Cable Box Keeps Resetting

Hello, This seems to be a common issue and I was looking for some input.  We currently have two boxes.  One is a HD/DVR and the other is just HD and it is the former box that is acting up.  It started out once or twice per day and now it is very frequent.  Thinking that the box might be dusty, I sprayed it to remove the dust.  That seemed to make things worse.  The other box does not do this at all.  My next option is to swap the boxes and see what happens.  My question is has anybody resolved this issue?  I have read many threads and I do not see anybody posting a fixed problem. Thanks!

I live in Huntsville, AL. I started having a problem with my Motorola DVR box about a week or two ago. I think maybe two weeks ago my wife said the box shut down for a minute or so and reset itself. A recording being made at the time was split into two parts by the DVR. For the next two weeks I saw this problem myself only about two times. BTW, this first happened while my wife was watching Y&R so she wasn't very happy about the problem.
The problem got worse a few days ago. Every time I started to play a recorded program the box crashed with all 8's in the display. The box stut off after this. When I was able to turn on the box again the program guide information had been lost. The DVR function took several minutes to come back. It probably took a day or more for the program guide information to be restored to its usual 13 days in advance information. This has happened randomly for numerous recording over the last few days. As a temporary measure I found that if I hit the fast forward for a second after I started playback the DVR did not crash  when the playback started again at normal speed. At least I was able to watch that rest of the recording without it crashing.
I unplugged my box tonight, waited a minute, and then plugged it back in. Since the box did not crash after that I hope that fixed the problem. I will have to wait and see if the problem comes back or not.
Since there may have been a firmare update to my box within the last two weeks that was probably what caused the problems. Note Comcast says I have a Motorola DCX3400. However the label on my box says Motorola DCX3501. According to what I have read the DCX3501 is newer and more energy efficient than the DCX3400 but is firmware compatible with it.

  • Cable Box Keeps resetting only when computer is on.

My cable box keeps resetting when ever the computer is on. I get an LDR code on the box, resets, I have to press menu to get the cable back on and then the reset screen loads. It will continue to reset every 10 minutes or less until the computer is shut off. I can have other devices connected to the internet but it seems this is the only device that causes a problem. I have verizon fios. I have had a new box come to the house already and hooked it up, same problem occurs.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    thanks.

I have never experienced that, with as many as 4 computers and a cellphone active on my FiOS network with three STBs also all active.
I wonder if perhaps you have that computer set to acquire a static IP Address from the FiOS router with an address of 192.168.1.1xx and that conflicts with the IP address used by the STB? The FiOS STBs by default acquire IP addresses starting at 192.168.1.100 and going up from there, depending on how many STBs you have, and computers, cellphones, etc. by default get their addresses via DHCP starting at 192.168.1.1. You can log into the router and see the various devices it sees with their IP addresses, and look in your system to see what IP address it has.
Sorry, but that is the only thing I can think of.

  • Cable boxes keep freezing up when surfing

Cable boxes keep freezing up when surfing, have to unplug to reset, delay in response to entries cause wrong entires i.e. enterin 212 but the two does not show so you press it again and again next thing you know you have 222212 instead of 212. COMCAST does not provide an email address for its customers to file complaints because they do not want to get them...Had to try multiple account names before I found one that was not taken...

If you look around the forum, you will find a email address to send to.  Also on the forum, you can post your issue and someone from Comcast will followup, you can do a online chat if you don't want to call.
Pretty much if you email, they will just call you back anyway so they can confirm your identity, since it's easy to spoof someone's identify to get into your Comcast account and make changes.  Identify theft runs rampant these days using email.
The Comcast team has been notified and will followup, expect a response here by tomorrow.

  • LG TV powers down...cable box shuts off

I just bought an LG Model 42LD520 yesterday. All set up was fine, however, when I shut the TV off, it powers down the cable box and resets it, so essentially, I would need to keep my TV on all the time in order to use the DVR, guide etc.
The TV and box are connected with an HDMI cable. The user manual is useless for this issue.
Am I missing something? This seems like a strange thing.
    Thanks.

Do you have it on a surge protector? Many of the newer ones have a master plug and when it is off they all turn off.

  • Box needs reset occasionally because of hdmi cable?

Hello, Our box needs reset occasionally after trying to watch something on dvr or on demand.  Sometimes it will be a couple times a week, others times it will be several weeks in between.  I called fios support and they told me that it was because we use an hdmi cable instead of a component cable to connect the box to our receiver.
Do the set top boxes really not fully support hdmi?  And if not, why do they even have an Hdmi out and why did the Verizon installer connect it with a hdmi cable?
Could it be anything else?  Unfortunately, using a component cable really isn't an option with our receiver.  And resetting is a pain to do on a semi regular basis.

there's a possiblity that your problem is related to a video setting in the set top box.
give it a shot and let us know if it works,
go to menu > settings > video settings > SDOVERRIDE = make sure the checkmark is next to 'OFF'
    and then try it again.

I have the issue that the router (Wrt330N Version 1) keeps resetting my Modem connection. I have turned off the wireless portion of the router and it doesn't happen as often. I have tried to get my money back no luck, I have reinstalled the eprom update that tech support told me to do and still resetting. 10 times allready today that it has reset. Anybody have any suggestions other than throwing it away and buying something else! I have had several Linksys routers in the past and all have been great except this one.  Yes I have the lastest eprom.

Connect your computer straight to the modem and check for a stable connection...If you have a stable connection then download the firmware from here
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device: -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...
Then, unplug the power cable while holding down the reset button for another 30 Seconds...
Plug the power cable back in, and keep holding down the reset button for another 30 Seconds...

  • I'd like to connect my new iMac (2013) to my cable box to watch tv in my kitchen how do I do it?

I am interested in using the iMac we keep in the kitchen as a tv. Can I connect it to my cable box and use it that way? The iMac is new. I purchased it about 6 months ago. It's the smaller of the two sizes.

Not really. The only way is to have a system to Stream the TV images to the computer. To do what you want, Cable box to computer, you would have to use the computer as just a screen (TV) and although there is a way to use the iMac as a screen for another computer, Target Screen Mode, that won't work for connecting a cable box to it.

  • 42SL417 Connection or Compatibility Issue with Explorer Cable Box 8642HDC

I have the TV listed above and recently switched to Brighthouse cable.  Intermittently my TV loses the connection to the cable box and the input information (1080i, 720p, etc) comes up across the top of the TV and the picture resets.  I had the cable guy out and he said that there was a compatibility issue between the TV and the cable box.  I didn't get all the information since he talked to my wife, I was at work.  I don't believe that this is the issue, but wanted to check to see if this was a known problem or if anyone has had a similar experience.  My firmware is 2.2.2, which I believe is the most current.  Any thoughts or ideas?  The best I could get from my wife was that the box was trying to communicate with the TV to maximize resolution and the delay creates the connection problem.  Before I call the cable company back, I wanted to get some opinions.  My thought is that there is a signal problem since the internet had connectivity problems as well.  He changed the cable on the internet connection and said that would fix that, but I can't believe they aren't related.

That is indeed the latest firmware.
You may want to perform a factory reset, as described on page 44 of your user's guide. After the reset, ensure your TV is off and unplug it for a few minutes. All your settings will be reset, so you will have to set up the TV again.
You might also want to try disabling CEC (page 39) or auto aspect ratio feature (page 47).
I don't know for sure that any of this will help, but these are your best bets. Unfortunately, if none of this helps, I'm out of ideas.

  • HT4366 We do not have a port to the TV. Is there a way to pug it into the cable box? The cable box has a Hdmi port

We just purchased the Apple TV 2 and our TV doesn't have Hdmi port, but out cable box does. Can we hook it up to the cable box?
Is so, how we keep trying and nothing is happening

You can't connect the Apple TV to the cable box either using HDMI or something else. The Apple TV is for use with HDMI only, although some users have found workarounds which may or may not work for you.
    DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
    Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)
    DAC
DAC (Example Only - Not a recommendation or suggestion that this is suitable in your circumstances)

  • Splitting for Cable Box and Router

Okay so heres the situation. Right now in my room there is only one cable connection in my wall. That was used to connect my small TV box (not the huge HD box, just the secondary ones that get put in several rooms) so I could watch FIOS in my room. The router for the wireless in my house was right down the hall plugged into the wall and running smoothly. Now i would like to bring the router into my room, except there is only one connection. I have a splitter from verizon, and have tried connecting both the cable box and the router using it. The cable still works perfect when i do this, but the router only turns on and wont allow me to connect to the internet. I have tried resetting it and everything, but nothing works. Is there a reason this isn"t working, and any solution?
    Thanks,
    Jason

Are you sure that is a Verizon supplied splitter and not one the installer might have removed from a prior cable installation?
Verizon uses MOCA between the ONT and the router and between the router and the STBs.  MOCA operates at frequencies over 1Ghz and requires splitters rated to 1Ghz.  If that splitter is not rated 1Ghz, it won't pass the MOCA signals.
Check the splitter.  If you don't see any rating on it or it is rated upto 850Mhz, you need to replace it with a 1Ghz splitter.
If it is rated 1Ghz, then this isn't your issue.
What happens as a test if you leave the router where it is at and install the splitter in your room, leaving one tap empty.
Do VOD and widgets work on your STB?  i.e. can your STB get to the router through the splitter?
Try both taps.  One or both taps on the splitter could be bad.

  • HT201263 My iPad 2 keeps resetting over & over

My iPad 2 keeps resetting over & over again without the home screen even coming up. I tried a restore but it is still resetting itself any suggestions?

You can try to restore using Recovery Mode. You can read about it here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
    Recovery Mode Instructions
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.

By cable box if you mean modem or Residential Gateway (RG), then yes, they can run hot.  Just make sure it is out of reach of the kiddos and there's plenty of ventilation.
The boxes attached to the TVs are Set Top Boxes and they are not AS hot as the RG but again, keep them up and away from little hands and well ventilated.

  • Find My iPhone Login Box Keeps Popping Up

I work at a Hospital that uses 140+  iPod Touches for Meds Disbursement. I need to have Find my Iphone on them so they don't 'walk out of the building' but is there a way to turn OFF the login box that keeps popping up? Staff keeps putting passwords in and locking our IT account and we have to keep resetting it. I'm not finding a way to do it in the iPhone Configuration Manager either.
    Thanks!
    Jim Hale

I have the same issue with my 6 Plus. I have had it checked at a Simply Mac store where the recommendation was to wipe the phone and start fresh with a new download of the OS. I had it checked at an ATT store and they witnessed the issue while I was there; they cleaned the charging port with compressed air, but to no avail. I can't say if this is a hardware or software issue, but the ball is in Apple's court and I hope to hear a definitive answer soon.

  • My box keeps crashing

Why does my youview box keep crashing/freezing/flickering/part recording? I've reset everything after maintenance advice from Humax to no avail. HELP ! I don't want to go to SKY for moral reasons.

Did BT provide the Youview box and do you have a current BT TV contract ? If so make sure you report it to them (BT).
If you bought it retail then continue to follow up the problem with Humax or the retailer you bought it from ?
