Cable box takes days to reload after outage

Whenever the cable is interrupted, the cable box takes days to reload all the channels.

It's the way the older iGuide works. There is a slow feed sent that the box has to listen to and pick up. That feed also contains all sorts of other data (time, channel lineup, OnDemand control, etc...) You should get near-term (6-8 hours) within an hour or two. It can take a few days for the full 8-10 days (used to go to 14+) to load. The guide data is not sent 'ondemand' but is simply sent out and all boxes litsen in and pick up what they need. If the box gets busy doing something else and misses a piece of info, it has to wait for it to come back around. The full data doesn't come out that fast and there is only time to send it once or twice a day. That's why it takes several cycles to pick it all up. The newer X1 boxes use full internal cable modems and are more cloud-based, so don't need to sit and wait for data.

  • Cable Boxes Not Working After Thunderstorm

Cable boxes not rebooting.  They appear to be without power. This happened right after a thunderstorm.

@jny52 - I see some troubleshooting has been attempted already and a tech visit is scheduled for tomorrow. For the issues you described, that would be the recommended fix.
@SWDescent - I did a reset and sent new signals to your box. If that does not help, then it is recommended to have a tech visit for you as well.

  • How to connect with a cable box

I cannot seem to find any information on how to connect up an Apple TV in a system that has an external cable box. I live in NY City where you cannot get cable TV without the external cable box. Where in the set up (along with my DVD player and component audio) do I fit the AppleTV?

I've used a 5 X 1 HDMI switch from Monoprice.com and it works just fine. I only have two HDMI inputs on my TV and use one just for the cable box and the other has the 5X1 switch hooked to it. The five ports are: a Toshiba DVR, a Mac Mini, an Apple TV, a DVI to HDMI cable for my MacBook and a spare port hopefully a HD-DVD some day.
One problem is if you calibrate the HDMI port on the TV to a device on the switch, when you switch to a different device the picture may not be optimal for that second (third, fourth or fifth) device. This is not the fault of the switch, rather a function having different devices on one HDMI port.
Rarely, very rarely, when switching to the Apple TV you need to tell it the resolutions for the TV.
Finally, if you are impatient, it takes three seconds or so when switching between devices. Otherwise a switch works great for me.

  • Windows Media Center on my HP TouchSmart PC won't switch channels on my attached Cable Box.

Have a Motorola DCX3501-M DVR (cable box) connected to my HP TouchSmart PC (Win 7 64-bit) in order to view and record HDTV channels.  Problem is I can't get Windows Media Center to communicate with the cable box properly, e.g., when I select a channel to view in WMC (using the PC's remote control) it does not tell the cable box to switch to that channel.  I have the IR cable connected from the rear of the PC and affixed to the front panel of the cable box.  How can I get the cable box to work properly with this PC?

    Hello Curly2U:
Did you connect the IR cables correctly ?http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Video-Solutions/Products/Video-CPE/All-Digital-Set-Tops/DCX3501-...  Now I look up your cable box.  Take the IR cable that is connected from p.c. IR out port and plug the other end directly into EXT IR IN port. Next to IEEE 1384 and Power  Cord ports. I really do not see how a p.c. remote can control any thing but the computer because these remotes do not have a option to add codes to them like a universal remote does. They also do not have special butons to allow you to contol other devices such as tv's or stereos and cable boxes like a universal remote does. I checked our Help and Support and did not see anything about mentioning controlling other devices.
You might want to by pass the cable box altogether and  directly plug the cable antenna wire directly into the computer and see if it can tune in cable channels. You might not need the cable box after all. There are two antenna ports on your computer try switching the cable antenna arround. I found out  one antenna port olnly picked up one channel and when I switched the cable cable arround I was able to pick up all the channels.

  • No Lights on ONT but cable boxes work (sort of)

So beginning yesterday we have no lights on our ONT. It is plugged into the wall in a working outlet. If you wish the emergency battery button, it comes to life for about 30a seconds, we have cable again, but then poof, everything turns off again (phone, internet, and tv).
Strangely the cable boxes still get the correct time and will show the channel you turn except with a message that thee is no signal.
I called Verizon tech support that could not even begin to give me help and now I have to wait 3 days waiting for a technician to come out as we sit dead in the water.
Any suggestions, thoughts? We did have a power outage the day before but it lasted all of 30 minutes so I cant believe it is a dead backup battery (the battery itself is only 4the months old).

If you're certain the power outlet is working and there are no loose cables, it sounds like the power supply failed.  A technician visit is most likely the best way to get this fixed.
    Good Luck.

  • HT1386 My iOS device (Ipad mini) only appears in iTunes while cable-connected, but does not appear after diconnect the cable. How can I Wifi sync ?

Hi, My iOS device (Ipad mini) only appears in iTunes while cable-connected, but does not appear after diconnect the cable. How can I Wifi sync ?
    Documents say
Whenever the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, the iOS device will appear in iTunes, and you can sync it....
But I can't see my iPad Mini in iTunes.
And my  Ipad  (Settings, General, iTunes Wifi Sinc)  shows  a message :" Sync will resume when xxx(my PC with iTunes) is available "...
Both are in the same network,
Ipad mini is is plugged in to power
. iTunes is open on the computer
    what can i Do ???

Hi Skydiver119,  and tks for four interest.
I have done exactly as you say, but it does not work for me.
You indicated  " Navigate to the info tab and scroll down. There'll be a check box for 'sync over wifi' or something to that effect. Check that box and sync to affirm your choice."
I navigated to Summary tab (not Info Tab) and checked "Sync with this ipad over Wi-Fi"
    I disconnect the wire,
and my iPad disappears from my iTunes screen.
in my iPad ->Settings -> General -> iTunes Wi-Fi Sync -> says " Sync will resume when (my PC) is available.
So, I can not sync via wi-fi
I appreciate if you can help me.

  • NEED HELP --- hooking up tv, cable box, home theater

60" Samsung smart TV --- contains several HDMI inputs
Time Warner HD cable box --- contains 1 HMDI input; components as well
LG Home Theater in a box, Model #BH6820SW --- contains 1 HDMI output, red/white aux input, & yellow video output.
Very simple...... I want to turn my TV on, change channels with cable box remote & have my sound from TV come out of this home theater in a box I just bought.
I've been at this for hours and I'm ready to take it back because of the ongoing frustration. I have 3 HDMI cables to use (which obviously I won't need all of them), I have a red/white audio cables and a yellow video cable to use if needed.
Can someone out there PLEASE explain how this can be done?????????
    Thanks.

You may be able to do it by running a Digital Optical cable to the Digital optical input on the LG from the TW Cable Box, and a seperate HDMI cable to the TV from the TW Cable box.
Honestly though, I'd take it back and get a an AVR with HDMI switching, a set of speakers, and a standalone Blu Ray player. It'll cost more, but you'll get a better feature set, better performance, and more flexbilty to add more devices down the road.

  • Recording to Mac from Cable Box through fire wire port

I used AVCVideoCap to capture a .m2t video from the firewire port in my cable box. Using VLCs export wizard, I converted the audio to .mp4 and the video codec to h.264. Playing the converted file in VLC sounds and looks just as good as the original, however, after I imported and play the file in iTunes, I'm getting about a 75% decrease in decibels on the audio (video looks fine). And, of course, I get the same result playing the file using QuickTime. Any thoughts on what is causing this and on a solution?

    Thanks for your help.
The volume level on the AV control window is identical to the volume slider on QuickTime (which I have set at full).
I have this issue posted in another place and got a recommendation from Smokerz to try transcoding with MPEGStreamClip.
I was able to get better results using MPEGStreamClip to transcode the audio file to AIFF (1,546 kbs @ 48 khz). With the iTunes volume adjustment option set at 100% (which is 50% above flat) and with the volume slider set at full, iTunes plays the file at about the same decibels as does VLC, with volume set at full.
Thanks much again for your help.

  • 42SL417 Connection or Compatibility Issue with Explorer Cable Box 8642HDC

I have the TV listed above and recently switched to Brighthouse cable.  Intermittently my TV loses the connection to the cable box and the input information (1080i, 720p, etc) comes up across the top of the TV and the picture resets.  I had the cable guy out and he said that there was a compatibility issue between the TV and the cable box.  I didn't get all the information since he talked to my wife, I was at work.  I don't believe that this is the issue, but wanted to check to see if this was a known problem or if anyone has had a similar experience.  My firmware is 2.2.2, which I believe is the most current.  Any thoughts or ideas?  The best I could get from my wife was that the box was trying to communicate with the TV to maximize resolution and the delay creates the connection problem.  Before I call the cable company back, I wanted to get some opinions.  My thought is that there is a signal problem since the internet had connectivity problems as well.  He changed the cable on the internet connection and said that would fix that, but I can't believe they aren't related.

That is indeed the latest firmware.
You may want to perform a factory reset, as described on page 44 of your user's guide. After the reset, ensure your TV is off and unplug it for a few minutes. All your settings will be reset, so you will have to set up the TV again.
You might also want to try disabling CEC (page 39) or auto aspect ratio feature (page 47).
I don't know for sure that any of this will help, but these are your best bets. Unfortunately, if none of this helps, I'm out of ideas.

  • Burn DVD off digital cable box?

I tried searching this topic a number of ways so I apologize if this is repetitious, the ones I found just didn't seem to be relevant.
I was just wondering if I could burn a dvd on my mac from a digital cable box?
The box is a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 (Time Warner) and I just noticed it has a USB connection on the front. If I played the recorded program in real time could the mac just burn as it's shown, or does it need to be a file that is download and burned? I would have no idea how to do this.
It's a local public access program so I don't think it would be pirating the show illegally.
    Thanks!

I don't know how you could stream the signal from the cable box directly to the DVD. Take a look at products from Elgato, as they would enable what you want to do, and that may give you an idea what your options are. http://www.elgato.com

  • ADVC110 &cable box& capturing television using iMac/Leopard using iMovie

I bought the ADVC110 really only to have the television signal come right into a program (eitheriMovie or Final Cut)NOT to capture from VCR. I hooked up the ADVC w/ the cable box and manage to see the TV in the screen,, but I can't hear the audio while the TV is in Play mode,,and also don't get any sound after a Record session. Can anyone tell me what settings for ex. in iMovie that I should change or tick off,, or what exactly the setup would be for the red and white audio cords and where I should plug them? OR should I just give up and buy and EyeTV?

Doesn't the ADVC110 device have ports to plug in the red/white RCA cables?
You may need to select the audio coming from the ADVC110 device in System Preferences Sound pane Input tab. You won't be able to hear it unless you have a program to play-through the sound. For testing, you can use a simple program like LineIn

  • Error message AE5 in cable box?

Cable went out on oll three tv's, there's a message on a black screen that says 'if you want to watch Verizon Fios, press menu, otherwise turn off TV.', but when we press 'menu' on the verizon remotes, this appears on the cable box where the channel selectionhad been: AE5. Can anyone tell me what this means?
    Thanks

I'm seeing the same thing.  While watching TV, picture and sound died and all boxes showed AE5, came back briefly after several minutes, then went back to AE5.  After 10 minutes or so, I tried unplugging the power cord, then re-plugging.  The box went through its diags, then came up with a display of "----" with picture and sound that appeared to be channel 2.  I then tried hitting the channel up button and the box turned off.  I hit the power button and it comes back on with display "----" with no picture or sound.
I tried the same process with the DVR box (power cycle, etc.).  When I hit the power button now, it just shows a logo on the screen with the message "Starting Up... One Moment Please."  This message remains many, many moments later.
So Verizon, can you tell us what's going on here?
