Cable Broadband for subdivision and Commercial Quote

Hi Telstra, I recently bought a subdivided home and currently waiting for settlement. So as a forward thinking professional, i took the initiative to make sure that cable broadband would be available for my property ahead of time so thought i would enjoy cable broadband as soon as i moved in. I checked that both properties either side of me can receive cable broadband and indeed they both do on the telstra broadband checker tool. Infact the entire street and the connecting street both receive cable broadband. From what I can tell it is provided from the overhead poles. Understanding that subdivisions are not updated on the telstra database I contacted a Telstra sales rep to get the ball rolling and they did a 'database check' which said i could get ADSL, maybe on ADSL2+ and not available for cable. I then went to the Telstra store who did the samething except this time visually showed me the database check, I asked them if it was possible to send a technician out to see if it was possible to connect to the cable service and how much it would cost. Instead I was told that trenches would have to be dug and that I would have to hire my own contractor to do it. I told them no trenches needed digging as as the subdivision is literally 3-5m from the poles and that it was facing the street not behind the main house. Attached below is a pictorial of what my situation is.So my property is actually a subdivision of 2A Bravo st, but since its facing Delta st its designated as 35B Delta st. The poles on Delta st currently supply the property with the phoneline and power as well.
After some more research, i discovered the commercial quote method on the crowdsupport service. I then requested a commercial quote done through the 24x7 live chat in which they happily did for me and said it would take 14 days. 16 days later i followed up and the chat rep i spoke to could not find any record of the commercial quote and then suggested i speak the to Moving Home Team instead.
Before I try the Moving Home Team, i private messaged a moderator whose yet to respond. So I ask anyone from Telstra or the crowdsupport if they can help with me with my situation please! I really want Telstra Cable as ADSL1 is not acceptable especially since the exchange is in the next suburb where my max speed would only be 4mb/s. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would try calling the connections team, 132200 and say "connection". Ask them for the reference number for the call (will be INT 1-4x) Ask them for the reference number for the Commerical Quote Webform (I believe that they might have an SR 1-4x number, but it has been a while since I have seen one) Ask them to send you a Get Back In Touch link by email/SMS, and if you haven't heard back, use that link to get back to them specifically, that way you should be able to get someone who should be able to help. It is disappointing that the LiveChat person hasn't submitted it or at least noted the reference but normally it is within a few weeks they get back. (10-15 business days)  The link they send will also have their name and employee number so you can also say who you spoke to. If after that you don't hear back, i would personally just raise a complaint, but they normally are pretty good at getting back to you.

  • USB sync cable different for CDMA and GSM version phones?

I recently ordered a USB sync cable for Iphone 4S from ebay. I want to know whether the USB sync cable for Iphone 4S is different for CDMA and GSM version phones? And if they are then what are the likely consequences if they are interchanged and used inadvertantly.

All recent iDevices use the same type of connector/cable.

  • Setting up wirless broadband for apple and pc laptops?

My present setup is fully wired broadband with ISP providing 1Mb max speed. We want to go wireless, with 2 apple laptops and 1 pc laptop in the house, but keeping our hardwired iMac. I understand that I need an ADSL wireless modem/router, which will be connected to my phone line and my existing modem should be connected to the wireless router.
    (1) Do I need a special router that can work with both pc and apple laptops?
    (2) Do the laptops require special cards fitted?
    (3) I understand that I should get a wireless router to the new draft 'n' standard 802.11n. Do the laptops also need this specification to function?
(4)Do you know any which comply with this standard?
As some one who really is not very technical, I would appreciate any advice in simple terms.
    Thanks

I understand that I need an ADSL wireless modem/router, which will be connected to my phone line and my existing modem should be connected to the wireless router.
No. If you get an ADSL wireless modem/router there won't be any need for your current modem.
You could get an inexpensive 802.11b or 802.11g compliant wireless router (sans modem). Then you would connect the modem to the wireless router and the iMac to the wireless router.
    (1) Do I need a special router that can work with both pc and apple laptops?
No, an inexpensive 802.11b or 802.11g compliant wireless base station will work with both.
    (2) Do the laptops require special cards fitted?
If you provide details on the Apple laptops we can tell you pretty easily. Same with the Windows laptop... probably.
    (3) I understand that I should get a wireless router to the new draft 'n' standard 802.11n. Do the laptops also need this specification to function?
Since that is still draft, none of Apple's products support it.

  • Broadband for Mac and PC?

I am looking for a suitable UK broadband service compatible with both my current OS 9.1 iBook (and a possible OSX conversion this year) and my partner's PC (XP Home). I don't particularly want to switch phone providers. I note BT does not yet support OS X. Any recommendations?

    iBook G3   Mac OS 9.1.x

    neil,
BT are excellent, if a little pricey. Just to give you the ultimate choice, try looking at the definitive list here:
    http://www.adslguide.org.uk/
It's been around for years, I've used it for choosing ADSL providers for a number of addresses, but in the end I've always come back to BT.
The site will allow you to check prices, availability, and most importantly, what most users think of their service. Above everything else, check this. You'll find an enormous difference in the quality of support, especially for Macs, between, say, BT, Virgin and Tiscali.
Don't worry about OS9 and OSX compatability. Something else you should insist on, is that you get an Ethernet DSL modem. Most will try to fob you off with a USB modem, and although they will work on a Mac and a PC, it'll only work on one computer at a time.
find out what they offer, and then do your research, or ask here. Or fork out the £60 (or £90 for wireless) for a top quality DSL modem/router from Maplin / PC World. Again, ask here if you want guidance.
Or look on ebay for a non-wireless DSL modem / router being sold by someone who has just upgraded to wireless. Again, ask here if you want guidance. I could recommend Netgear and Linksys. Belkin also make DSL modem/routers, but some of the older models are just naff.
Let us know how you get on.

  • Number of coaxial cable runs for TV and Internet

Hello,I currently have Xfinity internet into my home. A single coax cable runs into my home through the conduit that was installed when the home was built. If I were to add Xfinity TV service with 3 rooms total, could I do it without needing to run another coax cable and utilizing the existing run? Can 1 coaxial cable run service both TV and Internet? I want to avoid having to run another cable from the outside of the house. The way the conduit was run makes it very difficult to tap into and I want to avoid making a hole on the side of the house.

As a non-technical person, I have noticed that most responses to the question about cable and internet being carried through the same coaxial cable fail to mention that the coax cable to use should be RG-6 when connecting to a cable modem.  I think most technical folks assume that's the cable in use, but I noticed that my Xfinity coaxial internet connection cable (installed many years ago) was slightly different than the cable they used to go from the other outlets to the TV cable boxes.  Upon further research, I found that the TV coax was RG-59 and would not support the internet signal being transmitted to a cable modem, only the RG-6 would work.  RG-6 is not expensive, just slightly more than RG-59, but if you're trying to move a modem and wireless router to another room and it doesn't work, that's probably the problem.

i tried for update but when i saw the screen its showing an arrow with a USB cable towards itunes icon, and now i'm not able to do anything, i also tried to connect ipad through my laptop but no use

That message means that you have to restore the iPad now. There was a problem with the update. So connect the iPad to your computer and restore your iPad.
You can read bout it here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
If that does not work you will need recovery mode. You can read about it here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
Or you can follow these Recovery Mode Instructions
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.

A FW cable would be far faster & Easier, but with Ethernet you need a compatible version of Migration Assistant running on both Macs.

  • Which FW cable for Transfer and Future use?

    Hi,
Will be starting up a new imac 21.5" Intel i3 soon and have been advised to purchase a 400 - 800 FW cable for the Setup Assistant transfer.
I have multiple older devices currently, a mini DV movie camera, a Pentax digital camera, iPod, etc, some of which use FW and some use USB 2.0.
Should I buy a 800 - 800 cable to keep for these devices that use FW
(movie camera) and a 400 to 800 adapter for the single use of transferring rather than a 400 - 800 cable?
Am I overthinking this? Just want to buy the right piece the first time and not have to make two separate cable purchases ( 400-800 and 800-800 ) instead of a cable and an adapter which should be less expensive?

So this isn't a 400mbs Firewire unit? The info in the pulldown under the Apple "About This Mac" pretty much said it was?
Do you have a port that looks like this, if so it's FW 400.
After going to the link and entering my serial #, all I got were instruction on upgrading memory and installing an Airport card.
Huh, they must not archive manuals that far back from this site.

  • Battery Care and Cable for Internet and Keychain  :-)

I commend you people for helping out, so thanks!
I have a used sMBP I recently purchased. I noticed that the battery cannot be removed easily like the old MBP I had. Does Apple still recommend letting the battery go all the way down and right before it goes into safe mode, hook it up to power, let it fully charge and try to keep the charge around 60-70% charged? Should I do this "drain and charge to full capacity" once a month? Any reason when I initially hook it up to the white adapter, it does NOT say "charging," but it says" Not Charging." Somebody told me to reset the SMC controller (I think that is the right name) but the person gave me instructions for an older MBP, because what he told me to do did not make any sense
As far as hooking up the MacBook Pro to a wall internet connection should I use this type of ethernet cable or does it not matter? (The ethernet cable that came with the MBP is really loose at the MBP ethernet connection.) "Belkin RJ45 CAT 5e Ethernet Patch Cable (14 Ft.)" If not, any suggestions on the latest recommendation for an ethernet cable? Are there any ethernet internet plugs that take a firewire cable? I know sounds pretty stupid, but I thought I would ask.
Finally, why when I empty the cache n Safari 5.0.4 do some of my usernames and passwords get erased? I thought that would only happen if I "Reset Safari?" If I loose the passwords, are they stored in keychain if I have used them in the past?
    thanks

Maybe I'm lucky. But here's my experience.
With the Lumia 800, battery life was poor initially but after a couple of days it impoved, and again too with software updates.
920 now I've had for two weeks and it is the only device I use. Habit I had with all my phones for last couple of years, is to have them charging overnight, with alarms set and in main profile for calls (text on silent). Same still with 800 and 920. Though both happily went through the night if I didn't plug them in.
920 originally battery wasn't great, but improved daily after about 3-4 days. This morning I took it off charge at 07:00, and it's still going strong at 21:30. Been on wi-fi, 3g, phone calls & texts in/out, podcast update check download and playing, email and calendars syncing. A fair amount of speech to text for calling and sms. Whatsapp, NFC and Bluetooth on all day. Screen brightness on 'high', Timeout at 3 mins. Much use of Facebook. Twitter, internet browsing, email, Bluetooth transfer, NFC writing and reading. Taken a couple of photo's and videoes, some Youtube viewing, and about half hour of games. Cloud Backup for text messages 'On', transferred photo's to skydrive and downloaded OneNote while away from wifi. Used several apps a few times throughout the day on wifi and/or 3g. Been on the Store.
Battery says 18% and 12 hours remaining. I think time remaining is somewhat misleading (as it's based on recent usage I suspect), but the percentage seems reasonably accurate, having checked it throughout the day.  I plan to keep using it tonight for setting up more items on Nokia Reading, listening to music, some sms stuff, along with Facebook and Twitter mainly and will see when it dies.

    Issues are usually network related
What is your internet speed? www.speedtest.net
6mbps is required for instant HD (you can switch to SD in the settings)
If on wifi try ethernet and www.istumbler.net to rule out interference
Make sure you're using your ISP's DNS
