurs
phones touch screen does not respond at times...whole touch screen, no response!
signal always drops out, this could be a network issue though i doubt it.
speaking to quite a few peopl i know, they are havng the same issues with there 5 but not as often as myself.
if i knew the 5 had so many issues i would not have chosen it, the 4s was fine!

Then take it back!  If you've only had it for a week, you still have 51 weeks of warranty.  If you are in the USA, you are also within your 14 day unconditional return for full refund period.  If it has that many problems, just return it and get another one, or get your money back and buy something else.  There is no reason to live with a faulty device after just one week.

  • Lenovo z570 and Fedora 15 - can not adjust brightness.

When I installed fedora 15 on lenovo ideapad z570 all goes ok. but I can not adjust screen brightness. I updated kernel twice upto 3.0.1 but still problem persists.
    Please give me a solution.
    CPKulkarni

This is a known bug in the power manager logic within fedora 15. They are testing the package before it makes officially to the repository.
If you want to try it, out run the following command in the bash shell
    su -c 'yum --enablerepo=updates-testing update gnome-power-manager'
Also try to disable screen dimming via the control center. Hope this helps you out
