C60 2nd Camera on Daisy chain set-up not booting-up

Hi,
I'm having issue with powering up the secondary camera after restarting the C60 in a daisy chain set-up. When the CODEC reboots, the secondary camera loses power it's and the work-around is to reconnect it's power supply. Any thoughts?
Firmware version of C60 is 7.1.4.

Having a number of very similar configurations (but with a C60 instead of a C40), I can confirm that the 2nd camera must have its own seperate power supply and doesn't get powered over the control cable. Only the first camera in the chain can get powered from the C40, but given the distance we usually have between the endpoint and the first camera, we often power the first camera seperately as well.
I have many rooms configured like this - but do have one room that often has a similar issue to what you're describing. When we reboot the C series endpoint, the cameras go back to the privacy position, and when the endpoint comes back up, the 2nd camera in the chain, on this one particular endpoint, does not show as a connected camera in the web interface, nor point to the preset position it is set to go to on startup. Unplugging the camera's power cable and re-plugging it (or in our case, turning it off and on again at the GPO as the camera is mounted 15' up a wall) restores the functionality of this camera.
As we have many working rooms, all configured the same, but have this issue on only one room, we haven't spent a lot of time investigating the issue, but expect that it's a power supply that is starting to fail, or too much voltage drop in long power cable which could be fixed by swapping out the power supply with a different one.

Daisy chain set up dual DVD writers and dual drives

Which comes first in a daisy chain? I have dual sets of DVD burner/external drives connected to a hub as two sets. With each set should I hub to the DVD burner or hub to the external drive first in the daisy chain or does it matter?

To restate and update now that I know a little more.
I have a C2D Intel Santa Rosa mini 2GHz/2GB with one Firewire 400 port and four USB2 ports.
I jumper from the mini FWa to the Apple 20in monitor which then gives me two FWa ports as a hub sharing bandwidth for four separate units - two LaCie d2 Quads, a Sony DVD burner, and a LG DVD burner in a Ratoc enclosure. Since I don't use everything at once, that's okay. My main use is one or the other of the DVD burners. The Sony is Region 1 and the LG is region free for some international DVDs.
Viewing DVDs with this setup using VLC and a Logicool speaker setup works fine.
I have a fifth unit which is a Maxtor FWa/USB2 drive connected to a USB port.
When I do DV capture I disconnect all devices from the single FWa on the mini and use it for the camcorder with capture into the internal drive. The files are moved to one of the external FW drives with the USB as the scratch disk.
I haven't tried to capture on the USB drive so that's still ahead of me. My Canon camcorder will not daisy chain using FW.
As I see it, the mini is okay. A MacBook would not gain me anything since it has a single FWa port. A MacBook Pro would not gain me anything, with one exception, since both FWa for the camcorder and FWb for the external drive are on the same bus. The iMacs are the same. I'd have to move to the Mac Pro to start getting an advantage.
The lone exception for the MBP is using an Express Card for eSATA. I could put the camcorder on the FWa port and a LaCie Quad on the eSATA port card. Since the LaCie Quad has FW it could also be used for an external boot if needed away from home. At home the MBP would still drive the 20in Apple monitor.
Mac mini, MBP or Mac Pro are my choices. The least expensive, yet still suitable, is the mini. It runs iMovie 08, iMovie HD for a little more editing oomph, and FCE 4 if I want still more editing stuff.

Daisy chain isight imovie not working

Hi,
I am currently botting my mac mini off an external hard drive. When I daisy chain the isight it works fine with ichat, but it fails to work with imovie. What happens is that it works for approx. 10 to 15 seconds and then the image skips(like an old tv skipping horizontally) and the image freezes. Any help would be widely appreciated.

-Be sure you have NO unnecessary apps running while you are recording.
-If you are using FileVault, try turning that off. There are known issues with FileVault and iMovie.
-You can try booting from your internal drive when you want to use iSight to see if iSight works acceptably with iMovie that way.
-You can make very short clips and edit them together in iMovie.
-Try adding light. Many who post here experience an iMovie video "freeze" that is not related to which drive is being used to boot. There seems to be a wide variation in how long recording can be done before the freeze occurs. Perhaps you are just experiencing the "iMovie freeze"? You can search iSight Discussions (up on level) for "iMovie freeze" (without the quote marks) to find several other users' experiences.
-The iMovie freeze can be caused by low light. iSight switches to 15 frames-per-second to improve picture quality in low-light conditions. This causes a conflict with iMovie, which expects standard DV input at a fixed frame rate.
-As explained in David Babsky's "Various iMovie/iSight problems" msg # 1, Jul 14, 2005 response to your post in iMovieHD Discussions, more light, iMovie HD, and keeping other apps that use iSight closed may (my emphasis) help.
-Try another app like EvoCam. The fifth item in the EvoCam FAQ claims that they have a fix for the iMovie freeze. Their work-around involves resetting the video channel. You can do the same thing manually in iMovie by just making shorter clips and editing them together.
-Although I do not know any that yield better results, there are other video clip capture apps included in the Some Applications you can use with iSight FAQ.
-For more specific iMovie help, you may also want to check out the FAQs and posts in the iMovie Discussions area applicable to the version you use. The iMovie users are watching there.
I know you wish it would work differently, but it obviously is not working the way you want. Perhaps one of these work-arounds can help you accomplish your desired outcome, even if you cannot attain it via your preferred methodology.

Two WD MyBook Studios in Daisy Chain, Windows 7 not recognizing second HDD

I have two Western Digital MyBook Studio Edition II external drives in a daisy chain. These are the 2TB versions -- one functions as a Time Machine backup for both my MacBook Pro and iMac, and the other stores most of my media. The first drive in the chain, my Time Machine drive, is recognized and accessible through Windows 7, while the second drive is not.
What's odd, however, is that I've been able to access these drives together on a previous installation of Windows, in a similar hardware configuration.
What gives? Any suggestions? Has anyone run into this issue before?
I'm running Windows 7 on a 27" iMac (i5) with all available updates installed.

I found your post whilst researching my options for connecting 2 x My Book Studio II (both are the 4TB version) to my MacMini 2010 running Snow Leopard.
Do you only run Windows 7 on your Mac, or have you had success running Mac Snow Leopard too with your daisy-chain configuration?
The reason behind my question, is that I had some problems in the early days (18 months ago) with daisy-chaining, there was some corruption of data and the lights on the front of one drive indicated an (undocumented) error mode that WD support could not advise what it meant, their only advice was to reformat the drive again, and again (it was tedious.)
I had a unit replaced in the end, however I never had the nerve to go back to a daisy-chain configuration after my initial problems.
WD support advised me to connect one drive with FW800, and the other with USB - something to do with unique ID's.
I now need an additional USB port free, so I am considering daisy chaining the FW800 drives.
I could just try it of course, however the second drive is used to backup the first drive (and is then disconnected) - and I don't want to risk corrupting both drives now that I have 3TB of data.

Daisy chain an external drive

Just set up new iMac with a 2TB external Lacie drive, partitioned for Time Machine and SuperDuper, and connected with Firewire 800.
I want to also use my old 500GB Lacie external drive for temporarily holding unedited movies, whilst I work on them in Final Cut or iMovie.
Can I connect the old external drive to the new external drive using a Firewire 400 cable and without adversely effecting my set-up?
Looking ahead, is it true that there will be Thunderbolt adaptors to enable a second or third Firewire 800 connection(s)?
Would the above options be preferable to a Firewire Hub?
All views appreciated.

Yes as long as both are self powered, then daisy chaining them should not be a problem. If one drive is bus powered (not self powered) then it should be connect to a powered drive at the end of the chain, instead of into the iMac or mid chain where 3 or more drives are chained together.

Yes a FireWire 400 drive can be plugged into the 400 port of a 800 External Hard Drive (if so equipped) or into the spare FireWire 800 port by using either a 6 to 9 adapter or 6 to 9 FireWire cable.

Daisy Chain Question

I am considering buying two external hard drives from OWC, one (500GB) a quad interface for audio production, and a second a simple fw400/usb2 for backup (750GB). I was wondering if anyone knew if you could daisy chain the two together the following way: the quad interface connected to my MBP with FW800 and then run a FW400 cable from the quad drive to the larger backup drive.

So the answer is yes? If the first drive is fw800, I can link the second by the first drive's fw400 port? Or would I have to use the first drive's 2nd FW800 to daisy chain (the reason I ask is that I have no need for the fw800 on the 2nd drive).

Daisy Chaining Routers

I have had a Netgear WGR614 for 3-4 years and it has worked perfectly for those years. My husband's employer is beginning a pilot (wireless) program which will allow a few supervisors to use their laptops at home. They can already use them wired but the object of this program is to see if the company wishes to persue a wireless program. The only stipulation is that a company furnish and configured router must be daisy chained onto ours. That compnay furnished router is a lInksys WRT54G and has been set up as the company sees fit. We cannot access (or at least I have not tried resetting to see if I can access the configuration but may do that).
Here lies the problem.
Last night it worked fine. He was able to surf using the profile the company created for him. All was OK. I was having a bit of a problem with my Thinkpad so I peaked over to see what his IP address was. It was 192.168.0.3. My eventually returned to working condition so we both continued to woirk without incident. He decided to turn his off and it shut down OK. He later returned and turned it on and he appears to have a full signal in the taskbar but is unable to start explorer or use the VPN. The IP address is now something like 192.168.0.100. I have tried releasing and renewing IP config and turning the radio off and back on. When I check the device manager everything seems OK but I did not that there is a red X through the Intel ProSet 1000 network card. (he said that is because he is not plugged in at work but I am unsure).
Here are my questions:
1) Why would it work but after a shut down it will not (the signal does appear to be OK but for some reason cannot accress the VPN or explorer?
2) Both channels on the router are set to 11 (it worked once so am assuming it is OK now).
3) Since I cannot access his settings to see if DHCP is enabled how do i determine it is and if not can anything be done.
When he powered down he got a message re ACS.exe ... memory...address etc. This is not the full message but most thinkpad users know this is their access connections software so I am assuming it is a problem loading a profile or something on the laptop that we probably will not be able to change.
If anybody has any solutions I would appreaciate your help. I cannot contact company IT because the contract clearly states "no support for home wireless".

If your wirelss router is "daisy chained" they should not be running DHCP. How are they connected? Internet connection>main router?>wireless router? I would say setting up static IP's for each user would be way better. What security are you using if any? If your wireless is behind another router then configure it as a WAP (wireless access point) and let the main routers DHCP assign your IP addreeses. Not sure if that router will let you but my wrt54gs will. Make sure the router is all configured then plug it in from numberd port to munberd port on the wireless router if you want it as a WAP and make sure the DCHP is off in the wireless router. With the ip changing everytime you restart your pc tells me the DHCP on the wirless router is on. Make sure the router does have the latest firmware installed and your security if any is configured before you convert it to a WAP. This configuration bypasses the wireless routers options and basically extends a wireless option to your main router.

When i install a 2nd 1gb stick of memory in my pavilion dv6000t laptop, the laptop will not boot.

HP Pavilion dv6000t running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit version. My system currently is running on a single 1GB stick of memory. I have a 2nd matching 1GB stick of memory. When I install the 2nd stick of memory the system will not boot. All the lights come on, the hard drive spins up, but you can not even get into the BIOS setup screen, it just sits there with a blank screen. What could be causing this. When I encounter issues like that, I switch the memory modules to see if one of the chips is bad.
So, I recommend you remove the one memory chip that is working, and put the other one in its place.
If the PC boots up, now install the second chip and see what happens.
If it doesn't boot up, then there is some undefined hardware issue.
If the PC doesn't boot up when you initially switch the memory with the one stick, then you know that the one memory module is bad.

Camera not recognized unless daisy-chained with external HD

I just bought a LaCie 250GB external FW drive to use as a scatch disk for FCE. Now my camera (Sony DCR-HC30) is not recognized unless I plug it into the LaCie. I borrowed a second camera (Panasonic), swapped the FW cable while the camera and HD were plugged into separate FW ports, and the Panasonic was immediately connected in both iMovie (v4) and FCE. I've tried the suggested fixes (unplug, Garageband, swap ports, new cable...) and the problem remains. I upgraded memory, QT and applied several patches prior to attaching the HD. Any suggestions? Can I live with the daisy chain arrangement or will that cause problems importing to the external HD? (I've not tried to import any video yet). Thanks

Can I daisy chain a DisplayPort-only monitor through the 2nd TB connector on a WD 8TB My Book Thunderbolt Duo to a mid-2011 Mac Mini?

I'm very tempted by a refurb HP Smartbuy ZR2740w 27" WQHD display, but it doesn't have a HDMI port. It does have DisplayPort.
Since the mid-2011 Mac Mini I have has either HDMI or Thunderbolt to choose from, plus I've just bought an external TB storage system, I think I'd need to connect the monitor to the second TB port on the external TB storage and hope that the external storage would pass the DisplayPort signals along.
I've read that DisplayPort connections are compatible with TB ports on Macs, and that you can daisy chain TB devices.
I don't want to assume those statements hold when I'd need to connect the DisplayPort cable to the 2nd TB port on the external storage.
Anyone know if this will work?
Is it "supported"?

Daisy chaining external hard drives and a video camera from a single firewire 800 port on my imac

I have only a single firewire 800 port on my imac and want to know if I can daisy chain two external hard drives and my video camera, please? If not is there another solution using USB 2?

Are the external HDs self powered or powered by the FW port? If they are self powered there should not be a problem. If they are port powered they may put a strain on the port's power output but I'n not positive on that.

Ejecting a Firewire DV camera daisy chained vis a External Firewire HD

I have my firewire DV camera daisy chained via my firewire external Hard drive.
When I unplug my firewire dv camera, after a little while I get a message on my mac that a device was removed incorrectly and the external firewire dirve dismounts.
This only happens after I have unplugged my DV cam, so am I supposed to eject the cmera somehow??
It doesn't show as an external drive so I wouldn't have a clue where to even start looking.
Any ideas?

This would depend on the "capturing" application. In most cases you simply tell the application that capture is completed by pressing a "Done" button, disconnect button, ESC key, or similar action to let the application know that it can close the device protocol and allow the device to be removed.

Connecting 2 Firewire Drives daisy chained on a MacBook Pro Retina: 1rst FW8-Dr is ejected by OSX 10.8.2 as soon as I power up the 2nd FW-800 Dr.

OSX 10.8.2 seems to eject a FW-800 Drive to any attempt to connect in daisy chain a second.
- Connecting one single Firewire-800 drive (G drive) seems to work fine (connection through a Thunderbolt-FW800 adapter)
- As soon as I try to connect a second FW-800 G drive in daisy chain, when I turn the power on to the second: Mountain Lion ejects to first with the message "improperly ejected" and both drives are not visible. I do not use separate power supply for the FW-Drives.
- The same thing happens with for the second drive instead of a true FW-800, it is an SSD 128 GB mounted on an enclosure with a FW-800 interface.

I've got a non-retina MBP i5, and it's not behaving like that, so no way should yours be. Can't hear it at all until it really comes under load. But even then it's relatively quiet. Quite concerning that it's happening to you with nothing loaded up.
Something is obviously taking up cpu power just by having the audio engine running, have you checked OSX Activity monitor and checked where your processor(s) are being used?
Also, check your audio options and make sure the audio buffer isn't set ridiculously low.
Agree that Apple expansion options are expansive - However, at least they're working on getting the software reduced, Logic X being an example of that.

DV Camera/External HD Daisy Chain

Good morning.
Is there any reason why I shouldn't connect my DV camera to the Firewire 400 port on my external drive rather than the one on my laptop? I experimented with this and it seemed to work just fine.
I was testing this out to explore the feasibility of purchasing the new iMacs which don't have a 400 port. I will primarily use these machines for video editing in a classroom. I will connect an OWC external hard drive to each machine via the 800 port, and was wondering about capturing video by connecting (daisy chaining) the DV camera to the hard drive's 400 port.
Any issues I should be aware of?

The main issue you might encounter is dropped frames on capture or playback. Since all Macs have only one Firewire bus, regardless of the number or type of Firewire ports, the best way to go is to use a Firewire card - that forces a second Firewire bus inside the Mac which improves data throughput.
You can purchase Firewire cards for laptops with a PCMCIA or express card slot or a PCI card for desktop Macs.

Daisy chaining a FireWire drive

I just bought a new 21.5 inch iMac, and I'm in the process of setting it up. I noticed it has one 800 FireWire port. I have a Pro Tools DigiRack with only 400 ports. I have an 800/400 cable, so I'll be able to connect it, and a seperate external hard drive with 800 ports.
What I'm wondering is if it would be better to daisy chain the DigiRack off of the external hard drive and connect the drive to the iMac, or connect the Digirack to the iMac with an 800/400 cable, and run the external drive off of the Digirack? I'm curious if one way would be more efficient than the other, and also if the hard drive could handle the DigiRack feeding off of it.
If I haven't totally confused everyone, I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Sorry to jump on this topic, but I have a query about the same thing. I need to run a firewire 800 external drive with a firewire 400 dv camera daisy chained to it from my MBP. What happens to the read speeds when daisy chaining externals? does it drop dramatically e.g by half if using two externals on the same port? My only other option is to use the external drive with USB2. but the drive is the priority! would that be faster than daisychaining on a FW800 port?
