C7-00 Symbian Belle Refresh WLAN Software Update n...

Hi, I have that well-known problem that my C7-00's WLAN connection is breaking up after a couple of minutes, following the update to Symbian Belle Refresh.
Allegedly, there is/was a patch in Nokia Beta-Labs, the WLAN Software Update, which was supposed to fix that error.
The problem is, this update is now unavailable from reliable sources (direct download from WLAN Utilities.sis not working either) - and when I risked to install one of the versions of that update available on numerous internet sites, "Expired certificate" error message popped up.
Could anyone help solving this - I've been searching for the solution for a long time, to no avail.

Nokia 2110 (bought the very original "brick" version back in 1995 ), 6110 (1997), 6210, 6310, 6310i, 6230, 6233, 5800, C7, HF-3, CK-20W, CK-300 (all bought new) - looked like a loyal Nokia customer, didn't it? So, Nokia had to give up on all these loyal customers! Now, life with Nokia phones running Symbian is a nightmare. Thanks a lot for letting us down, Nokia!

I never noticed any WLAN issues on my C7 on Belle Refresh. The friend who was gifted the phone is still happy with it and refuse to let me upgrade it to a Lumia.
The trick to install software with expired certificates on Symbian phones: Shut the phone down, remove the SIM, start up and set the date when the certificate is valid, in this case early 2013. Once succesfully installed it continues to work when the date is set correctly.

You can put it that way if you want to... But its Anna as well but with some bug fixes and performance and stability improvements. It may or may not be released in India and even if Nokia decides to release it, the mobile operators may or may not test it and approve it since v22.014 was released only a while ago and they will not be ready to spend money on testing of a minor update. There you go... I guess that should more or less clear your doubts. If at all you get v 25.007, then consider your self lucky.

Hi Mushroomlolz,
Sounds like a problem with metadata in the music files. I recall this happening to me also when upgrading from Symbian Anna to Nokia Belle. The way the metadata of music files is handled differently in Nokia Belle and Nokia Belle Refresh, therefore you will need to locate the offending files and use an advanced ID3 / metadata tag editor on your PC to edit the metadata tag information so it will display correctly on your device.

The C7 lacking autofocus is not a problem of software but the camera itself. The camera module lacks the moving parts for autofocus, thus no matter what you do, you wont get autofocus.
For those who are complaining about paying for the phone with no autofocus, then you shouldn't have bought it. Its been published almost everywhere that the phone has no autofocus.

Is there any news about 'Belle Refresh' update coming to the first gen of symbian^3 devices such as Nokia N8?

Cannot find Nokia Belle Refresh on E7 RM-626

Hi,
Despite Symbian Belle Refresh being out for quite a while, I cannot seem to download it. My phone says the current version (111.030.0609) is the most recent version. Eventhough the nokia website says there should be a new version (111.040.1511) http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Software-Updates/Nokia-Belle-Refresh-update-just-launched/td-p/15347... and http://www.nokia.com/nl-nl/support/product/e7-00/.
I have the same problem via Nokia Suite, it also says I have the latest version. (111.030.0609)
Does anybody know why?

@pwn1996 did you try the Nokia Software Recovery Tool already? There in that tool, what is your Nokia Product Code? It is the same as with *#0000#. Does that code match the one which is printed on the label of your phone (7 characters)? That tiny sticker between the keyboard and display. The Nokia Product Code determines your firmware variant which determines your current version. We can check together, only with this code!
Or do you have 059F3W6 or 059F6L7 as well?

E7 Software update ??

When will you update E7 Software ?? ... we need a new update ... with a new application .... the symbian Belle Refresh hasn't add enough . .... i can't open the groups on facebook with facebook app .... we need a new social application with chat like andorid phones and we need more application for phones .... there isn't a new add in the last software update unlessa the clock widget ... and the music player update ... Don't think that you can expect anything now for E7-00, with only 808 the last Symbian device receiving any further software tweaking.

E6-00: what's wrong with Belle refresh (and other ...

I've been following this forum and have always been up-to-date with E6-00 firmware. I've been almost happy with Belle and was expecting hardly the Belle refresh version for the Music player upgrade. What I got was - ? I don't know. Just the new version and no instant visible change. However... :
- the Music Player is the same. Meaning, no song search and still ridiculous user interface
- the phone tries to establish the data connection quite often even if no application is open
- the phone is hardly responsive from time to time (while looking for the network connection)
- the phone does not want to connect to the wifi. Restart helps.
- the phone loses the network operator and does not reconnect. Happened once (when roaming). Restart helps immediately.
- the Microsoft Apps: pursued upgrade. I personally do not need them. The screen is simply to small to use them effectively.
- (not a complaint) the battery life: I think the battery life is not really affected by the OS. Those complaining about shorter battery life should check how much time they spend using the phone, being connected to wifi, etc.
I'm very disappointed with the E6-00. I try to keep it positive but it keeps me down with every (new) issue. Does anyone has advice what to do with upper mentioned issues? I bought the phone ~2 months after it was available. I'm assuming that these first production series can have hardware issues? My phone was on reparation twice: for the notification light (hardware thing) and bluetooth issues (voice not heard over the bluetooth headset). The latter is still present I think...
I consider buying E71 since there's no other good (Nokia) phone on the market. What makes me sad the most is that my iPod touch does wifi connection and other things smoothlessly... But I don't want an iPhone (which is in principle the same as iPod touch), I just want a good Nokia.

I agree with your post except for the fact that Belle hosed my E6. Meaning: if you look at all my other posts, it's all about the GPS data functions that were awesome with the E71 then went away with the E6 on Anna. At least with Anna, there was an app called LeGPSData2 that restored most of the E71 GPS functionality. LeGPSData2 is not compatible with Belle. Sooo, I am currently using my E6 ONLY because of the decent camera.
Belle made the UI look pretty but that's it. I found the same problems with the responsiveness that you mentioned and issues with not connecting to my home wifi when I try to browse the net at home. There's nothing like downloading a bunch of big files only to discover that I've chewed up a bunch of data because the phone didn't connect to wifi. I put the wifi widget on one of my home screens and I make sure that I manually connect to wifi now before starting the browser. The Microsoft app via the upgrade were a joke. They actually took over Quick Office so that Excel and Word opened with MS Office Mobile. This would be fine but they open so tiny they are unreadable and they are not editable with MS Office Mobile for some reason. I removed the MS apps immediately.
My battery life suffered a lot after Belle refresh. With normal use as before the upgrade I would get home with about 50% battery with 3G ON. With Belle refresh, The battery won't make it through a full day with 3G on and I end up with about 25% battery at the end of the day with 3G off. Good thing I don't use much data through the day!
This is actually my second E6; long story but the first I upgraded to Belle and was disappointed with the loss of LeGPSData2 app. This one I was forced to upgrade to Belle refresh because while updating Ovi Maps one night, the update completely deleted the Ovi Maps app and I could not get it back without updating the OS to Belle refresh.
So I am with you. I too am very disappointed with the E6 but most of my disappointment comes from the software 'upgrades'. If Nokia would just leave well enough alone, all would be fine. I am sorry I have no advice to take care of the problems you and I are facing. I am in search of a new phone now and if I don't downgrade to an E72, I won't be getting a Nokia again. It's a sad story because I have been a die hard Nokia fan for a long time.

you can update the phone from "Menu > Applications > (Tools >) SW Update" or alternatively with your PC using Nokia Suite. You can find the more detailed update instructions from here:

Hi all,
great news! We just started to roll out our next update for Symbian called Nokia Belle Refresh for Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01, Nokia X7 and Nokia Oro with version number 111.040.1511 (Nokia E6, version number 111.140.0058, will follow still this week, Nokia 500 updates will follow shortly).
This update again brings new features to Symbian smartphones, for example:
- a new browser with HTML5 web apps support, a new set of homescreen widgets, and the previously released Microsoft Office Mobile App and Nokia Maps Suite 2.0 in one package.
- Nokia N8 will have some extra apps for imaging
The update will be rolled out in phases, starting with the vanilla versions (ie. basic software variants without any specific operator or country configuration). Country and operator variants will follow within the next weeks, depending on local and operator approvals.
pS: Just like after updating from Nokia Anna to Nokia Belle, some apps may not work due to compatibility issues. If you need more information on available apps, please contact your local Nokia Care support. Furthermore, you can also contact the respective App developer to enquire about the compatibility.

Someone please tell me what's happening.
I have launched Nokia Suite and a screen about the new Nokia Belle update was available, so I connected my C6-01 via USB cable and started the update process.
After some minutes the device restarted and Nokia Suite informed me about the successful update to v111.40.1511 .
Then I checked in "Device Management" in my C6-01 and discovered with extreme horror that the version in my phone is still the v111.030.0609 .
Now I have to reinstall 46 applications, deleted by the update process. I'm very disappointed for this and wondering why Nokia Suite did informed me about a wrong update.
Sorry for my poor english.

1. It's not wise to put more pressure on devs than what they already have from Nokia.
2. I'm waiting anxiously for this, since Belle Refresh should contain the most important update ever, and that isn't the browser, the Maps or the bugfixes. This update is Qt 4.8.
As a KDE user (KDE is a full desktop replacement built entirely on Qt), the speed difference between Qt 4.7.4 and Qt 4.8 is MASSIVE. Specially when optimizing for Qt 4.8. Believe me, you really feel the difference. Just like a Nokia Belle phone, KDE depends on Qt for everything, and that includes screen redrawing, effects, acceleration and the like. Don't be surprised if in your N8 you get at the same time more battery life and more performance.
3. I have a Nokia 500, so I must wait even more than you all. But Qt 4.8 works wonders when it's time to punish the OpenVG GPU of my cell phone. I'm waiting for exactly the same improvements, since I know they are delivered even in Software rendering.

Belle Refresh Update for E6

I just saw the update available on my E6. Downloaded and said yes to install it. The phone shuts down to restart, but doesnt restart. A white screen is flickering and keeps flickering...nothing happens...i closed the phone using the power button and switched it on again to find the phone in the previous state..so no update or formatting happened. Any suggestions?

Updated directly from Anna to Belle refresh. E6 code 059F862. No problems at all!
Heres my tips: install Nokia suite (nothing else). Attach your phone via USB and the software should tell you that an update is available. When proceeding with the update be careful and READ what it says on the Nokia suite update window. It says that you should not type aaanything else than your pin code when it restarts (perhaps a few times). After you have typed your pin code you will see some prompts for additional stuff on the phone screen, but leave it be! After this the update will continue for several minutes and it may feel like something has hanged, but most likely it has not. I did not get a clear "everything is ready sir" when the update was ready, but from the phone screen and from the computer i drew the conclusions that, yes. After this you can install the other suggested software (perhaps 4-5 different).
I have updated other Belle phones aswell and I think that the message of typing only the pin code is critical.

Fire up software update app on your phone. You should get the update prompt, if it is available for your product code. Else check it via Nokia suite. If both these options give no result- visit nearest Nokia care.
