is the SPDIF-in on the external box the same thing as coax?
i think it is a simple question.. i just dont know if the labeling is the same and i dont want to connect anything and break something because of my own lack of understanding.
i need to connect the cable box to the soundcard for two reasons:
1. i have seperate amplifiers for the front and rear speakers
2. i want to use the equalizer to calibrate my frequency response
right now i have the cable box connected directly to the receiver and i am using the receiver to decode the dolby signal... but i am without surround speakers and i am without my calibrated frequency response.

went into entertainment mode and selected the SPDIF to be decoded.. now i have audio.
i forgot that it needed to be enabled in entertainment mode.

You can certainly use their drives between a Mac and a PC. As mentioned, either format it FAT32 witht he 4GB file size restrictions or partition it.
You can also use a program called MacDrive. It give a Windows machine that ability to read and wtite to HFS+ partitions. I have used it and it works nicely.
There is a timed demo, so you can try it out and see if it meets your needs.

Hello there,?I have a problem with my X-Fi Elite Pro External Console, as it seems. I use X-Fi mainly for recording and it was working fine untill I reinstalled Windows. I downloaded the driver off the support page and while audio playing is working fine ; The PC doesn't seem to be recieving any signals when I plugin the guitar through the External Console ... I am not sure what might be causing this problem?and I am in?a desprate need of help. Please advise?Wael

How do I know if the external box works at all?
I've installed all software and drivers after the box was connected to the internal card with the bundeled cable.
I have no light on the external box.
Line-In and Headphone are dead.
What can be wrong?

There should be a light coming out of the Optical Out, if you remove the little black button/cover in it.
There should be the external cable of course going to the external dri'vebay, but you should also have a power cable connected internally. You can check the connections in the manual, there is a diagram that lists these and where to find them. If all the cables are connected properly and it still doesn't work, I would suggest trying to disconnect another device, such as a DVD-ROM or extra harddri've, in case the power supply isn't strong enough.
Otherwise it's possible there is a (hardware) problem with the dri've or one of the cables. Contact Customer Support for further assistance, and they'll be happy to go over the configuration with you to see what could be causing the problem.

X-Fi Elite Pro external thing not working prope

The external part of my elite pro (dont know what its called) is only working somewhat. I can hear music from it with headphones but if i try to adjust volume or any of the settings (crystallizer, CMSS-3D, etc) it wont work. I can use the remote to adjust the volume but otherwise nothing else works. I've reinstalled the creative software and made sure everything was plugged in correctly.
Any help appreciated.

Check that CTXFIHLP.EXE is running and that you haven't disabled it from the startup, killing that process renders useless the digital knobs in the console.

Joe Meek Twin Q Pre-Amp and Elite Pro SPDIF/Digital input probs

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone can help. I've just purchased a Joe Meek Twin Q Pre-Amp and I specifically bought it for a new Rode mic I've just got and it needed phantom power. I also paid a little extra for the digital 'outs', thinking I could take an optic or SPDIF out into the Elite Pro breakout box. The problem is, is that digital is not recognised at all - in Audio Codes it states it's an invalid signal. However, SPDIF is recognised saying it's a stereo signal at 48,000hz, but is only being 'heard' in my right channel.
I have tried the line out into Line In 3, and there's no problem there. Joe Meek representative said it should be working as long as the bit match is the same in both units, which as far as I know is. Am I missing something here? I'm awaiting Creative to get back as it seems to me to be a breakout-box hardware problem, but I could be missing something?
Does anyone have any experience and/or advice/info?

Well, since you're not getting response, let me see what I can do.
I think you're saying the optical connection isn't working, but the coax (SPDIF) one is working, and then you're only getting the mic signal on one channel. The second part is easy to explain, but I never remember the solution suggestions. TOSLink/SPDIF, essentially, are stereo signals, and your preamp is simply putting its channel 1 signal on one side and its channel 2 signal on the other. If you had a second mic connected to the other connector, you'd have one mic on the left channel and the other on the right channel. Basically, you need to treat it as a mono signal and then either pan it into the stereo field, or just duplicate (convert) it to stereo. I'm sure there are ways, but someone else needs to join in with some experience. I'm not sure, but it seems to me if, say, you've put the mic in the channel 1 connector, you could take the channel 1 (analog) output and patch it into the channel 2 line input, and your digital outputs would probably get you the mic signal on both sides.
On both devices, the TOSLink/SPDIF signals are, to the best of my understanding, basically the same thing in two forms. If one is working, than the other should be working too. That suggests to me either hardware brokenness in the preamp's optical out, or the Elite Pro's optical in. or a problem with the optical cable. CL's optical outs can be checked to see if they are putting out red light: if they aren't, there's a problem. That probably applies to the preamp, in this case. You can simply connect the Elite Pro's optical output to its optical input and record something from the digital input device. If that works, the cable and the digital input are probably OK, and it most likely the preamp's digital output is broken (although it could be a strange compatibility issue). If it fails, then it's most likely either a bad cable, or the Elite Pro's optical input is broken. Trying another cable, or some other piece of gear you have that outputs optical, ought to sort out which it is.

just thought I'd jump on the band wagon on this one for some advice.
I have installed a X-FI Elite Pro in my PC running Vista Ultimate (not dual boot) and have some issues.
. My External box seems dead, the remote will not elicit any lights from it at all. I know the remote is fine because my other PC running Audigy ZS2 Pro's external box goes out in sympathy. Is there an issue with the Entertainment Centre Application, which seems absent from my install. Also When I try to install the app I get the "No IR Devices installed error".
I understand there are issues with Vista and Drivers.
2. There are about several different ways to set up for 7. speakers and I am runnoing Gigaworks 7.. The problem I am having here is I'm not getting surround sound. In one setup for speakers each speaker identifies correctly, but in most I do not get sound from rear speakers, and in another I don't get side speakers or rear. It seems they are mapping to front and centres, this also refers to the Sub. Running the Creative Diagnostic reports no errors, yet even it incorrectly identifies the speakers. The system was running fine on my other PC with Audigy ZS2 Pro. How can I resolve this one?
I really want to give Vista a run before scrapping the whole lot and going back to XP.

Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro External IO Box prob

I am unable to get the earphone or mic ports to work at all on the external IO box. The power light is on and is strong. The CMSS button seems to not do anything and the remote does not do anything as well. I have a 480W PS so it should have plenty of power. I just want to use the external mic and headphoe jack. Does anyone have an suggestions on what I can do to get the external box to function?

even i had the same problem, but i found that the AD_LINK connector was not properly connected to the soundcard. It may seem to get connected but even with a slight pull it comes out. The cabinet metal strips at the back obstruct the connector and it doesnt get connected properly.wat i did was, before installing the CARD on to the slot, i connected the AD_LINK first and then put it in the slot.
This problem generally doesnt occur with the FIREWIRE connector as theres plenty of room above and below the connetor. and so ur IO Box is Powering UP but fails to communicate with the sound card.

Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro - breakout box not work

I have an an external external breakoput box which was working fine in my old computer. I upgraded the mother board and cpu and installed the Audigy as before. The actual card works but the break out box doesn't light up. If I plug the external box firewire cable in to another firewire port on the computer the power LED lights but that's all. Any ideas anyone?

I have a Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro - my old one which I decided to use in lieu of the on-board sound. I installed the latest drivers I could find SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0017.exe (after unistalling the existing ones)
The card itself works fine but the external interface box is as dead as a doornail. The power for the interface is supposed to come from the two connectors.
No lights no nothing - obviously I have checked the leads and the seating of the card itself. Playback is fine on MP3, midi, wave files etc. I have disabled the on-board sound in the BIOS of course.
Unfortunately the jacks on the back of the card are 1/8 in. outputs only and the external interface provides the inputs which I need for recording etc. They are 1/4in proper ones - guitar lead size which are much better.
I know it is an old card but I like it. The last time I used in in my old computer it was fine. Card/drivers show up in the device manager. I have installed this both on a Win 7 partition and a Win XP partition on my 2 HDDs with the same result. :mansad:

Dangerous Music D-box with Logic Pro X

Hello; I am a D-box user and Love it! I have used it with PT11 and Studio One with no issues. Now I am trying to setup the routing for Logic Pro X and I'm having a heck of a time getting it to work properly. I get sound when in "analog & sum" mode but not in DAW mode. Yes, I have Print track set up, stems etc.. I have searched all over the internet and can't seem to find any help. I did watch Fab's video on YT with Logic 9 but still having issues. Is there someone here that uses a D-box with Logic Pro X that woudl be willing to give me a hand? I also use a U/A apollo interface. Thank you in advance! It would be so much appreciated.

I have had problems with this exact setup as well, LogicX - Apollo - DBox. All was working fine until a few weeks ago and then no more DAW S/PDIF. So after checking that the Apollo's S/PDIF was OK and checking cables with a volt meter, etc. I decided to send the DBox back for repair because all things pointed to a dead converter in the DBox.
It turns out they found nothing wrong with the DBox, no problems at all and it is being sent back to me. I will have it set up soon and will post again here my findings. Watch this space.

My "Open" and "Save" dialog boxes in Logic Pro...

Wondering if you've have had this issue. My Open / Save as well as any Import dialog boxes in Logic Pro have oddly spaced columns. I resize them accordingly (I prefer Column view BTW), get them looking right by holding the "Option" key while resizing to have all columns the same width...you know, the same procedure you'd use in the finder.
Anyway, each time a dialog box appears my "Sidebar" column along the left-hand side is like 5 inches wide, and each column to the right of that is very narrow despite my setting it up the way I'd like it to look during the previous Open/Save/Import.
Is there a preference for this that I'm missing?

I posted a similar post regarding this observation. It appears that only you and I are the only ones getting this behavior from Logic and Lion. In all honesty, I don't think anybody cares or no one installed Lion for use with Logic yet. In either case, it has been widely ignored.
I too tried resizing, but get the same result every time. Its not just open and save windows, its the same with all windows. This gets especially annoying when ad ding samples to EXS24. Some people have different work arounds for adding samples to most things, such as the browser side window. Regardless of any workaround, nothing solves the remaining window space problem. This window bug is something that should not exist within Logic. It makes Logic look like freeware.
For many, Logic Pro X might be the ultimatum. It might be time to jump ship.

How do I move my library from Windows Vista hard drive that is now in an external box to a Windows 8 PC?

My old PC operating with Windows Vista failed to reboot, ironically but only coincidentally right after I installed the latest Itunes update a few weeks ago. It would not get past the DOS screen but getting that far I was at least able to conduct a diagnostics. The result was Hard Drive failure "BIOS-HD." I have a new PC with Windows 8 and have installed Itunes there as well. I removed the Hard Drive from the old computer and placed it in an external drive box. Fortunately, I can access everything on that drive including Itunes. How do I move my Itunes Library from my old hard drive in the external box and connected to my new PC, to the hard drive in the new PC? I see all sorts of instructions on line but none for the specific circumstance of the old hard drive in an external box and moving to a new PC with newer operating system (Windows 8). Thanks

Aside from checking here, I also Googled for an answer. Then I faced the problem on the Internet where stuff stays there forever and so I see solutions for previous and maybe obsolete versions of Itunes. I have no way of knowing if the seemingly sound advice was solved in later versions of Itunes. In one case there is a great YouTube video with a guy from Circuit City (now out of business). I found an extensive explanation that made my head explode with all the detail but I did understand enough to see that the solution they precribed has you go onto your new computer and make sure you rename your new hard drive to match the name of the hard drive from your old computer. That way Itunes on the new computer will be able to find it okay. These instructions also tell you to downlaod Itunes software on the new computer first and then move two different folders (I think one has the extension of .itl); one folder with the library and the other has the metadata--to the new computer. Then to confuse things I have seen instructions that also say to just move the files and they don't address the issue with the file names like turringtest said. Most discouraging is that all of the instructions I have talked about, explain what to do without ever addressing my specific situation where the old hard rive used to reside in an old computer and has an Vistas Operating System that apparently failed and caused me to get a new computer in the first place (I guess I could have loaded a new operating system but not sure if that would have wiped out my extensive files...also irrelevant to the discussion }:) Sorry). Don't drag the midi into an open Logic project. The tracks won't set up correctly.
'Open' the midi file with Logic as if it were a Logic project. Then all the tracks will be set up so you can start editing them and applying better saved sounds and instruments, but you'll be at a starting place where you can hear what's going on.
