Cable between hub and modem

Hi I had infinity installed yesterday. The engineer installed the hub & modem in my hallway. I explained that my existing setup comprised of 3 desktop computers in the loft and two laptops. From the main bt socket in the hall a cable runs up to the first floor. The engineer said he could fit the hub and modem on the first floor which I did not want as it was in a bedroom by the door. He installed the equipment and connected a laptop using the wireless connection @ 20mb explaining that I could hardwire my desktops if I wanted a faster speed. My question is: Would it be possible to replace (extend) the red etherent cable from the hub to the modem so that I could have the hub in the loft or will I have to run 3 seperate ethernet cables from the hub in the hallway up to the loft. Any help is appraciated Thank you in advance. (sorry I posted this in the wrong form yesterday)

i also had to use a longer ethernet cable from my PC to my hub, about 10ft which i bought on the net,i can give you the web address if needed for ethernet cables.
Q. There is smoke coming out of my open reach box... so can I have a new one.
A. Sorry sir, The fault is showing at the exchange so your box should be ok.

  • Extended cable between Soundcard and X-Fi-E/A-Modul

    Hi all!
I have no more free 5 /4 Slot on my computer and so i want to put the E/A-Modul on my desk. Does anybody know, if there is a longer (extended) connector cable between the soundcard and the E/A-Box available?
(Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium - Fatalty Champion Series )
For sure, i could solder some cable between both connectors, but if there is any extension available i would like to use it...
Does anybody know the type and/or specification of the connectors itself? I could manufacture a cable if i would know the specific name/brand.
    Greets,
    Marc

Re: Extended cable between Soundcard and X-Fi-E/A-Modul_ Hi Dirk...
It seem's you are German, so i wil try to answer your question in German :-)

  • Better integration between HUB and Remember needed !

It is simple please  finalize HUB and Remeber integration in this way :
    1) add possibility to create Remeber items directly from all HUB items (like emails, SMS, calls etc.) including their headers (e.g. SMS sender number, name, time received and content) and including their attachements (from MMS, emails etc.) Via Share function.  It would be breakthrough feature for business users ! To have HUB as "inbound queue" and Remeber as follow-up "to-do" tool. In perfect seamless harmony !
    2) fix the bug in HUB searching - it fails (no matches) when you search against string containing underscore symbol (e.g. searching for BOREK against items [email protected] returns "no results" ! :-( Simply provide us with real full-text searching in HUB.
    Well. Hopefully. Good night.

    Hi Swaroop,
I need to trigger transaction when there is new entry from GE proficy. Currently I am using scheduler which will run the transaction every one hour. For connection to GE proficy, I am using SQL database. Proficy will update new entry in SQL table with status 1 and MII will execute the transaction to update entry in ECC with status 1 and make it 2.
But now this approach is taking time as there are more data with status 1. Please provide me some solution so that I can trigger transaction whenever there is new data inserted from MES.

  • Can connect over wlan, but not using ethernet cable between mac and extreme

Hi, I have a brand new Airport Extreme base station. Wireless LAN works well and both my wife's and my Mac can connect to the internet. When I connect the ethernet cable to my macbook, it does not connect to Extreme. Is this a feature or a required change in the setups?

  • HDMI CABLE BETWEEN LAPTOP AND TV WILL NOT WORK HELPPLEASE!!

I wanted to watch hockey from my laptop on the tv but i get nothing when i hook the cable. Is there something that has to be set or turned on??
I bought the computer about a year ago so it is not old.    The computer is a;       Dell  Inspiron  1525   and the TV is a;   Visio 42 inch
    Any help will make me happy,  Thank you,   Mike         {Removed per Forum Guidelines}

Majority of laptops are going to have a default setting of outputting video just to the display. You actually have to tell the laptop to display images out of the HDMI rather than it's screen. This is usually done by holding the "Function Key" down and cycling thru the video output options. The "function" or  "fn" key can be located in the lower left hand portion of your keyboard next to the "ctrl" button your video options are typically worked in with your F1 - F12 bottons at the top of your keyboard. Your "FN" key will most likely be a different color than the rest of the keyboard hold this down while searching for your video output key (once again in  you F1 - F12 keys) it will have a monitor logo that should be the same color as the "FN" key. Keep holding the "FN" key down and tap the video output key to cycle thru all the options until you find the right one.

  • Splitting POTS between FXO and modem

We are having intermittent problems connecting a modem/ cash advance machine to an ATA. As a workaround, we are thinking of splitting one of the POTS lines, connecting it to the modem and a port in the FXO card. Will this work or will it cause a problem?

    Hi Thomas,
I do think this will cause problems unless you install a "cut-off switch" along with the splitter (to turn the POTS On/Off to either device). If this was used in only one application at a time and controller by the switch you would probably be OK. If it were me I would just designate the line for the Cash Advance modem and remove it from the FXO alltogether :)
    Hope this helps!

  • Best practises for Hub and spoke Metro Etherent network

    Hi there,
It is my first MAN deployment. I will use the 6513 as the core switch and the 3550 as the edge switches to the customer.
The customer has 9 locations. The customer asked for interconnection between the 9 locations and his Data center in his HQ.
Additionally his Internet connection is at the HQ too.
What is the best practice to architect this solution addressing security? How I deploy VLANs (like one vlan for the internet, one vlan for each department, one management vlan. Etc)
    Any advises

    Hi Sam,
Let me add my two cents here, when speaking about MAN deployments the name of the game is MPLS, so I guess you are using the same on your Cat 6500s and connecting your customers on 3550s using Vlans.
    Regarding your questions:
    a) Upgrading Ethernet to L3 for traffic shaping: This is basically done at 3550, so I suppose that's what you intend to do, plus you will be letting Spokes talk to only Hub site, so inter Vlan, atleast between Hub and each spoke will be required, hence inter valn routing. Other way is to configure P2P circuits between Hub site with Vlan mapping (per spoke) and Spoke sites with Port mapping, in this scenario Inter Vlan routing is not a necessity.
    b) Security: This depends on what exact architecure you have deployed, in my case I have simply installed a Gateway router with BGP peering with PEs, a separate VRF alongwith redistribution does the trick.
Hope I addresses the query correctly, let me know if that helped..

  • Is there an easy way to switch mini dvi between monitor and tv?

I would like to be able to connect my mini's dvi output to a either a monitor or my tv. I am not trying to get a display on both simultaneously. With a DVI to DVI cable between mini and monitor and a dvi to hdmi cable between mini and tv I think that I can swap dvi connections at the mini, but that looks like a pain. Is there an easier way to do this?
I am about to order the dvi to hdmi cable. Is the mac mini's dvi port hot plugable or do I need to put the mini to sleep or shut down? Thanks,
    Owen

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Without some extra hardware, you can't. The mini, like all Macs, looks for data from the display to determine what settings it makes available to the user, so with two displays connected and feeding their available configurations, the mini will get very confused! Even if the two displays have one or more common settings that will actually work, each time the mini boots or wakes and detects the display, one or other (or both) are likely to go blank.
There are adaptors you might consider, such as those from Gefen, but they are not inexpensive. Have a look at http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproductlisting.jsp?listingCategory=Switchers&productTy pe=dvi for a list of available switching options, though beware that for the most part, the need being met is for TWO sources and ONE display, not your ONE source and TWO displays.

  • The best solution? Hub-and-spoke, Peer-to-peer, Multi-cast?

By the best solution, I mean in terms of price and quality (latency, minimum lag, etc)
    App type: Video conferencing
Platforms: PC, Mobile (Android, iOS) [If mobile support would reduce performance or increase costs, I am willing to scrap it]
Users: There will be 5 - 30 users logged into the service in the same room at a time. And a maximum of  5 - 7 users in that room will have their webcam's on at any given time.
My main concern is performance, Since I might make it a paid service in the future, I don't think users would pay for something that has a lot of lag or trailing effects.
So I was hoping to get some advice on how I should set it up and pros and cons in respect to LCCS

Most of what I have read indicates extender should have same name as main network? How is it best to configure with the Airport Extreme router 802.11ac?

Different names for the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks are optional, but can be convenient for you to distinguish one from another. It's up to you.

  • Is there an easy way to switch between ehternet and wifi connection without having to disconnect the ethernet cable?

    Hi All
Was wondering if there is an easy way to switch between ethernet and wifi connection on Apple TV without having to disconnect the ethernet cable. The reason I ask is that I find it quicker to use my ethernet connection via a Netgear Powerline Home Theatre Set-up to stream Trailers and Movies on the Apple TV, however this is no good when connecting directly to my Mac to stream music or TV shows in iTunes, so revert to the wifi connection that I created on my Time Capsule to do this.
Would be handy if Apple TV had a menu option where you could manually change the connection type depending on what you were doing, as per above scenario.
    Cheers

  • I can't get a reliable wifi signal between my Airport Express in the office and Express in the house and i can't get a cable between the two. Any suggestions for getting internet connection in both buildings?

I need to get internet to both the house and my office, which is in a separate building approx 20m from the house.  I was advised by Apple to buy an Airport Express, set it up on one or other building, and connect wirelessly to the other.  Tried that, but couldn't get a reliable signal.
I was then advised to buy another Airport Express and use it as an expander in the other building.  Trouble is, i can't get a reliable wireless signal between the two Expresses, so it keeps dropping the connection, and is slow when it is connected.
I rang Apple again and was told that i could try a third Airport Express between the two existing ones, but that is impossible as there is only outdoors between the two.
It would be very difficult and expensive to get an ethernet cable between the two buildings (have to cut through concrete etc), and I see from the discussion forums that an Airport Extreme has the same wireless signal as an Express, so replacing one of the Expresses with an Extreme seems unlikely to resolve the problem.  Can anyone think of any other options?

The  Powerline adapters mentioned by edex67 are your only hope if you cannot run an Ethernet cable.
Even if the home and office are on the same electrical circuit, you won't really know how well the Powerline adapters might work until you actually try them out at your location.
For that reason, it would be a good idea to understand the store's return policy before you buy.

  • The cable between the logic board and the 3G board  was removed can I convert it to a Wifi only?

I have a Ipad 2 3g. someone detached the cable between the logic board and the 3G board can I convert it to a Wifi only?

The ipads that have 3g have an extra section attached to the logic board by a glued on wire. I bought this at a tag sale. Someone was apparently trying to repair their iPad and they did not know that when you removed that glued strip attaching the 3g antenna to the logic board you would never be able to re-atach it again later. So basicaly my 3g logic board is now in two pieces. the main logic board with wifi and the cdma 3g antenna. Now their is no differnce between the logic boards in either wifi only or wifi and 3g devices. I attempted to restore the device with the ios for wifi only, because there are 3 different ios versions depending on if you have wifi only wifi 3g with SIM card, or wifi 3g cdma.
