C3-01 Contacts sorting and displaying

I have just got a new C3-01 and can't find how to switch between sorting Contacts by Last name and First name.
Also the Favorite contacts option just shows part of surname rather than First name which is useless when several people with same surname are Favorites!
Am I missing something - I am sure there is an options there somewehere but can't find it!
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Ive just got this phone and wondered why the sender's name did not appear in thread message mode. this is the best answer since it solves everything and is nothing to do with your providor or the phone its purely in settings! Best answer. Now the name appears. thankyou.

  • Other apps don't respect Contact Sort and Display order

    I just noticed this on my iPhone 4 and am wondering if anyone else has seen that the Map and Mail apps do not respect the 'Sort Order' and Display Order' settings that are chosen in 'Settings'.
    I'm referring to when you get access to your contacts list when inside these apps (when you are composing a new email in Mail and use the '+' icon in the 'To:' & also when in Maps when using the 'contacts icon' to load an address in the 'Search' or 'Direction' fields.
    On my iPhone 4 these two apps have the Sort and Display order apparently hardwired in that they don't change the ordering when it is changed in 'Settings'. It used to be that the contact list would always update everywhere to respect the odering chosen in 'Settings'. I thought that this must be an OS issue but for some strange reason on my old iPhone 3G that also has iOS 4 on it, I don't see this seemingly incorrect behavior....so at least in my case it is hardware specific.

    1. I have a simlar problem with my new iPhone.
    2. Settings configured to be "Last, First" (both sort&display).
    2a. The Contacts app does not following this setting, but...
    2b. The Phone app contact list correctly follows the setting.
    3. In Settings app, configured to be "First, Last" (both sort& display).
    3a. The Contacts app follows this setting
    3b. The Phone app contact list follows this setting.
    4. Could be that the Contacts app does not depend on the Settings (hard-coded?).

  • DPT-S1 Feature Add Request: File Size (bytes) Sorting and Display in Documents Lists

    Document Lists view should include option to sort by and display file Size (bytes), as in all other file tools.
    That would permit discovery of duplicate files with different names, and trimming out the largest files to save space.
    Thanks!

    Anyone reading this? Agreeing with me?

  • Contact sorting and nicknames

    I am one of those people who has a well organized Address Book so if need be I can print out nice formal address slips or when needed I have all my friends listed by their nicknames.
    Am I not finding the right settings page or isn't it possible at all to organize people by nicknames on the iPhone? I have a lot of business contacts for whom I don't mind having last and first name, but I'd still want my best friend to display by his nickname.
    Thanks in advance,

    hi..jain...
    ROLE MERGING
    If you want to assign two roles to a user but dont want them to appear as two roles,
    you can use the concept of Merging of Roles.
    Here,one can allow the user to see only that role in the top level navigation,whose
    priority has been set as low.Although the contents of the other role are visible too,
    but only n the second level navigation,with the contents of the higher priority role.
    This is done by setting the merge-id of the two roles as one string(e.g. merge), and
    then setting the merge-priority of the role you want to be visible in Top level navigation
    as 99,while setting the other role's priority as 100.
    This ensures that only one of the two (or many roles are visible).
    SORTING is...
    You can define the display sequence of the nodes comprising the various levels of the navigation hierarchy by prioritizing the items on a per level basis.
    You define priorities by assigning a value between 0 and 100 to each item. Values may include decimal numbers.
    The smaller the value of the navigation node, the further left it displays on the navigation bar, or the higher up it displays in detailed navigation. The item with the lowest value appears to the far left or the top, respectively, and the others follow in the order of their priorities.
    thanx..
    rewards points if useful..

  • ITunes Store is slow when returning sorting and display 50+ songs

    Hello
    I frequently have problems whith iTunes Store searche results. For example today, I searched for Pitbull songs, and clicked on "display all" to get the list like display. Then I sorted the  200+ songs by clicking on popularity. Sorting was surprisingly slow. Using the scrollbar was also very slow, sometimes scrolling down continuously just after one click on the scrollbar, and more often laging.
    My laptop has a Dual Core 2 processor @ 2.4GHz, 4Go of RAM, and a high quality WIFI signal, with win 7 64 bits. In addition no other software with high CPU usage were running  in background.
    Does any one have noticed the same problem  ? Any advice to fix this.
    Thanks
    GaBo

    I'm observing the same problem. iTunes is nearly frozen, especially podcasts make the system extremely slow, no downloads possible at all. Opening an album song list is also painfully slow. All this prevents me from buying from the store. Apple should be interested in this. Please note that I'm not using iTunes match!

  • Contacts Synching vs Display/ Sorting

    I recently added a new contact to my Outlook Contacts list, but after synching the iPhone, could not find that new contact in my iPhone Contacts list.
    After checking the usual support pages and this forum, I could not resolve the issue and contacted a very helpful tech in Apple Support by phone. After trying all the usual methods like re-synching, verifying that the iPhone was indeed syching from it to Outlook, and Outlook back to the iPhone Contacts list, we discovered that the problem was not one of a synching glitch, but of how contacts are displayed in Outlook versus how they are displayed in iPhone contacts.
    Here is the problem. In Outlook, new entries are made on the single line for names. But you also have the choice to display that entry in a last name first sort order. When you do, and open up the entry from the Outlook list of displayed last names first, you see the record as you originally entered it, first name first, with the "display as" field sorted to your preference. Among other things, this Outlook feature allows me to use Outlook to chose to sort and display on the sort list individual names by last name first, but enterprise listings by first name first, or by a key word first (for example: I might chose to list an entry for "Verysmall Bank" as displayed on the list of contacts as I will most likely remember it, "Verysmall Bank", rather than as "Bank, Verysmall" but might chose to list my lending officer by last name first "Miserly, Ian."
    When the Outlook list synchs with the iPhone, it does not use the Outlook "display as" field for the name information, but rather, the Name field, which will normally be displayed as first name first, etc. Then, you can chose how to sort and display those names, in the iPhone, using the settings tools under Phone as either as sort order with last,first or first,last and have the same two choices for the display order. But you cannot pick and chose. All entries will be sorted by one way or the other. So, if you want to sort enterprise names by first name and individuals by last name, you're out of luck in the iPhone contacts list. Worse, if you want to display a contact by last name, not only does it appear in the list, but also in the info panel that way (e.g. the list would show: Miserly Ian and in the info panel, the name would also be displayed as Miserly Ian). Then, to sort by last name, you would end up finding Mr. Miserly under the "I" section rather than the "M" section.
    None of this is a big deal with a small set of contacts, but with a huge one, it can be infuriating to have to hunt around for a name and the proper way the name should be show in the info panel. And it may be that if you just added a new contact to your Outlook list and think you have a synching issue with the iPhone because you can't find it, you may only have a display/sort anomally.
    Let's hope, and I would suggest to Apple, that Apple takes care of this issue in the June update. I know that enterprises will want to have their contacts sorted in a more flexible way rather than, as now, from an "individual-centric" viewpoint. I would think it should be fairly simple to allow sorting from the Outlook "display as" field and leave capturing the full info on a contact from the "v-card" as set up in Outlook.

    Thanks for posting this. This issue has been driving me crazy as well, so I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. I believe this problem affects not only new contacts added on the iPhone, but also any pre-existing contacts that are edited on the phone. As a result, I just changed my display setting on the iPhone to "First Last," even though I found "Last, First" much easier to scroll through, because I was so sick of having iPhone alter Outlook's display setting for some of my contacts.
    I also hope this is an issue Apple is working on. And while they're at it (ok, this is an admittedly minor request), I would love to have different display settings for the Contacts list and the caller ID. When I'm looking for a phone number, I want to see the list alphabetized by last name, but when I'm receiving a call I'd like to see the first name first so that's the thing on the tip of my tongue when I answer the phone.

  • Help sorting and library maintenance.

    I've been reading for a while and I can't find any best practices in this realm.
    Ok, so using iTunes 7.5.0.20 (Win) and classic iPod - I'm trying to maintain the library by adding info for a particular Genre, for example, in the filesystem. I'm then expecing that info to get picked up by iTunes on the next sync, but I dont see it happening.
    Of course, it seems to work if I start in iTunes, add info to a column, Genre for example, then it seems to get updated in the filesystem fine. This is not the prefered method, because iTunes has visibility into the song's location on the filesystem ONLY one song at a time. So let's say I have a folder on my filesystem called "New Age" which contains 1000 songs and I want to add them to Genre called "New Age". I can't do it in the filesystem, and I can't see all the songs in the filesytem folder from iTunes (this is a feature in Windows media player "Location", so you can see in the table where your song lives on the filesystem, if you've embedded song info in the directory structure (c:\mp3\rock\doobies\). What's more, is even if I could, I can't sort columns in the device node in iTunes - it's locked on "Artist" and it wont move off, so even if I could sync the filesystem with iTunes, how can I know the information made it to the iPod itself?
    If I had to norrow this down to one question, I guess I'd ask how does one update a file's properties (i.e. change the spelling of Artist name "Stink" to "Sting" on the file system, then have that changed file update in the iPod, so the iPod correctly displays artist "Sting"?
    Otherwise, can someone point me to bulk file updates best practices, so that the iPod gets those same changes?
    TIA
    Jon

    There is very little OO here.
    The first thing you need is a PhoneBookEntry (or similarly named) class that holds the values of ONE of your entries. Then when you load your file in you will populate a List of instances of these PhoneBookEntries.
    Then when you have done that a whole lot of things, including searching, sorting and displaying become much much easier.
    So why don't you start by coming up with a PhoneBookEntry or ContactEntry or something like that class? If you get stuck come back and we'll see what we can do.

  • How do I upload my contacts, calendar and notes from outlook 2007 to my new iPad with retina display

    I just cleaned up my outlook 2007 contact files.
    I have an iPhone 5, a new iPad with retina display, and a PC, which is where the outlook program is.
    I also have an iCloud account
    How do I get the contacts, calendar and notes from outlook to any of these devices, so I can have one synced contact file on all three devices?
    I'm sure I am not the first one asking about this but I am new to Apple, and loving it.

    With your device connected and iTunes open, navigate to the 'info' tab and scroll down. You'll see the option to sync contacts and such from outlook.

  • Sort and view contacts by company

    Our company would like to sort and view all contacts in our iPhones and iPads by company and not a person's first or last name.  From all my research it appears that iOS is not capable of doing this. We consider this very important and would like to know how can we suggest this to Apple?  I understand there may be other apps that allow this, but, at least to my knowledge, Siri does not access them to locate contact info.

    As suggested by Chris, send feedback to the link provided.
    There a work around by changing the name (maybe too much work if you have thousands of contacts)
    example:
    First: John Doe
    Last: XYZ corp
    Company XYZ corp
    First: Peter Pan
    Last: XYZ corp
    Company: XYZ corp

  • Using Display tag library - sorting and Paging

    I have generated a grid using this tag library which has number of in built features. Out of which on is grid sorting and pagination. But this sorts the grid in one page only, not complete grid. Does any one have solution for this? I am trying to get the source code which does this. If any one has solution then please help me..
    Thanks!

    In this case you have to do external sorting insted of defalutsorting provided by dispaly Tag Library. find sample code for External Sorting.
    Follow the Steps:
    <display:table name="testList" {color:#ff0000}sort="external"{color} defaultsort="1" id="empTable">
    <display:column property="id" title="ID" sortable="true" {color:#ff0000}sortName="id"{color} />
    <display:column property="firstName" sortable="true" title="First Name" />
    <display:column property="lastName" sortable="true" title="Last Name" />
    <display:column property="address" sortable="true" title="Email Address"/>
    </display:table>
    To determine the request parameter name for column(like ID) sorting you can do :
    String studenid = request.getParameter((new ParamEncoder("empTable")).encodeParameterName(TableTagParameters.PARAMETER_SORT))
    fire a query in DAO Class using request parameter to get sorted list and map a resultset to table.

    I'm no Lion expert, but I believe you can boot from the Recovery partition by pressing the Command and R keys on startup, then reinstall.

  • Contacts sort/display order options

    Real Android People app allows control over the sort order (e.g., lastname, firstname) and display order (e.g., firstname lastname).
    I can't seem to find out how to set my preference on the Xperia Tablet Z. The app looks really good, but I can't seem to be able to use it the way I use People on my Galaxy Nexus (or on my Toshiba Excite before the XpeTabZ for that matter).

    Figured that was case. Have already replaced/augmented pretty but less functional Sony Calendar and Keyboard with Google versions. Sadly, Google hasn't made a Google People app available in Play Store.
