Cable for external projector/monitor

My external projector/monitor cable is missing. What cable do I need to replace it?

Hi, Pedro. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Check out the Apple Knowledge Base article describing the video cables for various iBooks:

has anyone tried this to their video out cable that can let me know if it works? I don't want to go out and start splitting wires after a single article so i'm asking here. I just bought an aaxa p pocket projector http://www.aaxatech.com/products/kp9..._projector.htm for my zen but i'm also thinking about getting standard cables to hook it up to the TV or monitor. The aaxa p works fine at night and as a mobile toy to project the zen image but washes out with the lights on as you can see here:

soooooooooo i need to build a cable that lets me hook up the zen to my tv or computer monitor. Please let me know if anyone has tried this.

I had the same problem with mine. I had to use the sync adapter that came with the player?to plug the cabe into & I also had to update the firmware on the player. Hope it works for you.

  • Usb cable for L1950 monitor

I need a USB cable for my L1950 monitor so that I may connect it to my new laptop.  What cable do I need?

While I see that the monitor does have a USB port, that port does not connect for monitor use. Now if that part of the monitor is what you want to connect, not to display but as a USB hub, then a regular USB cable will work for that.  What you need to use the monitor as a monitor on a laptop, then you need either a VGA cable or a DVI cable, depending on the available ports on the laptop.
After looking at that model's features, it is not clear that a monitor can be connected, unless you have a HDMI port or use a USB to monitor adapter.

  • IMac always auto detects for external monitors after waking from sleep or from display off

I've got a Dell 24" monitor (2408WFP) plugged into my mid 2011 iMac via DVI cord and thunderbolt attachment. Things work fine.
When I need to leave my computer, I usually turn the displays off using the shortcut keys: CTRL + SHIFT + EJECT
This works perfectly and both displays go black. However, when I return to my computer and reactivate the iMac, the iMac display will turn blue as if I have just plugged in a new monitor even the external monitor is still plugged in. It usually flashes blue twice before displaying the password prompt. I can usually just log back in as normal. I've never had this happen before using Snow Leopard. It's annoying but strange.
However, even more strange is that sometimes when returning to the desktop, the iMac will do the auto detect display thing and then when I log back in, the external display just shows static as if there is no signal. I've checked the cable a million times and everything is as tight as tight can be and both ends are plugged in properly. Unplugging the displayport adapter from the iMac and then reattaching it restores the desktop on the secondary display although sometimes, it results in the secondary display showing a gray background picture instead of my normal picture. Replugging the secondary display seems to fix that too although sometimes it doesn't.
    Why is this happening?
    - Problem with the adapter?
    - Problem with the DVI cable I'm using?
    - Compatibility issues with my external monitor?
I need to stress the point that this has never happened before with Snow Leopard.
If I am the only one experiencing this then I suppose it may be an issue with the iMac or adapter or even the cable. But if anyone else can shed light on this problem, I'd really appreciate it.

    Hi Micheal,
I've been experiencing the exact same issue with my new iMac I just bought.  I bought it refurb so I wasn't sure if it was a defect with the hardware or not.  Since I'm not the only one I will asume it's not for now.
    Setup:
    - iMac 27-inch 3.4GHz (Release May 2011)
    - Dell 2709W external monitor
    - Hooked in with mini display port to DVI adapter
    - Lion 10.7.3 all up to date to this day
From what I've been able to gather the issue presents itself only when my Dell 2709W enters "Power Save Mode" after I do CTRL + SHIFT + EJECT or when the diplays simply goes to sleep by themselves.
Although if I hit that combination and the displays goes to sleep but I don't wait long enough for my Dell monitor to actually "Power Save Mode" (wait like 2 sec) then touch the keyboard then the 2 displays (iMac and Dell) resumes from sleep without the issue presenting itself.
I'm tempted to buy the mini-display port to HDMI just to see if the issue is still present with that adapter.  If I do I'll update my post with the outcome.
If anyone else has any info to help with this issue it would be greatly appreciated.  It's very annoying when you resume from sleep and you find all of your windows that where opened on the external display before sleep squeezed into your main display (iMac).
    Thanks!

  • Recommendations for external monitor in combination with USB 3.0 dock and X1 carbon touch

    Dear Community,
I'm waiting for my X1 carbon touch and USB 3.0 dock and keyboard/mouse to arrive any time soon. However, I'd be glad to get some help/recommendations on external monitor choice.
For instance, the new HP envy 27" caught my eye, since it includes speakers, but it comes with HDMI and Displayport connections only. As far as I understood, video connection itselft shouldn't be a problem using a DVI to HDMI adaptor, but how about the resolution of the X1 vs. a HD+ monitor, and how do I use the audio on this monitor (don't want to use the microphone jack in front of the dock, as it should look as minimalistic as possible)?
Is there a solution? via usb 3.0? or should I better consider another monitor? Anyways, DVI or HDMI, I don't want to connect a separate audio system to the dock. Any recommendations, or is it one of those gadgets that  has not been thought through well enough and you need to wait for the next generation to be developed?
    Many thanks for your help,
    Cheers, jcd

Since you don't want to use the jack on the dock, you could usethemini-DisplayPortontheX1cTouchasyourvideooutputoption because the version of DP on the X1c Touch includes the ability for audio to streamed over the DP connection in addition to video. This would require a compatible DP monitor.
You'll also want the monitor to support audio over the DP connection. The X1c Touch's graphics supports the output of an audio stream over DP and the machine should be be capable of this. This gives you two cables connecting to the X1c Touch -- the DP cable for audio and video and the USB 3.0 cable connecting to the dock. The dock would be attached to keyboard, mouse, USB accessories, and Ethernet (if necessary).
As far as what to look for in a monitor, my general recommendation is Dell Ultrasharp. They tend to be a good deal for an IPS monitor with at least an sRGB gamut and a solid warranty. I've never bothered to attempt to stream audio over DP because I have separate speakers for audio. In the same way that my last 3 laptops have been ThinkPads, my last three monitors have been Dell Ultrasharps. The graphics in the X1c Touch should be fine running a 1920x1080, so I wouldn't worry about resolution. It can be a little jarring to use monitors side-by-side when they have different pixel densities, so you'll likely end up treating them as separate display surfaces. I often have e-mail and Pandora open on my T420's screen while I'm doing the bulk of my work on my main monitors. If you think you'll be touching the screen a good bit, then you might want to look into buying a touch capable monitor. Otherwise your brain can become easily confused because it'll begin to think that all computer screens are touch-capable and you'll reach out and try to touch your desktop monitor without thinking.

What cable should be used to connect a macbook pro, 13 inch, early 2011 model to an external projector so the project displays the image on the computer screen?

You will need a cable or adapter with a minidisplay connection for the MBP.  That will be inserted in the Thunderbolt port.  The other end is dependent upon the connections of the projector which you have not listed.

  • [SOLVED]Battle for Wesnoth and external vga monitor

Hi all, i have my hp pavilion dm1 1010el hooked up to a 19'' external monitor via vga cable. When i plug it in, i use xrandr to mirror my screen, but when i try to launch battle for wesnoth, my external monitor becomes gray and wesnoth starts into LVDS (the laptop monitor...)
how can i fix this thing? it only happens with wesnoth, usually i can open things wherever i want
    thanks!

You could use xrandr to disable your notebooks "monitor" and only activate the external 19" monitor. This should force battle of wesnoth to run on the external display.
Gaming with dual head can sometimes be a problem. I am running a dual head combination (19" and 15" TFT) with a AMD HD4670 and radeon opensource drivers. When gaming I start a short shell script before launching the actual game to enable only the 19" display. Afterwards I use another shell script to set to dual head.
    Edit:
    This is my "singlehead.sh"
    xrandr --output VGA-0 --off
    xrandr --output DVI-0 --mode 1280x1024
    This is my "dualhead.sh":
    xrandr --output DVI-0 --mode 1280x1024
    xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1024x768 --right-of DVI-0

  • Tecra S2 - resolution for external monitor on NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600

    Hello! I'm new here ...
I have a Tecra S2 with Windows XP SP2 and graphic card NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600. Internal resolution (display of notebook) is 1024 x 768. Its work fine. But I work with an external monitor VGA with "DualView" function. It is a Samsung Syncmaster 940N.
It??s all OK (19", resolution 1280 x 1024), with my new monitor Samsng Syncmaster 203B don't work: The external monitor's native resolution is 1400x1050 but the maximal resolution available is 1280 x 1024. And so, using 1280x1024 resolution, will cause the image on the external monitor and text is not clear.
I cannot set the 1400 x 1050 resolution via Control Panel nor via NVIDIA -menu.
Graphic card drivers are updated to the last version on the Toshiba site. Graphic card NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 is supported from my monitor Syncmaster 203B.
Max. resolution for external video of NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 is higher as 1400 x 1050.
I need to use this new monitor, can you help me?
    Many thanks in advance!

Unfortunately the Tecra S2 isn't capable to display the resolution 1400x1050.
Here are the resolutions you can use.

  • External LCD Monitor Flickers for 10 - 15 minutes before it settles down

I have a Lenovo 3000 N100 with a samsung syncmaster 931B as the second monitor. When I activate the monitor, it flickers for around 20 minutes before it settles down. I have the resolution set at 1280x1024 32-bit color 60hertz refresh rate.
I've had this monitor for more than one year, without any problems. I've recently updated the nVidia Ge Force 7300 video drivers on my Windows XP Pro SP2 system.
Actually, the problem is not the monitor. I can connect this monitor to a second laptop and it works fine, with no flicker.
I have PC-Doctor 5 installed and the video tests for the nVidia GeForce 7300 and the external monitor itself ran with no problems.

I have a similar issue: external Samsung monitor worked fine on Vista, but I could not stand Vista. I put Win Xp Pro on... and I cannot get any signal out through the VGA port now. The monitor works fine (still), tested with two other latptops.
My suspicion is that the nVidia driver files, possibly the .INF, may need tweaking / replacement / etc.
    Any assistance appreciated.

  • Settings for an external display monitor

I'm working with FCP 7 but my screen is small 13.3 and for a person of my age (60) is a litle difficult to work. I would like an external monitor display but I cant afford to buy the Apple 24" display, so I'm looking for an other alternative. I found Viewsonic VX2260WM full HD 22"screen very affordable or maybe Samsung XL2370 23" screen. So I need now some help to setup all the system. I would like to have the possibility to have FCP work space in the big monitor but the preview in my MCP. Please, dear adviser, take in mind, for my age, that I need all the explanation full detailed.
    Many thanks in advance
    JoseCup

Thanks Jerry for your advice. I have had for a week a 22" ViewSonic connected with a HDMI Mini Display port adapter. I tried to do my best for the setup of this monitor with 1080p resolution while the MBP 13" was setup to the native resolution 1280X800 but the image at the external display was not good enough as the MBP screen. In any case I have return the ViewSonic because other problems. I'm now looking for an other monitor but I'm not sure what to look for. I need for a bigger work space for Final Cut but with a good quality image. Do you have any advice?

  • Best monitor for external playback?

I have never used an external monitor before for playback, and now that I'm going to start color grading HD footage, I find that I'm probably going to need one.
I have heard that most computer monitors have their own "look" in terms of contrast, brightness, and color. My question is this: what should one get for external playback and color correction? I'm assuming an HDTV, or a 1920x1080 computer monitor, but what specifically should I look for in terms of specs? Affordability is also an issue here. Thoughts?

Thanks for getting back to me, Shane.
I'm a little new to all of this, so bear with me. It seems from what I just read about the Matrox MXO, and the like devices you mentioned above, that their main advantage is that they output broadcast quality, correct? Is there more to it than that?
Since that kind of thing isn't in my price range yet, I was thinking more along the lines of computer monitors/hdtvs that I would just hook up with the mini-display port. Nothing too fancy.
What should I look for in terms of inputs? From mini-display, what's best: dvi, vga, or hdmi? What should I look for in terms of contrast ratio? Is LED backlit a must?
Budget is <500. With a computer monitor/hdtv, will I have to have my display settings on extended desktop, and then drag my canvas over onto the new screen?
    Thanks for the help!

  • What is the max resolution for external monitors from the intel hd 4000 graphics driver

What is the max resolution supported by the intel hd 4000 graphics driver found on the 13in MacBook Pro for EXTERNAL monitors?

OK so after doing much research... this seems to be the best workflow.
Bring HDV in to FCP as ProRes 422.
Edit show... add bells and whistles, etc.
    Export movie as ProRes 422.
Then for the client - ensure that they have latest version of Quicktime and download the Apple ProRes Quicktime Decoder (for mac or Windows). (It is assumed they have a decent computer to play back on.)
The client will then be able to play a movie encoded as proRes 422 and all will be happy.
As a back up a high resolution h264 file can't hurt.
Thanks for everyones input. We got there in the end.

  • External Projector for Slide presentation on iPhoto 09

I need assistance in using an external projector for a slide presentation of my pictures. I can not get the pictures to project. I can do Keynote presentations with no problems with the same settings. thank you for your help...

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Alejandro,
iPhoto does not support slideshow play back on a secondary display like keynote does. iPhoto always displays the slideshow on the primary display. There are a few ways you can get around this:
1.) Export your slideshow as a Quicktime Movie and play it in Quicktime or iTunes
-- File > Export > Slideshow -- Check off "Display" and "Automatically send slideshow to iTunes"
-- Once your slideshow (now a movie) is in iTunes you can move itunes to your second display (or projector) and then play
2.) Change the primary display from the computer display to the projector
-- You can tell your computer to display on the projector first by changing your display preferences
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301408#3
-- Go to Apple > System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement > Drag the small white bar from the current display (which is your computer) to the secondary display (which is your projector)
    -- Now play your slideshow
3.) Set your computer to use mirroring ( I don't like this option because you lose your primary display for the duration of the slideshow
    -- Go to Apple > System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement >Mirror
    -- Now play your slideshow
    Hope that helps!
