C655-S5132 FREEZES

Hello!
I've had this laptop (Satellite C655-S5132)  for quite a while now and it's pretty old. It has all it's original hardware. Recently, I did a full system wipe of everything on this laptop (because it was so slow it would take a minute to change the font or font size on Word) and reinstalled Windows 7 on it. This laptop currently doesn't have that much on it because I want it to remain faster than it was because I know it doesn't have that much power and I don't want to overexert it again.
Anyways this is quite a new thing but whenenver I am watching a video or skyping someone the computer freezes! And the only way to get out of it is to do a force reboot. I don't understand what is happening and I would like someone to help me out?
Thank you very much in advance for your time!

We need to be able to test quickly whether or not the condition exists.
I can watch any video and it's guranteed to freeze on me.
So you cannot run the attached MPG file, right? (You need to unzip it first.)

  • Toshiba Satelitte C655-S5132 freezes at welcome screen

    Hi
I am having trouble getting my Toshiba Satelitte to get past the welcome screen.  It is getting hung up on the welcome screen after I put in my password.  It just never loads and I end up with a black screen.
I tried using the System Repair Disk  to do a system repair that came with  the system but the repair disk stops after a little while and displays the message : ... Unspecified error Ox8000ffff and asks me to try again using a different restore point.  I try a different restore point and I get the same error message.  After several attempts of trying to get a restore point, I gave up trying to use the system repair disk.
I am not sure what to try next.  Any help would be very appreciated.

    Hi Jerry:
Yes, I do have that disk.  I am just not sure which option I need to try next.  The system restore option did not work.  Start up repair did not find an issue. After running start up repair I get the message: "if you have recently attached a device to this computer such as a camera or portable music player remove it and restart your computer.... but there are no devices attached.
My disk has some slightly different wording but perhaps they are the same:
My disk has the following options in this order:
    1. Start up repair (did not have any effect on issue)
    2. system restore (after 7 tries with different restore points no luck)
    3. system image recovery (have not tried this yet)
    4. Windows memory diagnostic
    5. Command Prompt
    6. Toshiba recovery wizard (which asks for more disks that I do not have)
I am just not sure which is the best course to take from here.

  • Unable to install windows 8 to Sattelite c655-s5132

My laptops hard drive recently broke so i had to replace it. I purchased a solid state drive and I had installed linux mint 10. I got sick of the I put in a windows 8 disc and it wiped the hard drive but i couldnt install it because most of my drives partitons are in GPT style (I dont know what that means). So after some searching i found that i could fix this throught the bios menu. The problem was that I couldnt access the bios because i didnt have an operating system or the toshiba recovery media. I tried to install the toshiba recovery media but I got an error saying the "BIOS IS NOT UEFI" and even if i could access the bios i wouldnt have the password if there is one. So now im not sure what to do. I can boot stuff through the usb and disk tray still if that matters. I've spent about a week trying to fix this and any info about this at all would be appreciated.

If you want to keep fooling around you can of course, Shawn. But if you want to use that computer, it's best to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media.
If you failed to burn recovery discs, you can obtain them from Toshiba.

  • Microphone not working - Satellite C655-S5132 - Windows 7

I have a microphone plugged into my Satellite C655-S5132 which is running Windows 7.  I can't get it to record.
From Start I typed 'microphone' and selected 'Manage audio devices'.  Clicked the Recording tab.  Two microphones showed up which confuses me.  I didn't think there was an internal microphone.  I unplugged my microphone and one of the microphones on the tab became 'Not plugged in', so I plugged it in again and it became 'Default Device'.  From start I typed 'sound' and selected 'Sound Recorder'.  I clicked 'Start Recording' and spoke into the microphone.  I stopped the recording and saved into a .wma file.  When I play that file there is no sound.  The speakers are at 100%
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi have to know exactly what your seeing when you click on sound!! Please post a screen shot.

  • How to improve the screen and audio quality on my Satellite c655-s5132

I recently bought a used Satellite C655-S5132 laptop.  Although this machine is designed to run on Windows 7, it came equipped with Windows XP.  The machine runs OK except for the screen which shows a distorted image and the sound which is tinny and low volume.
I suspect this is due to a software shortcoming rather than a defect in any of the hardware.  The image distortion may be due to the fact that this laptop comes with a wide screen with an aspect ratio of 6:9, whereas the Windows XP operating system that is currently installed on this laptop is set at an aspect ratio of 4:3 and doesn't allow me to switch to the other aspect ratio.
As a result, the image fills the entire screen but appears to be stretched horizontally.  As for the audio, I checked the volume settings and they are all set at their upper limit.
    I have done the following:
    1.  I did a system check which shows that there are 2 drivers that need to be updated: video controller and video controller (VGA compatible).  But when I prompt the machine to install updated drivers it gives me a failure code 28 "device not installed properly".
    2. I ran 2 driver software programs: one shows that for both video controllers "the manufacturer is unknown" and "drivers are not installed", and the second shows that the driver is installed but needs to be updated.
    3. Searched the web for the right drivers and found that for this machine running on Windows XP (32 bit), Intel produces a graphic driver, GMA 4500.
    4. I tried to download this driver from the Intel website but the installation process failed. Perhaps it failed because Toshiba has specified a custom version of this graphic driver that can only be downloaded from its own website.
    5. I searched the Toshiba website but was unable to identify the drivers for sound and image for this machine.
Could anyone help me find the right drivers on the Toshiba website that would allow me to: (i) change the setting for the aspect ratio and in doing so get rid of the image distortion, as well as improve the overal picture quality, and (ii) increase the audio volume and improve the overall sound quality?
    Thank you.

My advice is to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All the drivers and utilities are properly preinstalled. Windows is preactivated.
You can obtain recovery discs from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here .

  • Toshiba C655-S5132 Please help

my sister has a laptop Toshiba C655-S5132 today it was fine, she closed the lid and when she reopened it it acted like it was froze up so she turned it off and back on, now it won't do anything except give her a black screen that says
    Check cable connection!
    PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
No bootable device --insert boot disk and press any key
she took the back off and unplugged the hard drive and put it back in and that didn't fix it, does anyone have any idea what has happened and how to fix this.
the startup disks that she made when she first got it says error and shuts down
    it has windows 7

Can she get into the BIOS? Usually this is done by tapping F2 while booting (or sometimes holding F2). If so, is the hard drive seen?

  • Toshiba Satellite C655 SP4168M freezes while playing a game

So i've been having problems with mi laptop very recently with a game i'm playing (League of legends), the game normally works perfectly, but at random times it just completely freezes (making an awkward sttutering sound) and i have to forcefully shutdown and restart the PC. It doesnt happen ALL the time, but when it happens it's really annoying, and i can either happen once every week, or several times daily. I already repaired the video driver but that didnt help, i was thinking about updating the BIOS; but cant find the correct version for my laptop, and i cant even be sure that's actually the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

try using a program like "Piriform Speccy" (free version), and monitor the CPU temps as you are using the system.  If it gets up into the orange and red while watching videos, you may need to apply fresh thermal paste to the CPU.
My old L355 is starting to freeze while watching youtube videos the other day, and just confirmed that the CPU is overheating.  Will be tearing it apart hopefully tonight to be cleaned up and have a fresh application of arctic silver on the CPU.

  • Satellite C655 S5132

I PURCHASED THE MEDIA RECOVERY DISKS WHICH ARE NO HELP TO ME. I HAVE LOADED THE DISK STARTING IN THE ORDER THAT THEY ARE LABLED. DISK #1 WAS LOADED, UNIT WAS OFF AND POWERED ON WITH ME HOLDING THE "C" KEY. THE CD DRIVE BEGAN TO READ THE DISK, RUNNING AND LOAD WINDOWS FILES. HOWEVER AFTER THE WINDOWS LOGO CAME ON THE SCREEN AND DISAPPEARED INSTANTLY WITH A CURSOR ON THE SCREEN. THE DRIVE STOP RUNNING AND I RECEIVED AND ERROR MESSAGE WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO SELECT OK AND THE COMPUTER WOULD POWER OFF. PLEASE ASSIST WITH A REASONABLE RESOLUTION.

    Dear Peter:
I have a similar problem with my C655.  It's a C655-S5340 and the hard drive crashed.  I never made a recovery disk, so I ordered the recovery disks from Toshiba.  I replaced the hard drive with a new one and when I have tried to use the recovery disks they don't work.  I followed the instructions that came with the 4 disks, and after the Satellite ejected the 4th disk, the message on the screen asked me to insert the next disk and click OK.  OK, now what?
I have tried this 4 times and I can't seem to make this work.  I have tried the F12 Boot Manager option to no avail.
    Please advise.
    Thank you.

  • Satellite C655-S5229 freezing constantly

This is a weird problem that has been the bane of my existance for the past few weeks.  Once in a while when turning the laptop on, it would freeze shortly after loading the desktop.  I would just hard shut down, and reboot and be on my merry way.  The problem has gotten more and more frequent, to the point where it is now every single time I trun it on.  HOWEVER it doen't happen when I load safe mode.
I have already checked for viruses with Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, AVG, Norton, and Spybot.  The system is clean.  RAM came back fine in memtest86, and there are no bad sectors on the hard drive.  Already ran SFC and that came back with all windows components being intact.
Any suggestions?  Trying to avoid reloading windows.

Harder to deal with recalcitrant drivers. This one is the most frequent source of trouble. Try reinstalling it.

  • Built in microphone C655-S5132

My microphone will do nothing, all tests and or drivers updated and working properly. Then I have a bigger problem I'm either deaf or mute, but my dogs hear me yelling "peter" I have had issues with "smart audio" b4. I'm reasonably computer savvy, Had an original 8086, with the maze of twisty passages, upgraded a 386 to a 486dx4100, and last year built 2 desktops from scratch. Why is "smart" audio not so smart. I never had these issues when I had to go into bios and manually set Cylinders,  heads, etc.
please help b4 I throw into a wall

    Did this just start happening?
If so, try using System Restore to restore a previous restore point from before this became an issue.
Also, was this the driver you tried?

  • Stop: C0000135 The program can't start because %hs is missing from your computer

Im helping my aunt work on her computer. When you turn it on it says Stop: C0000135 The program can't start because %hs is missing from your computer on a blue screen. Its a Satallite C655-S5132. Please help. Thanks

If you are able to actually log into your Aunt's computer in SAFE MODE, your need to run from a command window the chkdsk /f  press enter
It will prompt you to reboot and it will run chkdsk during reboot.
If it is unable to complete it is the hard drive.
    If it does complete, then:
Run chkdsk /r     from the command window press enter
It will prompt reboot and run during booting.
If it completes successfully great, if not then again it is a hard drive issue.
If you cannot log into your computer then follow these instructions:
Run check disk from Windows recovery environment. from recovery dvd
    1. Access Windows Recovery command  Run Check disk to fix any bad sectors on the hard drive.
    2. At the command prompt type chkdsk /f and then press enter.
    3. Now, type in chkdsk /r and then press enter.
I am also attaching a How-To-Document in Word 2003 for the above mentioned instructions.
    I hope this helps.

  • Sound Hotkey Not Working?!?!

Just bought a Satellite C655-S5132 and everything works great except the hotkey (Fn) + volume adjust (#3 , #4 up and down respectively)
I have gone and tested every other hotkey and have not had any problems.  I checked to make sure the audio drivers are correct and updated....?
I thought maybe it would only adjust the volume when there is a audio or video file playing but it doesn't work at all...?
Is there a way to configure or troubleshoot the hotkeys?
    Any thoughts?

    I would try reinstalling TVAP

  • Windows won't load! Help!

I have a Toshiba C655-S5132.  In the middle of doing a Windows upgrade, we lost power and now Windows won't load.  I have removed power cord, taken out the battery and turned back on (several times).
    I get
"Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware or software change might be the cause."
I have tried "Launch Startup Repair" and "Start Windows Normally" both several times.  Each time it says "Windows is loading files" and then goes to a black screen with only an arrow.
I don't know what to do next.
    Please help.
