C648Max-L - D-ROM and CD?DVD ATAPI Incompatible?

Charley Bill
[email protected]
Garden Grove, CA USA
MB 648 Max-L (648.5.1)  (MS-6585)
BIOS is v. 1.50 and online v. is 1.50
CPU_P-4 2..4MHz Socket 478
RAM:  1.5GB This is better quality RAM, but I don’t know the specifics
HDD_2-80GB Maxtor HDD 7200RPM ATA 133 2 MB cache
DVD+RW is NEC EIDE and ATAPI
CD/ROM is Lite-On 56X ATAPI
VIDEO is Radeon 7500 by Sapphire with 64 MB RAM and dual output
PS Enermax EG365P-VE
NIC is SMC 1255TX
OS is Windows XP Pro without SP-1 (no CD-ROM!)
I am building a system with this MB.  After reinstalling Windows XP Pro the BIOS stops in boot, gives an error message on the CD/ROM ands CD/DVD/RW drives - 'ATAPI Incompatible'
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?  I applied the BIOS Update with Live Update, but that did not fix it.
I am thinking I should restore the BIOS to the one shipped in the MB and then try to update again?  Is this a good idea? Can it be done?  Could you please tell me how, or if you have a better way to do it, please let me know.
Any help would be much appreciated.  I am an old guy just learning how to work these things and find putting them together is fascinating.  I don't overclock or anything like that-yet.  The more I learn, the more I want. . . . I totally lack formal schooling in PCs, have some experience with hardware, but consider myself a novice and would appreciate detailed instructions, if you could be so kind.

Assaf, you were right on about the connection, but how could you guess that I was trying to use those nice new round cables for HDD that are supposed to enhance airflow?  I had managed to get the jumpers right, somehow.
When I found an old style flat 40 pin cable, the drives came back.  I had to set the BIOS for CD/DVD, not AUTO, but the problem is solved.
Many thanks for getting me in the right direction - it worked!
Now if I can just find the device driver that keeps crashing my system.  That is what Windows reports, but it doesn't identify which driver and there are beaucoup on the system. Any good ideas for finding an errant device driver?

  • I have a DVD-Rom and DVD-Video card for Powerbook and need advice

I acquired 2 accessory components for a G3 series powerbook. I have a dual G4 so have no use for them. There is a M4743 DVD-Rom for Powerbook and a DVD-Video PC card for G3 series Powerbook family M5163. There is also a software CD. I would like to sell them but I really don’t how to explain what this stuff does. I tried Ebay and did not find any matches. Does this make a DVD upgrade for a particular Powerbook? Is something else required? Is Ebay the best place to sell? Any idea what this stuff is worth? Any advice would be greatly appreciated
    Bob

    Robert,
You apparently have the DVD Video Player Kit for the Powerbook G3 Series "Wallstreet" M4753.
    This is the DVD-ROM module:
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1/customer/product.php?productid=16219&cat=26 6&page=1
This is the DVD Decoder PC card:
    http://www.ifixit.com/cart/customer/product.php?productid=296&cat=&page=1
The above DVD PC card is not Apple's but there were two third-party vendors who also offered a DVD kit...VST and MCE. They all served the same purpose and will all be priced similarly.
Both PC card and optical drive are required to play DVD movies on the Wallstreet, plus Apple DVD Player is only supported when booted to 9.x, not 10.x.
I really cannot give you a fair price to ask; the above hardware prices are probably high but you will get an idea.

I know it is frustrating but no need to shout. I am going to assume you have MS Vista but that is a guess since you do not tell us anything about the computer.
    Auto fix
Go to the page linked above and read carefully. There is an automatic fix and then instructions for editing the registry. This works to correct your problem maybe 60% of the time. It can also be a hardware problem but try this first. Post back if you need more help (lower case, please).

  • CD-ROM and DVD drives recognised but not working after iTunes uninstall

I recently uninstalled iTunes. The CD-ROM and DVD drives are present on "My Computer" but will not recognise when a CD or DVD is inserted into the drive.
According the the Device Manager both are working propoerly. I already tried Update Driver, Roll Back Driver and Uninstall Driver but continue to have the problem.
    Any ideas please?

Has anyone found a solution to this? I'm running into the same problem. My DVD drive can read CD's but no DVDs at all. I tried all the suggestions like deleting the System Registers and loading new drivers/firmware, etc, and nothing. This all started after installing iTunes!

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

Yes, if you have access to another computer with an optical drive. You can connect the two computers via your home network and use File Sharing to transfer the installer to your HDD. You can also use:
DVD or CD sharing- Using Remote Disc
Remote Disc, Migration, or Remote Install Mac OS X and wireless 802.11n networks

  • Director Movies as ROM content in DVD-Video?

Only just bought Director MX Studio 2004, and recieved the
    package today.
My Graphics partner is very excited!
But anyway - what I am wondering is if it is possible to
create Director Movies that can be added to DVD-Video discs in the
ROM folder so that they will play on computer based DVD-ROM drives.
If this is something that can be done - complete with the
.exe file (as well as a Mac equivalent?) then this is indeed going
    to be fun.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible please? And if it is,
how I would go about it? (Apart from RTFM of course!)

Welcome to the world that is director, hold tight, its about
    to get hairy!
I maybe misinterpreting your post here but here gos anyway,-
Think of Director as an application creating piece of kit. It
essentially allows you to generate multimedia and deliver it in
several ways. As far as DVD is concerned, it is a common
misconception that director can create DVD material. So when you
say 'Director Movies as ROM content in DVD-Video?' This is a
definate NO. In fact its just the opposite, Director can only
    showcase DVD video.
Ive created several DVD-roms in the past that when played
back on a pc or mac, will present the director application (text,
pictures, swf animations, interactivity etc...) as well as DVD
material. This is created by adding a DVD asset and then pointing
to the DVD folder contaning all the VOB files etc. To authour this,
you then include the DVD video material along with your DVD-rom.
Now you can do several things with the DVD video such as
control the playback, speed, audiochannel, chapter etc... as well
as fire off events as and when you require them..
I suggest you prob futher into this subject, you will find
all the information you need on the abode site and this forum,
    heres a starting point-
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/director/articles/dvd.html.
You may also want to look up the DVD events manager.
Good luck with this, used correctly its a very powerful
    tool.

  • CD ROM content in DVD Studio Pro

    Hi.
Does anyone know if it's possible to include content from a CD ROM created in Director in a DVD to be created in DVD Studio Pro? There's all the usual stuff -
    - an .exe file
    - a folder called DATA with all the images, sounds and video content in it
    - a load of dxr files, which (I think) represent the pages of the CD ROM
I know I'll be able to get the job done by recreating the CD ROM functionality using DVD Studio, but if there's a way to do this more quickly, I'd obviously prefer that.
    cheers...
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

you can include it on the rom side of the disc.

  • [845 Series] 845PE and SATA DVD Burner, am I missing something here?

    Hello all,
I seem to be finding a lot of people with issues regarding Plextor SATA drives, but I may just not have the right mobo to do what I want, maybe someone can help me figure this out.
    Here are my basic specs:
    845PE Max2 mobo
    3 HDD(Don't think brand/capacity matters here)
    1 DVD ROM drive
I have 2 of my HDD hooked up to my Primary IDE channel, and the DVD ROM hooked up to my Secondary IDE channel, and I have the third HDD hooked up to the extra IDE channel set up for RAID on this motherboard, but when I hook up the Plextor burner to my SATA channel 1, it doesn't show up ANYWHERE.
    Here are my questions:
Can I use an optical SATA drive with this board, or will it only work with HDD's?
If I CAN use an optical drive, are the SATA channels hooked up somehow with the third IDE channel (In other words, is the fact that I have an IDE drive already on the third channel negating the SATA channels in the firsat place?)?
If the HDD IS what is causing the SATA drive not to show up, will moving it to the slave position on my Secondary IDE channel fix this, and if so, will my drive letter change?
I sure hope this isn't covered somewhere else in the forums, but I really didn't see MY exact problem anywhere.
I appreciate any and all help that you folks can provide!
    Thanks!
    Mike Wells

Your MOBO does not seem to be on the list as compatible with SATA Plextor optical drives. Of course, you could use a PCI card (SATA) in your machine.
Here are links to Plextor's MOBO compatability list:

Hi guys, we ofter met problems in using iPod, such as when we meet with a beloved movies we are in trouble to enjoy it on our iPod. Thus I write this document that shows how to rip and convert DVDs or other videos to your iPod MP4.

Thanks! But when I visit the site recently, I found the program was upgraded. Now it has 2 optimized output formats specially made for iPod 30G and 60G players! Thus it is easier and more convenient to use without complex settings as other software. Try it at http://www.imtoo.com/downloads/dvd-to-ipod.converter.exe
Another good news: there was a new discount suite ImTOO DVD to iPod Suitethat contains both the DVD to iPod Converter and iPod Movie Converter. It saves newly $20! Hope this can do some help

I am running Mac OSX 10.4.11. According to the System profiler the CD/DVD drive is a "PioneerDVD-RWDVR-112D." When I compare the information under this heading, the only unusual difference from my iMac is that the G5 reads "Burn Support: Yes (Unsupported)." My iMac reads "Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)."
Under the System Preferences the options are set to "Ask what to do" when a blank CD or DVD is inserted. Music CD set to open iTunes, Picture CD set to open iPhoto, Video DVD set to open DVD player.

  • Satellite P200-1B6: Sound Driver update fails and HD-DVD Player doesn't work

I have just bought a Satellite P200-1B6 laptop and spent the day installing the updates recommended by the TEMPO program. One of these was a Sound Driver update from RealTek but on running this it fails about 80% of the way through with an error: 'Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !!'.
Now the Toshiba HD DVD player fails to start with an error 'Unable to output the video to an external device.
Please switch your display device by pressing the Fn + F5 keys after ending the application'. I've tried this but it seems to have no effect.
I'm now regretting starting to update the installed drivers. Should I try to rebuild the machine using the recovery discs or is there another solution that someone has found? Or have others found the upgrade works?
    Any advice welcome

Last month I upgraded my PC Satellite P200 (BIOS, Driver ATI HD2600, Package VAP and HD-DVD Player).
But after this update, I was no longer be able to read my HD-DVDs
Error message was: "Unable to send the video to an external device. Please turn off the display device."
The problem was much of the update Realtek R1.76 (Realtek Sound Driver - 6.0.1.547 - 20/11/07) currently proposed on the site toshiba.
Indeed, the P200-1DE is equipped with Realtek ALC268 Audio Codec.
The latest update of this codec is R1.89. I downloaded from the site Realtek and it has allowed me to solve the problem.

what RBRY says. Look at the fine print on your power brick. It says 100v-240v. This means it can handle world wattage.....both the us 110 and the UK/and other places 220. Anything that displays that range works anywhere in the world with the right plug adapter.
You can get plug adapters at walgreens, walmart, target, kmart, best buy, office max, office depot.....almost any major retailer. Look in the travel/luggage area.
Do some googling and find out what Italian plugs look like or you can simply find a kit that is a 'world wide' kit.
