C7 powersave: why does it try to connect?

Still experimenting with my new C7.  The battery was getting a little bit low - 40% - so I activated Power Saving.  Immediately, a little 'connect' pop-up appeared, connecting to my local wifi for a few seconds, then disconnecting.
Why does it do this?  Can/should it be stopped? I don't mind this happening at home or even in the UK, but it will be very annoying and expensive if it happens abroad.
Kate

or either there is a program affecting and trying to connect or must be a bug
what you can try is when pop up the icon top left, inticating that is trying to connect ... is to click this icon
should take you to connection manager and there should see what program is trying to connect
then from its settings i guess you can ajust it
also try in the menu>settings>connectivity>>settings>
switch to wlan only or manual
data use i home>always ask
data abroad always ask
and down check at destinations at the internet access the priority

  • What is "automountd" and why does it try to connect to "fakehome.dat"?

    Hi everybody,
Ever since i upgraded from 10.7.x to Lion (10.8.2), every time i start my laptop Little Snitch reports "automountd wants to connect to fakehome.dat on UDP port 111 (sunrpc)."
The IP address points to "Highwinds Network Group, Inc." (http://whois.domaintools.com/69.16.143.107)
I've seen some people blame this on SuperDuper, but i don't have SuperSuper installed.
Does anybody know what this is? I've been denying the connection on a day-to-day basis. Should i be allowing the connection?
    Thanks,
    Paul

What is happening is that OSX is trying to attach to all of the network storage paths you have available, probably to do something like populate the side bar in a save dialog. OSX hits a dead end so it asks the DHCP server for help. The DHCP server is probably at your ISP or perhaps something like OpenDNS.org if you set it up. Typically, they report back some ad-link crap for things they can't find. However, it looks like your ISP intentionally set up something that can't be used. That's a good thing, because OSX will immediately stop looking at that point.
If you are not connecting to file storage, the usual suspects are network files sharing turned on (if you don't need it, turn it off), Time Machine, AirDrop, iCloud, and Dropbox if you have LAN syncing turned on. Even with all of those things turned off, OSX will still try to contact the DHCP server (even though it shouldn't, yes, lil snitch has uncovered a flaw in OSX, harmless though it may be).
Generally, this is not a "problem" per se, but it can cause a delay in showing dialogs etc while DHCP is being queried, but far less than say an external drive that has fallen asleep. If you are not using network file storage outside of your local network, and not using named paths within it, it is probably okay to block traffic to the ISP's DHCP server for automountd (not other processes). You can try it, and if there seems to be a problem, Lil Snitch makes it easy to remove that rule. Should you add some network storage, or an app that does, in the future, then you will likely need to delete this rule.
As for the value of Lil Snitch, "3rd party" are not a dirty words. It is a valuable tool that can spot nepherious or excessive network traffic. My personal experience with it, it has found apps "phoning home", tracking images embedded in emails, runaway processes (hello Dropbox, I'm looking at you), and apps embedded in web pages. But like any tool, it's important to know how to use it. People of alerted to a process they aren't familiar with and are curious, so they do a web search. That's good and fine. Unfortunately, there are too many flippant answers like the one above that provide an solution to the symptom (uninstall the tool) rather than providing an answer to the question asked (what is this thing?).
If you don't understand something that doesn't make it pointless.

  • Why does firefox try to connect to my own public IP on port 80?

Whenever I open up firefox, firefox.exe attempts to connect to my own public IP on port 80. I confirmed this by issuing a 'netstat -b' on my computer. I was originally notified this was happening when every time I opened up firefox, my firewall would say "Deny IP due to Land Attack from <my_public_ip> to <my_public_ip>. This happens every time. All virus/malware scanners come up clean.
Any idea why this is happening?

    Thanks.
It turns out it was caused by the add-on 'noscript'.

  • Why does Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit no longer work with iOS8

Why does Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit no longer work with iOS8?

The kit is firmly inserted in thhe iPad's dock ? You could also try a reset and see if it's recognised after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
I haven't had problems using the kit with SD cards from Canon cameras . What capacity is the card, and it's an SD or SDHC card - if it's an SDXC card that's formatted as ExFAT then it won't be recognised

  • Why does FaceTime keep saying "connection lost" when we both have full bars on our wifi?

Why does FaceTime keep saying "connection lost" when we both have full bars on our wifi? My friend in Texas has tried to call my via FaceTime but for some reason, every time she does, it keeps saying "connection lost" when we both have full bars on our wifi. Keep in mind, I am from Nebraska so we have the same time zone and I have an iPod 4 while she has a iPhone of some sort but that shouldn't matter because I am still able to FaceTime my friend in California, which is two hours behind me. So, I guess I just want to know why I cannot reach my friend in Texas. Please, someone help me!

    Hi,
iChat uses several port as they are called over the internet to do different things
Text Chats and Video Chats are on different Ports.
You probably don't have the port open.
Use UPnP in your router if it has it.

  • Why does my Iphone 4s connect to my Wi-Fi network and latter in the day fail to connect until I reboot the router

Why does my Iphone 4s connect to my wi-fi with a password and latter in the day fail to connect until I reboot the router?  Is there a setting on my router that would avoid this issue.  All my other devices connect alright

OK so it now looks like on my iPhone 5 iwth iOS 6.1 the LTE network is conflicting with my home wifi (Airport Extreme). At the Apple store the LTE signal is lost in and wifi works like a charm. At home tired all of the "fixes"
    -No security
    -WEP
    -Reset network,
-Complete reset and reload on the phone
    -ETC ETC ETC
Just turned off the cell radio and it worked. Turned on the cell radio but kept LTE off and it worked.
Apple let's get a fix so we can use your "great" phone. I have just received a BB Z10 from work and it seems to work flawlessly.

  • Why does my printer loss connection

Why does my my printer loss conection from my time capsule at least 3 times a day?

    Hey Linders1987,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that you are experiencing issues with Wi-Fi on your iPhone 5. The following resource may provide a solution:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS1398
Wi-Fi disconnects or signal strength is less than expected
Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if signal strength improves.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including
    - previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    - recently used Bluetooth accessories
    - VPN and APN settings
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Why does Flash try to automatically try to install google toolbar and Chrome

I am reaching the point where I will remove Adobe and adobe flash if they continue to automatically try to place google tool bar or google chrome on my machine. I have had to stop the download manually every time I do a adobe flash update because it tries to download the google toolbar or google chrome. I already have google chrome which I hate and use sparingly because of extensions like "Ace Race" which are invasive. I hate google's attempts to invade my space and spy. So why does Adobe keep pushing Google applications?

don't allow flash player to automatically update.
update manually after you tire of seeing warning messages about your flash player being vulnerable.  when you update always untick tag-along ware, Adobe Flash Player Install for all versions
or use Adobe Flash Player Distribution | Adobe so you don't have to remember unticking the tag-along ware.

  • Why does my L2TP VPN connection never really contact the server?

To be clear, this configuration is not on my own Mac, but on one belonging to someone I serve with technical support.
I am configuring an L2TP over IPSec VPN connection on a MacBook Pro. This connection is to a ZyXEL USG 300 and works successfully from my iPad. (I do not have my own OS X device from which I can test the connection.)
To the best of my knowledge, I have entered all of the information that is needed for the connection. Yet when I try to connect, all I receive is an indication that the server did not respond. In the USG logs, there is no indication at all of there being even a connection attempt. In a Terminal session on the Mac (verbose logging is enabled), I read:
    L2TP connecting to server 'xx.xx.xxx.xx' (xx.xx.xxx.xx)...
    IPSec connection started
    IPSec connection failed
It appears to me as if the connection never leaves the Mac and is prevented or stopped by some fault in the system. The firewall is turned off.
What suggestions do you have for identifying the problem?

That's weird but you should be able to manually install the update like this:
    #Download a fresh copy from [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ here] - direct link (https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-28.0-SSL&os=osx&lang=en-US)
#Install the new version. For details, see [[How to download and install Firefox on Mac]]
Usually this fixes this issue with automatic updates. There will be new version available starting next Tuesday. The automatic update will happen sometime over the following week or so.
Let me know how it goes.<br>
    Thanks,<br>
    Michael

  • Why does safari try to open my Norton File Guard protected file?

When I start up my Mac Powerbook (OSX 10.5.8), Norton File Guard reports that Safari (version 5.0.6) is trying to open one of my Norton-guarded files, which happens to be an InTouchWith data file with the extension .itw. (InTouchWith is an older Contact Management application from Prairie Group Software). Why would Safari try to open this file, and how do I find out what other un-guarded files Safari is 'secretly' trying to open every time i launch Safari?  This is very disconcerting, to say the least, from a security standpoint.  This Powerbook can't run any Mac system higher than 10.5.8, and can't run any newer Safari version, so upgrading to gain newer security features of Safari, is out of the question.  When I launch Firefox ver. 3.6.28, (the newest version that is compatible with my Mac), Firefox doesn't trigger these Norton FileGuard error messages.

    Get rid of Norton.
Norton Antivirus (made by Symantec) has a very long and illustrious reputation for mangling Mac OS X systems, sometimes to the point where a complete reinstall is necessary. Among other things, it installs kernel extensions which are known to cause kernel panics and system freezes; it contains known and documented bugs which can silently corrupt Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign files, destroy a user's ability to authenticate as an administrator, and (on PPC systems) can cause Classic to stop functioning; and Symantec has on at least two occasions now released flawed .dat file updates which erroneously report certain critical Mac OS X files as "viruses." (Deleting these "viruses" causes damage to the system that in some cases renders it unbootable.)

  • Why does Contacts need to connect to my ISP?

Upgraded to Mountain Lion. Suddenly my Address Book is "Contacts." My iMac is not a phone, people. Anyway, when I opened "Contacts," it said it could not connect to my ISP. Why the heck would it want to connect to my ISP? Why would it want to connect to anything? It's a freaking address book.
