C7: FM transmitter missing!

I live in the U.S.A. , where the C7 is not officially sold yet. The N8 is sold here, but I wouldn't want it even if it was free, not even if I was paid $500 to use it, because the N8 is unsafe. The N8 doesn't have a replaceable battery. I don't want the battery to run out in an emergency - I always carry a spare battery in my pocket.
So I ordered a C7 online from a third party. It turns out that my C7 came from Hong Kong, where Nokia has disabled the FM transmitter by firmware on the C7.
Is there any way to enable the FM transmitter, other than by flashing the firmware, as described here:
http://www.nokiausers.net/forum/other-nokia-handsets/38503-fixed-fm-transmitter-missing-nokia-c7.htm...
I know there's a fix from Nokia to enable to the VOIP - is there a similar fix to enable the FM transmitter?
If I flash the firmware, will I lose all of my data and applications? I have never flashed/rooted a phone before. Could someone post step by step instructions how to do this, please?
Solved!

Finally, FREEEEDOOOOM!!!!
My so-called "unlocked' Nokia C7 is finally fully unlocked.
Happiness is an unlocked, uncrippled phone! A phone that has all the built-in features, including the FM transmitter. Power to the people!
I flashed/rooted my phone with the PR1.2 (12.004) firmware (I picked the Euro/UK and Ireland version), replacing the cr*ppy Hong Kong firmware. There wasn't even a PR1.2 update for the Hong Kong firmware available yet.
Everything is working fine now. I didn't have to reinstall any apps. All the connectivity settings, including WPA2 and VOIP/SIP are working. I had a small problem initially after the flashing with my personal calendar entries not showing. But I was able to fix those easily through the calendar settings.
A somewhat more unnerving problem was that within the first 10 minutes after flashing, my phone would lock up and the screen would go black a couple of times, necessiating removal of the battery to reboot. But that hasn't occurred since.

    Well the problem is when i've tried after 2 days to use the "FM transmitter" it was missing and couldn't find it or activate it

    What has most likely happened is that you were sold an N85 that was originally designed to be sold in a country that prohibits the use of FM transmitters.  The retailer will have altered the phones software (details of how are not allowed here) so that the FM transmitter was re-enabled. They should have made you aware of this as it can also affect the warranty.
    When you update phones they rightly revert back to the correct software for country it's designed to be sold in.   This will have undone the retailers modifications.
    You should take the issue up with the retailer that sold it to you.  You could also try a nokia care point for help but they may not be able to depending on what the original retailer did to it.

  • Nokia 701 - FM Transmitter missing?

    Hi Guys, just got brand new Nokia 701 but find out FM Transmitter is missing , no widget , no shortcut , no 'play via radio' option ? The phone came with FP1 installed. How can I get this application up and working. HELP.

    G'day mate,
    The non-presence of the FM transmitter feature may be due to country requirements i.e. certain countries ban the use of FM transmittance devices. If you wish to double-check with your local Nokia Care they will be able to confirm this or not.

    There are some countries where law does not permit the use of personal FM transmitters. They only became legal here in the UK a few years ago...

  • N8 Missing FM Transmitter

    According to the Users Guide the N8 is supposed to have an FM transmitter that allows the Music Player to broadcast to any FM radio. On my N8 it appears to be missing, but the FM radio receiver does work. Does any else have an N8 without an FM transmitter?

  • Replacing a missing piece for iPod FM Transmitter?

    Don't know if that's the right label but it looks like this.
    I have everything visible in that picture, but the cylinder shaped conductor piece that connects my iPod to my cigarette lighter is lost. I'm pretty certain that it's a generic electrical piece but I don't know what it's called so I can't search for it and just get it at a local radioshack. Does Apple replace small pieces like that? Or better yet, what would you call that piece (cylinder shaped, maybe an inch long, clear in the middle with metal conductors on both ends)?

    Thanks, that's the correct term.
    I'll stop by Radioshack tomorrow to see if I can get the right fuse but should I get the rating before I go or should they be able to figure it out without it? It's actually a Belkin product and their tech support is Monday through Friday so I can't call them yet to see to get the right fuse rating/information.
    The only numbers printed on the adapter are the model #, FCC ID, C-Tick Mark, and another number (Z528) that I couldn't figure out.

  • My Griffin fm transmitter stoped working with my Ipod Touch.

    My Griffin FM transmitter used to work with my IPod Touch but then it suddenly stopped working. A message pops up saying "This Accessory is Not Supported by IPod Touch" but that doesn't make sense since it worked a few hours before hand. The FM Transmitter still works on my IPod classic though, so I don't understand why it suddenly stopped working on my Ipod Touch. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it.

    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

  • Missing back of PC cover for MSI motherboard

    Hello I have looked high and low, I purchased an MSI motherboard about a year ago, it shipped without the silver metal cutout which covers the back of the motherboard (the connectors) and keeps out dust and stray RF.  I have been having a fair amount of crashes lately and it's because this is missing and stray radio waves are interfering and crashing my computer.
    The system board I have is:  MSI 880GM-E41 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
    Where can I purchase a replacement cover for this system board please??  Surely someone can help.
    Thanks

    Quote from: XFM on 15-October-12, 11:18:32
    You're PC crashes are not likely to be caused by stray RFI. You must have something else causing the crashes. There are plenty of us that have before and run now PCs outside of a case with no I/O shield and the metal case to shield the MB from RFI so whoever gave you the idea that RFI is causing the crash problem is wrong.
     No harm in trying to find the I/O plate/shield but you need to look at other possible causes for the crashing.
     First thing you need to do here is provide a list of the components in the PC so we can help you find the real cause of your problem.
    You would think that, but my PC actually drives a 50W UHF paging transmitter for a community, and we've traced down the crashes to whenever a specific paging message is transmitted.  If I lower the power output of the paging transmitter to a few watts it doesn't crash the PC.  This is a little more power than your normal home.  I will check the link provided by the poster above.

  • Problems with IR transmitter

    I currently control all my AV equipment using an IR receiver that is attached to the TV and transmitters located in the AV closet. This works fine for all my components (receiver, DVR, DVD player, etc.), except for some reason my new Apple TV will not accept signals from the IR transmitter. It will only accept them if the remote is pointed directly at the unit. I've tried it with transmitters that work on other components, so the transmission seems to be fine. Has anyone else run into problem or are there any ideas for solutions?

    Yep...same here. Let me guess...you've got a XANTECH IR Extender system? I'm using a Universale Remote MX-980 and it's really frustrating.
    There's something about the timing since it seems to be a hit and miss; plus, it seems to work better if I get close to the pickup.
    The solution? Well, I'm probably going to hook up an RF unit instead!

  • Ability to Conduct Calls Via the FM Transmitter

    I don't know if I am missing something but when listening to music through the radio via the FM Transmitter and a call comes in (or indeed if I want to make a call) I find that the transmission through the radio stops meaning that you have to pick up the phone to hear the caller.
    Why are we not able to continue the phone/radio FM link so that the caller can be heard through the radio?
    Third party equipment that links to a telephone via Bluetooth and transmits through an FM Transmitter already has the ability to do this, so why is it not possible to have the facility within the actual unit?
    I look forward to hearing your comments.
    Regards,
    bwadders

    In your first post you asked to continue to hear the caller via FM. This would be stupid (public).
    With the Motorola Bluetooth kit you have another issue, which is known even with other BT kits. If you use FM sender and at the same time a BT kit, it wil not work if you accept a call.In this case, the caller is routed via FM and not BT, this is a Bug known by Nokia and hopefully resolved soon.

  • FM Transmitter problem

    When I play my iPhone's music on my car radio with my digital FM Transmitter, the phone sounds like it's doing morse code. Kind of like when you have your phone to close to your computer. Is there any other way to stop it from doing this? I asked this question on iRovr and someone said to put your phone on airplane mode. But you can't recieve calls that way right? I don't want to miss calls just so I can listen to my music, but I want to be able to listen to my music sine I have this expensive adaptor. I even had to buy a little chord adaptor so I could plug the FM Transmitter into the phone.

    What it might say on the box and what it can do technically are not the same thing.
    The issue with GSM technology, regardless of what cell phone we are talking about, is that they do have emissions that can in fact have the exact impact on your FM radio you describe.
    It may be that the only way you are going to be able to operate is in the Airport mode in the way you hooked it up. Did you do the work or did you have the installation of the adapter done professionally. If the latter, you should take it back and have them look it over. Let them prove it is the iPhone.
    I will say that with my iPhone in normal operating mode, i.e., able to receive calls, I have not experienced any interference with my satellite radio reception and the FM tuner in my car. That is why I suggested the installation approach question.
    Good Luck!

  • Missing kernel modules in 2.6.35.12

    I'm building the LTS kernel 2.6.35.12 and have noticed several key modules are completely missing: lirc_i2c and lirc_dev.  If I compare the confg from ARCH 2.6.35 to that of ARCH 2.6.37, I see that the entire section within the config that builds these is missing.  I know for a fact that there are supported under 2.6.35 because I have been using this same setup since 2.6.26 just fine.
    Here is a bit from 2.6.37's config that shows where these are:
    # Texas Instruments shared transport line discipline
    CONFIG_ST_BT=m
    CONFIG_ADIS16255=m
    CONFIG_FB_XGI=m
    CONFIG_LIRC_STAGING=y
    CONFIG_LIRC_BT829=m
    CONFIG_LIRC_I2C=m
    CONFIG_LIRC_IGORPLUGUSB=m
    CONFIG_LIRC_IMON=m
    CONFIG_LIRC_IT87=m
    This section for 2.6.37 is found:
    -> Device Drivers
    -> Staging drivers (STAGING [=y])
    -> Exclude Staging drivers from being built (STAGING_EXCLUDE_BUILD [=n])
    -> Linux Infrared Remote Control IR receiver/transmitter drivers (LIRC_STAGING [=y])
    Again, under 2.6.35 there is no corresponding entry for the "Linux Infrared Remote Control IR receiver/transmitter drivers" but again, I know that my remote worked back when Arch had 2.6.35.x in [core].
    Thoughts as to how to enable building them under the LTS 2.6.35.x is appreciated!

    iphitus wrote:Kernel modules for 2.6 have a .ko NOT .o filename.
    The included makefile is written for a 2.6 kernel and produces a .o, and Gentoo used to mix the two, although Gentoo is hardly the golden standard.
    Please ensure that you use the included makefiles and installation options included with the driver and run depmod -a after installing.
    Both the vanilla kernel and the pkgbuild include the source and makefile unchanged in the correct place. Both are patched correctly as per the included readme.
    If the driver is precompiled and has no make options, then it will *not* work under any circumstances.
    I don't think I can precompile it, since it depends on about a dozen headers from include/scsi, which all have compile-time macros set by the kernel's makefiles. Even if I could track down every #ifdef and set the macro by hand, I wouldn't want to.
    What driver is it? It would help us identify your problem much more easily.
    Areca ARC1210 Source driver. Before you spend any time on this particular module, I should reiterate that I don't think there's anything wrong with the module itself, I was just looking for a minimum effort method to install the module, preferably without a custom kernel. I don't see this as a very likely option anymore, so more than likely I will use the pkgbuild I wrote for the purpose.

  • X10 CM19a USB Transmitter

    Let me preface this with, I hope this is the right forum for this topic, if not please change it. Thank you.
    Ok, so I am attempting to get my CM19a Transmitter working with my system. I have followed the instructions here - http://pr0gr4mm3r.com/linux/getting-you … -in-linux/ - and used the cm19a driver found here - http://m.lemays.org/projects/x10-cm19a-linux-driver. When issuing "make" inside the unpacked directory I get an error complaining about a missing smp_lock.h file in inlude/linux. I searched on the web and apparently this file has been removed from recent kernels so it is an expected error in some situations. I however do not have the knowledge to solve this problem so I am hoping someone here can.
    If anyone has any guidance it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    PS - I have already contacted the developer of the driver but have not yet heard back.

    Yeah they do, I was recommended to use one for a friend. I basically needed a cheaper way to control a DJ stage light that is "plug and play" and has no power switch (you plug it in, it goes), so my goal was to get the driver working and write a script that will automate the on / off times.
    But to your point, I came across that and copied over the smp_lock.h file. That solved the problem where it was missing (obviously) but another one came up. Here is the output after running make again:
    [matt@matt-archlinux x10-cm19a-0.1.2]$ make
    WARNING: modpost: Found 1 section mismatch(es).
    To see full details build your kernel with:
    'make CONFIG_DEBUG_SECTION_MISMATCH=y'

    LD [M] /home/matt/CM19ASetup/LemayDriver/x10-cm19a-0.1.2/x10-cm19a.ko
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-3.3.8-1-ARCH'
    And after running "make CONFIG_DEBUG_SECTION_MISMATCH=y' I get this -
    WARNING: /home/matt/CM19ASetup/LemayDriver/x10-cm19a-0.1.2/x10-cm19a.o(.data+0x68): Section mismatch in reference from the variable X10Cm19ADriver to the variable .devinit.data:DeviceTab
    The variable X10Cm19ADriver references
    the variable __devinitdata DeviceTab
    If the reference is valid then annotate the
    variable with __init* or __refdata (see linux/init.h) or name the variable:
    *driver, *_template, *_timer, *_sht, *_ops, *_probe, *_probe_one, *_console
    CC /home/matt/CM19ASetup/LemayDriver/x10-cm19a-0.1.2/x10-cm19a.mod.o
    LD [M] /home/matt/CM19ASetup/LemayDriver/x10-cm19a-0.1.2/x10-cm19a.ko
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-3.3.8-1-ARCH'
    This error message tells me to "annotate a variable" which seems pretty self explanatory - I just append "_init" or something to the file name right? - The problem is that I don't know what file or variable they're talking about!

  • Touch vs. sleek vs. micro, remotes, FM transmitt

    I read most of the user opinion thread on the MP3 players but im still undecided which I want. Maybe im spoiled by my sony mini disc player, but I dont want to put hours of time into downloading music and $200 into a player to have it die in a month, or a couple, I want something that'll last for years without trouble. Do anyone ever have one that lasts this long?
    I'd like to pick one of them up this weekend and walmart has all 3 in stock. The sleek is $240, the touch is clearance at $80, and the micro is $220. I just use my remote with my mini disc so i'd prefer to use a remote with whichever I get. This remote says it'll work with the micro, but can it work with the sleek and touch or are there ones for those 2?
    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3622659#Item+Description
    And I also want to play it in my car, which doesnt have a tape deck so I have to use a FM transmitter. The decent price ones (sub $50) have ranges of around 5Hz to 8Khz...not exactly what im hoping for. Do they really sound that bad through a FM transmitter? I've got good hearing and can tell when crap is missing, which is why i'd be putting everything on at 320kpbs if I could...
    And as to which one, the "brick" touch isnt that big really, and $60 less then the sleek is a big difference, plus its a longer battery. Do you guys ever have trouble reading the screen? The sleek definitely has a nicer screen. The micro is tiny but I think the 8gb wouldnt be enough for my library...any reasons its sooo much better then the other 2?
    thanks,
    Jeremy

    Jeremy,
    That remote will only work with the zen micro and zen sleek. The zen touch player uses another type of remote.
    You can checkout this link and see the type of player the remote support.

  • Ideas to improve Nokia 701 - Missed Events remindi...

    Hi from Czech Republic,
    I'm proud owner of Nokia 701.
    I've got two Ideas to help using Nokia for more peoples, then me.
    1/ Missed Events reminder
    Is it not possible to use phonedisplay as missed event reminder? (blink once per 5sec or something like that)
    This little reminder light is not strong enough, to remind user during a day even in low lighted room. But it is sure enough to provide remindering at the night.
    I suggest, this function could be enabled/disabled for every profile or it can be automatically done through light sensor.
    2/ FM transmitter
    What is the Reason for FM spectrum 88,1 - 107,9 ? Standard in EU is 87,8 - 108,0. I had used 108FM on my old FM transmitter, while there was no broadcast and i could hear music without interference.
    Many thanks,
