  • IDE Device connection problems

Can anybody tell me why I can't connect more than 2 devices on my MS-6378 board?  I have absolutely no idea why, but the secondary port doesn't seem to even be usable.  Please, if it's a bios problem, somebody let me know - I'm pretty knew at this, so if you need more explanation of the problem then feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]  Thanks!

Alright, first off, I need to clarify my question.  What I ment to write was as follows:  I have an ms-6380 (not a 6378) motherboard that I am having a problem with.  What I CAN do is hook up two IDE devices to one of the two main ports I have, but for some reason when I try and hook up 4 devices (such as two hard drives on one port and two cd-rom drives on another) then it won't even recognize that the cd-rom drives are there.  However, it will recognize one of the hard drives if I install just one of them.  Also, this particular motherboard came with two other IDE ports - something I've really never seen before in a motherboard (but then again, I'm new at this).  What I CAN do is hook up a hard drive to one, but I can't seem to get the computer to recognize another hard drive if I hook one up to the other port, or even worse, I can't get the computer to recognize BOTH hard drives if I hook them up on the same cable.  This doesn't make sense to me at all.  I've done a little research, and I've discovered that you can only hook up 4 IDE devices on any computer....but if that's true then why would this motherboard have 4 IDE ports, with the capability then to hook up a potential of 8 IDE devices????  Even better, why can't I hook up 4 devices using the 2 normal IDE ports that are pretty much standard in any motherboard (sorry if these 'ports' have a name - I don't know very much terminalogy yet)?
Anyways, here are the specs from what I understand: I have the motherboard hooked up to an Antec 380 watts power supply.  From what it reads on the supply, it can send out 35 amps with 5 volts, 18 with 12 volts, 28 with 3.3 volts, .5 with -5 volts, 1 amp with -12 volts, and 2 amps with 5 volts.
The system has a linksys ethernet card installed into it, along with a simple 8 meg video card I had from a previous computer (AGP).  I have 256 megs of ddr ram, and 3 hard drives installed (primary=20 gigs, primary slave = 10 gigs, and the third has 8 gigs).  I have a standard 3.5 floppy drive installed, and also a 4 by 4 by 24 cd-rom drive installed.
I have it hooked up as follows:  Two hard drives are installed on one of the two normal IDE ports.  I have a cd-rom drive installed on the other one, and a 3.5 floppy drive installed as well.  Because I have two other slots for more hard drives, I have a third hard drive installed on one of the other IDE ports, but no matter what (even if I take away a IDE device, like the back-up hard drive or the cd-rom drive) the computer won't recognize that another hard drive exists if I try and install another one.
Lastly, I have windows XP installed if it matters.
Well anyways, essentially I have two problems, with both pertaining to the IDE ports on my motherboard.  One, I can't seem to get the IDE port that my cd-rom drive is installed on to recognize either the cd-rom drive or anything else I connect to it when I try and install two devices with the same cable.  Also, on the two spare IDE ports on my computer I can't seem to get any use out of the second port.  This problem only seems to occur though when I have one hard drive installed at a time - in other words, both slots (if I remember right) will recognize a single hard drive, but if I have a slot connected to a drive then nothing I do will seem to get the computer to recognize another one on the other slot.
If you can help me out I'd appreciate it ALOT!!!  -Again, if you need more information just let me know by replying to this post of e-mailing me at [email protected] .
    Thanks!

  • Device Connection Problem

So I just installed Flash Builder 4.6 Premium. I am already set up with eclipse hilios, and my device is recognized perfectly. But Flash Builder will not recognize it even though the moto usb driver for the android device IS already installed. I tried toggling usb debugging, and also usb storage. Adobe Air is installed on the device 3.1.0.488. Is there a support channel for evaluation users? Anyone have any ideas?

  • WAP4410N device connection problem.

I just started a new job and recently got my CCNA and CCDA.  I hop into this new job and no one knew information to the networking.  They decided to re-ip the site and they had 3 wireless access points.  I had to hard reset and re-configured the WAP.  All the laptop in the building have reception and can get internet.  If i connect anyone cell phone, wii or tablets to the wifi, it does not connect.  Any idea's from anyone would be appreciated.

    Charles,
Does it connect to the access point and just don't get an Ip address?
Can you set a static ip address and get out?
Are you running vlans on the network?

  • Router connection problems - DISH satellite receivers or too many devices?

(Sorry about that - I thought I had broken the message up.)
I'm having significant issues with my Linksys router timing out, and need help. I'll try to be as detailed as I can.
    I have the following:
    - Linksys WRT54G v3 wireless router I purchased off eBay 3-4 years ago. Using 128-bit WEP secirity. Even though the model says WRT54G, my Linksys setup page says I have a WRT54GL. Don't know if that's pertinent but thought I'd include the info)
    - HP desktop running Vista Home Premium
    - Gateway Solo laptop (circa 3Q 2002) running WinXP SP3, and also have WPC54G - Wireless-G Notebook Adapter
    - Gateway M275 Notebook running Windows XP Tablet Edition w/SP3, internal wireless card
    - Linksys WRE54G Wireless Range Expander, v3
My broadband internet connects to my cable modem, which then runs via ethernet to my router. I have my desktop connected to my router via (wired) ethernet cable (port 1), and the two laptops connect wirelessly. All three computers on my network run just fine and have had no connection issues until I had two (2) DISH satellite receivers installed this past Friday.
Prior to installation, I knew I would need the two receivers hooked up to my network via ethernet cable. Since one receiver was in the same room as my router, it was easy to run an ethernet cable from my router to the receiver (port 2). I had a challenge with the upstairs receiver, because I didn't have a direct connection, and wasn't sure how to wire it. So, I used my range expander by plugging in the expander into a nearby outlet, then connecting the receiver to the expander via ethernet cable.
I had some issues getting a good signal, and did some troubleshooting but made it work. Now I had five devices connected to my router: two with a wired ethernet cable and three wirelessly.
I started having connection timeouts within about 3-4 hours of satellite [receiver] installation. All of the sudden I couldn't connect to the internet on ANY device; both laptops couldn't connect wirelessly, my desktop couldn't connect, and the receivers were telling me my connection was bad. I checked modem but there were no issues. Still, I unplugged the power cable from the modem for a minute, then reconnected - still no internet. I called my cable company to have them troubleshoot the modem, but they pinged it several times & got positive results - still no internet, so I ruled the modem out.
I tried using the Windows connection troubleshooter to repair the problem, and got a DNS error message (which I don't know how to fix). I decided to unplug my router for 10-15 seconds, then plug back in - that got my internet connection going again. That lasted a couple hours & then failed. I unplugged the router again (is that a soft reset or a power cycle?), then reconnected & was able to connect to the internet. This happened a few more times over the weekend, and finally I decided the expander might be the issue (both DISH and Linksys tech support was not very helpful).
I found a way to wire my second receiver via ethernet cable (port 3), so now I had three wired devices, and two wireless devices. I thought this would fix the problem; it didn't, but at least I learned how to wire CAT5 cable. So I got that going for me... which is nice.
I plugged the ethernet cable directly from my modem to my desktop to test the timeout, but had no issues - the modem just wasn't the problem.
I was getting some IP address conflicts on my Norton Inernet Security, so I uninstalled that from my desktop, disconnected the power from the modem, disconnected the power from the router, shut down all devices, reset the IP addresses on the receivers, deleted the wireless connection from the laptops, shut down the desktop, and just left the whole mess alone for half a day. Then I reinstalled the Norton Internet Security, connected my wired devices, plugged the modem in, plugged the router in, reset my security, connected wirelessly with my laptops.
Within an hour my connection timed out.
Trying to chat with tech support wasn't feasible, as my connection kept going out. A guy at work said I shoudl ping my IP address, and let it repeat until my connection goes out. So I unplugged the router and plugged it back in to get an internet connection, the opened a cmd prompt and typed
    ping 192.168.1.1 -t
I left it alone for a few hours, and when I came back, my internet connection was down, but I was still getting active pings - no problems there.
At this point I thought I had done everything except replacing my router (which I'm still tempted to do), but I called my broadband provider to see if there was anything they could do. One of the techs said I had too many devices connected to the internet, but I thought these routers were supposed to handle dozens of devices?
I finally called Linksys Tech Support and had a conversation for 90 minutes. We went through all the steps of unplugging the the modem, router & all connected devices, resetting the router, etc, etc. The only thing different he did was had me change my security from WPA to 64-bit WEP, and added passwords for DNA1 and DNS 2 (same password for each).
That was at 1:30am last night, and when I woke up to check my connection this morning, it was still connected. I have to check it again when I get home, but I'm wondering if I should just be prepared to get another router (and if so, any recommendations), or if there's something I'm still not doing that could resolve my issue - if I still have connection losses.
Also, I'm concerned about the security thing. If changing from WEP 128 or WPA to WEP 64 fixed my problem, I'm not sure I feel completely protected from intrusion - isn't that pretty much the least amount of security I can have (without forgoing it altogether)??
Finally, I've read a few threads suggesting possibly changing to static IP from DHCP; however, my satellite receiver installation documentation specifically advises against this for the receivers.
Anyway, I would very much appreciate some help.

    Hi
I am experiencing wireless connection problem on 4s after ios 8.1 upgrade. The wireless icon appears showing that it's connected but webpages do not load. I have checked my internet connection with other devices and seems to be alright. what to do?
I have tried reseting the network settings and forgetting my wireless connection and re-connecting to it. I even backed up my phone on itunes and restored it, factory reseted it. Nothing seems to work.
Also after my upgrade to ios 8.1 my personal hotspot option under cellular data has disappeared.
Would you please help me out? I would really appreciate it.

    Hi..
Restart your router then restart the iPhone to test.

  • I get an error message when trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro. The message says "windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. I don't have anything connected to my computer. How do I fix this?

I'm trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro. I went through the process of bootcamp telling it to install windows 7. Once the windows boot manager started an error message came up. The error message says " windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. I don't have a usb connected to my computer. I  am using windows 7 professional install disc. I  can't figure out what i am doing wrong. The same message keeps coming up over and over. Am I doing something wrong or is it something else?

Well, shucks, i just spent almost 30 minutes trying to find your model user guide to explain it better, I guess they never got around to making it.....
I would just borrow another Windows disk and try installing it again and if it does it again then you might take it to an Apple Store and see if one of the "Genius' " can figure it out.
Make sure your internet is enabled and click on your blank desktop and at the top of your screen is a Help menu option, enter PRAM and it should give you a list of things relating to Pram. It may take a few seconds to list anything as it has to connect to Apples severs first. It should list the things you may have to fill back in when your done.
"P-ram" stores some common information that is used in the background, your date, time, startup disk, etc, that you don't have to re-fill when you restart, it's a little different for each computer.

  • WiFi (WLAN) problem - in the same room a iOS 5 device connects, iOS 6 not

    Hi all,
I won't say that it's a proof for the iOS 6 WiFi/WLAN problem. BUT, it's evident that my iPhone 4 with iOS 5 sees all WLAN-networks and connects - my new iPad with iOS 6 doesn't! And I'm using the two devices in the same room. In addition my new iPad didn't have connection problems before updating to iOS 6.
Apple Software Engineers - please help and release the next update to fix it

    Hi,
WIFI stopped working after I woke the computer up, now says connected to the network but not the internet, all other coputers and devices connected still with no problems, have pinged IP address from router and got the message "4 packets sent none received"... Help
I have tried network diagnostics which doesnt help... The only other ting is, when I woke the computer up it said tat another device was using my IP... My wife had plugged her phone into the computer to charge etc but even when i turn wifi off on the phone there is no change... also in settings on the phone the IP address is different...

The answer to your question is - neither!
Your PC should to configured to obtain an IP address automatically, and to obtain DNS server IP addresses automatically, from the Airport Express. This is the way Windows (and Macs for that matter) are configued by default, and that is the way most people have their computers set up. If you manually configured your PC's IP address to be the same as your wife's Mac, it certainly explains why your PC is not able to access the internet.

  • Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer

    Hello,
I realize there are other threads with this error, but I've tried all the solutions suggested, and have a few additional notes that seem to be unique to my situation.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L675 laptop and am running Windows 7 64bit.
I restored to factory settings 3-4 months ago (was getting a blue error screen about twice a day).  It ran fine for a month or two, but then started freezing up if I left it idle for prolonged periods of time (10-30min).  It seemed okay as long as it was in use and it wasn't a blue error screen, it just froze on whatever was showing on-screen.
It recently started freezing completely (no ctrl-alt-delete or anything) within about 5 mins of turning it on even when in use.
I tried to restore to factory settings again, but partway through I got the error mentioned in the subject title, and a
    Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred
There are no removable devices connected, no discs in the DVD drive, etc. etc.  I'm very handy, but not necessarily a cpu whiz.  Is there any way to determine if this is a HD issue?  Ram?  I assume if I can narrow it down it's worth replacing a part, but I'm not sure that I want to pour money into a laptop that has little value if I'm guessing at solutions.
Also, I upgraded to 8GB RAM about 2 years ago, but it ran fine until a few months ago so I'm not sure if that could be related or not.
My wife has an identical laptop.  Would it harm anything to swap her HD (or RAM, or whatever you may suggest could be the problem) into my laptop to see if it works?
    Thanks.

There are many models of L675. Do you both have the exact same model number? If so, there shouldn't be a problem doing that. It'd be a good way of seeing if the issue is the hard drive or not.

    Thank you for your response.
I had rebooted the router (several times, actually), to no avail.
I do not know the answer to whether MAC filtering is enabled on the router.  Have tried to find info about that, but unsuccessfully.  Router is an Arris TG852G, supplied by Comcast.  I would be surprised if MAC filtering were the issue, since in addition to the computer, we have successfully connected several other devices to the wifi, namely an iPad, a Android phone and a Kindle Fire - all able to access internet pages through the wifi, and all without a need to add the device to a MAC address whitelist.  To add to the mystery, the Comcast tech was able to connect his iPhone 4 to my network and access web pages.  He was unable to connect my iPhone, however, after trying for some time.
I seem to recall reading somewhere that an iPhone cannot connect to a wireless "n" router, only "b" or "g".  The Arris router is described as a n/g/b compliant router, and as noted the Comcast tech was able to connect his iPhone, so don't know why that would be the issue here.
By the way, my iPhone does connect wirelessly to my network at home.  This difficulty is at a second home.
Any other thoughts would be appreciated.
