  • Problem in N8 Ovi social widget

    Hi,
I am using my N8 for over two weeks now. When i use ovi social network widget to access my facebook account, many images do not load. It is shown as image broken/blocked symbol (like the one we see on some emails when images are blocked when veiwing on desktop).
    Please suggest.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi, when you open social widget, select "Options" and then last one in list "Udate service". It will check for updates and you get message "your service has been updated"
After you get this message you can add or log-in to your FB account.
By the way since when are you facing this problem? is your handset new (1-2 weeks), if so you need to update your phone probably for software updates PR1.1 or atleast social (latest version 1.2.163.).
    Hope this helps you,
    BR,
    Maddy.

  • Ovi Maps crashes continuously on N8

    Phone:
    PR1.2
    Custom version 014.002.269.03
    Product code 059C8T6
    Type RM-596
    Ovi Maps 3.06_11wk10_b01_tb9.2_com
    Map version 0.2.42.122
I have a newly bought N8. Each time I start Ovi Maps it crashes after around 0.5-5 minutes. No other applications are launched in parallel. I have tried to play switching on and off different positioning methods - it does not help. All the same, it crashes with any combination I have tried. Even if I switch off all the methods except built-in GPS, it crashes. I have restored the factory settings and reinstalled the OS. Before installing some applications, I have tried to start Ovi Maps - it crashes all the same.
It crashes in a strange way. It first freezes. Then in around 10 seconds the screen goes dark, then fully white and then the phone restarts. But it does not restart from the very beginning, as it does when you switch the phone off and switch it again (it shakes, then it asks SIM pin, then lock code). Instead, after Ovi Maps crash and the white screen, it shows the white screen with "nokia" on it (no pin codes are asked), then comes the desktop screen, no applications are running at this point yet, it does not react on the touch screen, no connection to the cell network. Then it starts to revive, connects to the GSM network, starts to react on the toch screen, on the button, refreshes the desktop, etc. It runs further as usual.
    The questions are:
    1) Is it a hardware or software problem?
    2) If it is a known software problem, is a remedy going to be included in the coming updates of the OS and or Ovi Maps?
    3) Are there some workarounds to have Ovi Maps in some form/regime running stable on my phone? Ovi Maps was really a decisive argument to buy the phone and now it turns out to be absolutely not usable...
    4) Would downgrading of Ovi Maps help? If yes, how can I get the version 3.04 of Ovi Maps for N8? Or could it be that some other distribution of Ovi Maps 3.06 is more stable? How could I get it?

aspergerguy, thanks a lot for your comments!
“I notice that you are using Ovi Maps 3.06_11wk10_b01_tb9.2_com which is not pre-installed in PR1.2 (v3.06 11wk07 b01) so you must have updated at some point after resetting device. Did you try setting up pre-installed version following prompts before updating this application?”
I cannot say for sure, it was a month ago. Probably, I did. As experiment, I would try v3.06 11wk07 b01, if I knew, where I could get it. Ovi Shop offers only the version I have installed on my phone.
Anyway, I believe, it will not help. I have tried other applications (e.g., Sport Tracker), where positioning is in use, they crash the same way as Ovi Maps. The crashes are not related specifically to Ovi Maps. I believe, it is a system issue with positioning.
“If you go to Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning > Positioning server > Positioning server use - is it set to Auto. in home network?”
It was “always ask”, but I have changed it to “auto”. It does not help, the phone crashes as before.
“Did you try OVI Maps application whilst in USA (was it on TMO) before going to Germany?”
Yes, I did. It was with US at&t sim card and some German one. No difference, it was crashing the same way. It was also crashing without any sim card.
“There is obviously an issue with the Assisted GPS positioning method which unfortunately since OVI Maps v3.06 wants to make a lot more connections ( no you can't revert to v3.04 once vPR1.2 installed).”
There might be an issue with Assisted GPS, but it is far from being the only one. The telephone crashes if I have only the internal GPS switched on, the Assisted GPS and the network methods are switched off. It crashes all the same.
“As an experiment go to Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning server > Server settings - is just supl.nokia.com listed or anything else as well? - if nothing else go to Options > New server - add supl.google.com (if another network server @ 2 remove it). Whilst pinging this server as experiment is no issue there is no authorisation for continual use by Nokia device(s).”
This part I did not quite understand. I have included the second server in the settings, but how can I ping from the telephone? Should I install a ping application for that?
With the second server the telephone crashes as before. No changes.
“With regard to wired headset included you really do need to press it in hard until it "clicks".”
Great, thanks! Now it is working! One has to push it really hard…

  • Ovi Social 1.3.143 "Service is not available"

    Hi,
I had some issues (the phone kept on rebooting) with my N8, got it replaced from Nokia Care. But now, in the replaced phone, I am unable to use Ovi Social. It gives the error "Service is not available". Social version is 1.3.143. Is there any fix for this?
    Thanks,

  • N8 Ovi Social widget unable to connect to facebook...

Earlier I had trouble in viewing images and icons on facebook while using ovi social widget.
When to solve this issue i tried re-installing widget, it worked once and could connect to facebook. But now it is showing error Unable to connect gateway, try later.
However it is possible to log in to facebook using web browser, which means my facebook account is ok as well as no problem on service provider's side too.
    Please provide solution.

It seems the server is down forever. I am not able to configure Social on my Nokia N8. Someone told to configure Ovi email. I did it.. but there I am getting error Service currently unavailable. I tried to find the reason I got to know that it requires Nokia Messaging service enabled. I have no idea how to configure Nokia messaging service. I am also not sure why does Facebook and Twitter configuration requires Nokia messaging service!... Can some one help?

I have a 2330 Classic. I am running it with OVI Suite on Windows XP. My Outlook version is 2003. Bluetooth connection WIDCOMM version 5.5.0.3200
I am unable to even select sync with Outlook under
    Tools|Options|Calendar & Tasks or

It doesn't matter what connections are made, OVI Suite Crashes immediately if I touch either of those selections above:-
    When Outlook is running
    When Outlook is NOT Running
    When Signed in to OVI.com
When NOT Signed in to OVI.com
    When the Phone is connected
When the Phone is NOT connected
    When Bluetooth is ON
    When Bluetooth is OFF
Surely this must be something wrong with the OVI SUITE Software ??? I'm sure it worked under some previous version of OVI Suite, I wish I hadn't updated it.
is there some access to old versions of OVI Suite that might work?
    Error txt file is attached
Someone help please?  The Contact Us on the Nokia website just goes round and round in circles, I am not impressed. There appears to be many, many complaints re: Outlook Sync?

I'm afraid I have the same problem, repeatedly. I got an e-mail from Nokia suggesting that I un-install and re-install Ovi, including hidden files. And then I managed to re-snychronize with Outlook, but once, and once only. And now Ovi crashes when I try to synch with my Nokia, AND when I try to sync Ovi with Outlook. It's infuriating to see that this problem is not being properly addressed by Nokia. But encouraging to realize that I'm not alone, not just an idiot who can't work it out for myself!

  • Ovi Suite crashed and my 6210 won't turn on

    Hello everybody,
I have a nokia 6210 navigator (rm-367) and Ovi Suite 2.1.1.1 on Windows 7. Yesterday I connected my phone via USB, and I intended to update my phone since it had been slow lately. There were no updates available, so I chose to reinstall the latest version. The software was downloaded, and a few seconds after the installation started, Ovi Suite crashed, delivering a not responding blah blah message. My phone doesn't work anymore since the process was not complete. When I turn it on all I see is a black screen and 3-4 seconds later phone turns off. It's not about the battery. I've tried hard reset (by pressing on/off + 3+ * + green keys together). Nothing would help. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Try opening the case and see if the power button contact is properly aligned.  Once the case is open, inspect for bulging or leaking capacitors.
    You can also run
    Disk Utility
       1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
       2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
       3. Click the First Aid tab.
       4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
       5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
       6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Then reboot and repair perm issions.

  • N8 + Ovi/Social + Facebook photo upload

Does the Social/Ovi app compress the picture before sending it to Facebook? The quality doesn't seem very good once the photo has been uploaded to FB.
    Edit:
Tested out by sending the same photo by e-mail. It seems like the Social/Ovi application compresses the hell out of the pictures before sending. That should be fixed as the photos look **bleep** when uploaded to Facebook via the app!

Heh, these are just the types of things that really irritate me. What is the point of sticking a great camera on the phone if the the software then ruins the photo when you want to share it? :-D
