C4850 and iMac wireless problems.

Iv'e had a look through all the other threads on this subject and havn't been able to find a solution.
I set up the printer which works fine in the USB, but I can't get it to work through the built in Airport Extreme on my iMac.
I go through the set up procedure for setting up on a wireless network after the software returns the IP settings for the printer I hit continue that tells me the device is not reachable.  I've had a look through all the airport set up screens I can find.  I don't know if the problem is with the airport setup or the printer.  Any help would be appreciated.

Let's try a shortcut. You'll need to know the SSID of your wireless network, the type of security (none, WEP or WPA-PSK) and the if you have encryption enabled, the security key.
First, disconnect the USB cable and reset the printer's network configuration. You can do this by pressing the wireless button, then wireless settings, then scroll down to Restore Network Defaults and press OK. After a few moments, the blue LED will turn off indicating that the radio turned off. This indicates that the printer's network configuration has turned off.
Next, turn on the radio by selecting Enable Wireless. At this point, the printer is setup in Ad-Hoc mode using the SSID hpsetup.
Now, connect to the printer's wireless network named hpsetup. Once you've connected, start Safari, open Bookmarks and then Show All Bookmarks. On the left pane, select Bonjour and you should see the C4850 printer listed. Select this bookmark and the printer's webpage should appear.
Next, select the Networking tab on the printer's webpage followed by the Advanced tab. On the webpage form, enter the SSID of your wireless network, select Infrastructure and the type of encryption. Finally, enter the security key (if necessary) and then select Apply.
If all went well, your Mac will disconnect from the printer's wireless network hpsetup as the printer connects to your home's wireless network. Reconnect your Mac to your home network.
Last step is to create the print queue. Go to System Preferences, Print and Fax and press the plus sign to add a new printer. You should see the C4580 listed. Select this and the Mac should find and add your printer.
You now have basic wireless printing setup. If you want to scan from your Mac using the C4580, you'll need install the HP printer driver that you can download from www.hp.com
I hope this helps.

  • IMac wireless problems

I bought an imac this week and i've been having trouble connecting it to my wireless network at home. When trying to connect to it i get a "connection timeout" message in mac OS X, and i get a "windows was unable to connect to [insert SSID]" when running Windows 7 through bootcamp.
However, if i go into my router settings and change the channel or password i can then connect to the network from my iMac, but the problem arises again once the router has been switched on and off. I connected to my neighbours network without any problems and i can do so after he has turned the router on and off, so this makes me think it's a problem with my router more than it is with the iMac.
Any ideas what the problem may be?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Ethernet source ( business class) : Power book-imac wireless problem.

I need to set up my system as follows . Imac takes the ethernet feed and over airport and connects to my power book.
Imac one year old. Powerbook this week.
I had this working and then lost it twice. I want to maintain security , firewall and stealth switched on.
What did was set up airport on the imac to broadcast , having chosen a network name.WEP password established.
This I choose on the power book. Wrote in the machine pw and the wep and I was running just fine.
After power down power up , I went back and can't find the wireless signal.
I believe this might be the firewall switch , after messing with that I lost my connection. I could swear that I was working with stealth on just fine.
    Any help. Thanks.

Hi Lensmith & welcome to the forums.

  • Mountain Lion and Airport Wireless problem.

I have a Mid-2009 Macbook pro that was just upgraded to mountain lion - every time I close the lid it knocks all wireless devices off the Airport until I unplug and replug in the wireless to reset it.  If it naturally goes to sleep by timing out, it does not affect the network.  Any solutions?

Could you try going to System Preferences > Network and deleting your AirPort network interface, clicking "Apply", and then adding it again and see if that helps?

  • Problems with wireless printer set up for Macbook Air and iMac

I'm not having success in setting up  my Macbook Air (2012 ML version) and iMac wirelessly to a new Epson 837 printer. I've tried darn near everything and am coming to the conclusion that perhaps it's a router issue. Are there known issues with the Netgear N600? It's supposed to be Airprint compatible but yet my ipad and iphone doesn't recongnize either.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Yup, and since all your devices can probably access the Internet and other services over the router, you may want to study the printer's manual or use other Epson resources to figure out why that thing can't be talked to.
Oh, did I mention that already...?

Just for a recap... This problem happens anywhere I go, basically when I'm not in the same room as the access point. I've tried dropping AirPort from the configuration pane, I've changed the MTU, I've flashed the PRAM more times than I can really count.
I'm not that great with the internals of these things but maybe one of you knows what exactly the error codes mean.
I've also tried using the wireless under bootcamp in Windows XP, I have the same problems. Last night I tried the latest Ubuntu Live-CD installer and the wireless problems persisted, so I'm guessing something in one of the updates messed up the hardware.
Can anyone else try to replicate this?
I called the nearest Apple store and the Genius I talked to said that I was the first time he had heard of this problem. Anyway I figure it might be useless but I'm going to make an appointment with them and try to replicate the problem in-store.

Don't pay any attention to anything you see here or on the rest of the Internet, especially when it concerns Apple. What looks like "a ton" is really only a handful of people. And you have no idea what they have done to their machines. There are several million other people who have no problem at all or are smart enough to diagnose a hardware problem on their own and take it in to Apple.
What you have already done in this thread is much, much better information than the average "me too" post you will find. No one posts diagnostics. No one makes an attempt to diagnose the problem. No one make an appointment to have Apple look at the machine. I've seen it over and over again. They just want to rant.
I suspect you will be up and running while all the "others" are still ranting.

  • My iMac is not staying connected to my wireless internet. Any suggestions?  My provider says it's a computer issue and not their problem.

My iMac is not staying connected to the wireless internet.  My provider tells me it's a computer issue and not their problems.  Any suggestions?

Please test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 2
Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. If you find that Wi-Fi works better with Bluetooth disabled, you should use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. Your router may not support it; in that case, you need a new router.
    Step 4
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
    Reset the PRAM.
    Step 7
Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    Step 8
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • MacBook Pro and iMac keep losing wireless internet connection.

Greetings all, two weeks ago I purchashed a MacBook Pro and iMac and they've worked fine, except for the internet. The wireless randomly goes out, but the airport bars remain. At first I thought it was just pages having trouble loading because of the OS (stupid I know) It's been happening more and more frequently and the only way to solve it is to turn the Airport off and then on which allows the internet to reconnect. My wireless router is connected to an HP an the router is a Dlink 1310 wireless G router. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi all,
It seems I am not alone. There is a very strange problem either with my brand new unibody MacBookPro 17" or the Airport Extreme I am using to connect to the Internet via a cable connected router. The router I am using is Billion 7300 and works fine, and I can even connect to the wireless access via the router and all works fine. I am using Airport Extreme to extend the access area in my house and also use a USB drive for storage attached to the AirportExtreme. The funny thing is that the first couple of weeks I had no problems with the MacBookPro going on the Internet via the Airport. At that time I had the wireless part of the Billion modem disabled so as to avoid possible interference. Suddenly, one day about a week or so ago, the MBP would connect first time to the wireless Airport and to the Internet for only about a few seconds and then no update on any of the web pages. I was suspecting first my ADSL, but that was all along OK. The signal strength to the Airport is strong, but just the connection to the Internet is no longer available. Strange thing is I have in the same room a 24" iMac and this is still connected to the Internet via the Airport with no problems. Same settings on both! I tried everything I could think off on the Airport, tweaked, changed, reset and created new connection - but without any luck. It is as if the Airport decided to just block the MBP for whatever reason. I also have the Little Snitch, which I disabled too.
I was hoping that the latest Leopard 10.5.7 would have a fix for such a behaviour, but no change.
I cannot make any conclusion as everything contradicts: if the MBP wireless has a problem, I wouldn't be able to connect to the Billion wireless; if the Airport is at fault I should not be able to connect to it with the iMac. I go to work where other two brands of wireless hot-spots I use (D-Link and Billion 7402) and I have no problems swicthing between the two. It seems only Apple's Airport is a problem for my new MBP.
It must be something in the software of the Airport or MBP ?!?!?
APPLE, PLEASE HELP, THIS IS ANNOYING.
I already spent three days trying to solve a problem that should be 'No Brainer" according to the Apple's design books. But I do have a problem that I did not know about before.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

  • New iMac wireless keyboard and magic mouse dropping connections

Hi looks like I am just another one who's got problems with Apple's wireless keyboard (KB) and magic mouse (MM).
I bought my iMac 21.5 at the beginning of last Dec. For the first few days, I noticed that the connection between MM and iMac dropped perhaps once a day when I was editing some HD footage in iMove 09. I am rather new to Mac so initially I thought iMove was dominating CPU power hence the temporary drop.
But in the next few days, I found my MM dropped connection a bit more frequently like 3-4 times a day, during word processing, browsing in Safari or even when I am doing nothing. Plus I also noticed that the KB began to have the same problem as well. Well, in all cases the communications resumed almost instantly or shortly after I clicked MM or a button on the KB. It's only the on-screen notices are very annoying....
The situation got worse in the final week of 2010, the connection (both MM and KB) dropped more frequently and sometimes communication didn't resume instantly, instead the Bluetooth Setup Assistant pops up searching for available devices....and then finally connected. Annoyed by this I took the MM to the retailer and swapped for a brand new one (from a boxed iMac), came home and hey! problem solved! but just for a MERE few hours.
On the last day of 2010, after a couple "rounds" of drop-and-reconnect I was hit by the "Bluetooth Not Available" problem after a connection failure. Left it for some moments and no sign of recovery at all! Luckily and ironically I plug in my wired USB Microsoft mouse so that I can still navigate, went to System Preference and found the Bluetooth icon disappeared as if no Bluetooth hardware was ever installed at all! OK, turned off the iMac from the menu, waited and restarted. No joy and scary enough, I can't even get into the system coz I got log-in enabled but without a working KB to enter my password. Without a choice I dug out my netbook PC, arrived in this forum and found I wasn't the only one. Followed instructions here, did a SMC reset, PRAM reset, etc then magically everything is back! Once back in, I deleted the plist, deleted devices, restarted, re-favourite MM and KB, etc. The next day, I use the installation disc to perform a hardware check, but no problem found!
But always a but, the problem still persists, so a call to Apple technical support who suggested literally the same thing I've done above and asked me to monitor the problem in case it needs repair. Honestly, I am not keen to do that as the nearest Apple centre is far from me and always busy. Not sure if anyone here can shed some lights on my problem. I needa ensure all channels are exhausted before I bring the thing back to Apple for an inspection as a last resort...
    Many thanks guys

Hi, I post this because this is very similar to what is happening with my new 27in Imac.
Townsville March 05 2011 bought all singing and all dancing 27inch IMac with wireless KB and MM at new reseller grand opening. Straight forward out of the box. First night a kernal panic message and screen shut down and unable to start. Phonecall to apple care got it restarted with the apleoption+pr keys. Fine for a while, then repeated screen freezes watching eye TV.
Persevered, with similar repeated screen freezes. Reset memory for eye TV. Seemed to fix that problem, but during this time also noticed MM and KB were disappearing and not responding, only to come back by frustratingly turning them on and off, waving them near the imac and even turning the imac off and on manually, to have them come back for a while and even dragging out a cable mouse to navigate. Cut a long story short, I hoped it would sort itself. 20 days later while watching eye tv I noticed the mm and kb drop off. Cable mouse found the BT issue you guys have discussed. System Preferences showed no BT at all. Rang apple care. Went through the same drill and identified a hardware problem with BT which should be replaced, and after discussion about the other issues, suggested a replacement would be within range but to talk to the store, cause it was so new, took it back to store where my story was confirmed in a confirmation of the customers story check.....for a while.....
then all reappeared as if nothing was wrong, fortunately it was witnessed by the store, so off it went to Brisbane for the 4 day turnaround. Wednesday the tech rang BT MM and KB all working fine. Further explained all the above, so he has stress tested it and I am informed it is has displayed none of the bad behaviour and is working well and on its way home, hopefully by monday. So will keep you posted. No new mac offered, no replacement BT module offered.
PS I have only ever owned macs, still love them, and scripting this on my mac book, which incidentally, has never missed a beat.

I've been having the same issue, but have just discovered something on my own that hasn't been pointed out in any of the forums I've visited.  In what I thought would be a vain attempt to help myself, I went to System Preferences, Users & Groups, and then clicked on Login Items.  I discovered that one of the Items that was listed to open automatically upon login was iTunes Helper and that there was an exclamation point beside it indicating that it was incompatible.  I simply deleted that item and now I don't have the situation you described and my wireless is connected.  Hope this helps!

Intel iMac; upgraded adobe flash; bluetooth keyboard no longer pairs but magic mouse still OK. With Bluetooth switched on the screen splits into 4 areas and open windows seperate and shrink. Switch off Bluetooth and problem disappears and iMac works OK with plug-in keyboard and mouse

    Hi, Derek -
...the screen splits into 4 areas and open windows seperate and shrink.
Sounds like Spaces is being activated somehow. With the wired keyboard and mouse in use, select the Exposé & Spaces control pane in System Preferences, click the choice in that pane for Spaces. See what the settings are. There are some activation settings in that pane - by default, F8 activates it.
It could be that the bluetooth keyboard has some stuck keys and is activating Spaces; or that the activation command has somehow been reset to something that the bluetooth mouse, or bluetooth itself, is triggering.

    Hi
My USB CF (Compact Flash) Card reader is not mounting on my 2.5 GHZ Intel Core i5 iMac anymore.
Last week it worked fine to get pictures from my camera but now it won't mount at all.
I ejected it in the correct way rather than just disconnecting it but now i cannot get it to remount!
I cannot even see it in the disk utility or system profiler.
I have tried another card reader (a brand new one bought today) and the same problem exists. I've also tried different cards to see if that made a difference and they still arent being picked up on the Mac.
I have done all the usual things like rebooting, unplugging all other USB devices and then trying but nothing has worked.
I'm a photographer and I'm at my wits end here. I know the cards are fine as i have been using them without issue and they are also new.
Note: If I plug the camera in directly to the Mac, the Mac picks it up just fine as it always has done. Its just the card readers that it wont pick up anymore.
If anyone has any ideas at all other than the following (my so called friends advice) you'd earn my undting love:
    Buy a PC
Use the camera (Thats why i bought the reader in the first place - importing RAW files from the camera is SLOW!)
Replace your CF cards (I have three 8GB cards two of which i had never used til today and they dont work either!)
Buy a new card reader (this is the 5th one in two days - none work on the Mac)
    Many thanks in advance!

OK, restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one or more is corrupt. To restart in Safe Mode when you hear the start up tone hold down the Shift Key until you see a progress bar. Let it fully boot then restart normally and test.
Also I am assuming you have checked Finder - Preferences  - General and see what boxes are checked in "Show these items on desktop." You can also mount an item in Disk Utility, simply highlight it and then look in the File menu for Mount.....
