C5280 Print Margins

Whether copying a photo or printing from the computer, when printing to a full 8 1/2 X 11 sheet the printer adds an almost 1" wide white margin on the top and right side of the printed photo.  I can't figure out how to get it to print using the full page.  Help anyone?

Thanks. I have noticed when I change printers to a standard printer then back to the star receipt printer that default values change. They are still not correct but they do change. Unfortunately this "fix" is not practical in the real world. The browser needs to work the correct way all the time to allow the staff to print receipts without having to configure it each time (or each time launched). Also, in my case the print dialogue is scripted and one would never get the chance to preview the page and set margings, etc.
I do hope this is addressed for the final version. Mac Safari 3 does work with this but I run everything from a windows machine at the business. This Mac compatibility gives me hope the Windows version will step up as well.

    Firefox has a profile folder that has preferences to save this. But the config that would need to be changed is:
    print. save_print_settings = True - (default): Save the print settings after each print job
    Locking that preference: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences]
    Or done manually:
    #In order to check the margins, we need to go to ''File'' > ''Page Setup''.
    #Once this is done, switch to the ''Margins & Header/Footer'' tab.
    #Check what's set there under ''Margins''.
    The following are the default values for ''Margins'':
    Check these values accordingly and change them if necessary.

  • Problem with Printer Margins

    I am working from a Dell Optiplex 755 with Windows XP, Illustrator CS2, Acrobat 8 Pro and an HP 4345 printer.
    The problem is summarized in the below paragraphed points:
    We print on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper, with artwork sized for 8.5 x 11 exactly. The artwork contains 4 quarter page images to be cut into flyers, which each have 1/4" margins all the way around them. There is a back side as well, created with the same specifications. We wish to print these flyers duplex from high quality PDF files that we created in Illustrator.
    When the print comes out, the right hand margin of the sheet is larger than the top, bottom, and left margins.
    The top, bottom, left margins= 0.166"; this doesn't effect the top, bottom, and left sides of the artwork, as the .25" margin we setup on the artwork is greater than the .166" margin of the print area.
    However, the right hand margin= 0.306"; this means that the right side of the artwork gets cut off by .056" (.306-.25")
    In order to fit all of the artwork on the page, we can either shift the Page Tiling Print Area over slightly, or we can select the print option "Shrink to Fit". However this is a problem because we are printing the two sides as a duplex (printed both sides), and the tiled artwork on the front won't line up what is printed on the back because of the larger right margin. Therefore if the sides don't line up when we go to cut, the information is going to be cut off on the opposite side to the one we are cutting.
    The printer setting for 8.5x11" paper "Letter" is what we believe to be creating the offset margin. (We checked the specifications for a Letter print, and the standard margins were identical to the ones we see exhibited in the print outs, 0.166" vs. 0.306")
    We understand that there might be a way to set up your own custom print setting through Adobe Acrobat/ Photoshop/ Illustrator for a specfic type of print job, allowing you to control the print margins, but we are not familiar with the process.
    Can you think of any other possible causes and/or solutions for the problems that are described?

    As is detailed above, I am working with Illustrator CS2. The graphic is setup on an 8.5x11" artboard with guides set to have a 1/4" margin on all sides.
    To create the PDF file, I just do a Save As>Adobe PDF through Illustrator. So to answer your question, no, I do not have Adobe PDF selected as the printer. I have the HP 4345 printer selected and set to 'Letter' for printing on 8.5x11" page.

  • Cartridge H351XL doesn't work in C5280 printer !!

    I bought a C5280 printer in the US 2 years ago (I lived there at that time). I used to buy 74X and 75X cartridges for it without any problem. Then when I was back to France and with no more X75X cartridge in my pocket, I tried to search it without success, apparently in France the only one available for this printer is the H351X ! But this one seems not working !! This message is shown: "Incompatible cartridge". But I'm sure this is the one that HP recommend for this printer at least for France.
    Is there a new driver to install as I change the country ???
    Is someone can help me ??? Thanks in advance

    Did you get an answer from HP? Could you send me an email to tell me the procedure to follow to change the country code? I haven't received any call from HP after my talk with Bob 4 months ago.
    I think all this online "help" is just to try to maintain the image of HP.

    When I sent you a request for more information back on 3/25/2012 I suggested that if you had not heard anything within a week of sending me the information that you should let me know so I could follow up.  Today was the first I have heard your problem was not resolved.  I will remind my contact at HP once again.
    Getting the information from another user would not help.  The reset procedure requires some specific information from your printer and the codes from another user will not work.

  • How do I set the default print margins for ALL printers in mozilla.cfg

    How do I set the default print margins for ALL printers in mozilla.cfg, even ones that are not yet installed / connected to the computer?
    I'm trying to install firefox with MDT and apply certain print options, but the printers themselves are connected at a later stage so the print.printer_myprinterhere cannot be used.

    Best answer I could find: [https://mike.kaply.com/2012/03/16/customizing-firefox-autoconfig-files/#comment-132668]
    If you can figure out how to add the printer name, this can be used to lock the margins.

  • C5280 prints black page when copying and scanning

    Can anybody help please.
    C5280 prints a black page when I want to copy or scan but it prints ok from the computer. The light seems to be working on it. I am unable to reinstall with the disc as the CD drive is not working now. Does it need to be reinstalled.
    Thanks for any help possible.

    Hi @Dani77 ,
    I see by your post that you are getting a black page when copying and scanning from the printer. You can print fine and you updated the HP software, the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet and you have the same results.
    I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue.
    I wasn't sure whether you just updated the printer software on the printer or the firmware.
    If you haven't already, please update the printer's firmware. HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer Drivers.
    Disconnect the USB or Ethernet cable from the printer.
    Make sure the printer is still connected directly to a 3 prong wall outlet.
    Try making a copy with a blank sheet.
    If the output is blank, then try and copy a text document.
    I will send you another step to try in a private message.
    In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.
    How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet)
    Please let me know the outcome.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • How can I set printing margins of report?

    Hello,
    I am trying to print programmatically a portrait of a JPEG image that has been created by a Front Panel.
    I print it by creating a Standard Report.
    While the JPEG image is fine, the printed image is compressed at the long edges. So, the printed image is a little bit distorted.
    I change the Printing:Margins Property of the vi at the First Call of the vi, but the result is the same.
    On the other hand, if I open the JPEG image with a program like Picasa and print it, the printing image is not compressed/distorted.
    I attach an image of the code that is used to print the JPEG and an image that shows the Printing:Margins Property.
    How can I print it correctly via LabVIEW?

    Hello,
    I tried the solutions that you proposed and I have the following results:
    1. The solution to print the Front Panel through the invoke node of the vi's reference is not ideal, because the desirable printer cannot be chosen.
    2. I cannot use the Word Report because I have not the Report Generation Toolkit for Microsoft Office.
    3. I used the HTML Report and I change the print settigns by modifying the registry keys in the following folder:
    "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\PageSetup"
    I can change the margin_bottom, margin_left, margin_right, margin_top, Shrink_To_Fit and assign the values 0,0,0,0,no to them.
    The result in the printing image is obvious. It is no longer compressed and it is positioned almost according to the margins. Although all margins are set to 0, it has to be positioned 2cm more at left and about 2cm higher to be proper.
    But the footer and header registry keys even if they are deleted (I cannot assign empty string from command line), they are appeared in the printed page.
    I attach the new vi files that modify the registry keys of the above folder before printing and restore them after printing.
    Also, the Front Panel size of the Report.vi has been changed and set equal to the A4 paper size 21x29cm and a little bit bigger in order not to print the decoration border.
    So, the problem of proper printing of HTML report remains having only to remove the footer & header and understand why the printing image is not positioned at full left and full top even if the registry keys margin_left and margin_top are 0 and 0.
    On the other hand, if the vi's Front Panel JPEG image is printed from a Photo-program, it is printed correctly given that the margins are set to 0 and the "Scale" option has been disabled.
    Thank you very much for your help.
    I am looking forward to hearing from you if it is possible.

  • How do I change the print margins in firefox 4.0 in ubuntu?

    When I upgraded to Natty (Ubuntu 11.4), I was automatically upgraded from firefox 3.6.x to 4.0.x
    I want to change the print margins, however when I go to File > Page Setup, it only gives me options for changing the paper size and orientation. There is no longer any sort of tab or option for margins, header & footer, etc.
    Am I missing something or is firefox?

    Try this:
    EDIT:
    * Goto about:config
    * Look for print.printer_<PRINTERNAME>.print_margin
    * change those to what you want :D
    * Restart the browser.

  • Mail 2.1 - Printer margins

    We recently switched from Eudora to Apples Mail app (version 2.1). The first problem we have yet to solve is that of the overly large print margins at the top and bottom of each page when printed. The margins are close to 1-1/4 inches (3.2 cm).
    There appears to be no user defined settings that we can find via Page set up.
    We are using standard US letter paper size. All other applications print fine (i.e approx 1/2 inch margins). This happens regardless of what printer we choose, including PDF)
    Is there anyway to control the size of the margins for the the standard paper sizes which print perfectly in ALL other applications, other than Mail?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Any ideas? Anyone?

  • Print margin

    I noticed that everytime I print in Mail, the gap on the top margin is almost 2 1/2 inches. Is it just me or is this a common problem for everyone. I tried setting the print margins manually, but still to no avail. Is this problem fixable or do I just have to live with it? It's not that bad, but emails look really weird with the big gap for the top margin.
    Thanks

    I'm having the same issue. Does anyone know how to control the print margins in Mail.app? Selecting custom margins in the print dialogue box does not work at all.

  • Printing margins

    Hello!
    I'm having a hard time trying to configure the printing margins with java.awt.print. I know that there are physical limits and a minimum margin that needs to be respected, but I can't seem to get anything different from 1 inch!
    To detect the mimimum margins, I use:
    PageFormat format=new PageFormat();
    Paper paper=new Paper();
    format.setPaper(paper);
    paper.setImageableArea(0D, 0D, Double.MAX_VALUE, Double.MAX_VALUE);
    PageFormat mformat=job.validatePage(format);... mformat now contains the minimum margins and printable areas. With that I get the value 12 for the X and Y margins.
    When I configure the print margins with those values, using:
    PageFormat jformat=job.defaultPage();
    Paper jpaper=jformat.getPaper();
    jpaper.setImageableArea(mformat.getImageableX(), mformat.getImageableY(), width, height);... the PageFormat that is passed in my java.awt.print.Printable implementation always has 72 for the X and Y margins!
    Does anyone have a hint on what I might be doing wrong? Thank you very much for your attention, cheers,
    AP

    Did you realize that PageFormat#getPage returns a copy and that you need to call PageFormate#setPage to actually change the page?
    This,
    import java.awt.Graphics;
    import java.awt.print.*;
    public class PrinterTest {
        public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception{
            PageFormat format = new PageFormat();
            Paper paper = new Paper();
            paper.setImageableArea(0.0,0.0,Double.MAX_VALUE,Double.MAX_VALUE);
            format.setPaper(paper);
            PrinterJob jb = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob();
            format = jb.validatePage(format);
            jb.setPrintable(new Printable() {
                public int print(Graphics graphics, PageFormat pageFormat,
                        int pageIndex) throws PrinterException {
                    if(pageIndex > 1)
                        return Printable.NO_SUCH_PAGE;
                    System.out.println(pageFormat.getImageableX() + " " +
                                       pageFormat.getImageableY());
                    return Printable.PAGE_EXISTS;
            },format);
            jb.print();
    }prints out

    I can set margins in other programs (like Photoshop, Word, Excel, Firefox, Chrome...), but there does not seem to be a setting for margins when printing from Preview. I don't want to resize the image, just get it to print in a certain position on the paper (template form).
    In the case of Photoshop, you are placing an image on a canvas and can position the image to suit. Word and Excel have a Page Setup menu that lets you set the margin positions - which know since you have got the output you wanted. There is no Page Setup menu for most, if not all, Apple applications like Preview. Instead parts of the Page Setup menu have been added to the print dialog but margins is not one of them.

    Understood. Unfortunately you don't get that option in Preview. The image will be centred - both horizontal and vertical - based on the paper size and the printer you have selected in the print dialog. You could create a custom paper size with the margins you want to position the image and then use that custom paper in Preview. But your workaround of using Word gives you more control over the positioning of the image.

  • Default printing margins

    I'd like to change the default printing margins and image position. Currently the default is center. I'd like to change the default to 0.5" on the left and top.

    I have spent a lot of (frustrating) time trying to sort this out and to research it.... Finally gave up and then... Eureka, I figured out a good solution...
    Print the file (using what Elements gives you) as a PDF file... Once you have done this you can open it up in Word (or other software I am sure) and then play with margins to your heart's content....  I also found some other neat things in Word to help with frames, borders, etc.
    Good luck
