CAB / GAL Shared Addressbook

Hi all,
Has anybody a good idea for a global address book? I've read the doc and tried many way's, but anything doesn't work.
1. Public address book:
I create a user, create addresses and share this. On the Web Client, I can search and see the public address book but when I use the calendar for windows or outlook, I can't use this address book. (SDK can only search addresses in my address book).
2. GAL
This addresses was written into OID and can edit, modify or delete only with OID Manager, Provisioning Console or other LDAP Editor but not with Calendar or so.
3. Publish address book
With Calendar for windows, I can publish my address book and other user can retrieve those addresses. When I change, as sample, the phone number only my addresses was modified.
We need a shared global address book. Is this possible?

Unshare, share again, let the user deny one time, user logs out and in,
share again, user accepts this time.
If not structural rebuild GWCheck on the user that does not see the share.

I did all the suggestions but the problem persist (unshare/share and structural rebuild).

  • How to configure shared addressbook on Mac OS X Server + LDAP

I have tried to study this issue but haven´t find any clear answer.
We need to set up a shared addressbook on our organisation, apparently this is best to implement with LDAP(?).
Users should be able to add new contacts with their email clients and use the shared db with Entourage/Thunderbird.
We aren´t using OpenDirectory so the LDAP would serve only for the contacts.
Is this possible to achieve with OS X Server?
If so, how do I start? by enabling OpenDirectory and configuring LDAP? I didn´t find any way to add addresses or handling address db:n on Server Admin.

    Have you looked at Addressbook4LDAP...
    http://j2anywhere.com
I think it gets installed elsewhere from the server, particularly if the server is already running ldap. Some favourable comment on other sites although I've not tried it myself yet. It's on my list for next week...

  • How to setup a shared addressbook for multiple users (Family) or a group?

I want to have a centralized addressbook for my family and thought, the addressbookserver would provide that.
I have actually setup 2 useraccounts on the server, activated the addressbookservice and set up a new addressbookaccount in Mail, Contacts, Calender on the clients.
What I get is two individual addressbooks hosted on the server.
What I wanted to get is to see a common addressbook for group contacts.
    What did I wrong?
Where on the server are the addressbook files stored?
    Thanks in advance

thx for reading, actually I found the answers a few seconds after posting my questions in " More like this".

  • Sharing Addressbook with two accounts on one machine

    Hi All,
somehow I cannot find out how to share my addessbook entries with my girlfriends account on the same mac.
I already did the same with iphoto where I created an alias of the iphoto data folder and which replaced her iphoto data folder. Now she has full access rights and can also edit the pictures.
I would like to the same with addressbook but when replacing the folder "User/Library/Application Support/Adress Book" address book does not start anymore.
Can someone please give me a hint!
    Many thanks and best regards

  • Shared Outlook Addressbook Contacts not displaying

We have a shared Exchange addressbook with distribution email groups.
When someone connects to the shared addressbook, composes an email to a group, the email distribution list is empty.
In troubleshooting, I noticed that when we expand the distribution list to view the recipients, most of the recipients are missing and only semicolons appear.
Further troubleshooting, I notice that when I open the distribution list with my Outlook client and click on the Update Now icon, and then go to create the email then when I expand the group the email addresses now appear.
Now, my Outlook profile is a cached profile.  The shared contact list that I pulled the distribution list from is an online/non-cached shared contact list.
What I also found is that if I switched my Outlook client to be online only(not cached) the share address book lists appear properly when expanded.
Is there any way to make this list appear correctly without having to click on update now for each and every distribution list in the shared contacts list we have on the server?
I would really prefer that every time one wants to use this shared contact list, they do not have o click the update not button or switch from cached mode to make this work.
    T.I.A
    Thanks in Advance!

    Hi,
I noticed that the issue didn't happen when you were using Outlook in Online mode. Please also check whether the issue happens in OWA.
If OWA works well and the issue only happens in Outlook Cached mode for some users not all users, we can do the following steps in Outlook to download Offline Address Book to check whether the issue persists:
    1. Delete the *.oab files in the following folders in local machine:
         \Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Offline Address Books
    2. Create a new Outlook profile that uses Cached Exchange Mode.
    3. Start Outlook 2010 with this new profile.
    4. In the ribbon click Send / Receive, click
Send/Receive Groups and then click Download Address Book.

  • Share outlook addressbooks via windows sharepoint services

    hello,
I'm shopping around for a server that can integrate to active directory (on win2k3), does email, does samba (for user home drives), and has shared contacts, etc for outlook 2003.
There is a server already running on the network with active directory. I came across a possible way to resolve the lack of a shared addressbook in the mac server.
If you have all winxp and officeXP workstations and a win2k3 server, the win2k3 server can run windows sharepoint services at no additional cost. The sharepoint services is basically a portal made to run on modern windows servers.
One of the things sharepoint can do is share contact/address books to outlook 2003. This looks like a very nice feature of the win2k3 servers.
My question is, has anyone done this? Does it really work or is this vaporware from microsoft?
If this works, I think I've got my shared addressbook problem solved.
    Thanks,
    Oskar

You can create OD entries for conatcts and share those to Mac & PC clients.
    Would that help?
Or maybe take a look at AddressOMatic

  • Address Book Issues

I just this week finally upgraded from 10.4.11 Tiger to the latest Snow Leopard through the Mac Box Set. I had some minor issues with a few things, but my biggest problems were with my contacts in Address Book.
After the installation, I looked at my contacts in Snow Leopard and only 40 of 225 had migrated over to the new system! Fortunately, I had, of course, backed up my main drive as it existed under Tiger just prior to the system upgrade, so I restarted with drive 2, opened Address Book, exported my contacts file to drive 1, restarted again with drive 1, and imported the exported vCards file into Address Book in Snow Leopard. This seemed to work well enough, as all of my 225 contacts were back.
But then I decided I didn't like the picture I had attached to one of my contacts and decided to replace it with a newer one. I tried every approach I could think of but I could NOT get rid of the old picture. I deleted the old one several different ways and chose the new picture to replace it and then save the entry, but no matter what I did, if I went to another contact and back to this one, or stayed on this contact, closed Address Book and reopened it, every time I returned to the contact with the picture the old one was back. Argghhh! One of the things I thought was interesting is that every time I clicked to choose a new picture, the "new" one was there and I could "set" it, but it would not stay set when the contact was reopened. Finally, I had to resort to deleting that card and re-entering the information from scratch with the new picture, and that worked.
I suppose I'll never know why only 40 of 225 contacts migrated over when I went directly from Tiger to Snow Leopard. Some would probably say that's what I get for waiting, and maybe they're right, but does anyone know whether imported vCards are typically less editable than entries that are entered by hand?

Thanks for responding Herbert. I have not tried that. I'll be on-site on Thursday and give it a try.

  • Address Book in Lion Server....Read Only

    Hi,
Is there a way on how to making the addressbook server read only (meaning can't be edited)?
Last year, I setup a Lion Server for a company that will serve as an Addressbook server for them and at the same time
configuring their devices via Profile manager. Problem is every now and then, clients unintentionally sometimes adding address or deleting
some of the address (phone numbers) in that addressbook resulting to frequent remake of the companies shared addressbook.
    Here is my desired setup:
An addressbook that only the admin can made a change (add/delete contacts).
Im looking into LDAP as a addressbook but Im not familiar with it.
    Thanks in advance...

Did anybody answer back to you yet about how to setup READ/CREATE/EDIT/DELETE rights on the Address Book Server ! We have had poeple in our company ereasing entries on shared address books so many times that we are thinking about switching back to windows.... I mean come on people at apple, these where the basics back in the days of DBase, how can they be missing today... I have trouble comprehending this way of thinking!
I found this site on the net wich looks somewhat what I am looking for, but this seems to influence the whole server, I need this on address book level though:

  • I want to share address books between different users on same PC

    Hi
We have a PC with two different Users but there is one email address shared between them. We have a copy of Thunderbird installed one each User and one User has multiple accounts for privacy reasons. It would be really helpful to have a shared addressbook in common to access addresses from. Is this possible?
    Cheers, Marcus

    Marcus,
Nothing really easy comes to mind, but here are two ideas to consider, depending on how frequently the address book changes:
    1) If the shared email address happens to be gmail, then each user can install the gContactSync add-on and let Google have the master copy. This would give each of you frequent synchronizations to the same address book.
    2) An easy, but not automatic approach would be for one user to be in charge of changes and periodically (daily, weekly, ...) export the address book to an ldif file. The other user then could import the address book to his/her TB account.

  • Subscribed calendars and then delete a user

    Hi,
When someone (user A) has subscribed to a calendar from another user (user B), and that user (B) is afterwards deleted, user A sees in his calendar view 'this calendar is not accessible' for the calendar of user B.
Is there a way to have these orphaned calendar subscriptions be removed automatically by some script, or can something else be done ? The user now seems to think there's a problem with the other person's calendar.
Same thing for shared addressbooks I assume (although I haven't tested the behaviour on this).
Any suggestions ? JES4 and JES5 behave the same (just the notice 'this calendar is not accessible)
    regards,
    Tom.

    Hi,
    tom_absi wrote:

    1) Orphan detection script
    2) Account de-provisioning script
The first level is more difficult then the second simply because it requires a comparison of every subscription against every active/inactive user to see which combinations are no-longer valid. This includes both subscriptions and calendar group members.
The second level is a more directed but still requires parsing through every users icsset: and icsSubscribed: attributes for mention of the deprovisioned account and modifying/removing them as appropriate.
Same thing for shared addressbooks I assume (although I haven't tested the behaviour on this).Yes. In this case it requires looking through the o=piserverdb database for entries such as this:
    dn: piEntryID=e113d7b060660,piPStoreOwner=usera,o=sun.com,o=PiServerDb
    objectClass: PITYPEBOOK
    objectClass: piRemoteBook
    objectClass: top
    piBookType: abook
    piRemotePiURL: ps:///sun.com/userb/e113d7b060660
    piEntryID: e113d7b060660
    displayName: ps:///sun.com/userb/e113d7b060660
Another consideration is shared IMAP folder subscriptions. Fortunately if a folder no longer exists UWC/WebMail just doesn't show it any more. IMAP email clients on the other hand need to explicitly unsubscribe from the folder otherwise they get an error message advising that the mailbox no longer exists when they click on it.
Any suggestions ? JES4 and JES5 behave the same (just the notice 'this calendar is not accessible)Deprovisioning shared-folder/addressbook/calendars subscriptions hasn't been addressed by any Sun provided utilities -- I suggest logging a Sun support case to get an RFE (request for enhancement) logged. The more customers that push for this capability to be provided the more chance it has of being implemented in a future release.
    Regards,
    Shane.

  • Share only part of address book

    thank you for readig this.
Is there a way to share only part of an addressbook? I don't want to share every entry with my kids -- figure, there are things in it i don't want to share and there are A LOT of entries they really could care less about.
    Thanks for your help.

Does it matter if the kids are on a different
computer with their own addressbook and userid? or
is sharing addressbook an all or none thing?
    Hi helicopter,
If I understand your question, the only way your kids would get your AB list on a different computer is if you have a .mac account and were syncing with that computer. Of course if you have a .mac account you can place files (and maybe a AB group, I haven't tried that) in your Drop Box folder for them to access.
    Hard Drive>Users>"Home">Public>Drop Box
And yes, I think it is an "all or nothing" share from Preferences.
    Good Luck,
    John

  • Ichat user details showing as "another" user

I have a MacMiniServer 10.8 that is running the Address Book for my company
I have a shared AddressBook that all users access for all Company data
Several of my users have been complaining that their iChat "User" name was being displayed as another member of staff.
I have had them set their own "My Card" details to themselves.
This then changes their own display name shown in iChat.
However this then affects another member of staff.
Then changing that member of staffs "My Card" changes either the original user or someone else.
It does not seem to affect all users.
I have tried getting users to create a "Local" Vcard in AddressBook and set "My Card" to that, but it is still affecting other users.
Sometimes the users have a Local and a Networked address book entry both showing as "Their" card at the same time.
Has anyone any experience of this and advice of how to stop this behaviour
I asked this question under ichat "discussions" and was advised to ask it here also
    Regards Tony

    Hi
    enter their details (including
credit card details) directly without logging in (is
this bad practice?).I would not say this was "bad practice" as most sites where people pay for items by credit card are public. They do however use Secure connections to ensure that the data being sent to the server is protected.
I will need to look into this further to try and figure out a way to kill the session, or at least mark it as old. However as a work around you can always clear the cache for items on the page. This will reset the values of the items. Create a Process to clear the cache after you have done all your other processing. This way at least if someone else visits the site using the same session id, there will be no data visible to them.
PS. I would disable the ability for users to enter financial details in your app until this is fixed, as I personally would not be too happy that my card details could potentially be visible to anyone with the correct knowledge!!

  • Element sid in abook item

    Hi,
I assumed, that in GW8 each addressbook item (contact, organization,...) has an
    unique <sid> element?
When testing here with GW 8.0.1 each item from a personal abook has such a <sid>
element, but running on an customer system, no single item ererurns that <sid>
    element.
So, under what circumstances can that element be missing on items from a (shared)
    addressbook?
Evtl. is the answer, that the <sid> is not exposed to the sharer, but just to the
    owner of the abook?
    Thanks for clarification in advance.
    Regards,
    Markus

Solved! My customer changed the schema from 1.03 back to 1.0 and so the <sid> element
    never get returned.

  • Help with GAL/CAB please

    Hello everybody.
We are now evaluating OCS 10g in my company, up until now i can say i'm very pleased with it, it has a lot of features we are finding very useful.
But i'm having a problem with something very simple...how to add addresses to the Global Address List, it may sound absurd, but i can't figure out how to add contacts to a global list so everybody can see them in outlook/webmail/calendar.
I have been reading about the CAB too, but it seems like this one is not a public contact list as the GAL is.
When i add a new mailbox using the OIDDAS the user info automatically gets added to the GAL, but i want to add contacts from other domains too (there are too many...), just the email address, name and phone.

When you add a user out of your OCS domain, the "address type" is set to "SMTP" and will appear in GAL only if gal_enableldapsearch parameter is set to true.
To see these address, go to Calendar Admin - Server Administration - Server Configuration and add the parameter "gal_enableldapsearch = TRUE" in [ENG] section then bounce (stop/start) the "Calendar Server".
To refresh GAL in outlook, go to TOOLS - SEND/RECEIVE - Download address list.
Alternatively, you can set "gal-minimal-lifetime-days = 0" in [OUTLOOK_CONNECTOR] section. The default value is 7 and represents the number of days for the refresh interval. A value of "0" (zero days) means that every time the application is started, GAL updates are automatically queried. If a new GAL is available, it is downloaded.
