C6280 explanation point

My HP Photosmart C6280 All-in-One printer has been great for my home office for years.  However in the last few days, when I plug it in, it is completely dead except the red "!" button on the left of the control panel.  The on/off button does nothing.  The screen says nothing.  My computer says it is "off-line."  I tried opening and closing every compartment that I could fine.  There doesn't appear to be any paper jams or anything physically wrong with the printer.  Any ideas on what else I can try before treating it as a very large paper weight on my desk?  Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Hi @MarcKar  , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you are experiencing power up issues.  I would love to try and help you!
I would recommend starting by removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would then suggest plugging the printer power into a different wall outlet.
Please let me know what you find. Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!

  • C6280 HP Solution Center will not run or install

I have been using my C6280 on my home network for years with Solution Center intalled on a desktop running Vista andtwo laptops running Windows 7 with only the print drivers installed. HP Update was eanbled on the desktop.
In the past two or three months, I started to get a number of error messages on my desktop indicating there was something wrong with Solution Center. The issue steadily worsened to the point where Solution Center would not run at all (unable to detect device seemed to be the most recurrent message) and I was unable to run the scanner.
I was able to maintain printer fnctionality by deleting and then adding the printer through Windows, although I seemed to be forced to do this every few days.
I went on the forum and decided the best course of action to restore full functionality was to uninstall all HP software and then download/install the software suite. I downloaded the Vista 32 bit version  (100_228_PS_AIO_02_Full_Net_enu_NB.exe) andI tried installation several times with no luck - the installation always seemed to get stuck immediately after extracting files.
I went back on the forum and found out how to do a level 4 uninstall from a temp folder beginning with 7z... . I did that and tried again (after checking that my Adobe Flash was up to date).  The install went a little further this time but eventually stopped again. File not found.  I ran the installation .exe from the temp file and went a little further but stopped again. An error log was created and a 'fix' was placed on my desk top. I followed the instructions but the 'fix' did nothing (it was just a text file - nothing to run that I could decypher). Just to make sure I was doing it right, I repeated the entire uninstall/download/reinstall process two more times with the same result.
The above process was beginning to remind me of Einstein's defiition of insanity (do ing the same thing over and over and expecting different resuts) so I gave up and successfully downloaded and installed the printer drivers to restore print functionality.
How do I get my scan functionality back?
    Thanks

  • How do I get my HP Photosmart C6280 All-In-One to scan?

I have updated to Mac OS 10.9 the driver for my HP Photosmart C6280 All-In-One, but the scanner function no longer works.  The Apple update list shows the update was performed on October 30.
The printer does not show up in the list of printers as a "Bonjour"  printer, as the instructions from HP's website indicate it should.

    Hi there,
I understand you're having issues printing/scanning with your Photosmart C6280 since upgrading the 10.9 on your Mac. I would like to help you with this as best I can.
The reason your having issues is because the HP software you're using is not designed for the 10.9 operating system. The last full software package HP released for the Photosmart C6280 was for 10.6, so the best option at this point would be to use the in operating system drivers.
To get everything to work properly again, I'm going to link you to how to completely remove the HP software so you can use the Apple software as Sunshyn2005 has described in her post. Once you follow those steps to begin using the Apple software you may not know how to scan using the Apple software and you can learn 3 different ways to do so.
I hope this helps, have a great weekend!

  • Fatal error installing C6280

Receive fatal error during install of latest Photosmart C6280 driver. Error occurs during the last step of installation... Configuring Product... receive same error trying to install latest software for Officejet 6500N.
Running Windows 7, service pack 1.
Have uninstalled and reinstalled countless times with same error.
Installing under administrator. Have uninstalled and disabled security softwares (McAfee and Windows Defender) and have tried installing in safe mode. Have disabled all services except Microsoft with msconfig, and recieve same error.
Error message has no number asociated with it... just says fatal error, which comes up after a minute or so of last step of install which is Configuring Product.
HP Solution software says it can't run because installation was incomplete.
Same results trying to install my Officejet 6500N... same error at same install point... same error message.
Both printers are excellent devices, and I'd like to continue using them.
    Thanks for any assistance.

I would also like to update this request by adding I am having same issue trying to reinstall my officejet 6500n.
Sounds like same problem.  No 4 digit error code. Windows 7. Used event viewer to find the code 1359. This one is not on your list. Followed another error code instructions.  Like Oriignal poster, I diabled services and start up, re-registered 'Atl.dll' and unregistered and re-registered 'msiexec'. I have used the original disk as well as the newest downloadable drivers.
I have also attepmted the workaround offered by dowloading and installing basic print and scan drivers.  I get the same error message as I did in the full installation attmept.

  • HP photosmart C6280 shut down during scan session

I was scanning with my HP Photosmart C6280 yesterday when it threw a tantrum.  It refused to scan. The buttons on the unit were totally unresponsive (on/off, scan and arrow keys---none of them worked); and it went into a loop of printing self-diagnostic pages (2 pages) which basically said that nothing was wrong.  I shut down the computer and unplugged the printer.  When I plugged the unit back in and turned on the computer, everything seemed back to normal...at least for a couple more scans.  Then it threw the ultimate tantrum.  It powered itself off, again the buttons on the unit were useless, and left the "!" orange light on (not blinking).  I shut the computer down and unplugged the printer and left it overnight.  This morning I plugged in the printer and powered up the computer and all I get from the printer is the solid orange exclamation (!) point and no way to turn it on or even receive error messages because buttons are once again unresponsive.  Went to see the on-line manual for the printer and it was useless.   If I try going in through the computer control panel, it just says the printer is off-line. Looks like it just died on me.

Your suggestion:"The most likely cause for a printer hangup like this, would be inconsistent power. Do you have the printer plugged directly into a wall outlet? The printer has a power moderator built in, so if it is plugged into a surge protector or battery backup, it may not be able to pull the power fast enough. I'd also check the USB port you have the printer plugged into on the computer. Is the plastic piece inside the port, blue or black. If it is blue, try switching it to an alternate USB port with that is black. The blue inserts generally indicate a USB 3.0 connection, which can also cause power surges from the computer to the printer." Intermittent power is NOT the problem.  The printer won't respond to ANY commands.  It won't turn on.  The orange exclamation point (!) won't go off...and NONE of the buttons work.  I have turned off the computer; disconnected all the cables; checked all the cables; re-attached the cables; powered up the computer and still nothging works. I can't troublshoot it from my computer because it won't turn on...I already tried. By the way, your suggestion which I quoted above, is word-for-word the EXACT same thing I was told when I was trying to update the drivers on this printer.  (That answer seems to be the printer equivalent of the answer you get when you have a computer problem  i.e. "make sure you delete all temporary files and cookies").   It didn't help then and it didn't help now.  At least when I was trying to do the driver updating, the printer still able to be powered up.   I ended up working the update problem out on my own...and probably couldn't do it again if I had to.  I think computers and printers are engineered with "planned obsolescence" built in.  We got this printer in 2007 and HP thinks 7-8 yrs is too long to own one printer.  Have also noticed that every time a new printer comes out, it doesn't take any of the same cartridges as the old one did...even though it's probably all the same ink. There seems to be a LOT of people having printer problems...just going by the number of posts that have shown up on this forum since I posted early yesterday.

  • Photosmart C6280 won't print after trying to clear library/startupitems error

I have had a Library/Startupitems error ever since updating my HP software a couple of years ago.  In trying to finally resolve this issue myself, the HP website suggested removing and reinstalling the software.  There is no active link within the HP support pages for a download.  I found a C6200 series driver online, which I've installed, but now I cannot print anything but a test page, and I still have the Library/Startupitems error.  As it is, I cannot even find that file at all to fix the error.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi @Eric_V67
Since the C6280 doesn't have full feature software and drivers, I can't image the error is stemming from the printer. I can however, provide you with instructions to remove ALL HP software including the HP driver that was provided from the apple software update.
If I understand one of your previous messages, it looks like perhaps you had this printer installed previously and then upgraded the Mac OS. If this is the case, then old software that was previously compatible could be the root cause.
Once the HP software and drivers are removed, you can restart the computer and see if the error persists. The final step would then to be reinstall the Apple software update.
Follow the instructions below. I apologize in advanced this is not a fun task! I will try to make it easy to follow. Some of the files described in the following steps may not be found, if you can't find one of the files or folders on your computer, don't be alarmed.
Move the files and/or folders to the trash, drag and drop
    Macintosh HD/Applications//Hewlett-Packard folder
Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/ - delete all files and folders regarding HP/Hewlett Packard
In Macintosh HD/Library/Caches - delete all files and folders regarding HP/Hewlett Packard
Macintosh HD/Library/Documentation/Help/ - delete all files and folders regarding HP/Hewlett Packard
    Macintosh HD/Library/Frameworks/HPServicesInterface.framework
    Macintosh HD/Library/Frameworks/HPSmartX.framework
    Macintosh HD/Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources/HP Scan Pro
In Macintosh HD/Library/Image Capture/Scripts - delete all files and folders regarding HP/Hewlett Packard
In Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences - delete all files and folders regarding HP/Hewlett Packard
Move Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/loginwindow.plist to the desktop. NOTE: Not removing the file loginwindow.plist during the manual uninstall could cause the uninstall to be unsuccessful.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Printer/hp - delete folder
In Macintosh HD/Library/StartupItems, drag the following folders to the trash, HP IO and HP Trap Monitor
In Macintosh HD/Users/USERNAME (this should have a symbol of a house next to it)/Library/Preferences, drag the following folders to the trash: *Any files beginning with com.apple.print, *Any files beginning with com.hp, *Any files beginning with Hewlett-Packard, *Any files beginning with HP or hp
In MacintoshHD/Users/USERNAME/Library/Printers, drag any All-in-One printers listed here into the trash.
Drag the HP icons from the Dock and drop it on an empty space on the desktop. The icon will disappear.
    Close all open windows.
Restart the computer. - The startup error may be gone now.
    Empty the Trash.
If the error is indeed gone, download and install the HP Printer Drivers for OS X and you should now be able to print and the start up error should cease to exist. If the error is still present, proceed to the next set of steps.
Remove the print driver and other software from a computer.
From the computer desktop, double-click the Macintosh HD  icon.
    Double-click the Library folder.
    Double-click the Printers folder.
Right-click the HP folder, and then select Move to Trash.
When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password for the computer, and then click OK. Wait for authentication to complete.
    Double-click the PPDs  folder.
    Double-click the Contents  folder.
    Double-click the Resources  folder.
Locate your printer in the printer list, and then right-click on your printer and select Move to Trash.
When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password for the computer, and then click OK. Wait for authentication to complete.
Click the Trash icon on the taskbar, click the Empty  button, and then click OK to empty the trash.
NOTEBy clicking OK, all items in your trash will be permanently deleted from your computer. To delete one item in the trash, click that item to highlight it, and then click OK.
On the upper-left corner of the computer desktop, click the Apple menu icon, and then click System Preferences on the drop-down menu.
    Double-click Print & Scan.
In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button to delete it.
Restart the computer and now you have a fresh start. - The start up error should be gone now (If the error is gone now, there is no need to proceed to the repair Disk Permissions step, instead simply download the HP Printer Drivers for OS X.
After logging in, Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click  Applications, and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer .
Restart the computer - At this point you should no longer see the startup error
Download and install the HP Printer Drivers for OS X, once the install is successful we can then delete the loginwindow.plist from the desktop.
If by chance you still see the error please post a screenshot of it so I can continue to work with you towards a complete solution!!

  • End point proble,

I have a HP desktop that came loaded with windows 8. It was connected to a HP C6280 all in 1 and worked with no issues. Since the 8.1 update it will not print and I get an errror code for not having an end point also the print spooler will not turn on. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello @njlawman413 , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you are experiencing software issues.  I would like to help with that.
I would suggest Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once it is uninstalled, I would suggest putting your system into clean boot mode within the Microsoft configuration.  You can do so by following this document: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Once the computer is in clean boot mode, I would suggest reinstalling the HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Photosmart C6280 Grinding Noise while printing

    Hello everyone,
Own a HP Photosmart C6280 printer. It jammed once but after unjamming the printer has been making a grinding noise (metal-on-metal) whenever I start to print. On occassion it goes away but comes back quickly.
Is there some alignment problem with some of the shafts, gears, etc in the printer that can be easily fixed, or will it require a trip to the shop?
    Appreciate the help!

    HI there,
The printer may require servicing however first we can use this article that covers paper jams to inspect the various points that could cause the sounde. Check the gears and rollers to ensure there are no debris and that they are clean. Let us know if it helps.
    Best of Luck!

  • In order to create space on my MBA I just bumped iTunes media to G drive linked through Time Capsule.  Now pointed iTunes at new iTunes libary on G drive and, even though all music files are there, iTunes can only 'see' 10 albums. Any help appreciated.

    Bit more detail...
Mac Book Air has been struggling for space for a while so I bough at time capsule a) for back up and b) to host my itunes folder remotely.  This didnt' work.  I took it into the Genius bar and the genius there told me that time capsule is not designed for anything other than back up.  Instead I have to connect a G drive through the time capsule's wireless router to my MBA.
I followed his instructions - moved my files from the Time Capsule and MBA directly onto the G Drive - which took a heartening 2 hrs so something must have been happening - and the held down 'Alt' when starting iTunes and selected the new itunes folder as the location of my itunes libarary which I wanted iTunes to 'point at'.  When I opened iTunes only 10 albums are visible now.
In ITunes advanced preferences it says it is pointing at the correct folder.  The files are all cleary there when I open the G Drive folder to take a look.  But I cannot get iTunes to find them.
    Any suggestions?
Secondary challenge - in spite of deleting the original itunes folder on my MBA I still get messages pop up telling me my start up disk is out of space and I need to clear some - I expected to stop getting this message now I had done this exercise above.  I have emptied Trash.  Again - any pointers appreciated.  I am new to this world of 'intuitive' macbooks.
    Cheers

After admittedly only a quick read the one thing you don't say is how you are trying to make this move.  Most people with moving library issues do it the wrong way.  Plenty of web sites tell you how to do it the wrong way.
If the iTunes application is started before the drive with the library is fully mounted and awake iTunes will revert back to the internal drive.

  • After Drive Replacement, iTunes Points To Wrong Folder Even After Adjusting Settings

I moved my music to a new hard drive. I then adjusted settings within iTunes to "point" to the folder on the new drive. The folder name is identical as are all the files within it. I did this a few months back and had no issues once iTunes "located" my files. All files played, playlists remained intact. This time however only a small portion of my files successfully "located" and the remaining 75% are unplayable. When "shown in finder", the unplayable tracks point to a completely random folder within my mail folder of obviously non-music files. I've been searching for weeks how to fix this to no avail. I definitely do not want to lose my playlists, play counts, etc. so starting from scratch with iTunes is not an option for me. Please advise how to fix this very odd issue!
    iMac 3.4 Ghz i7
    OSX 10.8.5
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 (just updated)

To resolve this we will need details.  I don't know exactly what is where.  Even though it "worked last time" I see people post with that and almost invariably there is something different in the scenario this time.
The iTunes application alone has no idea where media files are.  You could drag all the media folders you like to the Media folder and it won't know.  You could "point" iTunes to that folder in preferences and it still will never look there.  iTunes knows where files are because as you add them to iTunes it puts them in the Media folder and makes a note in that .itl file where the files are located.  When you try to play a track iTunes looks up in the .itl file which media file it should try to play when you request the track and goes to that location to play the file.  If there file isn't there you get !  You have to mend the links one by one, or iTunes might try, based on you repairing links. to repair other links, but it doesn't usually work that way and is only partly successful at times (as we have already discussed).  If you have ever walked into a store and see an empty shelf but their web site says they have 3 in stock and the sales person says all their stock is out on the shelf, iTunes is like that.
Here's a bunch of links on how iTunes works.  As you can see, an entire library is a whole bunch of files and support folders working in concert and when they get split up iTunes starts misbehaving.

However when I compile the release version, and install on my windows, I get this error:
    Send failed
    Channel.Connect.Failed error NetConnection.Call.Failed: HTTP: Status 404: url: 'http://localhost/client_folder/app_name-debug/gateway.php'
I have already configured the services-config.xml to point to my gateway.php and the amf_config.ini to point to my framework.
(I hope end users won't have to set it manually)
Still, I'm getting this error pointing to an absolute path to reach the gateway.php
Is it something I should declare in action script to make it a relative path? I have checked the $variables to replace in the Server Output Folder path, but maybe this is not related to my issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    Btp~

Tap on the blue arrow for the network in the lst, and it should take you to the details page.
There a button there labeled Forget this network. Tap it. go back to the network list and choose the network again.

  • Songs that I have purchased are missing in iTunes (file not found/exclmation point), and do not show up in the iTunes Store for download.

I have a laptop that has (or had) pretty much all of my music, both burned from CDs and downloaded from iTunes. My 17 year old son on occasion syncs his iPhone and iPad with this laptop. As of the last sync (as best I can determine), many songs that I purchased in the past few years are now missing, in that they have an exclamation point to the left of the song title, and when I try to play the song, I get an error message that says "The song could not be used because the original file could not be found" or something to that effect. As it turns out, the file seems to be erased. This has happened multiple times, and I could be wrong, but I believe that there are some songs that had the exclmation point last time he synced that now don't, and vice-versa. There is not an obvious correlation or grouping as to why these songs are missing (e.g,. they were not all purchased on the same date, not all songs from one artist are missing, etc.).
Since most of these songs have been purchased through iTunes through my account, my reaction was to go to the iTunes store, log in with my account, and re-download them. Problem is, all of these songs instead ask me to purchase the song, instead of displaying a "cloud" logo. Therefore, it appears that I have to re-purchase these songs, which does not sound correct.
Questions: Does anyone know, most importantly (to get an immediate fix):
    1. How can I re-download these songs and why doesn't iTunes Store recognize that I have already purchased them?
and perhaps as important (more of a long-term question):
    2. Why does this happen and how can I prevent this from happening again (since it has happened multiple times)?
    Thanks.

    1. iTunes won't offer cloud downloads for songs that it "thinks" are in your library, even if it "knows" the files are missing. If you've exhaustively searched for the missing files and there is no prospect of repair by restoring to them to their original locations, or connecting to new ones, then delete that tracks that display both the missing exclamation mark and are of media kind Purchased/Protected AAC audio file. Don't hide from iTunes in the cloud when asked, close iTunes, then reopen. You can download from the cloud links or iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer > All songs > Download all.
    2. Why? Not sure, perhaps 3rd party tools or accidental key presses combined with previously hidden warning messages when trying to organize the library. There is a hint that using the feature to downsample media as it is synced to a device may also be involved, though I've not replicated it. Whatever the reason a backup would protect your media.

  • Safari won't open and wheel (mouse pointer) keeps spinning

    Hi guys.
I'm going crazy here as everything I've read and tried doesn't work?
I've deleted cache files, history, plug-ins etc etc and every time I try and launch Safari, I keep getting the spinning wheel/beach ball/mouse pointer and safari doesn't open?
I've received the following long error message and it may as well be in Arabic as I haven't got a clue what it means?
Any techies out there who could shed some light "Error message for dummies' style please?
    This is the report error.
    Cheers,
    Marc

You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
