C7 firmware update - how?

A couple of days ago I received a text message from Nokia telling me that there was a software update available for my C7. I visited the website indicated - www.nokia.com.au/softwareupdate and discovered that the latest version for my phone is 013.016.
Of the update methods listed I chose "Update using your PC". This told me first of all that there was an update available and I chose the bluetooth option to install it. After going through the rigmarole eventually I was advised to use a USB cable so I restarted the process when I found the cable and was told that the software in my phone was up to date. I knew it wasn't so I tried again the next day with a cable and was told that there was an update available this time - after a lenghty period the update was apparently successful.
I had also bee shon that there was an update to the maps etc so I chose to do that. I was told not to unplug the phone or use it during the process. The process has now been going on for over 6 hours - apparently stuck on the removing old maps part. So what do I do now - I can't stop the process and it doesn't want to continue   ----- help!

Its terrible to have have no answer but that is just the way it is,again when the update is available its a Nokia lottery as to who gets it first and so on,the general update rule is updates vary by region and product code, and if your device is branded ie locked to a network you will be most likely left waiting even longer as the network has to give the update the all clear.
With so many changes in the organization and constitution of NOKIA, symbian been outsourced to accenture... There is poor performance to be seen in such activities as updates. Also with New devices running Anna OS Nokia will deliberately like to delay Anna to older devices  to mark a USP and attention to the new devices. There is a sales strategy involved in it it looks!
However it is **bleep** off  the loyal fans and NOKIA lovers, this is what Nokia should consider, looking to update track records of other OS like Android, WP.

  • 4GB upgrade now needs Firmware update - how?

Just updated my 15' Macbook Pro unibody (bought early 2009 - so maybe late 2008 model?) 2.4Ghz.
My MBP now seems slow? even though the RAM seems to be recognised (from Crucial) as :
    4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
I spoke to cruical about the memory and they said that sometimes it may need a "Firmware update" after installing RAM?? - Can anyone give me steps on what or how this is done?? is it under 'software update'?
I am still on 10.5.8, and thinking of backing up and re-installing a full 10.6.4 and moving up to Snow Leopard.
Would this cure it, and maybe update the firmware in the same instance?
    Thanks for any help!

Poor computer performance is one of the symptoms of bad RAM, a great first step is to run the end-user diagnostic called the Apple Hardware Test (AHT), as detailed in your MacBook Pro manual, and also by removing the RAM and checking performance when running the laptop with the RAM supplied by Apple.

Firmware for the MacBook Pro is obtained via software update or by download from the Apple Support Website.

Moving to Snow Leopard is a good move generally, but it won't solve a hardware issue such as bad RAM.
Would this cure it, and maybe update the firmware in the same instance?
It is always advisable to run the latest version of OS X and firmware on your Mac.

  • MSI DR16-B2 Firmware updating how to?

Can some one help me? How i update firmware on my DVD? I m very rookie and need simple step by step guideanse. Please.

DVD's made with one burner may not always work in another burner or in all DVD's readers.  There are conflicting formats (dvd-r, dve+r, etc.) is just one of the reason's why.
Maybe a firmware upgrad will help but don't be suprised if it does not.
The following link will tell you how to use Live Update to install the lastest firmware for your burner:

  • How do I install the firmware update for LinkSys E900 router?

    Hi,
I'm using Mac 10.7.5 and a few months back had purchased the E900 wireless router.  It has firmware 1.0.03 installed and I noticed there is a 1.0.04 update.  I downloaded the update, which is a .bin file, but I do not have a CD burner nor access to a Windows machine.  How can I install the firmware update?
    Thanks, - Dave
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Simple, with your wired computer (never wireless) just access the GUI in the router and perform the firmware update.  Just point to the .bin file and away you go.  Make sure to hard reset the router and reconfigure it after you are done.

How can I install the iMac Graphics Firmware Update 2.0, if the screen is white and I can't get to the Apple menu?  My computer has 5 vertical purple lines against white screen at startup before the Apple logo appears and the spinning gear...then everything disappears and the screen hangs on the white screen.  I have tried unplugging and removing all my peripherals and the COMMAND, OPTION, P & R set of keys and still nothing.  I have tried COMMAND C to start up from cd and it only tells me to turn off the computer and turn it back on.  I found information on Apple's Support pages regarding the iMac Graphics Firmware Update but I am unable to download and install if I can't get to the Apple menu.  Can anyone help?

You may have hardware problem, I think a visit to your local Apple Store or AASP is in order.

  • How to install Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 in Lion?

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a 27" iMac with a NVidia 7600GT graphics card.  Knowledgebase article HT3986 says that Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 must be installed first. I downloaded the firmware update  but on running it says the Mac OS X 10.6 is required  but I've already upgraded to Lion.
I was able to install Windows 7 but I have to disable the graphics card for it to boot and use it in VGA mode.
How can I install the firmware update?

I used BC 4.0. I don't remember installing the firmware update and thought it likely that I would skip it as I didn't intend to install Windows.

How long does it typically take to update new apple products?  I'm speaking in terms of software/firmware updates.  My new Apple TV and iPad 3 are glitchy, which is extremely frustrating considering I have the last gen of each sitting there working flawlessly.

I appreciate the responses, however my initial post was too vague. I apologize and will explain.  The specific issues are the window closes occasionally when loading something large, that has ceased in the last day or two. My battery life is no where near the second gens, is that the extra hardware at work? I thought that had been accounted for? One of the frustrating, albeit humorous occurrences is when I placed the second and third gen within 1 foot of each other, turned off LTE, and streamed a video.  From every location the second gen out ran the new model on 3G signal, lol.  Not a huge deal since I have wi-fi or LTE pretty much everywhere I am, but disappointing none the less.
The new apple tv is great, except for the same thing everyone is posting about. HD iTunes library streaming taking overly extended load times. I don't expect it will take too long  for apple to address that issue. I'm new to apple, last 6 months, but they seem to have excellent support!  It is definetly highly rated.

  • MacBook Air SMC Firmware Update v2.0 update available again and again.  How do I fix it?

I have installed MacBook Air SMC Firmware Update v2.0 three times and I still get an update available notification asking to install it again.  This is a mid-13 MacBook Air running OSX 10.9.3.   System info lists the SMC version as 2.13f7.
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

    Hi,
    - Are there any status or error messages in /var/log/install.log
    - The Firmware version it should install is 2.12f137
    - If there isn't anything in the log try:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    and/or About NVRAM and PRAM
and check whether there is installation.
If no install, try OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode
then reboot normal, try the install again.
    Hope this helps

  • How do those who don't watch boards find out about firmware updates?

Since 'Software Update' doesn't alert users to firmware updates, I wonder how those that don't monitor these boards and other 'Mac news' sites find out about firmware updates?
Yes, Boot Camp made headline news in many major newspapers and those who wanted to install it found they needed to update the firmware first.
But, had I not read about it elsewhere earlier, I would not have known about the second MBP firmware update (which, apparently, solves some of the 'whine' issues - I've had no whining but I like to keep my firmware, in particular, up to date!).
Just as a note to Apple - you've a database of all who have registered their MPB's (at least those with AppleCare if not those who simply run set-up with new Mac purchases). If firmware updates aren't included in the 'Software Updates' procedure, shooting off an email to those with machines that might be in need of firmware updates may save a world of grief to overworked phone support techs.

Yes, I'm familiar with the support page but my point is that not all (in act, likely very few) are familiar enough with that page to go to "Top Downloads" to find firmware updates.
On page 25 of the MacBook Pro Users Guide, Apple DOES suggest, in the next to the last paragraph, suggest "For support information, user discussion boards, and the latest Apple software downloads, go to www.apple.com/support."
But if a new user is having problems he or she is more likely than not to pick up the phone first - and although there's the 90-day phone support and 3 year phone support for those who purchase AppleCare (which new users may not - particularly if buying from, say, CompUSA or other stores who push 'extended warranties' even with the purchase of products whose manufacturers already provide LIFETIME warranties) Apple has thoughtfully provided automated Software Updates (which Windows switchers understand all too well!) but no automated way to be lead to firmware updates. It's my feeling that if firmware notification were included in SU notifications, or via email, it might reduce the number of phone calls and result in happier computers.
While I enjoy reading all the Mac news on a daily basis, a lot of users don't and there may be an even greater number who don't know the wheat from the chaff (or even know where to find the wheat!).
Some firmware updates are critical, some of minor importance, and some (more and more of late, it seems) just a bit cryptic (for instance, 1.01 says "This firmware update is for (MacBook Pro)/iMac (early 2006) computers with Intel processors only. It now runs on localized systems that use languages that read right to left." and then lists the languages supported - which do not include Hebrew or Arabic, two "languages that read right to left".
The only reason that I brought this up is that there are a number of sites that reported that the firmware update alleviates some of the 'whine' that some MBP users are reporting (and now I am reading of 'hum' issues - forget GarageBand! An hundred MBP's could replace a symphony!). Now is that true or not? Apple doesn't say - some users report yes, some no. And as there are no whine or hum issues on the iMac, I doubt 1.01 would 'solve' any of those problems with that machine (and interesting, too, that the "iMac (early 2006) Firmware Update 1.0.1" isn't in the "Top Downloads" section as is "MacBook Pro (early 2006) Firmware Update 1.0.1": what's up with that? Are there really more MBPs out there than Intel iMacs? Or are MBP owners running Windows in Arabic more than Intel iMac owners? Or just hopeful that the update does, indeed, help with the whine problem.
I keep getting off topic (sort of)...
...my point is that it would be simple to notify, and simpler for (in my opinion), Apple to notify customers of firmware updates.

Just yesterday I managed to rescue (on the last ditch attempt) a strawberry iMac DV (400MHz) that had exactly this problem. I read through the documentation suggested on this thread and discovered that it had moved all the way through to the 'Stage 4' issue; it would automatically power down about 6-7 seconds after the welcome chime. Before reading the docs I'd zapped the PRAM and removed the battery multiple times thinking I was doing the right thing, so it was well and truly stuck.
Luckily, before it died I had updated to OS 9.1 and run the firmware update, but of course you need to reboot for the update to actually be written to the chip. I'd actually given up and put it on the recycle pile, only to find myself with a spare half hour in the afternoon. This is exactly what I did to get it back to life. Note that the battery had been out for a couple of hours prior to trying this.
    1. Put on desk, upside down with all panels open, not connected to anything.
    2. Remove everything (which in this machine was just RAM - battery was already out and it had no Airport card).
    3. Put battery back in. Very old battery, so no idea if it had much charge.
    4. Pressed internal PRAM reset button once, briefly (no more than 1 second).
    5. Waited for about 20 seconds.
    6. Put a 256MB card into slot J13 that I had just pilfered from an old PC. It previously had in it two 64MB cards.
    7. Plugged into a monitor, then the mains and turned power on.
    8. Waited for about 20 seconds.
    9. Pushed in the programmers button and held it down while tapping the power button.
    10. Released programmers button when the evil beep sound happened.
I was then very surprised that it not only stayed running, but actually started the firmware update! I guess I was very lucky in that I'd managed to run the firmware application in OS 9.1 before the machine got stuck, otherwise you'd need to boot into Mac OS, run the app and then reboot a second time to get it to apply the update.
Best of luck - this iMac DV is now off to a new home instead of the bin. I was pleasantly surprised with how well it copes with OS X 10.4.11.

  • HELP! Frozen mac due to firmware update crash. How do i restart it?

I have had my Tiger 10.4.7 Mac for 4 months, no problems, but when computer done a firmware update, it got part way through and I lost power to computer. Now when I try to turn on all that happens is a black screen with the white power dot on constant. I tried to install the OS X install disc but I cant get that out now as none of the keyboard buttons seem to work. I tried the support phone line, but they just told me to download a firmware patch. I lookedon the site but have no idea which one they suggest to try, and how would I get it to recognise it anyway? Any ideas please?

There is a download for restoring original firmware on the Apple download page, for each computer.
You need to download it, burn it to a CD and follow the instructions.
And never do a firmware upgrade on any computer unless it is on a UPS. Sometimes it is not recoverable and requires factory service to repair.
But I suspect that the restore firmware CD will work for you.

  • Firmware update failed - how to resolve remotely

I bought my father an Apple TV so he could subscribe and watch MLB. Everything was working fine until the Apple TV attempted to update itself. Apparently the firmware update failed.  I need to know how to remotely resolve this for him. I can access his PC remotely so I read some info that you can update Apple TV via iTunes. I also need to confirm that the USB socket on the Apple TV is a USB Mini type. I'm assuming you can just plug the Apple TV into a USB socket and then from iTunes initiate the firmware update, much like you do an iPad. He's not very technically savvy, so I need to do this for him or have him call Apple support.
Any suggestions or help is appreciated.

If he hasn't done so get him to do the old fashioned trick of unplugging teh mains power to it and restarting.
If it restarts correctly the update can be reattempted.
If it's truly bricked then return to Apple or restore using itunes will be necessary.
