C6180 Images print dark

Printing from windows7, I am struggling to get images printed with the colours correct, they are far too dark. The images were originally RAW, have been processed and exported from Lightroom as TIFF files (also tried JPG).
All images print far too dark and I really cannot work out why. I've tried increasing the brightness in the driver settings, but this didn't help anywhere near enough.
I realise that I might need to do something about colour profiles and colour management, but I'm unsure what (especially as windows7 as new diaglogues for all of this).
Has anyone seen this, know if what I need to do, or can offer any help?
Thanks.

First of all, you must mean Photoshop CS6, not the ancient Photoshop 6 which is about 14 years old.
Go to the Help menu in Photoshop and select Updates and update Photoshop.

  • MAC OS 10.5.7 and Samsung CLP-610ND color laser printer, images very dark

Just picked up this printer 3 days ago, set up fine prints word files fine. Any images print very dark. MY main use is printing a pdf newsletter but the print image is so dark it is useless. I have tried print as image. I have also tried a plain jpg from camera and that was also very dark. Talked to Samsung and they said it was my computer and I should return it. Not what I want to do.
Also I took my pdf file and tried ot on other laser printers that had a Secure digital file reader and the colors were correct some with my HO color inkjet.
So printing through adobe or preview images are too dark.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

Went back to HP.com and this time was able to see and download latest driver and firmware for HP LaserJet P3005dn  Installation of new firmware was done thru the HP Printer Utility application on my iMac OS 10.7.5
I was able to choose my printer and then upload the firmware file from the iMac to the printer. This has completely solved the problem!
Thank you ~graffiti Not sure why I was not able to access the driver and firmware earlier from the HP site but eventually I found it.

  • Exported pdf images print very dark

I bought a new color laser printer a Samsung clp-610nd. Samsung support has been awful. The pdf I am trying to print has image, jpgs from photoshop. I use a Macbook Pro. The pdf text prints great, the images are very dark. I can print the pdf on a deskjet and the images are accurate. I am sure this is a color issue but I dont know what I am doing wrong. Any thoughts on where to start?  If I print straight from indesign, the images are also dark. I just dont know enough color profiles to figure this out.

As you've proved yourself this is a printer problem, not Indesign...
    Ah, but which printer?
Without a calibrated and profiled monitor there's no way to know if the image is displaying correctly, and consequently of knowing if either printer is rendering correctly.
Make sure you aren't managing color twice. Either your application or the printer should be using color management, but not both. I prefer to let the application do it if it can.
You can play with profiles until you are blue in the face, but it will be shooting blind unless you calibrate the monitor first, and it will be even better if you get custom profiles for the printers. The odds are equally good that your inkjet prints light as that the laser prints dark. Most laser drivers also include density adjustments that allow you to print darker or lighter.

  • Some images printing too dark

I have two cameras that I use with iPhoto 6.0.4. A Canon G4, and a Pentax ist D. In iPhoto both cameras have nice looking images. The images from the Canon make beautiful prints, but the Pentax images print too dark. How can I fix this? Can I set different printing preferences for each camera?

whenever I calibrate my iMac with the Spyder2 hardware, I have to calibrate it twice because I always forget to turn off the Screen Saver and the Energy Saver 'Put Screen to Sleep' option.
another important thing about calibration. where is your 'book located during the calibration? what lights or on or off? is there any direct sunlight shining on the 'book?
personally, I prefer to calibrate at night with all lights turned off. if I calibrate at day, I shut the tinted doors and turn all (fluorescent) lights off. I realise that you are supposed to calibrate under your normal lighting conditions but I prefer this method

  • Lightroom 5.7, Epson 820 printer. dark images

I am using Lightroom 5.7 and Epson 820 printer.  i have calibrated my monitors using spider3, no printer ICC and using multiple different ICCs in lightroom and all the same result.   All my images are dark and washed out.  Need help.  If I export my images and print from MS photo viewer they look pretty good.

As to my printer drivers, after installing Snow Leopard, I was unable to print using LR2.5. The print would fail generating an error. I then installed the new drivers from the Epson web site: epson13113.dmg for my Epson R2400. This "worked" in that it did not generate an error, but would just transmit to printer and then quit.
Up to that point I had done a minimum of web reading, I just had seen that Matt K. from Kelby and others had been using SN and LR2 successfully. With my two failures, I googled extensively. I deleted all my printers, downloaded the new 10/22 Apple Epson drivers, re-ran the Epson drivers, etc, etc, etc, stopping and restarting along the way until I was able to obtain CS4 prints using SL with my Epson R2400.
At that point, I returned to my initial objective, which was to obtain (re-obtain, if you will as I previously had them) quality prints from LR. The early prints were harsh and less than acceptable, and when I got the "Sun in the dark" picture that I could quantify, I knew I had a definite issue and posted to this forum.
(I am assuming that my deletion of the profiles while seeking to update driver is how I generated my initial inconsistency that was part of my original post).
I now looks like I had a color space problem. I have deleted and re-generated the psd "Edit in Photoshop" image. Again, on the screen, the edit and the original appear identical and as the CS4 print is correct, I am left, it appears to me, with a LR2.5 printing issue unless I can find some configuration issue. The two pictures are definitely different with the flesh tone pink and some of the background colors "lighter" in the LR2 print.
(As a side, I don't think this would matter, the original pics were taken as raw nef from a D700 camera using a 105mm VR2 macro lens).
    Thanks for your time.

  • PS CS4 printing dark; LR 2.2 printing fine

Printing with the same profile, same intent, same computer, same printer. PS and LR do the color management and the printer doesn't.
At some point with CS3, PS started printing dark. This has carried over to CS4. Lightroom printing is fine.
    Ideas? I don't have a clue.
    Thanks, Hal

    Hi DYP,
I apologize if people thought I was making political or some other kind of statement. Yes, help is what I'm after.
    OS: 10.5.5
    Printer: Epson 2200
Driver: 3.09 (found that in /Library/Printer/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/SP2200.plugin)
LR 2.2: in the Print Setting, I'm using No Color Management and in the Print Job panel Color Management is set to an appropriate profile from Ilford matching the paper, inkset, and printer, Rendering Intent is Relative.
PS CS4: Color Handling is set to Photoshop Manages Colors, the same profile is being used as in LR, Rendering Intent is Relative Colorimetric.
Driver settings: Color management is set to No Color Adjustment
I've tested with the same photo on several occasions. I typically use a working space of ProPhoto RGB. Images look the same in both PS and LR on screen.
Haven't done anything with a control photo. Don't know anything about them.
I profile the monitor monthly with a Spyder.
When I say that the prints look dark in PS compared to LR, I'm guessing it's around 2 to 3 EV darker. Color is OK.
A few months ago, when I profiled my monitor (iMac), I set the gamma to 2.2 on advice from others. At that point, I noticed that my prints were dark. I subsequently profiled it back to 1.8. I believe that printing with PS CS3 was fine at that point. I wasn't printing with LR then. I upgraded to PS CS4. I may have changed my default color space from Adobe RGB to ProPhoto RGB. But, I would think that it would just get out of gamut issues if this was the problem.
    Thanks, Hal

  • Moving from Corel Ventura into InDesign CS4 - prints dark

My company has been using Corel Ventura for years, up to version 10.   We are now switching in InDesign CS4, but everything is printing dark.  We use it to publish black & white manuals, including some photos  & vector art.
Ventura had an essentially unmanaged color workflow -  everything was set to generic - i.e. - "Generic RGB" & "Generic  CMYK"
In Indesign, currently we are using "North American General  Purpose 2".  The files are printed to a postscript file in InDesign.   Then made into a PDF via Distiller.  The settings for the PS file &  Distiller we are using came from LightingSource.com.
I  was assuming that the problem came up in the creation of the PS file -  under Color Handling - it is set to "Let InDesign Determine Colors".  So  I took the other option & used "Let PS printer determine colors"   The pages print lighter now, but they are actually too light.  I'm not  sure what to try next, given that any direct alteration of the printer  setup is out of the question.
    Any help would be great!!!

Not knowing more, this is a possible solution if you have Photoshop:
    1. In Photoshop with no documents open: Edit Color Settings. By CMYK, Custom CMYK. Black Generation "Maximum"
    2. Hit OK, but NOT to the whole Color Settings dialog, just the Custom CMYK dialog. Again in the CMYK pull down, "Save CMYK" Put the profile in your Color Sync folder where InDesign will recognize it. After you save it CANCEL. You don't really want to alter your Photoshop color settings, you just want to create the Max Black Generation profile
    3. In InDesign. Create a top most layer on master page. Create a white box to fill the whole page. Set Blend Mode to "Color" Lock the layer.
    4. Change the transparency blend space to RGB (Under Edit)
    5. Assign the new Max Black CMYK profile to the ID document (Edit: Assign Profile)
    6. Check with Separations Preview, you should have K channel only
    7. Export PDF/X1a. By Output: Destination: "Document CMYK." You must flatten transparency when you output PDF, and X-1a will do this. The PDF result will be black and white, K channel only. Verify in Acrobat.
This process converts an all color InDesign document to K only CMYK. Dot Gain will be standard 20% but can be changed in step 1 when you create the custom CMYK.
Any grayscale images placed should not be affected by this workflow.
This process is the closest thing I know of to grayscale color management in InDesign.

  • Images too dark on external display

    Hello,
I use Lightroom on my (Lenovo) notebook. Because of the small screen size, I tried using it with an external (Samsung) display. However, when I open Lightroom on the external display, all the images suddenly seem way too dark. It is the case that this display is generally too dark, because when I view the same picture in a photo viewer or a browser it is not too dark. See for example this screenshot. On the left hand you see an image (export from Lightroom) in my browser, on the right hand the same image in Lightroom. You can clearly see it is much darker. When I view both images on the screen of the notebook itself, there is no difference between them.
Actually, when I move the Lightroom window from the notebook display to the external display, you can clearly see Lightroom adjusting the images from light to dark.
Does anyone know what causes this, and how I can prevent Lightroom from showing the images too dark?
    Thanks!

I guess you misunderstood my problem. It's not only that images on the external display are way darker than on the notebook, but also that on the external display images in Lightroom are much darker than when I view the same image on the same display in a photo viewer or a browser. In the screenshot pictured above both the light and the dark version of the image are on the same external display.
However, in the meantime I found a solution. Changing the Windows Color System device profile to a non-WCS-profile did the trick: Photos appear as black, gray rectangles | Lightroom | Windows
Thanks anyway for trying to help.

  • Images printing too small using Lightroom

I have an image that is 316x x 2317 pixels that I am printing using Lightroom 2.3 on Windows XP SP2. I use the Picture Package and add one 4x6 image to the sheet. I am using the Maximize template from the browser. The photo borders are minimum. The image nearly fills the page in the Lightroom viewer just as I expect. The image appears the same in Print Preview. However on my Epson 3800 the image prints about 30% smaller and offset to one corner of the 4x6 sheet.
The problem also occurs when printing from Photoshop CS4.
I am not scaling or resizing in the print driver. I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer using the latest driver.
    Please help!!
    Michael

    Oh my...
It seems that, embarrasingly I was tripple checking everything for 4x6 prints but actually had 5x7 loaded in the printer!
    Thanks for helping the hopeless.
