C850 laptop motherboard replacement

So my brother was playing on his laptop, when suddenly his laptop it cut out.
The machine turns on, the screen is completely black (no back light), and fan seems to run at a much lower rpm than previously, no sound comes from the laptop, nor does any indication that it is doing anything ( besides the low rpm fan and indicator lights).
After a bit a trouble shooting, trying 2 different external displays ( one with vga, one with hdmi) I came to the conclusion that the faulty component is most likely the amd mobile graphics card ( I think its the 7610 2gb). Although it could be the CPU, I doubt it, because I would assume it would  post or the lcd would at least turn on.
Anyways, since it is no longer under warranty, I took it apart and found the motherboard info, (H000052560) I only mamanged to find 1 place that had it at a resonalbe price:
http://www.lambda-tek.com/H000052560-Toshiba-MAIN-BOARD-ASSY-PLF-MAIN-BOARD_0M-~cs/B1902018
however I find it still too much for the motherboard, as if I just look up c850 laptop motherboard on ebay
I found a couple that ARE extremely similar, (not 100% same, but still)
here is the one on ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toshiba-Satellite-C850-L850-Laptop-Motherboard-Intel-H000038410-30-Day-Warra...
This is much more reasonably priced, and has the same gpu, and has a VERY similar board layout, and I am 99% sure it would fit the laptop with all the components.
Now the only thing I am worried about is if I purchase this motherboard, I fear the current i7-3630m won't be compatible with the new motherboard, is this something to be worried about? As I know that other c850 laptops have an i5 in them.
Any further advise on possible repairs would be much appreciated, I heard using a heat gun to reflow the gpu might solve this but I am a bit worried to try that out.
Thanks

  • Replacement laptop motherboard HP dv2645er

    Good day!
Please tell in my laptop burned card.
448596-001 motherboard installed. Is it possible to replace it with a 460716-001?
Somewhere saw the information that they are compatible. And vidiochip the updated motherboard better.
    This question was solved.

You can, these have the 965 chipset & onboard graphics, not so much a gpu default, in most cases it is the BGA grid on the chip base that fails due to brittle lead free solder & poor thermal control/no clamp load on gpu heat sink.
Expect your board is easily repairable with a reball with leaded solder but cost effectiveness depends on your region.
With BGA repaired to high standard with lead solder & GPU/CPU properly clamped with thermal copper shims plus enlarging of fan intake grill & an aditional 25mm 5v fan added to RAM cover they can be cool running machines.
Add to that likes of a T7700/9500 (check board socket type)  & WD 7,200rpm HDD & you get quite a quick machine for very little money.
Am using such a modded machine at this moment.

  • DV9700 Volume Controls not working after motherboard replacement

I have a HP Pavilion DV9702ea, which I've had for just over two years now. It worked absolutely fine for me in every way since I got it until about one month ago when I installed some software that required me to restart Windows. The laptop shutdown but did not restart. I tried to switch it back on but it would not work - when I pressed the power button the power light would blink for perhaps half a second but that was it. After some internet searching I ascertained that this is a symptom of a common problem with these laptops and that it suggested that the GPU had failed, which meant I needed a new laptop.
So I ordered a new laptop using the model number shown on the sticker near the RAM ports. It arrived and I installed it. Now my laptop is fully working again - all except for the volume controls. On the control panel above the keyboard, all of the QuickPlay keys (Q, DVD, previous, Play/Pause, next and stop) are illuminated but the volume control keys (mute, - and +) are not. I have Windows Vista installed with the correct audio driver and it does not respond to me pressing these keys, so it's not just that they're not lit up, they're not working at all.
I've tried everything that I can think of to fix this - as far as I'm concerned it should not be a software issue, because these keys are supposed to be illuminated from power-on, so even without a hard drive or an operating system installed these keys should be lit up. Nevertheless I've tried making sure all the audio, QuickPlay, QuickLaunch and QuickTouch drivers are up to date and have tried alternate drivers for all of them. I've checked the cable leading from the motherboard to the controls - it appears to be intact, but I even ordered a replacement just in case and that has made no difference. I've extensively Googled the problem and the most promising fix that I could find (that is repeated on these forums several times) was to power off the laptop, remove the mains adapter and battery, hold the power button down for 30 seconds to discharge any static and then power on again. I've tried that a few times and it has not fixed the problem in my case.
So I'm at a loss now. My last resort will be to return the motherboard for a replacement, but that will obviously be a lot of hassle for me as I'll have to strip down the laptop to remove it and I'll be without a working laptop for a day or so. And then, if it's not a motherboard fault, I'll have put a lot of effort into not getting anywhere. So is there anything else I should try?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I have this issue before, in my case, its ribbon cable issue. dv9000 have two ribbon cables the one that have broken is the long one, (connect mobo to switch panel). However there is other possibility that the switch panel also broken.
Try buying the ribbon cable first, it is much cheaper compared to switch panel.

  • Cannot start Windows on my Satellite C850 laptop

Powers on fast, but only shows Toshiba logo, tried all the F8, 0, keys etc, computer came to me overloaded, no disc clean up, preinstalled windows 8, cannot access BIOS.
As stated will only show LOGO, no beeping/noise, can hear it running quietly, would like to reset to factory/out of box condition, PSCBWA-09l001 = PART NO. What to do???
Love a challenge, no disc, no backups, but I know the solution is out there somewhere without paying more big bucks.
    Grateful for any suggestions.

It looks like the Satellite C850 PSCBWA-09L001 was released in Australia.
The notebook was preinstalled with Win 8.
There are two possibilities to set the notebook back to factory settings:
    1) HDD recovery
    2) Recovery disk (DVD or USB flash memory stick)
    Here an instruction:
[How to access Recovery, Restore and Reset Options in Windows 8|http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/items/faq/776]
To access the System HDD Restore, Refresh and Reset options using the F12 option at start up, perform the following:
    1. If not already, ensure the computer is completely shut down.
    2. Now restart the computer by pressing the power button - IMMEDIATELY start tapping the F12 key on the keyboard until the "Boot Menu" screen appears.
    3. Using the arrow keys, select <HDD Recovery> and press "Enter".
    4. On the next screen you are asked to confirm if you want to continue with recovery. Select "Yes".
    5. The computer will bring you to the Advanced start up screen.
    6. Select Troubleshoot. Under Troubleshoot you will see Refresh and Reset.
    7. Select Advanced options. Located here is "System Restore."

  • W500 Motherboard Replacement

I believe the motherboard on my W500 is dying. Last week I woke up one morning to find it sitting plugged in but with the battery indicator still showing as charging, which it really should not have been after having sat overnight plugged in. I checked the battery charge level and it was staying at about 75% and did not increase for over an hour as I kept an eye on the laptop. I have tried all the tricks I have come across while researching this kind of problem - I allowed the battery pack to fully discharge first to see if it would begin to charge after. I tried shutting down the computer and leaving it plugged in for several hours to see if the battery would charge. I tried the "press the power button for 10 seconds, 10 times, then 30 seconds the last time" trick. None of which has worked. More recently the laptop has started to fail no most attempts to boot at all even when on AC with no battery pack installed, giving the dreaded 0190 error code. Since there is no battery pack attached at all, and this is repeatable with either of my two AC adapters, as well as when using the AC adapter with the dock for my W500, and also with one of my friends' AC adpaters for his Thinkpad, I'm quite certain that my system board/charging circuit is just about dead.
My W500 has a 2.53GHz C2D, DDR3 RAM, fingerprint reader, no webcam, 512MB v5700 FireGL, etc. Its model code is 4064-A12 I believe - not sure on the A12 part, but I can't check at the moment because I have it attached to the dock and can't remove it to examine the sticker without shutting it down.
Anyway, I have found identical motherboards to mine used on eBay for $300 with shipping. I am really not willing to pay that much money to repair a machine this old. Does anyone know a source for where I could possibly find a cheaper motherboard than that? Alternatively, would it be possible to replace my system board with one that has *only* the Intel integrated graphics? I hardly ever have used the dedicated graphics card on this machine and in fact currently have the BIOS set to Integrated only anyway. I have seen that the Intel-only motherboards for W500s on eBay are significantly cheaper, some of them closer to $175-200 rather than $300. So if one of those boards would fit in my chassis, which I suspect it should, and would be compatible with everything else in the laptop, then I would be glad to buy one of those to try to repair this computer. Would a T500 motherboard potentially work as well?
    Any help is appreciated.

A T500 motherboard will fit. $300 sounds like too much for a W500 board. I recently sold one for $190 + shipping. T500 boards are cheaper. There are 3 choices T500 Intel, T500 ATi or W500. The fans on integrated boards are different and mount differently, but I belive you can use a discrete fan with an integrated board. There may be software changes as well. I try to keep one of each in stock, but my inventory changes, so I'm not sure what I have right now. Send me a pm if you want me to check through the boxes.

  • W520 Motherboard Replacement Compatibility

I have a W520 with an i7 2760QM Quadro 1000m and the 4 RAM slots, a couple of weeks ago it died on me. Took it for a repair assessment - was told that the motherboard was dead and that the repair costs would be, for lack of a better word, obscene. Even the guy who ran the diagnostic had never seen a price quote come anywhere close to as high as what he found for mine. I could buy at least four refurbished W520s for the price of this one mobo.
So I was thinking I might just grab a mobo online and do a DIY repair, except the specific part I was quoted on (FRU 04W2036) seems to be nigh-impossible to find. However there appears to be plenty of W520 mobos floating around with different FRUs (04W2040, 04W2024, 04W2035, etc etc etc) that AFAICT look identical. I took a glance around the forums and saw nothing regarding this specific mobo serial, so I'm wondering if any, or some, or only the specific FRU 04W2036 for my specific configuration of W520 could be used to make a repair. What's the difference between all these varieties of mobos? The only thing I can think of that would seriously seperate this specific mobo would be having 4 RAM slots instead of the typical 2, but if any of these would otherwise be compatible I'd be more than willing to sacrifice a couple of slots if it meant avoiding a repair job that costs more than the whole laptop did brand new three years ago.

    Good day.
If you don't already have it, you might want to download your hardware manual:
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t520_t520i_w520_hmm_en_0A60078_08.pdf
Pages 135-137 show a number of W520 system boards, with some indicators of the differences, all of which appear to be permutations of: nVidia Quadro 1000M or 2000M, +/- AMT, +/- TPM and +/- RAID.
FRU P/N 04W2036 is specified as: "Nvidia Quadro 1000 M, non-AMT, TPM, no RAID adapter".
    For reference:
04W2040 differs only by having RAID.
04W2035 differs by having the Quadro 2000 M, AMT and RAID, but no TPM.
04W2024 is shown on page 134, but it's listed as being for the T520.
Finally, using 04W2036 on the maintenance parts site:
    http://www-304.ibm.com/shop/americas/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/default/PromotionDisplay?promoName=pa...
shows the part as in stock. You may wish to have a look and compare the price to what you've been quoted.
    Does this help?

  • G580 Motherboard Replacement then Display issues

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help me navigate Lenovo Support. Here is the back story:
My husband purchased a G580 laptop on 6/30/13. After less than 2 months it began shutting off mid use and not taking a charge. I called Lenovo support and they were quick to send a replacement battery and ac adapter on 8/28/13 after some troubleshooting over the phone could not resolve the issue. Unfortunately, the computer still did not boot or take a charge with the new parts, so I had to send it of to the Lenovo Depot Repair Center to have the motherboard replaced. The computer was received by Lenovo on 9/10/13 and the motherboard was replaced. Apparently, the computer was quality checked and all systems were operating normally. However, when we received the computer back the display would not turn on. After more troubleshooting on the phone with Lenovo Support I discovered that the keyboard had not been properly reseated and it was determined that the machine would have to be sent back a 2nd time because something was wrong with the display (maybe the cables had not been reconnected properly). The machine was received by Lenovo on 9/24/13 and on 9/25/13 we received a call from Lenovo Support saying that the computer was missing RAM and could not be repaired until we sent the RAM. My husband explained that we had not opened the computer since receiving it back from the Depot Repair Center and therefore the RAM must not have been reinstalled after the motherboard replacement by Lenovo. We thought at that point that the technicians would be able to install RAM and repair the computer since we had not removed the RAM and had explained the situation. After seeing no update on our case on the support website I called Lenovo Support on 10/2/13 and was told that the support representative would send another email to the case worker explaining the situation. Since there is still no update online, I called Lenovo Support this morning and was told that the representative could send another email request and that I would get a call later today when they have more options.
My question is, what can I do to make sure that the Lenovo Depot Repair Center is actively working on our case? The motherboard was replaced and I was told the computer was quality checked, but the keyboard was not reseated properly, the display would not work and apparantly the RAM was not reinstalled. I am surprised that this issue has not been resolved already considering that it is the 2nd time it has had to be sent back and it appears that no one has worked on the computer since 9/25/13. What can I do?
    Thanks for any suggestions!

  • Motherboard replacement

i have replaced my motherboard with the same one with the same product number
after that i dont know what to do ?
i turned on the laptop and just like expected it would be no sound and the colors are all messed up and the bios different and there is three red bars on the black screen
is there something i am doing wrong ?
do i need to update the BIOS or anything ? i made sure all the cables back to the way they should be

Remove the RAM and there should be an HP part number underneath it, possibly ending in 501 or 601
If you go to eBay and put that part number in their search box, there's a good chance that something will come up.
Also, one of the mods, will remove your email address as that is personal information or you may remove it yourself.
If the laptop is still under warranty, then contact HP in your area to set up a repair ticket.

  • Problems with PXI after motherboard replacement

    Hello,
    My PXI system consists
of PXI-1045, PXI-8360 and five NI
    PXI intruments (5152, 4065, 6552, 2532, 5404). I was working with this
system without problems for a long time. However, the motherboard of my
PC had a specific problem with the ethernet connenction and I decided to
replace the motherboard with a new one (same model). After the
replacement (the pc finally was fully functional), I tried to power on
the PXI chassis, but  I couldn't "see" any module in PXI chassism, using
the MAX. I must tell thatI didn't change the hard disk of the
pc, or anything else just the motherboard. After some experiments, I
finally fix the probrem with the following solution: First I unplugged
all the modules from PXI chassis. After that, I plugged one module and I
reboot the pc. After that I plugged the second one module and I reboot
    the pc. And so on...
    This was the only solution
that I found in order to indentify all the modules of the PXI chassis.
My question is why happend this
thing? Where are the PXI modules' adresses stored? Also, is the
procedure I used correct, or I had to do something else in order to make
    the system work?

    Hello,
Im glad that your system is up and running, ideally that behavior should not have occured. For future troubleshooting, also check Windows Device Manager to see if your devices show up if MAX does not detect them (Windows may have initially failed to detect the hardware). In a PXI system, the pxisys.ini file provides mappings from PCI logical addresses (PCI bus, device, and function numbers) to corresponding PXI slot numbers, allowing device driver software to identify the slot of a PXI module. There is a unique pxisys.ini file for every combination of PXI chassis and controller. See the link provided below for additional information regarding how to configure PXI systems in MAX.

Check the model of the motherboard inside the memory slot and be sure you are getting the right one. This one says it is compatible with your model, however. This appears to be a trustworthy seller and the price is a fraction of the HP list price for the part. Good luck.

  • HP P7-1074 Motherboard replacement. Stock = N-Alvorix-RS880-uATX (Alvorix)

I have a HP pavillion p7-1074 and have purchased new graphics card, power supply, and 2 additional sticks of ram making it 16gbs. everything worked fine without the new sticks of ram. but when i put them in nothing worked, and after a while of messing around with it i gave up and put the original ram in the correct 2 out of 4 slots. i got a beep code meaning a memory error. messing around with it for a few more hours trying to get it to work and came to the conclusion that my motherboard blew up some how. i need to replace the motherboard but hp said it would cost the same amount i paid for the computer. anyone know a way to either get a new one for around $100-150 or an aftermarket/different brand one that would work correctly. if anything i would want to upgrade not down grade but not spend the price of a new comp for i just spent $500 on upgrades. i would love suggestions and if not maybe a new computer that would be a good buy that would fit the NVIDA 760 graffics card, 650w power supply and 4 sticks of 4gb ram, quadcore and up ?? Thanks !!

    Dylan, welcome to the forum.
My first suggestion is to put the computer back to its original configuration for a test.  Nothing that you said lead me to believe that you have damaged your motherboard.  The only way that you have is by static electricity (ESD).  Once you have tested it in its original configuration, let me know what happens.  If it runs properly, we will start installing your upgrades one at a time to assure that they work.

  • TOSHIBA SATELLITE A105 -S4284 WHAT NEXT AFTER MOTHERBOARD REPLACEMENT

Ok so I am having some troubles
The motherboard was fried and a new one has been installed.
When I power the unit on it remains a black screen runs for 40-60 seconds and shuts down.
It will not load cd's and I think I am missing something and not understanding something
I tried to run a new windows xp program and you can hear the disk running but the screen remains black and runs the same as above for 40-60 seconds and shuts down
More or less once a motherboard is replaced upon start up what should would see or expect?
Is what I seeing the normal process?

In safe mode it is not possible to standby. That is disabled. Tried to make it possible with Toshiba's power control service, but it is not available.
In a new account, the BSOD still occurs. I created a new account, logged out of my account, and went to the new one. Tried standby. It came out of standby for a second and then had the blue screen of death.
In checking the event manager, I seen errors shortly before crashes sometimes that involve the CD.
So I went to Toshiba.com and downloaded the DVD RAM driver and ran it, reinstalling the driver, and then restarted.  I also saw that there was C-Dilla driver in my drivers. I uninstalled the SafeCast program that I think is associated with C-Dilla, moved the C-Dilla driver out of the drivers to a distant folder, unchecked C-Dilla in MSCONFIG so it won't load (it was still there after removing SafeCast), and then reinstarted. So with a new DVD Ram driver and neutering, I hope, of C-Dilla, I tried things again and the system appeared to be crash free - better than it had been. But then a crash occurred - BSOD - and upon restart, the CD locked up, and crashed again.
After restarting, there was a new dialog that popped up after Windows launched indicating that there had been an error with SONIC DLA. Before the crash, there was an event n the event viewer:
My last error comes from the Plug and Play Manager:
The device 'MAT**bleep**A DVD-RAM UJ-841S' (IDE\CdRomMAT**bleep**A_DVD-RAM_UJ-841S________________1.60____\5&226f6cf2&0&0.0.0) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.
Hmmm. So things are still vulnerable. Any ideas? Buy new CD drive? Or new computer?
