That is the easy bit. Just select the voice you want from within Ovi Maps. If it is not already installed it will go online to download and install it. You will have to set Ovi Maps to Online to do this. Use wifi to avoid data charges if you don't have a data plan.
IT"S not so easy bit!!!
The russian voice for auto navigation is present - BUT for pedestrian navigation is absent!!!
No russian voice with street names!!!!!!!!!!!!
The many countries with small population has voice with street names but Russia with 150 millions population does not have voice with street names at now!! Only one stantard voice!!!
The Nokia already known about this situation and say me that send this is info to Navteq and Navteq work on this... but so many changes and so voices with street names present for other countries but for Russia no even now... It's shame for Navteq/Nokia and too big disrespect and not understanding the market situation... In Russia many people bay the Nokia product and at even now Nokia has ~30% on market in Russia!!!

I have just bought a new C5 because of its maps and navigation features and am having the horrendous problems trying to download additional maps. The only one it comes with is for central/northern europe. I have tried using OVI suite downloaded onto my PC (Vista). That doesn't work. (Could it be that this automatically loads software for the S60 handset?).
On first using OVI Suite you do have to accept any prompts to accept synchronisation software onto device.
Irrespective of whether you can't get OVI Suite or Nokia Maploader to work you can always download Europe.zip using links in this post by ovikovi here and then decompress:

That said it is a lot easier to overwrite E:\Cities\diskcache folders  0 - 9 and a - f using Windows PC as a bit more convoluted if using Mac although requires use of "Terminal" to merge folders.

  • Ovi Map Suite Has Update Available For Phone

    Good Eve,
I have an New Nokia C-6 phone, when synced with ovi suite it stated that there is an new maps update available. The update is 315mb but my phone only carrie +- 250mb internal memory. I cannot save the maps update on the mem card it want to be saved on the internal mem.
How can one update it if memory is not enough in the first place......
Did nokia not take this in notice?
Lead, Follow or get out of the Way!

Puzzled a bit here, are your current maps on phone memory or memory card? Whilst in OVI Maps > Spanner icon > Map > Memory to be used - can select here but only changes after re-starting application.

  • Ovi Maps Compatability Guide Updated for Maps 3.04

I think a lot of people have a hard time figuring out which version of maps they should get and where they can get it from, so I made a chart and stuck it on a Blogger page. I hope everyone finds it useful.
    Ovi Maps Compatability Chart

The interface looks primed for WP7. Just add a huge "Maps" text on the top and the old Ovi Maps world map background. LOL.

Helsinki - Nokia made a breakthrough by offering maps and GPS navigation service is completely free for users smartphone. Step the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer makes the GPS industry players stressed. Google is also subject to receive the effects.
"We are offering navigation for cars and pedestrians in 74 countries in 46 languages. Ovi Maps truly free," Jukka Husio said, director of marketing services Nokia in Helsinki, as quoted by the AFP detikINET on Friday (22/1/2010) . The new version's Ovi Maps can be downloaded at the Nokia website is, to provide full navigation features like voice guidance for driving, 180 state map, directions and content from leading partners such as Lonely Planet and Time Out. Navigation industry players such as Tom Tom and Garmin affected by this initiative is estimated to Nokia's. And iSupply's prediction that the GPS market is likely to fall. If you have free trial on your phon efor 7 days, you need to open in your phone:
menu>maps>options>shop and licences>shop (if you do not have any free trail) or if you have free trail you need to go to my licence>select.
    Kind regards,
    Nokia Care
    My question:
    I 'm a nokia phone's user of Hong kong,China and I'm using
    the nokia N82.
recently,I hear the nokia OVI maps can update to the 3.03 VER. with the free Navigation Forever.
but my nokia N82 is still not see the updatelist in yours website.
however when I go to yours webside from my nokia N82,because I want to try the 7-days Navigation ,but now can't go any more.
actually,I have asked the Hong kong nokia 's E-mail ,they haven not aswer me the question "when will the nokia N82 can update to the New Ovi Map with the free Navigation Forever"
I'm really really angry about that...
so I really want yours to answer me the question,I 'm very need this function with my life . thank you very much
    a nokia N82 user

This I wrote in the "Nokia E71 and E66 get free navigation, today" thread but it fits this one as well. So here it is. (Yes I know that the 1 year licens is €10 now).
This "news" is really a slap in the face to us N82/N95 owners who also runs S60 3.1.
If Nokia from the very beginning told us that "Sorry folks, if U got an older phone you don´t be able to get the free navigation Ovi Maps" then my reaction would be, ok that´s life.
But when you read things like
Ovi Maps are already available for download for 10 Nokia models, including the popular mini Nokia N97, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia E72. More models are expected to be included in the coming weeks.
And everywhere on the Nokia website
-Navigation on your Nokia. For free. Forever
    -Mobile navigation for everyone
-All this with only one click. And it's all free.
-Ovi Maps Free navigation on your Nokia.
You really hope that it will be free on your Nokia.
And on top of that the E66 and E71 get the Free navigation (So the limitations could´t be the software S60 3.1). Then I think me and many N82/N95 users are mildly upset.
After used five Nokia phones I don´t planning to buy a new one. Instead of spending €99.99 for 1 year navigation I put the money in a HTC android phone. Then I can spend €25-€30 on a no limit navigation software.
    You spoke, we listened
    http://conversations.nokia.com/2010/04/06/nokia-e71-and-e66-get-free-navigation-today/
    Yeah right.
Now people say. It is a lot of coding, programming bla bla bla.... to make it work in N82/N95.
I´ll give you the solution for free. Just reduce the licens price to €0 or €0.10 for the 3.01 Ovi Maps.

  • Help me locate this place for my Ovi Maps ?

    Hi
I'm trying to search for this place in preparation for when we drive there in rental car from the airport:
Evans & Tselepi 21-26 Aghios Nikolaos 72100, Crete, Greece
Ovi Maps can't find it via online search - not sure if this is related to greek-english translation issues.
Can someone advise me further  ?

  • Ovi Maps for E-Series Wish List

I've tried for a while to switch from Google Maps to Ovi Maps, but Ovi Maps is just lacking in too many ways.  I thought it would be time to start a wish list and hope that someone out there in Nokia land is reading:
When looking at search results in Map mode, an up or down press on the 4-way key pad moves to the next or last search item.  This should allow you to scroll around the map and view the proximity of the search items.  It is currently impossible to scroll up or down on the map.  Google Maps uses specific keys for forward and back and leaves the 4-way key pad for navigating.
The data base that Ovi Maps searches (ie restaurants, etc) is very limited.  I often cannot find what I'm looking for and have to go to Google Maps.  In Google, I find what I'm looking for and then have to remember the address to import it into Ovi Maps.  Ovi either needs to get a better way of searching the web or needs to figure out a way to import starred items from Google Maps easily.
Ovi Maps can't look inside my own phone at the Contacts for an address.  So often I am looking for an address that is in my contacts.  It would be great if Ovi Maps could look up a contact.  Should be easy, right?  Since Nokia wrote the Contacts app and the Ovi Maps app, they should be able to link them easily.
Thanks for reading.  Please add to this list as you see fit.

This feature is certainly present in latest version of OVI Maps from Nokia Beta Labs:http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-for-mobile-v3-06-check-in-update
Whereas previously only contents of folder could be removed, now "collection" can be deleted.

  • Ovi map update failure

    Hi,
I connected my X6 to OVI suite on my PC and it informed that there were updates.
So I went to updates and selected the optional updates in which it showed that there is an update of OVI maps. Since I was not interested in all other optional updates i selected this one and started the update. After downloading the update, the update started and after a few minutes I got an error message: "Update failed: an internal error occurred"
My OVI maps version is 3.04 and firmware version of X6 is 32.0.002. I know that my OVI suite is not the latest version but that cannot be the problem.
I can update maps without problems, also delete and add are no problem, but changing from OVI maps 3.04 to 3.06 always fails (have tried is several times, also disconnecting the phone, resetting it etc...).
    Why does the update fails????
    Regards,
    Rene

    @Moma13
Perhaps posting which device with what firmware version you have run into issues with would be helpful here. Resetting device to "Out of box" state and/or re-installing exisiting device software using Tools > Software updates > Re-install within Nokia Suite upon PC will resolve most issues.
Nokia Maps v3.06 & later use mapping 0.2.46.103 whereas Ovi Maps v3.01, 3.03 & 3.04 use 0.1.28.107 so old set of mapping would have to be replaced anyway as part of update.
Sometimes installing Nokia Maps v3.06 provided there is enough free phone memory (>20MB) can entail removal of more files as in this post:http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Ovi-Maps-v3-06-File-Not-Found-Installation-E...

  • Cannot update c5 ovi maps to version 3.4

I can see the update on the C5. It shows 8102 kB. When I select it and choose start update (translated from finnish UI) the update runs, but the result is a failed update. The phone gives me an option to view the update history, where I can see an entry of failed updated, but no further info. There's 33 MB of free internal memory and the firmware version was earlier updated to 032.010. What could I try next?

Nokia does not care. Trying to upgrade after those "conversations" blog posts advertising 3.04 ended up killing Maps entirely on the C5.
My detailed post on MAY 24: /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Maps-3-04-upgrade-breaks-Maps-on-C5-00/m-p/691170
    Nokia did not care.
A month later, Nokia posted a "sticky" in the maps forum about the Ovi Maps calamity, completely ignoring the C5 problem. My post on June 30: /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Re-Ovi-Maps-Installation-Troubleshooting/m-p/714834
Now, after upgrading to the latest firmware, I tried to install again. But now it says I'm out of memory on the C5. You know what?
    Nokia does not care.

  • Mistakes with Ovi Maps - how often are they update...

I've noticed a few subtle mistakes with Ovi Maps driving around - for instance a street near me is actually blocked off at one end but the navigator tries to get you to turn into it, and another where it directs you to turn right but no right turn is allowed at that intersection.
Anyone know if these kind of things are corrected?

They are updated about 3 times a year if memory serves me right. Anyway, you can report errors like these to Nokia so they can fix it.
