Cabinet no longer to be FTTC enabled?

Since our exchange was fibre enabled many months ago, I have regularly been checking this site (http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome) for a date as to when our cabinet would be upgraded. As for many others the due date would arrive only for it to be rescheduled to some future point in time.
Usually the site would show an availability date for both FTTC and Fibe Multicast (is this for media services?) and then on the due date these would both 'disappear' and reappeaer a day or two later with the some new date against them (the same for both items)
However, the last date (9th April) has now come and gone over 10 days ago and the site now shows the following:
FTTC is no longer shown as being available at any point although Fibre Multicast is supposedly available.
Anyone know what this implies? Is my cabinet no lionger going to be FTTC enabled?

Most likely.
Back in 2010 when my exchange was one of the first to go up my cabinet was meant to go up and I was meant to achieve the full 40/10
Dates were pulled and i was told by [email protected] that my cabinet didn't meet the commercial criteria and wouldn't generate enough money for them to make a return on investment.
Of course your cabinet could of been rejected for any of the following reasons:
- Blocked underground cable routes
- Problems with providing electrical power to a cabinet
- Issues with a cabinet’s location
- Occasionally a cabinet may be removed from the roll-out programme due to restrictions beyond our control
Your best bet is to give them a shout and see what they've hit you and your cabinet with. Openreach seem to be more open arms now in term of what's actually happening to your cabinet.
Best of luck
EDIT: Also I'd like to add that your cabinet may have been put up for funding by other authorities like BDUK, Connecting Devon and North Somerset. < Funding projects like that (Whatever would be applicable for your area) These fundings were recently approved around Jan, Feb I think. So I imagine the plans would start to take action later this year up till early or late next year.
DOUBLE EDIT: It's also entirely possible they just pulled the dates from the checker to stop people from moaning about due dates being pushed back to every next quarter.
Like I said I would email Openreach and see what they give you. It might take a few back and forth emails but you're certain to get the story from them. Also if they give you the "You need to email your ISP" be ready to challenge them about it because in reality they are the keymakers so to speak. They hold all the plans and the problems.

  • Connected to an FTTC enabled cabinet but unable to...

My serving cabinet has recently been upgraded and is now FTTC enabled but I am still unable to recieve infinity even though a different property served by the same cabinet is.
I called BT to ask if they could clarify if this was because I am too far away from the cabinet but the person I spoke to said to that my phone number is showing as no fibre available which means the cabinet I'm connected to can't have been upgraded. They couldn't explain why a different phone number connected to the same cabinet was able to receive fibre and said that distance from the cabinet is irrelevant; the test on my number would still come back as positive even if my cabinet was 100 miles away.
Now I'm fairly confident that is untrue but they weren't having any of it.
I was wondering if there is a way to confirm for sure that I'm too far away from the cabinet and will therefore never be able to get fibre?
    Thanks in advance.

So this is the reult for my line. Shows I am connected to cabinet 1 (on the BATHEASTON exchange):
and this is the result on a different line connected to the same cabinet on the BATHEASTON exchange:
I am fully assuming that the reason behind it is that I am too far away from the cabinet but just want a definite answer and any possible alternative or hope for the future! I've contacted Openreach on the form posted above, just waiting for a reply.

  • FTTC enabled but not commercially viable?

What does it mean when BT say that a cabinet I am connected to is already FTTC enabled but is not commercially viable?
    Thanks

I have an email from openreach when I asked why all my street can order Infinity and I can't (same exchange and cabinet).  I was told the following: "
Thank you for your email. Apologises for the delay. Regarding the delay for STAINTON exchange cabinet 42.
I have gone through the escalation chain email as well however, apologies to say that though the cabinet in customer’s area is FTTC enabled still it is not commercially not viable. Once it will meet the criteria we will able to provide the FTTC line. we can then send the email chain to chase.
I have no idea what this means!!!???  When I call BT I am simply told "it is not available in your area"....when actually it is...just not for my number/house.
Can anyone translate the openreach email into simple layman terms please?

  • Bt inifity no, although line is in a FTTC enabled ...

    Hi all,
recently joined BT again, having defected for a short time.
i am looking into the prospect of getting infinity service. currently the availability checker is only showing adsl being available to my house.
using varous tools online and bt wholesale, i have found i am on cabinted 31 in my area, which is FTTC enabled.
sales, have said, i won;t be able to get infinity for time being, keep checking online etc.
is this because my new line and number etc has not filtered into the wholesale system? - i have checked with numbers of people i know only 2 doors down and post code checkers for the surrounding estates beyond mine and fibre is all around.
anyone elseh had experience of this,
sorry to crash the forum and make another post, probably has been covered before, i found some answers, just find it odd.
wondered if someone more tech savvy - maybe able to give better answers.
    Cheers in advanced

  • When will my cabinet be FTTC enabled?

My exchange is now enabled and a number of cabinet's in the area have now been enabled, however according to the December PCP my cabient hasn't even been allocated a phase yet.
    TW8 9RN, Isleworth, P75
Is it possible to find out if that has changed in subsequent PCP plans?
This is mainly as I am looking to move ISPs but given my line length my current poor sync speed so I will want to move to FTTC as soon as it is availible and would prefer to not have to move twice!
So if it is at least planned in the next few months; I will probably postpone until then, it not then I might has well move twice.

Hi and welcome to the forum, unfortunately as far as i'm aware nothing additional on the PCP spreadsheet has been published as of yet, unless i've missed it.
I would keep an eye on the checker: www.bt.com/infinity this has the most recent and up to date information in regards as to what is available to you.

  • FTTP cabinet in deployment according to FTTC check...

    Hi
Having asked a question and been helped out so quickly by all, I thought I'd pose another. The FTTC checker has my postcode (NR22TJ) down as FTTP with the exchange (EANCC) listed as FTTC/P.
Has anyone else actually had FTTP installed with BT? What is the experience? Has anyone had their cabinet in the state shown below and was it like this for years or months? :-)
I've gone from dispare that I will ever get more than a couple of meg download speeds and 80k upload speeds to hope that I can start using HD iPlayer. I though Norwich would always be the **bleep** end of nowhere, especially when it came to telecoms.
    The FTTC checker says:
    P109
    90%
    4.95
    7a
    Part of deployment
    FTTP (Fiber to the Premises)
So what is the uplift number? If this were FTTP would it not be an irrelevant number as doesn't FTTP give you a pretty much fixed speed as bought/advertised?
As you can tell, I am gagging to get some proper IP connnectivity to my home!
    Thanks all
    R

Well spotted - I hadn't used the postcode only checker - phone number and address checker. The address checker shows nothing. In a previous thread http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/BT-Infinity-amp-problems-in-postcode-checker/td-p/772000 I was asking about postcode issues as basically half of my street is 'old' and appears to be wired to one cabinet, and half is 'new' and wired to a different one.
Guess I will just have to wait and see what happens. I guess no experience of FTTP on here then? Do BT actively market the stuff when enabled?

  • Exchange finally FTTC enabled, any way to find out...

    Hi there!
I was just wondering if anyone could help me find out if/when my cabinet is due to be upgraded. I have checked on Sam knows and the BT fibre map. Both say that my exchange (crossgates) is enabled.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    My postcode is LS15 8BN
    Thanks

    Hi Demm
You can check if your cabinet is planned to be upgraded with this link here.
It should mention WBC FTTC if your cabinet is planned to be upgraded.

  • Long Trip with Location Enabled IT GOT HOT

    Hi
I just got back from vacation, I used Google Map with location enabled for the first time. I had to use the car charger as well with a low battery.
I had to use the phone and noticed it was to hot to use. I disconnected the car charger and disabled location and it cooled down within 10 minutes. Enough to use the phone.
I really don't know what to think. Was this phone not made to do what I just did on my trip............

Well if you leave maps open, then it will have to constantly being downloading data for the maps thus using data, thus using processor.
Second, charging the phone also creates heat (as charging any battery does). So combined, it just got hot.
Now the phone will alert you and turn off if it really gets too hot.
It wasn't really that you had location services on, but rather the fact you had maps open for long period thus having it keep refreshing map which requires processor to keep working and working at the same time as charging. But even though you said it was hot, it shouldn't get so hot you cannot really hold it.

  • FTTC how long after the cabinet is installed and p...

FTTC how long after the cabinet is installed and populated before orders are accepted?
My exchange was originally to be FTTC enabled March 2012 then June 2012 then September 2012 then December 2012 and now .... wait for it March 2013. The dates are starting appear somewhat arbitrary.
A couple of weeks ago the FTTC cabinet was installed and populated, however just this week the FTTC enable date was pushed back from December 2012 to March 2013. Does it really take another six months after the caninet is installed and populated to enable to sevice?
I have said with BT and not moved to the likes of Sky or Talk Talk (which would be cheaper and on the face of it offer increased speed) because my exchange was soon to be FTTC enabled.

the mods only have the same information any one else has
this link should help you more http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/
It shows your exchange as planned for March 2013

  • Having upgraded to an FTTC cabinet how do I get In...

    Guys,
here is one that has me pulling myhair out - any advice?
In June of last year, I  moved house and found that I was unable to sign up to BT Infinity as I was connected to an out of date and underground phone line that was several miles away from the exchange. Neither BT or OpenReach would re-route me and so I was stuck on a 4mb broadband service.
In January of this year, as a result of a new build in land adjacent to me I met a very helpful OpenReach engineer who placed an order on the system for me for infrastructure capable of supporting super fast broad band, he then connected me to a fiber enabled cabinet along with my new neighbours. I paid OpenReach directly for this.
My current broadband is a standard 20mb service from Sky and it has now been optimized to 17mb but what i really need is Infinity.
Having spoken to BT (my preferred option), Plusnet and Sky to verify the response, I am told by everyone that my line is only capable of delivering 15.6mb. I have been told that this is data held by BT Wholesale and that BT Wholesale reference an OpenReach system.
BT Retail have told me that they are unable to give me infinity above 15.6mb and that the issue over speed is with me as I dealt with OpenReach directly. suggesting that I will only get 15.6mb and no one will help me improve once I am signed up as I sourced the infrastructure directly. I cannot sig up with plusnt or sky as they dont recognise me as being able to consume their fiber broadband.
OpenReach tell me that the cable installed is capable of delivering 80-100m and that there are over 40 other users connected to the same cabinet who get 60 plus. I have neighbours connected to the same cabinet on the same infrastructure who are achieving 60m plus.
I had a call with OpenReach again yesterday who who have told me that it’s no longer their issue and that until I am on a fiber service there is nothing more for them to do.
I had a call with BT retail yesterday who confirmed that my line speed was only 15.6mb and that they would only gaurantee this level.
so, Openreach say that my line speed should be 60 plus and BT retail say my line speed is only 15.6mb (confirmed by Sky and Plusnet)
a few questions spring to mind,
Is there a way of actually checking line speed?
I get 17mb on speedtest.net but this isnt the issus as the speed in is only 20, so a degradation of 3mb whichis reasonable as I am only 825m fromthe exchange.
Is there a line speed database somewhere that is stuck on 15.6mb, that everyone references ?
How can I get BT retail or Openreach to help me get this sorted out - it feels to me like a computer says no issue...either that or openreach have not put in the infrastructre I asked for.
any thoughts?  Can you please help me overcome the last hurdle.
    Yours in good faith. Ian

    Hi Mark,
thanks for the answer, i am only 120m from the cabinet and this is bourne out by my Sky broadband service to to the exchange of 20, optimised to 18 at the supply end and I get 17mb - so, I guess this would line up with the very short distance to the cabinet.
this is backed up by the test results using your link:
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 17Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 10Mbps and 19.5Mbps. Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 1.5Mbps and downstream line speed of 17Mbps; typically the downstream speed would range between 10Mbps and 19.5Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 15.6Mbps and upstream line speed of 3.5Mbps.
I am FTTC enabled - but am at a loss to explain whether its openreach havent put in the right capability or its a computer says no issue.
is the above referencing the sky 20mb service? or is the test referencing actuals? if so, i dont get why others get 60 plus from the same cabinet ?
    Ian.

  • 1.8 miles (as copper would run) from FTTC cabinet ...

SuperfastBerkshire has connected me with someone in a neighboring village with similar speed issues to mine (1-3Mbps).  The difference being that he is conneced to an FTTC enabled cabinet (7 from Littlewick Green).   His post code is SL6 5NL and he is about a mile from the cabinet as the bird flies and maybe two if you follow any logical path for copper.   Yet some how there is enough copper between him and his cabinet to give him that kind of speed?
I can understand the legacy of stuff that might lead to this but doesnt Openreach have some obligation to fix the sins of the past?  Instead they are suggesting that his alternative is Fibre to the Premise or, you guessed it, try to get government funding?   Sure, if I were them, I would rather get paid for cleaning up messes in their infrastructure but should they not have some responsibility to do so on their own accountability?
    Regards,
    Wisar for a neighbor

    FTTC.
Here is another interesting data point.   A place called Black Boys Inn is right up the street from them and gets an FTTC speed of 7.7-18.5Mbps which I believe implies that they are 1.8km from the cabinet.   I measure it at closer to 1.5km but I guess there is some wasted copper somewhere.   Going from there to the center of his post code makes the distance about 2.2km from the cabinet for a possible top speed of 14.8Mbps.
Obviously that is not the route the copper is taking.   The funny thing is the size of the village of Hurley.   In order to stretch copper far enough to give him such crappy performance it would have to loop back and forth a couple of times...which I assume is what it is doing.
Which begs my original question, doesnt Openreach bear some responsiblity for fixing a rats nest of wiring as opposed to asking the customer to pay for trenching fibre to the premise or asking the government to make the investment to fix the mess?
    Wisar!

  • FTTC Cabinet Commissioning

    Hi,
Our exchange (eabru) was due to be FTTC enabled in March 2012 and surprise, surprise this was put back to July 2012.  The BTOR 'Where & When' web page now shows June 2012 as does my ISP (Not BT).  So I guess it's iminent although I appreciate there could be other factors that may prevent it from happening.
A lot of BTOR and other non BT vans were seen working on my cab a few months ago but it's gone relatively quiet since then.  Although, I now see it's been fenced off and a Morrisons utility sign put up suggesting that electrical works are currently taking place (perhaps providing power to the cab?).
My question is does anyone know if this would be the last step in commissioning a new FTTC cabinet?
    Cheers.

Essentially the last step is a BT Operate engineer running tests from the cab back over to ensure the kit works and the fibre optics are capable of sending the amount of data required.

  • When will my cabinet get fttc

I live in wembley park very near to the stadium. I get sped of about 4-5mps down and 80kbps. My exchange has fttc but my cabinet isn't compatible with fttc. On the bt website it shows that there isnt any fibre/cabe services on my road. I know were my cabinet is and I'm sure it has a number 50 on it. It looks really old so I gues the might have to install a new fibre cabinet next to it. It also isn't that close to my house as it is on the the main road (wembley hill road). I just need to know when work will be done on my cabinet.

The possibility factor is just in regards to your postcode, some postcodes have two cabinets attached to the postcode, so the possibility is the percentage of which cabinet your connected to, the higher the percentage the more likely you are connected to that cabinet, these are only estimates so take them with a pinch of salt. What does it say when you put your telephone number or house and postcode into the checker here? http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=29017&s_cid=con_FURL_...
