Has anyone ever deployed a Harvest MSI app via Zenworks 3?

Are you having any particular issues? Errors?
Have you tried http://www.appdeploy.com.
They often deal with MSI related issues for many apps there.
They can't help with ZEN, but if need be we can also help translate any info
from there to the ZEN world.

DNS Nameserver change via ZEN?

We do not use DHCP in our environment. Is there a way to push out a new DNS
Nameserver IP address to the workstations using a ZEN application?

K8T NEO - MSI/Via Raid Tool useless

I am one of those unfortunate people who bought a K8T Neo FSR Motherboard (Mine has been replaced 3 times after failing totally but whose counting?). I am now having serious problems with my fourth version of this motherboard or at least I think I am. I am not sure!
Let me explain:
My SATA HDD Disk drives keep failing - or more correctly - I am getting messages from Windows Error Reporting that tells me there are disk problems. The exact error messages are reproduced below:

I started getting these messages from a brand new SATA HDD which I immediately replaced. All went well for a week or so and then I started getting the exact same error messages all over again!
Were both HDD's really defective? I am beginning to wonder!
The practical implication of the above errors is that my computer freezes totally - I can't do anything at all - no mouse - no keyboard - no saving work - nothing! When I reboot and run Scandisk /F /R I sometimes get some disk surface errors but mostly I don't.
To my way of thinking there are two possibilities:
(1) Both these disk drives have genuine technical problems (ie such as surface errors)
(2) The MSI/Via SATA disk controllers on the motherboard are faulty and this is causing disk errors or possibly even disk crashes (is this even possible? I don't know!)
After the bad run that I have already had with K8T NEO motherboards please forgive me for being suspicious that my HDD problems really could result from a faulty SATA/HDD/Controller rather than genuine disk errors.
To help resolve the issue I downloaded and installed MSI's latest SATA HDD disk drivers which includes the VIA RAID TOOL. The raid tool includes an option to "check the status of controllers and disk drives" and a system "log" which is supposed to record all error conditions/events that occur on devices it controls.
The main problem here is that *IT DOESN'T WORK* !!!
Just a short wile ago my system started acting strangely and then it froze again (third time this hour). I opened the MSI/VIA Raid Tool from the System Tray and checked the logs - There was nothing in them at all - and yet in Windows Error Reporting there were 5 distinct error conditions reported. Obviously the MSI/VIA Raid Tool doesn't work too well.
I am at a loss as to what to do next. Has anybody out there had similar problems?
What steps should I take to resolve these issues?

Not sure how a scope can let you know if you are supplying enough amps. Ripple and noise are basically non issues as the voltages are further regulated on the MB before they get to the componant level.
Almost everything is now regulated from the 12v supply unlike past systems were. As Watts do not tell how much 12v is being supplied by the PSU it is a non starter when you desribe your PSU. You can have a PSU that is 500w and only provides 8a on the 12v rail. That will not even allow an A64 system to startup. As is said over and over again in the forum don't assume that a 500w PSU will ruin your Rig. 24 or more amps on the 12v rail is recommended for a small to mid size build now days. More may be needed as you add parts to your system.
As this is not a common problem on that board, and I should know as I built a fairly large rig from one... We need to have complete specs. Did you know that a high end ATi Vid Card can use more juice than many CPU's you can use on that board? See why this is a concern that we get all the specs?
Like Hans said though I won't bother asking again either. Without some idea what we are looking at all we are doing is looking into a crystal ball. We would like to see if we can help but working with a crystal ball isn't in the tech manual.

MS office settings via Zen

Hi Everyone,
How does one manage MS Office settings on the desktop after Office has been installed? I have a custom MSI that I use to install office. That works fine for installation. Now I have to change a few settings that I can't find in the registry. One of them is disabling Smart Quotes. Do I need to use the Resource kit and reinstall or is there an easier, less painful way?

We have Word 2002 (Office XP).
I used the Maintenance Wizard, which allows changes to office settings. I changed the smart quotes option, applied it to my account, and it did nothing. The office splash screen appeared for a minute, though.
I'll work some more on it and provide feedback.

I do not see this behavior on my copy of Word 2003.
Personally I have not played with this setting before so I could not say

Problem with installing biztalk MSI via BTSTASK ImportApp -GAC_MSIL is not updating correctly using powershell

Program: Biztalk Server 2013
Server: 2012 Standard
issue: Installing via the BizTalk Server Administration Console using import MSI works fine, installing via powershell does not. Only a few of the items that should be updated in GAC_MSIL are being updated. The powershell script finishes with
Command succeeded with 0 errors, 0 warnings.
Looking through the powershell script's log file I see some warnings:

Visible differences in the Admin console is that when I stop the application via the Gui only the main application I want is stopped. When I stop the main application via powershell using the above functions a referenced application also shuts down
and that doesn't happen using the gui. When starting the main application via the Gui it also fires up the host instances. When starting the main application up via powershell it doesn't start the host instances and I have to make separate calls to
start them again.

Update to this:
In the above script running a MSIEXEC install after importing the app updates the GAC_MSIL just fine!

I'm still very curious why the import app on the gui has a slightly different behavior. I wonder if the gui also just runs a msiexec in the background after the app imports.

Deploy Quicktime.msi via gpo on Vista

I need to build a MSI package for our Vista Business computers. Version is Quicktime v.7.3.0.70. Executing Quicktime.msi manually on Vista installs fine. But deploying via gpo (no MST, assigned to user, [install at login] not checked) I get the message
"A newer version of Quicktime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of Quicktime is installed".
Quicktime was never installed on the computer. It has a clean image.
I have set verbose mode for deployment logging: [HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer]
"Logging"="voicewarmup".
In the log file, a line gets my attention just before the afore error message.

See the version number 'qtVersion=07308000' which is higher than 073070 which is the version I am installing.
Where does Quicktime installer find this info? Am I on the right track to solve this problem? I have put almost three days trying to get this package working.

How to install Linux installation on SATA hdd with MSI VIA KM4M-V

I'm having AMD 2600+
MSI motherboard with VIA KM4M chipset
80GB SATA harddisk (1 unit) with 256 MB RAM
When I tried installing Linux, setup proceeds until the HDD partitioning screen and I get the msg " NO HDD found" or something similar messg.
My question is 1 - does the above config supports Linux installation, if yes then how to do it and if no, then whats the solution.
Has anyone faced similar situation...pl reply ASAP. I'd be obliged....

Doubt VIA (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=610&kind=1 ), have support for Linux? Check http://www.viaarena.com!
Everything is alright in BIOS, SATA enabled and so on?
You might also check the manufacturer of the hard disk for software and advice.

Embed a URL in a MSI via GPO - Windows 2008 AD

we want to push a software using GPO. Its a small MSI. During the manual install of this software we type in a URL into, Is there a way via AD/GPO we can embed the URL so when the MSI is installed via GPO the URL is also populated - or any free software
that can the job here?

You can edit the MSI and thus update the property table with the URL you
need. Orca (from office resource kit) is a free program for that purpose.

Question about MSI/VIA/ATi compatibility

As you can see, I may be getting an X850XT soon for my 6800gt. Ihave had one ATi card in the past which was my 9800 pro a whileback, and it was a good card, but I did have some issues back then,whether it was problems with VIA or not. Anyways, I have read somecomplaints by other people who say that ATi cards and VIA chipsetsdon't and especially MSI boards get along sometimes and cause problems in games. I was hopingthat this board can shine some light into this, thanks inadvance! Do MSI boards seem to suffer more with ATi products rather than NV products?

I've owned both the 6800GT and the X800XT (both AGP) and used both with K8T Neo2 board. I had some mouse issues when using the 6800GT. It would disappear during gaming. This was nVidia driver related. Overall, I think they are both fine with MSI boards in either nVidia or VIA chipsets. The occassional driver issue is hard to avoid from either camp.
I have used numerous MSI boards, both VIA and nVidia, in the past with Radeon 9700Pro and 9800Pro and nVidia MX cards. No troubles that I can warn you about. Maybe some issues arise when overclocking? I usually don't overclock & when I do, it is mild. I think if you run pretty standard fare you will be fine no matter what you choose. Just my observations...

Msi Via Kt880

I have an MSI KT880 VIA board with a xp 3000+ fsb 400 with a XFX 6600GT GDDR3 on it and now i wanna upgrade the ram memory but i cant find a test report on that board for the memory modules that work on this board i have got a very good price on a set of kingston PC3200 1024 kit with 2x512MB (KVR400X64C3AK2/1G)
Can any one tell me if i can run these memorys on this board ?? so i dont buy them and they dont work on this board.

Deploying msi via group policy without administrative rights

We are having a problem with flash player not working without
Administrative right on the machine. We thought we could get around
this by using the flash_player_active_x.msi and installing through
group policy. The install during a computer reboot (if assigning to
a computer) or during a user sign on (if assigned to a user) seems
to work fine.
However, when you actually try to load a webpage with flash,
nothing. The component doesn't actually get installed into the
browser. As soon as you log on with a privilaged account, and
browse to a flash enabled page, the install finishes, the active x
control is loaded and now all users can see it.
However, I'd really prefer not to have to go around to each
computer and log on with the administrator account - kind of
defeats the purpose of group policy.
All computers are Win XP sp2 with IE 7. The active directory
server is a Win2k server.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Something ia going on with FM Stations via Zen Mi

Hello,
I have this problem since i upgraded the firmware of my Zen Micro.
Before upgrading, when i was listening to a radio station (let's say 96.90, which i had saved as preset) and for accident i "touched" the forward button, and got at 96.95, then i pressed the "Back" button and when i returned to the FM stations, i still had the preset No. at 96.90 etc.
With my new upgrade, when i make a "mistake" like the one i described before, and i press the "Back" button, when i return to the FM stations, i cannot choose the saved preset I want - any preset at all. All I have to do, to appear the presets again, is to save a band as a new preset and then i get all my presets back.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Are you using the play button to toggle between presets and non-preset mode? If you make a "mistake" there's no need to back out of the FM radio function and then go back in... that sounds like what you're doing, if I understand you correctly.

Help with Patch install via Zen Wk 3

I have this patch I want to have installed on my users machine without the
user not having to do a thing.
Want it to install automatically - It is MS Patch MS05-011
As I've stated before we are running Zenworks 3
Our own Admin was a whiz at Zenworks - yet he never shared what he knew with
us.
I just want the patch to install - the machine will reboot and end of story.
And when they sign on again - it will not do it all over again
That's what I'm running into.
Is there a way I can create a batch file for this?
My knowledge of this Zen and a batch file is limited
