Cabinet Info

Hi, the green fibre optic cabinet has been put next to my old one, the question i wanted to ask is how long does it take for the hardware to be put inside? or is it already in there?
I know that there isn't an exact timing on these things, just wondering if there was an estimated roughly.

I've given up with all the various checkers, they all contradict each other.
FTTC cabinet went in at the end of Oct. last year, job was completed in Jan. this year, but still not in use.
Wholesale number checker WAS saying due March as was the 'When & Where' exchange page.
BT Broadband number checker had the standard broadband now & infinity 'coming soon' message.
As of last week things changed, A LOT!
Exchange page still says EAGRA is due live this month, but number checker now says FTTC by next December!!
On checking infinity availability on the BT Broadband site all mention of infinity has completely gone.
Now just get the 'no infinity' message & register interest box.
This seems to have happened 'en mass' to all numbers on the GRAYS exchange.
Several friends (all supplied by different cabinets) saw the same thing happen last week, so its not just a problem with my cabinet.
A Complete shambles!
Exchange:EAGRA

    resolved.

  • Fibre Optic rollout/availability

    Hi there,
I have a few questions about the fibre optic rollout in my area, and the local authority on the matter (ConnectingCheshire) has been useless is helping me so far.
The Alderley Edge exchange was upgraded to Fibre Optic a few months ago during "Phase 1 deployment" and looking at the rollout plan found here (http://www.connectingcheshire.org.uk/media/797285/Cheshire-East-map.pdf) my area should be following soon after. We are in the slightly darker orange area south of Alderley Edge and north of Monks Heath Crossroads.
So, Cabinet 1 which we are connected to appears to be fibre enabled but we can't get it yet - I guess the cables haven't been laid but "Phase 2 deployment" should have started by now and we have not heard anything while the map says we should be connected between Phase 1 and 2. Do you guys at Bt know what's going on? Are there construction problems or are we just being left in the dust to twiddle our thumbs with our measly 1mb/s broadband?
I hope you can help explain what is going on.
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I can confirm that PCP1 on the Alderley Edge exchange has linked and installed with a FTTC DSLAM cabinet and is accepting order for FTTC.
The FTTC DSLAM cabinet for PCP1 (Alderley Edge exch.) is located adjacent to Yew Tree Cottage, Artists Lane, NETHER ALDERLEY, MACCLESFIELD, SK10 4UA
@Greenlandys, do you know how far away you are from the above location? As if your approx. 1.5/2Km away then you may not be able to get FTTC fibre broadband as you are just too far away from the cabinet.
Are you able to posts the results (including exchange, cabinet info and service table) from http://dslchecker.bt.com/adsl
Just remember to edit out your cabinet number before posting.
If you are too far away and that Connecting Cheshire BDUK aren't going to do more work in your area to enable you to get a fast broadband service, then unfortunately there isn't much you can do at the moment.
There is a service (though not currently enabled for your cabinet) where you can get Fibre to the Premises on Demand (FTTPoD) though it could costs you thousands.

  • Converting a laptop into a MAME cabinet: Looking for optimisation.

    Hello everyone!
I recently turned an old laptop into a MAME arcade cabinet.
So far I only have the laptop working with MAME able to play games. I will build the cabinet from scratch once I have fully optimised the laptop.
Let me explain all of this in details.
First of all, I got motivated with this video of someone making a MAME arcade cabinet out of an old computer and something that looks like an empty Neo-Geo arcade cabinet.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sd9j6nGUCvU
While the idea seems really nice, using FreeDOS (or any DOS operating system) really bothers me.
Since, in the video, DOS is used to boot really fast and have nearly nothing between MAME and the operating system, there's no reason not to use GNU/Linux to achieve the same goal.

I'm converting from a PC to  iMac. On the PC I have many Inbox folders with PR info for distribution. How do I get these folders from the PC to the iMac? I've used the Windows e mail Inbox folders for an easy access filing cabinet for years, as this all goes out on e mail. Thanks for assisting me!

I think the easiest way would be to use Migration Assistant to get all that over...

  • What does a cabinet look like?

Hey everyone this may seem like a silly question but I need to get it off my chest.
By What I understand there are 3 cabinets in my estate, 2 of which are now bt infinity enabled and the one I am on which is not. About a month ago one was done and I noticed a big BT INFINITY sign on the front, a few weeks ago another was done and the same was on that. Thinking I was next my cabinet was only painted black for some reason and looks completely different to the newer cabinets. After the 2 cabinets were done I received a letter stating I can now get bt infinity and yet the checker says no.... I'm not ever sure What a old and new cabinet looks like so any info or even better, a picture would be helpful

no depending on there age  the cabinets can look different  but they are normally Green thh older cabinets are like these in the link http://www.telephonesuk.co.uk/wiring_cabs.htm

  • Query regarding BT having incorrect info

    Hi there
Im currently a Sky broadband customer after moving properties im intrested in getting Infinity - when I had my original line activated the BT engineer confirmed that the cabinet im connected to does indeed have fibre hardware - however every checker I put my details in said no.
After having another engineer out a second time to fix a line fault I queried this with him again and he confirmed that the old block of flats that were here before used to be connected to a differnt cabinet and the new flats details havent been upgraded by BT to reflect this. I have checked and found the green cabinet in question too!
How do I go about recifying this? The service im getting with Sky isnt amazing and id obviously like more speed! It will just mean ending the contract with Sky early! Erk - wonder how much that is going to cost!!
    Any help appreciated
    JC

Thanks for the info Im actually pretty au fait with the technology and its definately a fibre cabinet (sad but ive actually watched the openreach training video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53NcsctuxV0)
PMing the mods and seeing what they can do if anything anyway! Just hope the engi wasnt pulling my leg!
    Thanks JC

  • Number of properties connected to a cabinet

How can I find out the number of properties connected to a cabinet?
I've seen posts mentioning their cabinet has x properties connected to it, but can't see where you'd find out this information, short of entering all the addresses in the surrounding area into http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/ADSLChecker.address
I'm curious as Openreach have told me the cabinet I'm connected to is "Not Commercially viable" to be upgraded to FTTC, so I wanted to check out the number of properties using it compared to FTTC enabled cabinets. This should hopefully give me a clue if it's not viable due to the number of lines connected to it, or not viable for some other reason (blocked ducts / electricity supply issues etc).
I'm hoping it's the number of lines since I'm on a new build estate and they're still building / there are people yet to move in, so hopfully the number of connections should go up fairly quickly!
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/ is useless, it only tells you if your exchange had been enabled.
I put my telephone number into http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/ADSLChecker.TelephoneNumberOutput which I believe gives you an estimated date if your cabinet is scheduled to be upgraded? Mine didn't give a date, so guessed it wasn't in the current plans.
So I then emailed [email protected] and got:
"This cabinet 151 was deemed to be not commercially viable as part of the Openreach rollout programme. Where cabinets are not commercially viable Government funding is available to county and borough councils via the BDUK "
Sadly "Fastershire" seem to be connecting villages in the countryside rather than infilling in areas where BT have missed certain cabinets as they don't think they'd make any £. I'd thought in terms of cost per property upgraded Fastershire would get better value for money doing the quick wins rather than run miles of fibre, but who knows. I couldn't get any information out of them.
If i'm feeling keen i'll write some code to get the info from the address search, it's not as if you can't get the info as they make it publicly availlable, just a bit of a pain if you have to do it manually

  • FTTC Help - Cabinet / Availability Question

    Hi Guys,
I'm not sure if anyone will be able to assist with this as everyone I have spoken to at BT seem to be stumped, however, I am due to speak to someone "technical" tomorrow to see if they have any ideas. Saying this, my current responses don't seem to be getting me anywhere as no one seems to have a clue!
So I thought I would turn to here as I can see several technical questions, but not seem to be the same as below.
I ordered Infinity based on the postcode to where I was moving on the 7th January, as of the 24th January they enabled the phoneline, this was fine, then suddenly didn't seem to work or be possible for any sort of broadband capability. This went on for about a week and then again it was "fine", I was then rang last week (4 weeks after placing my order) and told that BT cannot provide Infinity due to the line not being enabled to do so. This was due to their computer telling them I can't have it, no other reason, as you can imagine, this isn't really what I signed up for and was somewhat annoyed by this "customer service". I have done my own research which i've placed below and no one can say to why the below won't allow me to have the fibre service. Saying that, I've not spoken to anyone techincal yet as I only seem to be able to speak to sales teams / "the offline team".
My postcode is LS28 6PN. The area is enabled for FTTC, including the cabinet that I am connected to (Cabinet 7 - Pudsey). The cabinet is outside the address where I live, I can see it whilst I type this email.
The phone number that I have been given also connects to Cabinet 7, Pudsey, however, does not allow me to obtain FTTC.
Upon moving in, I did many checks including that one properties around the area within 50 meters of where I live, all of which can get Fibre by checking on the BT Wholesale site. (Some are small shops and have phone numbers which state they too connect to Cabinet 7, but are able to get FTTC.
Below is the checks I can do using the post code and exact house number:
Below is using the phone number I have been given last week by BT:
Below is using a phone number of the property opposite my house, the cabinet (7) is on my side of the road, closer to me than it is to them:
I've done this on a few properties around where I live and they are all showing the same information, just where we are they won't allow it via the phone number I have been allocated.
Upon speaking to my friend, who was an Openreach engineer he suggested I ask that the routing information is checked. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
As mentioned all of the information given states I should be able to receive the fibre service, the below states 100% and I am about 900 metres from the exchange upon checks. The only thing that doesn't seem to work is the phone number I have given by BT upon signing up for the service over 5 weeks ago.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you guys can provide, I'm not sure if anyone will have any ideas but if you do please let me know as I don't seem to be getting anywhere with BT.
Apologies for anything I may have missed as this is my first post... Please let me know if you think you can help and if you need any further information from me.
    Cheers,
    Ben

  • Fibre and infinity available from my cabinet for n...

Hi, first post as really not sure what to do, and feeling pretty desperate about this fibre/infinity issue.....
Bought new house a week ago. The regular ADSL broadband in my new area is and virtually useless at less than 1Mb, all searches I did with service providers (BT, Plusnet, Talk Talk, Sky and EE) all said, (when entering my address details) that Fibre broadband is not available at my address.
My first call to BT had them tell me, they weren't sure fibre was installed in my cabinet, Plusnet the same, but neighbours say it is as they get it in my street.
BT retail advised me all the cabinets are run and administered by Openreach the subsidiary of BT (who will not talk to retail customers - they will only talk to services providers like BT retail etc). EE did go further and told me my cabinet was number 10 and they forwarded me to the BT wholesale site (btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html) which on entering my address says on Exchange ETWALL is served by Cabinet 10....and.... FTTC is currently not available on this cabinet due to following reasons:- Sorry your cabinet is temporarily unavailable, capacity will be restored as soon as possible.
From reading other Fibre related forums on here, I realised myself that Fibre connections per cabinet are limited, and a bit like when a car park is full, you cant get in until someone else comes out, unless they expand the number of connections available. So I ws a little upset that 2 calls to BT resulted in them telling me, it wasnt on in my cabinet which is seemigly incorrect. It ended with BT retail saying its fault of Openreach and there's nothing we can do. I can only assume the BT advisor was making assumptions.
I deduced myself, from the fact neighbours in my street have it, it probably is available in theory but as the regular broadband is unusable, everyone has fibre, the number of connections is probably full and nobody else whose lines are connected to cabinet 10 in my area can get it any longer.
My professional life relies on a semi reasonable connection, and my wife who is from abroad completely relies on it for her online business nd to communicate to family. So I was checking the ADSL checker literally 10 times a day from Thursday, and on Saturday night about 11pm, Eureka it suddenly said up to 76mb Fibre is available at my property and now every retail service provider (whose sites first action it seems, when you try and book fibre, is always to scan and check that its available from Openreach) they all now allowed me to go ahead and order it. I made a booking for a new line and Fibre, booked installation date of Wed 29th Oct, and then lo and behold, this morning I get a message to say, Fibre is again unavailable at my address (served by cabinet 10) I checked the BT wholesale site and all the other service providers and yes its back as it was before, saying fibre is not available. It definitely was available Saturday night at 11pm and showing available on Sunday afternoon at 2pm, but before my appointment could be confirmed, it seems Openreach have shut the door again and cancelled my order. To say i'm crestfallen is an understatement. All the service providers advertised the service as available and after I booked almost 24 hours later it still was, another 12 hours later its not and I'm cancelled and without any connection or any news as to when or even if one may become available. Right now I'd pay literally anything for Fibre.
Today Ive made numerous calls to BT retail and its the same story, they say Openreach wont tell them reasons or specifics about a cabinet and there's "nothing we can do" and even when i finally got through to BT wholesale this afternoon and begged them to at least just confirm its because of over capacity at cabinet 10, they refused to talk to me and said I must contact service provider.
I'm truly at my wits end, my wife today is saying she cant move in as there is no guarantee we can ever get connected, her business interests will be ruined and she will be cut off from relatives in Russia. This evening I pleaded with BT if there is over capacity is there a waiting list or anything at all I can do to be considered or to get any idea, if someone else leaves i can get a place in a queue if a slot becomes available, they said again "there's nothing we can do, its openreach and they wont tell us why".
Even 3G is pretty rubbish, and certainly wont run streaming TV. It seems I'm trapped all around those who are able to be a part of the 21st century, and even when availability is shown to me, its soon taken away. The worse part is having no cllear idea of when if ever I may be considered to get Fibre. Ive reluctantly cancelled my current phone with BT as its pointless transferring it with no useable BT interent services. i'm ready to spend whatever every month, if there is ever any room at the Inn.
Is this normal protocol, does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do, I'm desperate.
    thanks for reading

  • Cable TV cabinets

Just been watching the BBC 1 programme "Call the midwife" with the wife, how amazing that the green cable TV cabinets have been around since the 1950s, a very good shot of one of the stars of the show cycling past it.
Ive been banned from watching it now as I also spotted a 1980s BT Block Terminal on the wall when someone left the building, apparently " I am spoliing it for her"
    Result there then

  • BT Cabinet Checker

When will BT make public its plans for Cabinet Upgrades for infinity. Only showing availablilty by exchange is completely useless.
BT must have target dates for each cabinet, i cant believe they just pick a cabinet out of a hat each week and say ok lads lets go do that one next - so why not publish the information.
I would rather know that my cabinet (cabinet 11 on exchange WNHW) is never go in to be done rather than "its not yet ready" as that doesnt tell you if it will be ready next week, next month next year?
Come on BT Stop being so secretive and share the information you must already have!

    Hi SlowConnectionUser,
The Superfast-Cymru Fibre Broadband Scheme is being rolled out, done and managed by the Welsh Government in partnership withOpenreach so BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP whom operates this forum) does not have much say as to when and if you will be able to get fibre broadband (FTTC or FTTP or equivalent) as that is up-to Openreach and the Welsh Government.
The Superfast-Cymru BDUK scheme is to boost the existing commercial roll-out to deliver fast fibre broadband to 96% of homes and businesses in Wales by 2016.
Have a look at http://www.superfast-cymru.com/faqs for more information
Your exchange (Holywell in Flintshire) has actually already been FTTC & FTTP fibre broadband upgraded under the Superfast-Cymru DBUK scheme which is funded by the EU, and the Welsh Governemt in partnership with Openreach.
BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP whom operates this forum) does not have much say as to when and if you will be able to get fibre broadband (FTTC or FTTP or equivalent) as that is up-to Openreach and the Welsh Government.
If you would like to see if there is any information on IF and When your PCP will be upgraded with a FTTC Dslam cabinet or whether your address/property has FTTP available to it, then you will need to email Superfast-cymru via [email protected] with your landline number, Full Address, Postcode, and Exchange. It may take a week or so to get a reply.

  • Lenght of line to cabinet

Hi can anyone post If there infinity line is greater than 1.2 miles to the cabinet or if an engineer has installed infinity more than 1.2 miles from the cabinet to the home and it has been a sucess and what sort of speeds are achived
    cheers dave

We are 2.25km just over 1.2miles from the nearest infinity enabled cabinet. BT say we can't get infinity on their checker even though we have got in 17Mbps download 512Kbps upload. It took a lot of phone calls and three letters to our MP. We eventually had a call from Openreach network manager who said we can definitely get infinity but BT are not updating the info given to them. You need to get through to BT and try and get them to put you through to BT options and they put the order in manually. If you go onto talktalk website and put in your details they have updated the details and it will show up your speed you can expect.
