Cabbot select audio output
Hi,
I have a Mac Mini. He is conected to my TV. I also conected a headphone plug from the Miac Mini into my stereo installation.
When going to systempreferences - audio I could see in output the name of my TV -type: HDMI and below it says headphone.
When I choose TV I had sound on the TV or I could select Headphone I had sound through my stereo-installation.
After buying Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premiere it shows also "ADOBE" in the list. I didn't understand the use of this, or what to do with it.
Now, after upgrading to Lion I only see my TV and headphone. When I click on "TV" it will highlight for a second and automatically turns back to "Headphone"!!
So I can not choose anymore my audio output. Is this because of Lion?
Now I discovered that the only way I can use the oudio output to my TV is to ejected the Headphone-plug.
Is this the only solution or does anyone know how to recover in the old situation, so that I can make a choise in the preferences screen for audio??
(all the cables are in the back!!!)
kr,
pascal
Hi
I have same problem over here. Just upgraded to Lion (10.7.2) . Used to output to HDTV via AV receiver over hdmi port. Now is not working, not even showing in -control panel- sound settings, anymore !
Headphone port is not working at all ! At least streaming to ATV2 it's working uraaaa !
I'm using ITunes 10.5 and before upgrading to Lion everything was working flawless.
Miss the Leopard now .
Annoying glitch ...just need a patch, hopefully in a future update

Selecting audio output from iPhone - bluetooth or dock?
Hi
I have a problem selecting audio output on my iPhone 3GS with my incar system
Set up:
Dension ipod dock connected direct to CD changer port on Radio
Bury Bluetooth hands free device.(CC9060)
My preferred option is to have the Dension play my audio.
However when I turn on the iPod function on the iPhone, the audio defaults to the Bury hands free system and tried to stream the audio via bluetooth which the phone cannot do.
On the bottom right of the screen on the iPhone, I see a speaker icon - I click on this and I get the option to select the iPod Dock or the CC 9060 (Which is the Bury Hands free)
I can select the iPod dock and teh audio plays fine, however, how to I force the iPhone to always use the iPod dock and not the Bury hands free.
From what I can tell, its not the Bury which is forcing teh choice - its the iPhone, but I cannot see anywhere where there is an option to choice the iPod dock as the default audio device.
Any one have any ideas?
Thanks
GlennFound a quite probable fix.
I've took my dock station under big lens and noticed a stuck contact -- they are supposed to be somewhat movable. So I pick a real small screwdriver and unstuck the contact.
Issue is apparently gone.

Select audio output manually?
Hi
is there any solution to select the audio output manually?
My problem is, it works only without plugged in 3,5mm Analogue output. I can select the hdmi, or internl speaker
But right after I put the 3,5mm output to my MacMini, all the choices deselected, and only the line out is active.
I would keep the line out plugged in (through my PA), and keep the HDMI cable as well.
Then I would like to chose between the outputs manually
Regards
PeterNo.
You can not switch back and forth when something is plugged into the Audio Output (headphone) port, because there is a micro switch built into the port that only allows the software to output thru the Audio Output (headphone) port.

Cannot select audio output in Yosemite for sound effects
iMac mid 2011 with thunderbolt display connected. After installing Yosemite 10.10 the sound effects such as sending a new e-mail or text message now come out of the thunderbolt display exclusively, and refuse to come out of my iMac internal speakers. Sound for iTunes, quicktime, web content etc is coming out of the proper iMac speakers, just not the sound effects. I used option-click on the audio icon to select "internal speakers" which moves around my iTunes sound nicely back and forth from my internal speakers to the display audio, but no matter what I select the sound effects still only come out of the thunderbolt display.
Oh. Found it. System Preferences / Sound / Sound Effects tab at the top. I had only tried changing the "output" settings, thinking all output was controlled with that setting. I changed the Sound Effects to use the "Selected sound output device" and now it works.

I can't select "audio output stereo" on a track in the arrange window
When I create a new song, in the Arrange window I can
choose "audio output stereo" for a given track, and
access the mixer's output from there. Fab.
When I open a song that I oringally created using Logic 5,
"audio output stereo" does not appear.
Is this something about the file format?
(a) is there something simple to do to enable that for
older songs, or (b) is there a way to convert older song files to LE7?
thanks,
fred, san rafael.
[email protected]Sorry, je suis un idiot.
FYI. I went into the Environment window and found "Output 1-2"
to be un-checked. Checking it now makes "audio output stero" an available option in that song.
Thanks for listening.

Is there software that lets you select audio output options per application
Hi all,
It would be really cool if on my MacBook I could run iTunes over my external speakers and system notification sounds over my internal speakers (incl. Skype ringing etc.)
Do you know if there's any software like that available?
Thanks. Thanks both of you. Guess I'm just looking for a simple as **** way of just going into a menu and saying
-> I want this kind of sound to come from my external speakers
-> And hits sound to come from my built-in speakers
Preferably also make that work with profiles, so I've got one profile for Headphones & one for External Speakers...
But I might be picky right now... -
How to set correct audio output while using external screen for presentation purposes over a wire
while trying to make a presentation or simply playing a video from my MacBookAir over thunderbolt/HDMI table to large screen I am experiencing problems with audio only being played from the MBA and not the soundsystem built in to that screen (unless using a VLS application and manually selecting the audio output target).
Please help in finding how to steer audio output device using 2in1 cable such as thunderbolt?Hi jar9,
If you are not hearing audio over your HDMI/Thunderbolt connection, you may want to see if it is showing up as a selectable audio output as outlined in the following article:
OS X Mavericks: If you can’t hear sound from your speakers

Audio Output Selection in 3rd Party Media Apps
In all 3rd party media apps that I have, including Netflix and Pandora, among others, I do not have that box/arrow button that allows me to choose which audio output to use.
I normally have my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3) connected to a pico projector, and paired with a set of bluetooth headphones.
Depending on the order I plug the projector in, or pair the headphones, I can get the audio to play through the right channel, but it is very finicky. If there are any interruptions (call, text, ect) or if Ieave the app, and come back, it defaults to the serial connection, and tries to play the audio through the project.
Is the lack of the audio channel selection button on the iOS side or the app side?
Thanks! You should be able to reset the default app in application settings, then it'll ask again, but I don't remember how >_>

Output Module - Video for Windows - trouble selecting Audio Format
Good day, people.
Need help setting up AE to output .AVI with customized audio format, in my case it should be .mp3, but I would accept anything but the default uncompressed audio. (audio Output Format button is disabled when Video for Windows is selected)
Of course I can output as-is and use external tools to repack audio data, but it seems awkward. If AE can output MP3-only audio, why wouldn't it output AVI with MP3. Probably I just don't know the right set of options, but I googled to find the answer for over a month with no success.
Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.noonesshadow wrote:

Because it's a hack?! Even Microsoft does not officially support or endorse such combinations, it just has become common place when DivX and others introduced it, which is a whole different matter. If you get my meaning: On one end there are specs and standards, on the other end programmers that tend to get creative in the wrong ways. Anyway, the behavior you are seeing is correct. AE only supports uncompressed audio for AVI.

I just bought macbook pro 2,66. and under audio options I can't select my external speakers that I connect. I just have internal sepakers option to select and no other no matter what i connect to 3,5mm jack. What to do? Now I can only listen music to internal sepakers. Pelase help I tryed everything.
No, I am not running any firewall, VPN or Internet monitoring software. Yes, I can see the Airport Express using the Airport Admin Utility. I can open the AE settings and all appears to operate as described in the documentation. I have even tried to reset and re-configure the AE, but the results have not changed.
The only observation I have of operation contrary to the documentation is when selecting the "speakers" button" at the bottom right of the iTunes window. The button changes to indicate selection of the stereo and speakers connected to the AE, however there is no audio output from the AE. I also connected iPod headphones to the AE line out port- same result, no audio.

Select HDMI audio output when headphone connectted
In Snow Leopard, I can connect my headphone to Mac Mini, and select HDMI audio output when I want sound from monitor, or select headphone.
But in Lion, I can not select HDMI when headphone is connectted, so I have to plug/unplug headphone very often, quite anoyying...
How can I disable this feature?
Thanks.I've just started a thread regarding this exact issue, but in Mountain Lion. Did you ever solve it? Or, if you have upgraded to Mountain Lion, do you still experience it?
EDIT: Almost exactly 1 year later you get a response. lol. -
Can you select or disable AppleTV's audio output?
I have my AppleTV connected to the television via HDMI and also connected to an amplifier via optical audio. I would like to disable the HDMI audio output as to not have the sound play through the television, but it does not appear to be configurable in the AppleTV menu. Is this possible?
Well I'm running update v.4.2.2 I don't have a solid internet connection to update the blasted thing. I have my optical audio plugged in and I'm getting signal lights through the cable but when its plugged into my reciever no sound comes out of my reciever, only the HDMI connection into the TV. I would like to fix it without haveing to jailbreak it and put xbmc on it.

Asrock ION330/Nvidia HDMI - No audio output
Machine was running archlinux and not been upgraded in over 6mths but HDMI audio worked fine. Decided to do a scratch build since all the changes in that time and have a nice clean system.
If it helps, this is what I install. Ssed this exact same install process for another Asrock ION330 and Acer Revo3610 (both same hardware) but neither use HDMI at all. Both VGA with either optical or analog audio. Both work with no additional config.
pacman -Sy nfs-utils screen ntp alsa-utils mlocate xorg-server xorg-xinit xorg-server-utils mesa nvidia ttf-dejavu xfce4 gamin slim mythtv unrar lirc xbmc wget
Get no sound output but also zero errors on any of the following commands. I should add that the receiver does not detect any audio coming in, ie it usually identifies how many channels of audio and type it is receiving.

audio output will not work on external speakers. Internal speakers will work. What do i do to replace audio output slot
Right click your volume icon in the notification area and select "volume control options". From there, you should be able to select the external speakers.
I hope that helps!
Best of luck,
Kyle
