    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
If you system model has two overlaying slots
It should work with 8 GB    two 4GB cards

  • C771US (C700 Series) Maximum Memory

If I install 4GB of ram in this laptop (I know HP doesn’t support it), the memory will test ok in the BIOS but Vista x86 will blue screen with PFN_LIST_CORRUPT.   If I reduce the memory to 3GB (1 GB in slot closest to MB and 2GB in the other bank), Vista will run stable.  Happens with G-Skill F2-5300CL4D-4GBSQ or Kingston KHX5300S2LLK2/4GR RAM.
I've tested this with BIOS versions  F.34 (Current) and F.33.  It would be nice if HP Compaq would update the Insyde BIOS to correct this issue.
I know that only 2.8-3.3 GB of memory is available for use by a 32-bit OS.  A 32 bit OS has 4GB of address space available.  Approx .7 - 1.2 GB of addresses are used for other hardware thereby leaving around 2.8 - 3.3 GB of addresses available for main memory.  64 bit OS would make all 4GB of RAM available to the OS though.  I’m going to test the system with 4GB of RAM and Vista x64 this weekend to see if it blue screens as well.

    Tom

After further testing, I found that the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Vista and Unbuntu 8.10 will not run on this model notebook if 4GB of RAM is installed.  Vista blue screens with a PFN_LIST_CORRUPT message, the 64 bit version of Ubuntu crashes with an ACPI error and the 32-bit version of Ubuntu crashes with a large list of problems.
I have tested all of this memory with Memtest86 and have found zero errors.  As such, I believe this limitation to be a result of a BIOS bug or a poor memory timing/voltage configuration setting in the BIOS that is not accessible to the consumer.
All of the operating systems will run if 3GB is installed (1GB in the slot closest to the mainboard and 2GB in the other slot - Note: OS will crash if 2GB is in slot closest to Mainboard).   I have three of these notebooks each having 3GB of ram that run rock solid stable. I am using Kingston Hyper-X KHX5300S2LLK2 DIMMs.
While I understand that HP officially only supports running this notebook with 2GB of RAM and as such is under no obligation to address this issue, it would be nice if their engineers would fix it in a future update of the BIOS.
If your running a 32-bit OS, 3GB is close to maximum amount of memory that the OS can use (any thing more is a waste).  However, a 64-bit OS can take full advantage of all 4GB.

    Tom

  • Maximum RAM of my laptop

    Hello there,
I am new in the forum. I want to know maximum RAM memory of my laptop Pavilion g6 model: 1008eq
It has installed 1x3GB, so can i add more like 1x2GB or 3,4 GB's ?
    Thanks.

Here is the Manual: Your Service Manual You do not have 1 x 3 gigs. Memory modules come in 1, 2, 4, 8 sizes only so you have a 1 gig and a 2 gig. The HP specs say your maximum memory is 4 gigs but the Manual says 8 gigs and I am trusting the Manual.  See page 51 of the Manual for installation instructions. To max it out you will have to remove the 2 modules you have and install 2 of these: 4 GB PC3 10600 1333 MHz shared 621569-001 Here it is on amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/HP-DDR3-SDRAM-Memory-Module/dp/B0030L3B8E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437313975&sr=8-1&keywords=621569-001&pebp=1437313978332&perid=0JBW8Y69J7W6FH7VV963 It will be $48 for 8 gigs which is not too bad. You could also just remove the 1 gig and replace it with a 2 gig for a total of 4 gigs.  http://www.amazon.com/Hynix-PC3-10600-204-Pin-Laptop-SODIMM/dp/B004K4IULS/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1437314092&sr=8-16&keywords=2+GB+PC3+10600 1 gig additional does not sound like much but that one extra gig is the sweet spot for price/performance.  In case you are more of a visual learner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6m9YrjfHZE If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I want to upgrade my macbook pro 15-inch i7 2.3GHz memory and I want to know what is the maximum RAM it could take

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It looks like you have got an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro, so you can use 16 GB of RAM. You can buy more RAM at OWC or Crucial. Remember that you cannot upgrade RAM in MacBooks Pro with Retina display
In case you have got a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, you can only install 8 GB of RAM

  • Maximum RAM support

My laptop is  HP Pavilion 15-e055ee
The maximum RAM that can support?
Can I upgraded RAM up to 16GB ?

    Hi,
Based on the following reliable source, no - it only supports 8Gb:
       http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/HP-memory/Pavilion+15+Series/Pavilion+15-e055ee-upgrades.html
and the following link shows its specs (already has 8Gb):

  • Is there a maximum RAM capacity for a Macbook Pro 13 inch Mid 2009?

My questions is essentially, is there a maximum RAM capacity for a Macbook Pro 13 inch Mid 2009? I'm aware there are two RAM slots in my machine, but in past experiences with other laptops/desktop computers (not Apple) there was a default maximum which couldn't be overidden despite how much RAM was inserted.

You can upgrade up to 8GB using 2 x 4GB 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 modules. That's the maximum (unlike 2011 and later models which Apple tells you can only hold 8GB but can actually run 16GB).
If you do order RAM, order from a Mac memory specialist - Crucial, OWC, Corsair, etc.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Maximum RAM upgrade?

What is the maximum RAM I can safely install in my 21.5 inch, Mid 2011, iMac 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5.
I have the 2 x 2 GB that came factory installed.

If you model is iMac11,2 then it's 16 GB.

Go go Crucial.com and check to see what is available for your model.  Crucial is a very reputable memory supplier for Macs.

  • SQL query returns few rows, but holds on with several Gbs of RAM memory used

If I perform the following query:
    SELECT d.DocumentGUID, d.DocumentID
    FROM ImportDataBase.dbo.Document d
    LEFT OUTER JOIN ContentDataBase.dbo.Document d2 ON (d.DocumentGUID = d2.DocumentGUID)
WHERE ( d2.DocumentGUID IS NULL ) -- new document in the ImportDB
    OR ( d2.DocumentGUID IS NOT NULL AND d.QueryContent <> d2.QueryContent ) -- modified document in the ImportDB
It returns around 1000 rows and takes about 3 minutes to complete
It also raises up the RAM memory used from 2GB to 9GBs.
This memory used will remain used untill I restart the server. I have no need to make use of that memory, I already copied the returned rows of that query into a note pad for example. And any other reason of SQL has to  to keep that memory stored by
that query, I  dont want it.
Is there a way to release that memory I really dont need my SQL server to keep, without having to restart the SQL server?
and without topping the max memory the sql server uses, since I need my SQL server to use as much as it needs in other tasks(I dont think it needs to hold on to the above query memory used)
    Thank You very much.

A query can be resource intensive even if it returns a single row. Generally it is a good idea to set SQL Server MAX memory.
BOL: "Optimizing Server Performance Using Memory Configuration Options
The memory manager component of Microsoft SQL Server eliminates the need for manual management of the memory available to SQL Server. When SQL Server starts, it dynamically determines how much memory to allocate based on how much memory the operating system
and other applications are currently using. As the load on the computer and SQL Server changes, so does the memory allocated. For more information, see Memory Architecture.
The following server configuration options can be used to configure memory usage and affect server performance:
    •min server memory
    •max server memory
    •max worker threads
    •index create memory
    •min memory per query
The min server memory server configuration option can be used to ensure that SQL Server does not release memory below the configured minimum server memory once that threshold is reached. This configuration option can be set to a specific value based on the
size and activity of your SQL Server. If you choose to set this value, set it to some reasonable value to ensure that the operating system does not request too much memory from SQL Server, which can affect SQL Server performance.
The max server memory server configuration option can be used to specify the maximum amount of memory SQL Server can allocate when it starts and while it runs. This configuration option can be set to a specific value if you know there are multiple applications
running at the same time as SQL Server and you want to guarantee that these applications have sufficient memory to run. If these other applications, such as Web or e-mail servers, request memory only as needed, then do not set the max server memory server
configuration option, because SQL Server releases memory to them as needed. However, applications often use whatever memory is available when they start and do not request more if needed. If an application that behaves in this manner runs on the same computer
at the same time as SQL Server, set the max server memory server configuration option to a value that guarantees that the memory required by the application is not allocated by SQL Server."

  • Maximum RAM which can be fitted?

I have a Powerbook G4 17 inch, serial number W8*******QRV which currently has 1Gb. of RAM fitted.
I have tried to fit 2 x 1Gb. of DDR1 333MHz. PC - 2700 (SODIMM) but have had no success.
The laptop does not give memory error beeps, but instead displays a request to power off and re-start in English, French, German and Japanese.
Is this machine somehow limited as to how much RAM it can accept, or is tyhere something else which is preventing a successful upgrade?
I know that it is an old machine, but it still functions very well for my purposes.
Any assistance would be gratefully received.
    <Edited by Host>

The maximum RAM for that PowerBook model is 2GB; there appears to be a problem with one of the RAM modules installed.

Is it possible to install a 8 GB of RAM memory to a late 2008 aluminium macbook?

Apple's stated maximum is not always the maximum the hardware will support. If the 4GB modules were too expensive when this MacBook was manufactured, then there would be no point in offering 8GB as an option.
I'm sure there are other explanations also, but all that really matters is that the maximum amount of memory your machine can handle is 8GB.
