C6180 only prints in fast draft

My Photosmart c6180 (on a Dell Precision M4400 laptop, 2.53ghz, 18 months old, Windows XP sp3/quad core/4.0 GB  memory/68% HD available/ZoneAlarm firewall and antivirus, I run virus/spyware scans frequently using ZA and Advanced System Optimizer/disk defragmented 24/7 using Diskeeper) will only print full document content in "fast draft" mode, and fast draft is about one fourth the speed it used to be. In other print modes (automatic, fast normal,  normal, best) it will, for example, print the outlines of forms (when printing from a .pdf document or from QickBooks) but no text within the form. In automatic, normal, fast normal, best, It will not print text at all from Word or WordPerfect, onlyl prints text when in fast draft mode. It will not print text copied and pasted to Notepad, again, except in fast draft mode and even that is also very slow.
The HP diagnostics "Test Page" colors print fine (I have consumed half a cartridge of each color printing test pages), but there is no text (not sure if that page even has text). The HP "Diagnostic Page" prints the header text and the big color boxes fine, and the outline of the form, again consuming lots of ink, but the text within the document is a very light blue, so light it is unreadable though it is there. On one of the test pages it prints the Windows logo in the upper left, but nothing else.
When trying to print text documents the printer sounds like and acts like it is printing. The printer head moves over the page and the paper moves, slowly, through the printer but the paper has no print when it comes out. The printer has also become extremely slow when attempting to print in anything other than fast draft and that is even much slower than it once was.
I have already done the following:
     1) changed the USB cable, and then changed the USB port. Nothing changed.
     2) uninstalled all HP software and drivers and reinstalled all new. Took four attemptes and 18 hours, but once  finally   up and running......no change.
     3) I have gone through the Windows printer troubleshooting Q&A, no help.
Would very much appreciate your help, I have exhausted the limits of my trouble shooting skills.

  • Copying using HP office jet pro 8610 where do I find printing using fast draft?

    Two questions.
When I print a document from by Macbook Pro, on the print menu it lists presets such as:
    Photo Paper
    Plain Paper, best
    Plain Paper, draft
Plain Paper, draft black and white
    Other settings
If I want to copy a document, where on the printer do I find these settings?
My other question is if I want to cancel a print job that I am copying, where do I fin this information?
And if there is any place on the HP site that I can find other info, please let me know.
Thank you so much for your help.
    barb

    Hi barb,
For copying, you may click on Copy from the printer front panel, then open the Copy ettings menu by tapping the  icon.
Click on Quality and change the print quality as needed.
That can be saved as default by changing the option and then clicking on Set as New Defaults if needed.
For the other question, when the printer process a copy or print job you will see a "printing" header at the top of the screen.
Scroll down your finger from that header and an option to cancel the job will appear on the screen.
You may save the user guide of the printer below, it include each and any options to operate the printer:

  • How can I print my entire draft message, instead of only the part of it that shows on the screen?

I have drafted response to a message I received. I need a copy of the draft to show my associate, but my printer will only print the portion of the draft that can be seen on the screen at one time. I have not previously encountered this problem. What needs to be changed?

Does your email site have a print button to format the page for printing? That often gives the best results.
If this just started with Firefox 4, it could be related to a change in how strict Firefox is about a page's HTML code. To see whether this problem is caused by the new HTML5 parser, you can turn it off like this:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''html5''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click '''html5.parser.enable''' to toggle it to false (it should turn bold).
Then return to your mail site, reload the page, and test again. (Print Preview might be sufficient for testing.)
Does that make any difference? If so, the site might not yet be fully compatible with Firefox 4 -- or you have found a bug in Firefox.

  • Printer only prints draft

I have an HP LaserJet Pro m401dn printer and I'm using Mac OS 10.9.2.  Since my OS upgrade I can only print in draft mode.  I can't find a way to print in higher quality.

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial printer. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/
Here are the drivers for Maverick. Mac OS X 10.9 downloads for HP LaserJet Pro 400 Printer M401dn.
Find out what the printer name shows. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences. Click Print & Scan, highlight the printer on the left column and look for the name of the driver installed on the right side of the window.
If it says Airprint, delete the driver and add a new one with the printers name.
(you might have to click the drop down to select the printer name)
    I hope this helps.

  • How do I set the default print pref to fast draft on a Photosmart C410 w/o using a PC?

I have a Photosmart C410 for printing from my iPad.  I want to set the print preference to print "fast draft" instead of the "normal" default.  Can I do this from the printer itself rather than from a PC connected to the printer?

    Hi ngrammes!
If you are using AirPrint (printing directly from the iPad) there is unfortunately no way to change the print settings at this time. AirPrint is a fairly new service of Apple's that our printer's support and they may add more features with newer versions of the iOS.
Let me know if this helps!

  • Fatal error on Deskjet F2430 when printing fast draft of Adobe reader document

Printed the first couple of lines and then freezes with fatal error lights blinking.  I tried reseting it a couple of times like the online trouble shooter recommends.  Finally I turned off fast draft and it worked fine.  Any ideas what the problem is?

There is a known issue with Adobe Reader 10.1.2.
The new version contains an option to "print on both sides of the paper" - this option is ticked by default and causes an error on some models of printer that don't have the ability to duplex print.
When selecting File > Print - look about half way down the dialog box and you should see an option for "print on both sides of the paper" with a ticked box.
Take the tick out of this box and then try printing again. It should work correctly now.

  • Yosemite/Office Jet J3600 fast draft

    Hello,
I recently upgraded to a new mac with Yosemite. I successfully installed my old printer, an HP OfficeJet J3600. However I do not have an option for fast draft/b/w printing.
The Presets pull down has Default Settings, Last Used Settings, Save Current as Preset, and Show Presets. The pull down menu under Orientation has Layout, Color Matching, Paper Handling, Paper Feed and Cover Page.
I believe the menu option that I'm looking for is Print Quality. Does this no longer exist? I hate to waste ink, and I especially don't want to waste color ink when i just need a draft.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi @robynw414 ,
Thank you for joining us on the HP Forums today, hope you enjoy your time with us!
I understand you are trying to perform the fast draft option and it is not there.
I believe you are performing the correct steps to get to the the fast draft preset option. Just to make sure you are all up to date with the drivers please follow the steps below.
    1. Do all Apple updates.
    2. Reboot your computer.
    3. Remove your printer from "Printers and Scanners" and then Re-add it after.
Send screenshots of what you are doing to get to the presets menu so I can see. Look forward to hearing back from you.

  • Fast draft for Mac OS X 10.9.4

    Hello there,
I am trying to set my new HP Envy 4500 printer to default in "fast draft" (or equivalent) mode to save on ink, on my Mac.
I have downloaded the driver and software, and have been unable to locate printer preferences option to make the change.
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi @sreeds
If you can not find the fast draft option, you may be using the Apple AirPrint driver rather than the HP printer driver.
Please complete the following steps and let me know if you have the fast draft option.
Let's reset the printing system, repair disk permissions, and re-add the printer using the right driver.
    Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
    Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer and add the printer back.
When you add the printer, please ensure you are using the HP driver, not the AirPrint driver.
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you can select the printer driver
I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Changing Print Mode to Draft

Can not pre-set print quality to draft or any other mode other than middle position (Canon MP 780). Can change it for each individual printing but reverts after done. No pop-up or pop-down window is found the change the pre-sets. What am I missing?

I just tested this on my MP970. Using TextEdit, I opened the Quality & Media > Print Mode section and enabled Detailed Setting. I then moved the Print Quality slider to the left position (Fast) and saved this as a Preset of Draft.
Printed the document, which looked like a draft print, and then quit TextEdit. I then opened TextEdit again, chose Draft from the Presets menu and printed in draft mode.
In testing I agree that when the Standard setting is shown in the Presets menu, and printing the document again, the previous settings are not kept. But if you change the Preset menu to 'Last Settings Used' or the manually created preset, the document does print with the desired settings.
So if you create a Preset or try the 'Last Settings Used', does your print come out as expected? I am not sure what you mean about the 'No pop-up or pop-down window...'

  • Setting fast draft as default

    Hey Guys/Girls,
Just had a quick question. Is there any way to set fast draft as the default printing.  I have tried, set a preset, but can't set as default.  If any one can help at all its greatly appreciated.
    Specs.
    MS Word 2008
    OS X 10.7.2
Macbook Pro [Early 2011 (First introduction of Thunderbolt)]
    Printer:
    HP Photosmart D110
    Latest HP software installed
    Thanks,
    Surfer

I don't have an HP but you can change that in the PPD. The ppd is usually gzipped so unzip it. Look for OutputMode key or any key they use for print quality. Then look for Default key. If the key is OutputMode, then you're looking for DefaultOutputMode. Change the value to Fast instead of Normal. You will need to readd your printer queue and choose your modified ppd.
    Does this help?

  • My 4630 printer only prints the first page and then cancels

My 4630 printer only prints the first page and then cancels the rest of the document. I have to manually choose to print one page at a time. If I try to print a document, it prints the first page and then cancels printing the rest of it. It's driving me crazy. I just bought this printer and, other than that, it works fine. I tried the HOTFIX link that was attached to a previous link as well as other microsoft updates, however, am still having no luck.

  • What uses less ink, plain paper fast draft, or photo paper best.

What uses less ink, plain paper fast draft, or photo paper best.  I'm not looking for quality, just less ink used.  I also used photo paper, then selected plain paper fast draft.  Not great quality, as expected, but still looking to use less ink.  My guess is the plain paper uses more, because it is more porous. My printer is an hp Deskjet 2050.  My operating system is, 64-bit Intel Core I-7-2670 QM.
    Thank You for any assistance

The printer will put droplets of ink on the page based on what it detects the media is (for printers with "Automatic" as a paper type) or the specified media in the driver.
If you select plain paper, draft and print on photo paper it would use the same amount of ink as if you put in plain paper.  The results are likely to be very very poor if you do that, for several reasons:
The pigmented black ink is not compatible with photo paper, it will not dry properly.  When photo media is selected the printer will not use the pigmentd black ink even to print text, it will mix color to make black.
It takes much more ink to give proper photo settings on photo paper as compared to plain paper.  Using plain paper draft settings is likely to result in an unusable photo paper page, ruining a $1 sheet of photo paper to save a $0.20 worth of ink - not a good tradeoff.
If you plan to print a lot of photo's you might consider a printer that uses the HP Ink advantage subscription service.  This service is based on pages printed, and they count photo pages the same as plain paper, even though a full page photo may use 10x or more the ink of a plain paper text page.

  • How do I print just 1 web page in FF 29 ? With 29 you can only change the first field ( 1 of 5, 2 of 5, 3 of 5, etc. ) That means I can only print all 5 pages,

So I cant seem to print just the 1st of 5 pages. The default setting , 1 of 5, will print all 5 pages. The 2nd field can not be altered, as it could in previous FF versions, to 1 of 1. Therefore, I can only print all 5 pages, 2 through 5, 3 through 5, etc. WTF - I keep wasting print paper. I got the print edit add-on but that doesn't seem to help. I have been through several FF versions and do not like the format of 29.

Actually, with the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/print-edit/ Print Edit addon], if I click the down arrow I get the old print format options and can do it.
